October 17 7:13 p.m. Having been at the institute for almost two weeks, Liz was just starting to get used to things and finally finding her groove. So here she was in the media room on a Sunday night, with a tub of Rocky Road ice cream and remote in hand. Usually this was something she would have saved for Gossip Girl night (something that she was ecstatic to finally be able to watch out in the open instead of having to sneak behind her mother's back, because Ma Guthrie thought that the show was 'complete trash'). But tonight was special. There was a special show of 60 Minutes that was all about mutants and the threat they might have to society. About fifteen minutes in and so far it had been pretty tame. Just some what if scenarios and one ripped from the headlines segment about a little girl who had died in a Brother hood attack in Tulsa. The mother had told her story with tears in her eyes and Liz had actually started to feel sorry for the lady until she started spouting off her hatred for mutants and how she wanted them to all pay. Adorable. Then some big military man came on the screen and started talking about how the crimes with mutant involvement were rising and that the government would have to take steps to cull the mutant threat. "Well screw you too." Liz snorted as she spooned in ice cream into her mouth. This was downright depressing. Finally it looked like they might get some support when a SHIELD spokesperson came on to defend them. Liz's hopes were soon dashed as the SHIELD spokesperson didn't seem to be that high up or in the know and the 60 Minutes reporter cut through every argument and generally made the representative look stupid. The show went to commercial and Liz groaned in disapproval. "Unbelievable," she called at the television. She turned to someone else sitting sprawled across the other couch. "Gotta love all this fair and balanced reporting, right?" She pulled out some extra spoons she had swiped from the kitchen. "Y'all want some ice cream?" |

"I'd love some." Jay said taking a spoon and scooping out some of the ice cream for himself before putting it in his mouth and eating it, leaving the spoon there for a moment despite it being clean of the frozen goodness. It was nice to see Liz again, though he totally did not expect it to be because she was also a mutant. That meant there were only five people in their old house now. Ma, Joelle, the twins, and their adoptive brother Ray. He was really starting to hope that Ma was using the money that she didn't spend on the kids to hire some help with the farm or something, other wise he considered just dropping out and going back home to help out again. Then again, he'd lose some pretty important things that he had now, and ma would probably whooped his ass from there to New York and back again if she found out he dropped out of college, even if they were just online courses. "I just love how these are always slanted in one direction. Yeah its sad that people get hurt, but its not just humans. There are plenty of mutants who've been getting hurt and killed like crazy and they never get some big 60 Minutes special." Jay commented, for Pete's sake, he was one of the mutants that died by the hands of a human. He got better, but still. "Depressing news aside. How have the last few weeks been for you Lizzy?" Jay asked looking over to his sister before scooping out some more ice cream before sticking the spoon back in his mouth awaiting an answer. |

Handing her brother the tub and a spoon, Liz licked on her own spoonful of ice cream, scrunching up her nose at the television. "Damn propaganda is all it is." She said with a sigh. It was a refreshing thing for Liz to be able to swear. She could never get away with it at home, as Ma's sharp hearing seemed to be able to pick up on four letter words almost before they were even uttered. Liz's mouth had been washed out with soap far too many times for her to completely be used to cussing so every time she did it there was a slight hesitation before she said the word. Giving her brother a nasty grin because she knew he wouldn't approve, she yawned dramatically. "Things have been good Ah suppose. Ah'm still getting used to things. The first time Kitty Pryde walked through a wall on me Ah almost had a heart attack. Then Ah almost screamed when Mr. Wagner teleported into a room Ah was in. But it turns out he's actually a really nice guy. And Ah love his accent." "Other than that not too much to report. Classes are about the same as back home. Except that Ah don't think Ah've ever had a teacher that dresses like Ms. Frost. Ah don't even know how she fits in to some of those outfits. No wonder all the boys in that class are making such horrible grades." She drew herself up haughtily in an imitation of the White Queen. "And now class we will be discussing the lingerie I'm currently wearing and why none of you boys can seem to look me in the eyes." She giggled as she sank back into the couch. |

JP Austin sibs Watching television shows on the TV happened to be one of the best things Anne Lee could think of. Yes, the Internet allowed you to watch TV and Anime series a day or so after the premiere. On most occasions Anne Lee wanted to enjoy the show without a hoard of fans filing into the media room. However, this 60 Minutes special she didn't want to wait for. Reason being, what she suspected would be biased broadcast she'd rather watch instead of reading more biased remarks on blogs, youtube comments, and twitter/facebook updates. Another reason Anne Lee wanted to watch the special with the flock of other students was her brother. Mittens was sure to get angry during it. At least she thought he would since they'll only show the humans side. Probably wouldn't be actual mutants being interviewed in it. Why would there be? Either way, Anne Lee really wanted to see if steam would fume from her brother's cat ears. How angry would the special cause Mittens? ...she wanted to be there for him if he got mad. Robert sat balanced on the arm of the couch. In the chair next to him his sister sat cross-legged with a popcorn bowl in her lap. Snacks to a news special, crazy? Even Liz had ice cream. Inwardly the catboy shook his head. He wanted his undivided attention on the screen and not munching away. This wasn't a movie after all. ...the popcorn did smell good. At first Robert's expectation of the special would be 'fairly balanced' until the lady who'd lost a kid to the Brotherhood started to sprout hatred. It wasn't a surprise she did, it just marked how the rest of the show would go. The military man spewed about the raise in mutant crime (which made sense since more mutants were coming out of hiding) and the guy from SHIELD wanted to tell about mutants. Ha, SHIELD purposely sent the low rank guy he bet. Gah! "I'll have some!" Robert said forcefully trying to keep his anger in check. This should have been expected. Is that why Anne Lee summoned the popcorn? "Though, I'll rather have charlie brown ice cream." He could feel his tail flick irritably against the side of the couch. "There's no chocolate peanut butter in the mansion," Anne Lee answered her brother. She held him out a spoon. "So you're stuck with rocky road." So, she was right to see the special now than wait for it to come to the Internet. Well, she really didn't read the youtube comments anyways. They were nonsense. Instead of making fun of her brother because he was a mad kitty, Anne Lee listened to Jay question about Liz's first weeks here. They were roommates but Anne Lee didn't feel right asking her a ton of question since her sister Melody shared a room with her. There was no trying to convince Liz that she was a terrible roommate or a neat freak or any of the fun times she had introducing herself to the new ones in the past. Heck, even Melody got claimed as her roommate before she even took three steps inside the front gate. "My first day here I saw a man with red eyes and black pupils," she said. "He was cool but he left." Robert shot her a warning look not to continue. "But Mittens doesn't ogle at the White Queen because he's too studious on class work." Out of the corner of her eye Anne Lee saw Mittens give a low hiss. |
