Location: Library, Xavier Institute Date: October 26, 2pm There were still classes that had yet to end today, which was probably the reason why it was so quiet. That and the slight drizzle outside that had all but the most desperate of sports fanatics running back into the mansion. Her last class had been study hall, and since the majority of her homework had been done already, she had been allowed to leave. Sarah had heard the snickers as she got up from those who were still stuck studying – she had grinned at a few of them before escaping. A quick stop in her room had been made to pick up her current project, before slipping into the lower level of the library. Dark jeans and a forest green blouse made her look unremarkable, her dark hair down and straight, framing a rather innocent face. Sarah managed to go unnoticed as she took a seat at one of the tables, setting her laptop bag down. An unusual array of materials was pulled from it, as the laptop was opened and set aside, followed by a small toolkit, a plastic box, and a Nintendo DS gaming system. The system was open at the back, wires and hardware exposed. She’d had the system for a day now – one of the younger students had come to her in tears, having dropped the system in the pool. He had begged her to fix it, which Sarah agreed to do. The plans and tech specs were pulled up on the laptop screen, the mini tool kit opened as she slipped her feet out of her clogs under the table. From the plastic box, bits and pieces of the hardware was extracted, and her eyes never bothered to glance at her computer screen as she began piecing it back together. In truth, the laptop’s tiny binary voice was murmuring in her mind, explaining each move she had to make. In tune with the technology, she felt the humming around her, made by the background noise of all the technology on campus. Sarah ignored the few noises that actually came from the library itself, focusing on refitting each piece back together. By the time she had fit the back plate on, it was practically buzzing in her fingers. Sarah could feel the gratitude – or what would be called such in any human – it felt for having been fixed. Smiling proudly, she replaced it in a case, and stretched, finally returning to the real world. Just in time to hear a rather loud curse, directed at a copier. Glancing over, she rolled her eyes. “…It’s out of paper, dude. Feed it.” Sarah called out to the moron, who glanced over in confusion, before grumbling his way into changing the paper tray. A comment from the copier, which was tempted to shoot paper at the boy, caused Sarah to giggle, turning back to the laptop in an attempt not to garner too much attention for her random laughter. |
