((Timeframe: Approximately half an hour after the end of http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...?showtopic=7682 , because why the hell not? It's not like we as players can't handle one extra thread :) ))

Rahne didn't take all too much time cleaning up. A quick shower after the session, a few glasses of water (choking on hard light really dries the throat out), a simple t-shirt and jeans combo and a comb through her short hair and she was good to go.

After all, she'd promised Everett, Lucia, and Keren that she'd buy them ice cream, and she was good on her word. She prided herself on always being good on her word.

It was a simple walk from the mansion grounds to the bus stop, then a relatively short wait from then until the bus arrived.

Soon enough, they were out at Salem Center, away from the area of the town Rahne had most recently been in... an area of the town Rahne preferred not to go back to if she could help it. It wasn't particularly pleasant to revisit those memories.

"Well, here we are," she said as they stood outside the Baskin-Robbins of a small strip mall. Dry Cleaners to the left, Subway sandwich shop to the right. Small indeed.

It was little secret that Lucia had a ravenous thirst for ice cream. Such things as flavor and quantity were inconsequential, what took priority was quality...and Rahne had promised the Rolls-Royce Phantom of ice cream this afternoon. Having departed from Xaviers Institute, the group of four were housed inside a bus as it ferried them into the classier area of New York City.

But despite this promising bounty, Lucia was not affixed to the walls in a state of euphoric high.

Instead she sat by a window, alone, uncharacteristically silent as she stared out into a blurring montage of passing traffic. She had these moments sporadically when she'd almost brood on a topic that her expressionless face made indecipherable. These moments conspired against her ditzy blonde demeanor, but as of now she paid appearances little heed. She wanted to ponder on her own, and straighten out the endless mathematical chaos storming inside her skull.

"Well, here we are," Rahne announced brightly as the bus groaned to a stop.

Waiting a few moments for those in the deeper seats to move past her, Lucia drew herself up and exited the bus last, behind the other three. Dropping down behind them, she noticed for the first time that she was only a single inch shorter than both Keren and Synch. Curious.

'Lead on.' Lucia offered, her voice eerily soft and devoid its usual energy.

“Yea, totally” he replied while he waited at the bus stop with Lucia. “I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it was really fun…I’m glad I did it. And that all you big kids let me play with you.” He addressed them all with that last sentence, for Rahne an Everett just arrived. “I can’t wait until tomorrow morning; all that pain should be tons of fun.” After saying that he realized he’d be the only one to get sore. Lucia and Everett probably flew the whole time, and he was only keeping Rahne back. That run was a breeze to her.

The ride into town was pleasant enough. Keren would have rather ridden his scooter behind the bus, too many starts and stops, but he didn’t want to seem aloof. The drive was a familiar one; he’d already adventured into Salem many times since arriving on Xavier’s doorstep a month ago. What made the trip different was company, for this was his first excursion amongst his peers. This distinction was not at all lost on him, and he kept wringing his hands anxiously in his lap. Whatever you do, don’t make a fool of yourself…

"Well, here we are," said Rahne upon their arrival. Keren was tempted to go into subway for a sandwich, his body ached for real food. Instead he followed the group into the ice-cream parlor.

He ordered plain soft serve from the attractive shop clerk. The ‘Very Berry Strawberry’ looked delicious, but he wasn’t entirely sure if it was kosher. Of course, he hadn’t truly been practicing his religion in months, but old habits die hard. It looked as if they were the only customers in the shop. “Thanks for the treat Ms. Sinclair. Next time it’s on me.”

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Who the heck was the guy that came up with that old saying? Whoever he was was a genius cause that is kind of how Everett felt right now. He and the others were about to head out to the city to get some good ol fashion ice cream. He arrived at the stop were the others had been waiting, hands in his pockets and a smile on his face. “Heh, boy you ain’t lying. If Red hadn’t been choking me and Lucia would have won for sure.” Everett patted Keren on the back as they entered the bus. “You did good though, kid.”

Everett took up a seat behind Lucia as the bus pulled off. If the truth were to be told, using those gravity powers of hers had been a little tiring for him. Had he really been using them in the insane ways that he could have there was no doubt that he would be too tired to do anything else until he got some sleep. But he kept things simple since they were up against friendlies. He sat back as much as he could in a bus seat and rested his head against the window next to him and closed his eyes. He could quite fall completely asleep due to the bumpy ride, but at least his eyes got a bit of rest.

Soon they arrived at their destination, Rahne being the first one to exit the bus. Upon entering the establishment, he let the ladies do their ordering first. Then he got himself the classic vanilla and cookie dough with chocolate bits sprinkled on top. Just looking at the dessert his mouth started to water. Everett dug into his pocket and pulled out some cash and then handed it to the clerk. “Yea I know you said you were buying, buuuut I can’t let ya pretty self spend money on my black ass.” He chuckled before taking a seat at one of the booths.

"Oh, pish-posh. Pain? If'n ye think this was rough, ye dinnae know the meanin' o' the word, Mister Dubarshi," Rahne said with a light laugh as they set foot into the parlor. She inhaled deeply, the scents of the sweet creams, the waffle cones and various mix-in toppings blending together into one cornucopia of a scent - yes, this was a good way to cap off that little session.

"Ohhhhhh, I'll taaaaaake..." Rahne was never particularly quick to decide when it came to ice cream. "Oh, lemme take a sample of this 'Quarterback Crunch'..."

Chocolate and caramel with rice puffs in vanilla ice cream... sounded lovely, but she wasn't sure. She reached out and accepted the tiny little sample spoon and slipped it into her mouth, pondering for a moment. She didn't really partake of chocolate too often anymore, particularly since Jack had such a bad reaction to it and she didn't want to have a dessert he couldn't.

"Oh! Oh, yes. Yes, this one. On a waffle cone, aye, thank ye muchly. An' aye, I'm payin' f'r all four of us."

"Okay," the clerk behind the counter said as he made his way over to the cash register. "That'll come up to eight ninety five..."

As Rahne began to dig through her little handbag for the money, Everett beat her to the punch, buying his own separately.

"Um... what?" Rahne lifted an eyebrow, a bit taken aback by the relatively crude way his comment was phrased. Well, crude as far as she was concerned.

"Okay, okay, so how much is left then?" she asked, shaking the comment off.

"Six seventy eight," the cashier said, still holding Everett's portion of the bill.

"Alright then, here's... bah, here's a ten," she handed him the cash, he counted it up, handed her the change.

"I dinnae see what the big deal is, Everett," she said as she approached the table they had picked out. "I'm perfectly alright with paying..."

Lucia followed the troupe into the ice-cream parlor and ordered her dish last. Whatever her distraction was the blonde was analysing it in silence. Even Everett's comment about an Arse of Ebon failed to shake her from her preoccupation.

'Um, excuse me? Miss?' It was the clerks voice. His insistence managed to penetrate Lucia's apathy and her eye-lids fluttered her back to the present.

'Hm? Oh, yes. I apologise.' the blonde answered, straightening her shoulders and gazing across the menu.

'Deliver to me, please, Ice Lord, a bowl containing: two scoops of chocolate-chip mint, one scoop of rainbow, another of double-chocolate and all four globes of frozen cream are to be smothered with your most delicious of sauces.'

The clerk blinked, 'Like, caramel?'

'Sure. Why not.'

After waiting several minutes, Lucia's order was finally delivered. Taking the cold bowl in both of her hands, she smiled sweetly and uttered a soft 'Thank you,' before departing.

Heading back to where the other three waited, Lucia sat down in whichever seat was empty and stared at the contents of her bowl. Prodding it a few times with the end of her spoon, the blonde finally sheared off a curl of ice cream and took it into her mouth. Upon touching her tongue, the vibrant flavor seemed to sink into her senses and a glimmer entered her eyes.

“Thanks for the treat Ms. Sinclair. Next time it’s on me.”

When Lucia peered at Yantra, something tugged at the corner of her lips to tighten them into a sly smirk. Splendid...more free ice cream.

'A most titillating idea,' she said 'I'll hold you to it.'

Keren blinked as everyone ordered their respective desserts. The little group they’d made was really…'hodge-podge'. Their personalities were all completely different, so he wondered if they would have been friends in a different, mutant free lifetime. It was interesting how having and extra gene could bring such vastly different people together.

The blood in Keren’s cheeks grew hot as the clerk looked down (rather confusedly) on the group; Lucia’s rather grandiose way of ordering ice-cream embarrassing him a touch. “I had a few more tricks up my sleeve.” He told Everett while she ordered, Mal (in her invisible state) swearing loudly. “The game wasn’t quite over yet.”

“No I don’t mean the running and such, that much was doable…though Ms. Sinclair didn’t make it easy.” He looked at her with a mischievous smirk on his lips. “Downing that big crocodile thing took a lot out of me though; I think that was the most juice I’ve ever used…” Consciously at least, but he finished the rest within the confines of his mind. In fact he probably used way more than was necessary in his eagerness to appear competent.

As he licked his bland frozen yogurt, he thought back on the Danger Room exercise. “So what happened Ms. Sinclair? With the flag I mean.” He was thinking that she’d consumed it to make it inaccessible to the opposite team. Which, in his mind, would have been clever. When the game was won the flag would dissolve into nothingness…so no messy aftermath. Except, the flag didn’t dissolve…which seemed strange to him. Well…that and the suffocating bit.

Everett was going to have to spend a lot more time around Rahne for her to understand him. He did not mean to be rude or anything like that. It was just the way he was used to talking because people usually understood what he meant. Rahne on the other hand did not take it the right way. It was probably due to her sheltered pass life. He patted her on the shoulder before sitting. “I didn’t mean that you paying was a big deal, Rahne. It’s just that usually the dude is the one that pays for the lady, you know? You see what I’m saying?”

His attention was turned to Keren. “Hehe, yea I bet you did. It was about to really go down when I got your abilities though.” Everett had not even thought about the soul manifestation that had appeared for only him to see. If he recalled correctly, it was a black wolf. He would think about that later. Right now it was time for some ice cream. He looked from her to the delicious bowl of ice cream resting in front of him. It looked so good just sitting there, waiting to be devoured. He took a bite of the vanilla first before scooping up some cookie dough. The combination ran together so well.

Keren’s question made him think back. “Yea, I’m curious about that as well. I honestly don’t understand what exactly happened there.”

"Lucia," Rahne shook her head and chuckled at Miss Hardestat's little display. She couldn't help but wonder if the poor guy behind the counter was going to go home and tell his mom and dad all about the weird lady at work today. "Ye're incredibly silly, ye know that?"

And then the question came to the "flag incident". Rahne got the feeling that this was going to come up again and again and again for some reason. Hey, you remember the time you almost choked to death on a hologram? That was hilarious.

"Well, the flag was floating into her hand," she said quietly, thinking it best to keep the volume down in case of eavesdropping. This area of town wasn't exactly the most tolerant, after all. "So I just jumped in the way, snagged it in muh teeth, kept runnin'. She caught me in an anti-gravity field, so I scrambled along the ceiling for a bit, but when she suddenly cancelled it, I panicked, inhaled a bit too deeply and it just went right down the hatch."

She shrugged her shoulders, taking a lick of her ice cream cone. It felt good, the smooth, cold cream soothing the slight soreness in her throat.
"I dunno why it happened. I'm hardly what one would consider an expert."

Lucia busied herself with the consumption of ice cream, a task of which she was exceptionally skilled. She took her time savoring the variety of flavors and combinations and thanked whatever entity was responsible for all that was that they had taken the time to create such a fitting treat.

"Lucia," Wolfsbanes voice drew the blondes attention away from her bowl.

"Ye're incredibly silly, ye know that?"

Lucia noisily licked a curl of chocolate that clung to the corner of her mouth. 'Am I?' she responded quietly, before returning to her ice cream.

Then Synch brought up the choking incident.

Choking indeed...

Lucia's ears perked up at the resurfacing of this topic, as it had perplexed her ever since witnesses its impossibility. It was a rare event when her brain was confounded by physics-based issues, so she had no problem recalling each one. After Rahne had finished speaking, the dear, Lucia interjected, unable to contain herself any longer on the topic at hand.

'Gentlefolk, what we witnesses was impossible. Impossible. The only way in which Rahne could suffocate on such an object would be if it had been teleported directly into her throat, and seems as such technology does not exist, in a conventional form anyway, I can see no way...no way...that light could be projected through Rahnes neck and into her esophagus.'

To emphasise her point, Lucia withdrew a napkin from the dispenser at the centre of the table. Producing a pen from one of her many pockets, she translated her speech into graphic format.

'It's very simple. Light and reflection play an integral part in our ability to perceive the world. We are only able to see what is before us because light is reflecting off of the surface. You see, the world is governed by laws, and what we witnessed....

*** a five minute physics lesson passes ***

...and thus it would only be possible if photons of light were directly teleported into Rahnes throat. As such technology doesn't conventionally exist...yet...what we saw should.not.have.happened.'

There were now over a dozen napkins with writing strewn about the table.

Leaning back in her chair, the blonde took a refreshing scoop of ice cream into her mouth, savoring the taste before exhaling wearily.

'I'm sorry I had to simplify the issue, but by the phenomenons very nature...it is a mystery.'

“I didn’t mean all that flashy stuff you were doing. It’s all about nuance.” He jokingly replied to Synch. Not to mention the fact that he would not have been able to do the ‘flashy stuff’ anyway. He could barely stand. “Anyone tell you how creepy your abilities are? It’s like someone with the talent of stealing other people’s faces.” Keren didn’t know firsthand about the local anti-mutant climate, he just figured that this place was no different than the rest of the world. He kept his voice low so only his comrades could hear.

“Ah, so it was an accident…well I mean, obviously the choking was an accident. I just thought you were doing some more quick thinking that went awry. But you feel okay right? All you X-Men…” he mouthed the word. “Seem good at playing down pain.”

“Not that you’re on to talk.” Piped Mal. “You do your fair share of pretending too.”

Lucia’s focus was spent wholly on her ice-scream, until the talk of the flag was dredged up. Immediately, she dove into a passionate speech about how the Danger Room is physically impossible…or something. By the time her physics lesson was over, Keren yogurt cone was melting a little on his hand. “As um, stirring as that was Lucia.” He gestured to all of the scribbled on napkins. “It can’t be impossible, because it happened.”

But still, what happened in the room should never have happened. That flag was a part of the surroundings so it should have vanished along with everything else when the program shutdown. He did not want to let this mess with his mind, but he could not help it. If something like that was possible there was no telling what kind of crazy shit could take place. That worried him. The students being in the Danger Room when something went wrong, it made him weary. Everett took a scoop of his ice cream to try and clear his mind. He would have to talk to Hank or one of the other braniacs when they got back.

That’s when fellow teammate Lucia spoke out. She sounded very enthusiastic when breaking down the… physics involved with hard light constructs and the body. She even made a little diagram on napkins to better illustrate her point. Everett just stared and ate his ice cream as she went on and on and on. He did find it to be somewhat educational, but damn. This girl was like a walking textbook on this stuff. By the time she finished, he was already half way done with the ice cream. “Hell when you think about it, nothing is impossible. I mean look at us. We’re walking proof of that. She can turn into a freakin werewolf, you can manifest your soul as a bird, she controls the very thing that keeps us grounded, and I can… well I do all of that.” He laughed.

"Keep it down, Everett!" Rahne whispered harshly before glancing back to the countertop. They were lucky that it seemed that the other customer in the store was chatting up the guy behind the counter and neither of them were particularly paying attention to the four of them.

"This town isn't exactly friendly towards people like us, okay?" she said, her tone of voice very soft, very quiet. "We just need t' keep it down a wee bit, okay? Volume down, dinnae let yuir voices get too loud, an' we'll be just fine."

She couldn't help but feel a tinge of embarrassment at Lucia's impassioned speech about how utterly impossible what happened was. She knew it was nothing personal, but on some deeper level, it felt somewhat like 'the wolf girl's so stupid that she managed to almost kill herself in a completely impossible way'.

"Thank ye, Mister Dubarshi. Aside from a wee bit o' soreness in muh throat, I'm fine. As for how possible or impossible it was, I would nae begin t' even comprehend how 'hard light' is possible to begin with. I'm a bloody grade school teacher. I teach ABCs, 123s, 'Jack an' Jill went up th' hill'.... I just accept that the Danger Room does what the Danger Room does an' dinnae think t' ask how or why."

Throughout it, she kept her voice low, quiet, almost at a whisper, but not quite. Whispering, after all, was considered suspicious.

After delivering her small lecture Lucia was overcome with silence. No longer speaking, the young blondes resistance was fragile at best in the face of her delicious ice cream and so the gorging begun. Lucia had gotten her vexation off of her chest, the others had contributed comments of their own and ice cream was being consumed...all was well with the world.

Until Keren pooh-poohed her conclusion.

“As um, stirring as that was Lucia. It can’t be impossible, because it happened.”

Typical English Major.

Lucia peered up from her bowl and straight at Keren's face. Maybe if she had divulged that the hardlight had been dragged up from the darkness of Rahne's soul then he might have had the vision to appreciate it.

'No, Keren,' the blonde started, gentle and patient in her delivery 'You misunderstand me. The very nature of its impossibility is clearly expository of an agent acting on behalf of a so-far undocumented phenomena. This demands study...'

The blonde reclined into her chair, the warnings of Wolfsbane to a loose-tongued Synch lost on a physicist whom was enraptured by an invisible problem. How very perplexing...

'The ramifications are incredible...the scientific community would be relentless.' Lucia uttered, holding the bowl of ice cream before her in a long moment of silence.

'Ahh this is great ice cream.' she finished, seemingly remiss of her physics discussion and happily digging into her treat.

Keren tried his best to hide his smirk as he shook his head at Everett’s indiscretion. It would have been something to escape the perils of the Savage Land, only to be taken by a human mob.

“Serves him right.” Scoffed the still bitter Mal. “’And I can do all of those things…’” She mocked, in a faux sing-song voice. Ignoring her jibs Keren said:

“Well I suppose this conundrum should be put to rest then, I am just glad you made it okay, Ms. Rahne.” It was in response to Lucia’s brazen patronization. Rahne didn’t seem like she was too keen on the subject, so Keren gave her a nice smile and tried to move the conversation away from her. “That was really cool though, it was my first ‘real’ Danger Room…” he mouthed the words. “…exercise. And one I don’t think I’ll forget anytime soon.” He was curious to know what their first experiences were.

He’d reached the cusp of his cone and took a nibble. Keren was eager to have another go in the Danger Room, but his body needed rest. Though motley this bunch was, the teenager enjoyed their company. Visiting in the ice-cream shop with them made him feel as if he was beginning to carve out a place for himself at Xavier’s; a feat he’d never manage to accomplish any place else.
