Lucia had decided that the most laborious task of being an educator was marking student papers.

It was a responsibility that she rarely enjoyed discharging due to its time consuming nature. After each class the blonde would be drowned beneath a veritable pile of papers that could choke a legion of donkeys. Sheet after sheet, equation after equation, the seemingly insurmountable challenge could only be conquered most thoroughly with the consumption of time. Precious time. Fun time. Personal time.

And it didn't stop there.

To compound the issue further was her own required assignments for her Masters degree. Then on top of that squatted a very special personal project that required the blonde to cart about a quantum physics book sizable enough to be used as a murder weapon. That was without the print-out sheets of global research findings to compliment her needs.

And so, gripped by a dour mood, Lucia made her way to the study lounge with a thick pyre of paperwork and a tome-like book resting heftily on her forearms. She figured if any place could afford the serenity required to complete her duties it was the study lounge. It was usually empty, as most students preferred the comfort of their own warm, sometimes damp, rooms. Lucia would also rather the luxury of her own quarters, but alas it housed too many electronic distractions that were a hazard to her studies.

So, making her way up the stairs and stopping at the entrance, Lucia was instead greeting with the sight of Rahne's back. The blonde had a good few inches above the Scot-girl in height, and so could see above her features the gathering of mutants that lay within the lounge.

Hmm, Lucia wondered silently. Did she still want to enter? She was, after all, as much a teacher as she was a student. Her presence tended to curb any of the more eccentric of activities the students might otherwise perform in the absence of an authority figure, and she didn't want to dampen the fun.

Bugger it, she decided. I'll sit in the corner.

'Rahne, honey,' Lucia started gently, 'Don't stand in the door way. It's a fire-hazard.'

Keren asked what the flower thing was and if they had a repeat offender. Bobby was quick to answer, “It’s one of the animated roses. Don’t think it’s the same rose… but they like to hide my stuff.” Kiril answered his earlier question about what was up but he was stiff. Like he was the big man on campus. Or like he was an actual authority figure and the newer people scared of him.

Which was hard for the iced mutant to grasp. He wasn't scary. Jason Vorhess was scary, sharks were scary, hell even clowns were sometimes creepy. But the Iceman? When did he get scary? “You can relax man. I won’t bite. I try to not even give ya frost bite. But I can’t help it I’m a cool guy.”

Rahne then came in and remarked on him cleaning up his mess. Which made Bobby grin like a goofy idjit. Then she told him to shave. He gave her a mocking gasp in return and said, “Dreadful?! I look rugged! Plus it’s Movember! I need to represent, Rahney.” As soon as Rahne had finished speaking a voice was heard from behind.

It was Lucia, one of the other teachers at the fantastic school of mutants. Bobby smirked and said, “Naw, it’s only a hazard if she just stood there during the fire.” With a quick adjustment of his shoulders he quickly added, “No fire would get past me.” Keeping a grin the iced mutant added a wink.

Bobby, now getting tired of holding two blocks of ice, decided to combine the big clumps of ice into one by freezing around them like a rolling suitcase. It wouldn’t roll of course, he was just showing off. And he could set it down instead of being rude and talking with his arms full.

"'Fire hazard', please," Rahne said with a shake of her head with a light chuckle bubbling forth from her throat. "The first inkling of a fire, an' I'll know before it gets outta hand. This nose is quite possibly the sharpest on campus, I'm nae the slightest bit worried about a fire sneakin' up on me."

And that wasn't fully a brag, since in comparison to so many talents amongst the faculty and students, "having a very sensitive nose", in her opinion, was an incredibly humble talent. It was a far cry from being able to destroy mortar with a gesture, or break the sound barrier, or walk through walls or what have you.

At Bobby's explanation, Rahne tilted her head to the left, eyes squinted some, trying to see this "rugged" he was claiming.
"If by 'rugged' ye mean that it looks like somethin' crawled onto yuir face an' died, then sure, ye look quite rugged."

She hadn't the slightest idea about what he was referring to otherwise though.
"Besides, last I checked, 'twas pronounced 'November, with an enn in front - not to mention ye've got a nice face an' 'tis a shame to hide it behind scraggly fuzz like that."

[size0]Say the dog and butterfly,
in the air they like to fly.
Dog and butterfly.
She knew she had to try,
and she float back down to the warm soft ground,
laughing - she don't know why,
but she had to try, she had to try.
Dog and Buttefly.

The trash folder was swelling up as Keren went through his email. Sadly, there were no miracle shakes for his aching muscles, so he’d given up on that and went back to his gmail. When the inbox had dwindled to online coupons and daily recipes from Betty Crocker, Keren noticed another message from his aunt. This one was a forwarded letter from Sabra.

They letter detailed how the negotiations were going with the Israeli Mossad. To them, Rachel was little more than a deserter, and they wanted her to pay for these crimes. Israel was hit hard by those earthquakes and attacks, and they needed every hand on deck. S.H.I.E.L.D. however, seemed to see something in his aunt, and they were genuinely fighting for her. As was usual when he thought about these things, Keren was conflicted. Admittedly, as time went on, this confliction began to wan. The institution of S.H.I.E.L.D. was really working hard for his family, and that was too important for him to ignore.

Apparently, negotiations weren’t going as smoothly as Keren would have hoped. All was not yet lost, but the situation looked grim. Part of him wished they could have played dead, and hidden away from them. Rachel however didn’t like that idea, she had a duty after all, and she wouldn’t hide from her problems. It was always best to face them as soon as possible and deal with whatever consequences came her way. Had they hidden and been caught, the amount of proverbial ‘shit’ they’d be in might just drown them. At least in this path, her family was only knee deep.

Vaguely Keren heard the joking and teasing of the older kids. A quirk of being an eighteen year-old student at Xavier’s was that you were only a few years younger than most of the staff.

“Hi Ms. Sinclair, and Lucia too.” He smiled and waved at them a bit distractedly. “And no worries Iceman, I for one like your dead squirrel, ahem…I mean stubble."
