Kash pulled up to the Xavier institute and parked. It was amazing looking out of his window and seeing the landscape that surrounded the beautiful mansion. It was a work of art and he was very impressed. He slowly opened his door and got out. He took a deep breath while stretching. The cool air flowed through his short hair and he felt energized. Kash began to walk around his car to the trunk. He popped it and began to grab his things. He had two bags of clothes, a backpack he slid on with other belongings and a laptop.

Kash rested his head on the trunk and pushed it down so it would close. His hands were full so it was easier. Like hitting your butt against the car door to close it. Now he began his walk to the front. As soon as he entered he noticed how old the building seemed. There was history here, maybe he would dwell into it further once he got settled in. He then entered the mansion. It was old fashion in style again on the inside. There were people moving back and forth, a few glanced at him. He set his bags down and pulled out a peice of paper that told him where his room was.

The journey didn't take long before he made it to his dorm. Once he entered he noticed how quiet it was. From the looks of it someone else was obviously living in here as well. So now Kash knew he had a roommate, he hoped they would get along. He threw his bags down and decided he would unpack later. Hopefully his roommate wouldn't rummage through his things, that would piss him off royally. Kash would have to wait to meet Kevin Ford later. Without further adue he was on the move again.

This time he went to the student lounge. There was quite a few people in here and they were all doing something. Some of them sat at tables other played video games and other were busy texting or talking on there cell phones. There was a lot of hardware in this place, the more the better in Kash's world. He chose sit in the corner, he didn't feel like being to social for the moment. He was the new guy after all.

"Bloody hell," Rahne murmured, shaking her head. "An' where is he now?"

"He uh..." Francine Masters, fourteen years old, possessor of two more pairs of arms than the average human being, stammered as she stood in the doorway to Rahne Sinclair's room. One hand scratched her head, another pair was folded at her chest, a third pair akimbo while the last free limb was propped up against the doorframe, supporting the girl's weight. "They said he's hiding behind the TV in the student lounge. Just kinda... quietly sobbing, or something. He's been there for a long time and nobody knows why. He won't say."

Rahne heaved a heavy sigh as she stood up from her desk's chair and adjusted her t-shirt some. A long time? She would certainly have liked to have been told about this earlier.
"Thank ye, Francine. I'll take it from here."

If there was one of her kids who was always up to something, it was this one. He had a knack for mischief, a need of sorts to get himself into trouble, and it frequently happened. But hiding away and crying? This wasn't his usual modus operandi.

The moment she entered the students' lounge, the pungent smell of Elmer's glue wafted to her courtesy of her superhuman sense of smell. She gave a quick glance to the various students assembled and made her way to the television set.

"Ricky?" she said softly, crouching down beside the TV set. "Ye know this is probably nae the best place t' work on an arts n' crafts project, aye?"

"I... huh... a-huh... it was an accident," he meeked out through sobs, back faced to her. His large, pointed bat-ears swiveled back some to point in her direction.

"What was an accident, luv?"

"I... I was practicing flying in the hallway, and I was doing good and then I wasn't doing good and I fell and I broke it and I'm trying to fix it but I can't and I'm so so sorry please don't be mad I didn't mean it I'm sorry..."

He turned around just enough to show her, clutching the remains of a china vase in his batlike wings. The chips were lathered in glue, but not a one of them was assembled together to reshape the vase.

"Oh, dear..." she murmured, shaking her head. "I've told you again an' again, Ricky, ye come to me when ye want to practice an' I will help you."

"I know but I wanted to get better before the next session please don't be mad I'm sorry."

"I'm not angry. I'm glad yuir nae hurt. But this is why 'tis important that ye do as I say. Yuir very lucky ye dinnae hurt yuirself." She pulled her head back, and turned to the students assembled.

"Could somebody grab me a wash rag an' a bowl of water?"

[size0]Say the dog and butterfly,
in the air they like to fly.
Dog and butterfly.
She knew she had to try,
and she float back down to the warm soft ground,
laughing - she don't know why,
but she had to try, she had to try.
Dog and Buttefly.

Surge lugged her backpack into the lounge shortly after Miss Sinclaire had stepped in. Judging from the lack of proper seating, she thought maybe she’d be better off in her room. She had an hour or so before she had to get ready to head into North Salem for work, and decided to do some studying amongst friends, but with all the commotion going on, eh, well suffice it say that today she wasn’t up for hearing the smacktalk getting tossed around in between virtual explosions. She had a few tests coming up and...Oh, thats why Rahne was here. She eyed the little situation over by the fiery haired teacher and her little, bat-like student. Dropping her bag by one of the couches, Nori put aside any thought of studying for the moment. “I’ll get it, Miss Sinclaire!” she said before ducking back out briefly, returning with a dampened hand towel a few moments later.

She weaved her way through the assembled students, crossing in front of a game in progress and drawing the ire of the players involved, passing by Kash, she nodded. She gave him a passing smile and nodded, realizing he must be new. Finally through the gauntlet of uninterested kids, she made her way to the little circle of people who’d taken interest in the kid’s plight and pushed her way through.

Moving herself over to the pair, she crouched down, handing the towel to Rahne and patting Ricky on the head. “Wha’ happened?” Brown eyes travelled to the broken vase and suddenly, she knew why the bat-kid was sobbing. If she thought she’d get in trouble with Rahne, she’d probably start crying too. Rahne did a good job at keeping her feral feelings at bay, but Nori had heard stories of when she had unleashed her fury.

Looking to Rahne, she rested her forearms on her knees. “Is he okay? He didn’t cut himself on it, did he?” Surge had never had much interaction with the woman. Her job was keeping an eye on and teaching the youngest kids the school took in, and that was something Surge respected. A lot. Some of these kids had no idea what had happened to them, and Rahne was there to calm them and teach them the ins and outs of being what they were, and giving them an education in a world where many people would have them fend for themselves.

They had to get those sharp pieces cleaned up before the rampant glue made the whole process more of a chore than it had to be. She looked around, and called out to the whole room. "Anybody know where there is a broom and dustpan or somethin'?"

The lounge was full of life. Everyone seemed to be having some kind of fun. Be it on the games or game boards that they had set up on the tables. It looked like some kind of daycare for older people. These people, including himself, were "special" so it appeared that maybe these people needed this kind of thing to feel comfortable. Xavier was a very kind man it seemed, to have a school dedicated to these people, and now he was invited to join them, it was very nice.

Soon there was a problem when he heard something break. Soon there was another mutant in the room looking for the culprit behind the noise. Kash knew who it was, the strange bat boy, he had broken something made of glass. He couldn't make out what it was but it must have had some importance. The child unsuccessfully tried to glue the pieces together and instead just made a mess. Kash tried to ignore the child but he was the star of the show it seemed.

Bay boy didn't seem to get into that much trouble as the women approached him and talked to him. Kash didn't know what she was saying, probably something comforting. As this was happening another women who had bright blue hair walked past him, giving him a smile. Kash gave a little grin back as well, simply out of kindness. The girl soon asked for a broom or dustpan. Kash swiveled his head trying to spot one, he of course didn't expect to find one at all, at least not in his range of vision. Sure enough however there happen to be a broom in one of the corners. Kash grabbed it and walked over to the bright hair colored women and handed it towards her. " Here you go..." He said with the broom out forward for her to grab.

"Thanks t' ye, miss," Rahne said with a smile and a nod of her head as she accepted first the rag and then the bowl of water. "Would ye like to come out now, Ricky?"

"Uhhh... huh... *snff*..." he wiped tears out of his eyes with the back of his arm, lower lip quivering some. It was sometimes easy to forget with his usually brazen and fearless demeanor that he was still but a very young boy, still not as grown up as he wished he was. "Yeah..."

"There we go," she said with a small smile. The boy stood up awkwardly, clutching onto the pieces of pottery as well as he could. His batlike wings made that task easier than one would think, and he managed to keep most of them in his grasp.

He gave awkward glances to the students around him, cheeks blushing in embarrassment. Much like a bat, he didn't see them very well, mostly shapes and vague shades of color. His hearing was where the bulk of his senses rested, and was capable of differentiating between people based on sounds so subtle that most others wouldn't be able to pick them up.

"Thank ye very much, both of ye," Rahne said to both Noriko and Kash as they had both hopped to to help. It was heartening to know that there were so many willing to be of assistance, even in small matters such as this. "Let's toss this stuff, alright?"

"But... *snff*... but I gotta fix it, I broke it... I..." he stammered, clutching onto the remains of the vase as if they were something precious.

"'Tis just a thing, Ricky - an' if we need or want another, we can always go out an' buy one. What matters is that ye're nae hurt."

She led him over to the waste bin in the corner of the room and gently guided his hands down to drop the pieces into the bin.

"Now," she said, picking him up with one arm and setting him down on a chair set up against the wall, away from the bulk of the action so that the other students could get back to their games. "Ye're a gluey mess, so what say we get this cleaned up?"

"O... okay..." he stammered, still looking awfully ashamed.

In many ways, Rahne Sinclair was more than just a teacher for these kids. While some were brought here by concerned and loving parents, there were others who were rescued and brought here - Ricky was one such case, as tended to be true of more "extreme" mutations. In those cases, she also doubled as a parental figure, a "mommy" so to speak.

She picked the rag up and rung it out into the bowl, dabbing gently at his face.

"There we go," she said with a smile as the still-wet glue came off easily. The two who helped with this little situation - she'd have to talk to them once this was through, if for no other reason than to thank them. She knew the blue-haired girl, even if she couldn't recall her name, but the other one - she couldn't place his scent or his face.

“You’re welcome, Miss Sinclaire.” Said the electrokinetic as she handed the stuff off to the teacher. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched all the activity in the room. It kinda made her wish she didn’t have to work tonight. But oh well, time is money, and she needed to spend time so that later she could spend money. She still had a little time to chillax anyways, work wasn’t until four.

Surge moved out of the way as Rahne moved Ricky and some chunks of the vase over to a little more open area so she could clean him up. Poor kid, he was only trying to impress her. At least he didn’t cut himself on the vase or anything. Hands on her hips, her gaze shifted from the teacher tending her student over to the mess on the floor. “Hmm, guess I better find that broo-Oh!” As she turned around to look for it, she was greeted by the site of the stranger she’d spied on the way in, and he had exactly what she was looking for. “Oh, wow. Thanks!” She said, taking it from him when he offered it. Turning back to the bits of glass and quickly drying glue, she crouched down, trying to sweep the mess up off of the hardwood floor. Looking back to the new guy while she did so, she smiled. “Heya, I’m Noriko Ashida. You’re new here, I guess?”

When most of the larger bits were safely in the dustpan, she got down on all fours, nudging the little bits stuck with Elmer’s to the floor free with the tips of the steel-clad gloves covering her hands. It was a little bit of oomph, but all the same it only required a little bit of elbow grease. Finally, she sat back on her knees. “I guess the rest is gonna need steam-cleaned or somethin’.” Pushing herself to her feet, she grabbed the dustpan and began to walk over to the wastebasket near one of the couches. Stopping as she passed Kash, she extended her free hand to him. It was a left-handed handshake but screw it, it all meant the same to her, and besides, she was sure new guy here didn’t want glue all over him. “Welcome to Xavier’s.”
