Time: 3:45 PM Date: November 15th The day had come, the day that the youngest Guthrie girl had always awaited. The day that she would come to the Xavier Institute. Since she was little, she had wanted to become a mutant. Almost all of her siblings before her had.. In fact, she didn't think it was that long ago that her youngest older sister, Melody, had her own powers manifest. Last year, she thought. Last year wasn't that long ago. Her greenish blue eyes were focused on the street ahead. North Salem was a small town, and people didn't seem to pay much attention to random cars that went in and out of the town. Staring out the window, Sue could feel the anticipation rising more and more in her gut. She hadn't seen Mel, or Jay, let alone Sam, in a long time. Liz had just come here not that long ago, so Sue had seen her within the three month span that she considered long. It was getting there, but it wouldn't be that long now until she saw most of her siblings, save for Paige. Paige had picked her up when she arrived at JFK, like the awesome older sister that she was. She was the one that was closest to the airport, as she worked with X-Factor, some mutant group. Paige had tried to explain it along the way, but Sue just really wasn't that interested in what they did. Maybe she would pay attention, next time she saw her oldest sister. But right now, her mind was focused on the Institute. What was it going to be like? She was sure that it was fun, and at other times, challenging. And then, the car pulled to a stop and Sue snapped herself back to reality.. And in front of her eyes, she saw the gates of the large school. She was ready, she knew it. There was no turning back now. Ma' would be proud.. Sue thought, smiling. Nearly jumping out the care door, before running off towards the gate, she peeked into door before she shut it. "Thank ya' for pickin' me up, Paigey! Ah love you!" She shouted in the car, perhaps a little too loud, and made her way towards the gates as her older sister drove away. Gulping a bit, her pace slowed a bit as she held her book-bag, which held most most of clothing, tightly. Then she approached the gate, though she didn't know that it couldn't be opened from the outside with some sort of permission. Trying to tug it open a few times, Sue became flustered and stopped promptly trying to bring her attention to someone. "Ah.. Urm.. Hello!? Is anybody there?! Ah'm Sue Guthrie! I think ya'll were expectin' me?" |

It was by chance that Neal happened to be near the phone when Paige had called. He wasn't particularly familiar with that Guthrie, but there were quite a few of them at the mansion and apparently, another soon to be dropped off at the gates. Mutant siblings were not a rarity. It was the nature of genetics, but the consistency in which their family experienced the phenomenon was odd. Surely one or two of the siblings would only be carriers of the X-Gene. He puzzled over the thought as he made his way to the main gate, waving absentmindedly to students as he passed, his mind on the peculiarities of mutation. Near as he could tell, their mutations were not even related. Thermochemical blast fields, metamorphing, size alteration, wings, electrical optic blasts. He supposed he could make a weak correlation between the physical nature of their powers, but it still seemed entirely random, though he had to remind himself that mutation was not exactly a predictable or orderly principle. Within his family, Neal had been the only mutant. He'd once felt isolated by the fact, despite his family's acceptance of gene active status. He wondered. He wondered how differently his life would have been had Sanjit developed an active X-Gene. Would their powers have been related or totally different? It was a curious thought, one he toyed with as he approached the front gate. "Ah.. Urm.. Hello!? Is anybody there?! Ah'm Sue Guthrie! I think ya'll were expectin' me?" "We were expecting you." He replied, opening the gate with a press of a button and a grin. He eyed the young mutant briefly, definitely seeing a resemblance, although the accent would be a dead giveaway. She was definitely a Guthrie. "Welcome to mutant school. I'm Neal." |

As rare as pre-pubescent mutations were, it wasn't every day that Rahne got a new student. Okay, scratch that. Let's start over with that train of thought, shall we? As rare as pre-pubescent mutations were, it was a very very rare occurence that Rahne got a new student. Quite frankly, it was quite possible to go several months without a single new student coming her way, and seeing as how Xavier's seemed to get a new student every other day, this was a long stretch of time to go without new blood. So needless to say, when she did get someone new, she was quite certain to make sure the kid felt welcomed. As she made her way downstairs, she went over what information she knew. Sue Guthrie (another Guthrie. How many Guthries were there, exactly? She never thought to ask Sam or Jay how many siblings they had, but it seemed like the family was well into the double digits). She apparently made it snow. In Kentucky, which as Rahne understood it, was not a common occurence. She hadn't been herself, so she wouldn't know. As she made her way out to the front gate, she stopped short. Oh, hell, she thought to herself. Beaten to the punch already. "Hello, Sue," Rahne called out as she walked up onto the scene. She glanced over to Neal, and gave him a small nod of her head as she extended her hand for Sue to take. "Muh name's Rahne Sinclair, I'll be yuir teacher, at least for yuir first few years here. I trust yuir trip here was pleasant?" |

Oh what have the past few months been like for the Guthrie clan. Between Liz developing powers a little later than the others, now hearing about little Suzie gaining some powers of her own. Meant the only ones left who were normal were Ma, Joelle, Ray Jr, and Lewis. Jay figured that if Suzie was a mutant, than it would be too far off before Lewis had some powers as well, girls were just supposedly faster to the puberty age than boys...which partially made him a bit worried about all the birds and the bees type stuff. Suzie had always been possibly the closest thing to a daughter that Jay would have for some time. He's been helping raising her since she was only a few months old after their dad died, wasn't long after that that Sam left, and the Paige left a few years later. While most of his other siblings had time with their father, and the two eldest of the Guthrie siblings, Jay had a special bond with the twins. Lewis was a lot like him at times when Jay was his age, and then Suzie was always such a sweet little princess when she wasn't listening to Jeb's bad influence. He heard about her powers, little Suzie-blue, making some snowflakes fall around the farm, bringing Christmas early. Her powers could very well develop into some form of cryokinsis or even weather manipulation, who knew. But right now he was having the hard time of feeding his wings through his thicker jacket. He hated this time of the year where things go cold. He had little to anything outside his own wings to keep him warm during the colder months since his mutation took away most of it not all his body fat. He couldn't fly if he was a fatty, now could he? He was just waiting for the moulting of his winter feathers to be coming in soon. They were thicker and warmer, able to stand the cold wind and snow better. Now that he was properly dressed in his thicker coat, wings sticking out from behind him he headed outside and started to fly towards the front gate expecting that to be where his little Suzie to be. Seems he was already late as others were meeting her before him. Jay smiled, at least Rahne was there, she'd be a good teacher for Sue. Jay made his descent and landed not to far from the group and his sister. "Hey little Suzie!" Jay said with a smile and quickly did the big brother embarassing by moving over to her, picking her up and hugging her before giving her a brotherly kiss on the cheek before setting her down. "How's it hanging, Snowflake?" He asked. "And um, thanks Rahne and Neal for helping her in and all." Jay said looking towards his slightly elder members of the institute. |

Not surprisingly, Sue had gotten a quick answer. She didn't know who the man was, but he was willing to let her inside. That was good, very good actually. The little girl smiled a bit and walked into the gates at he opened them, bowing her head to the man like a thanks. "Uh.. Thank ya', sir." Sue said, having had to think about what to say. Lucinda had always told Sue, and all of her other kids for that matter, not to talk to strangers. But after collecting her thoughts, Sue figured that he wasn't a stranger if he was here at Xavier's, right? Sue nodded her head, some of her dirty blond hair falling in her eyes. "Nice to meet you, Neal." She said, very quietly as she had noticed that someone else was walking up to her. Red hair. Green eyes. Hmm, she wondered who it was? She only knew of two people at the institute that had red hair and green eyes, and that was through all of her siblings letters back. Rahne Sinclair, and the co-headmistress, Jean Grey. But Jean supposedly had longer hair, right? The red-headed woman then got close enough to Neal and Sue to greet her. Rahne introduced herself, and asked Sue if her trip was.. Pleasant. Sue slowly nodded her head. "Hiya, Rahne.. Ah think my trip was good. Ah didn't quite like the plane though. It made me feel like Ah was up too high, and I was scared witless. One upsahde, though, is that I got to see Paigey again." Sue didn't expect either of them to know who 'Paigey' was, so she would be pleasantly surprised if either of them, or maybe only one, had. After she said this, it wasn't very long until she heard another voice. It was her older brother, Jay. Admittedly, Jay was the closest thing that Lewis and Sue had to a father growing up, which was weird. Kind of. Not really. "Jaybir--" Sue was interrupted in greeting him back as he scooped her up into his arms, and gave her a brotherly kiss on the cheek, then sat her back down, "--d." Sue blinked, her cheeks were a bit red as she didn't expect him to do that with two other people standing before them. Coughing a bit and shaking it off, she pounced her brother. "Ah missed you! How're Mel and Jeb?" She inquired, now looking down at her brother whom was basically tackled to the ground.. Though, Sue then remembered about his wings and jumped up. "Oo-oops! Sorry!" |

Neal almost frowned at being called a 'sir.' He wasn't that old, nor was he particularly authoritative. He didn't need the honorifics. Figuring she was probably nervous, after all he was a veritable stranger to this girl, he gave a dismissive wave, hoping to put her at ease. "No sirs necessary." He replied, never losing his grin "Just Neal is fine." He would have continued on, but her attention had been caught by something behind him. Turning to follow her eyes, he spotted his red-headed teammate, giving her a wave as she approached. It made sense that the lupine mutant would want to be one of the first to welcome a new student, especially one who would be under her tutelage. In general the teaching staff at Xavier's was amazing, but Rahne possessed an unmatched degree of dedication. The other teachers certainly weren't waiting to meet students at the gate. Watching as the introductions were made and small talk commenced, he chuckled in response to her description of flying. "Your brothers have never taken you that high, have they?" He asked, assuming they'd have taken their sister into the air before. Jay appeared very quickly after and all of Sue's shyness disappeared. Watching their interaction made him think of his own brother. He couldn't remember the last time he'd spoken to Sanjit; it was certainly time for a phone call. "Well then Sue, looks like you're in good hands here with Rahne and Jaybird," He said with a smile, wondering how long it would take for that name to become popular around campus. "I'll be seeing you around." Giving a wave to the group, he turned and headed back to the mansion, intent on calling to bug his older brother. -Exit Neal- |

"Oh, I can understand that just fine, I can," Rahne said with a small laugh as Sue explained her ill ease with airplanes. Rahne herself had mostly gotten over her fear of flying, remembering quite well the sheer horror that had gripped her, and by extension, the death-grip she herself had on the armrests of her seat, when she made that first flight out to the Savage Land. Made that flight overseas on a Boeing seem like a cakewalk. "And speakin' of flying..." Rahne murmured as Jay made his presence known. She couldn't help but flinch slightly as Jay swooped her up into an impromptu flight. The overprotective side of her (some would and had called it a "mother hen" tendency, which she absolutely hated) wanted to scold Jay for putting his own sister at risk like that, but Jay clearly knew what he was doing, and before too long they were both back on solid ground. "See you around, Neal," Rahne said with a light tilt of her head and a smile. She stifled a laugh as the girl practically knocked her brother onto his back, holding her hand up to her mouth, a visible gesture of the attempt to contain. "So... now that this happy reunion is all settled, what do ye say we get you all settled in, get yuir things up to yuir room an' show you around campus, aye? Who knows, ye may even meet some o' yuir classmates." |

"I told you before don't call me Jay-Ack!" Jay was then suddenly tackled down to the ground by surprise from the little eleven year old girl. He wasn't expecting that but luckily no damage was done, he didn't hit his head and his wings absorbed quite a bit of the impact. "Suzie, what'd ma say 'bout tacklin' people unprepared?" Jay asked with a fake frown before patting her head as she got off of him. He started to stand up and dusted himself up, helping the little girl up as well. "As I was saying, don't call me Jaybird so much, you'll make it sound like I do nuthin' but run around nekid." Jay chuckled. "Thanks for the help Neal, catch you around later." Jay said offering the older guy a slight wave as he started off on his own. Jay wasn't really familiar with the man but he was an X-man, thus he was good people, at least till someone proved him wrong. He smiled and looked at Rahne, putting his hand on his little sister's shoulder as he grabbed some of her bags. "Well I'm sure you two already got some sort of introduction's down, but I suppose I can do some as well. Sue, this is Rahne Sinclair, a close friend of mine and she's gonna be your main teacher. Rahne, this is my sweet little sister Suzie, one of the youngest of the Guthrie's, she's gotta twin brother back at home so you might be even getting another Guthrie to teach sooner or later." Jay says possibly adding to whatever they may have already said to each other. "An' Melly and Jeb are doing alright. Jeb's still Jeb and loves getting into trouble. Melody can't wait to see ya though, same with Liz. But Ms. Sinclair is right, we should start getting you settled in and stuff." Jay says. "You might get to meet some people and stuff." |

The young blond nodded her head slowly as Neal commented that no sir was needed, and that just Neal was fine. Sue was taught otherwise, but if he said so, then she might as well listen. She didn't want to get in trouble inadvertently by following the rules. That would not be cool. "Yes, mister Neal." Sue decided that sir, and mister, were two different honorifics. They were different enough, right? As Neal asked if her brothers had ever taken her that high, Sue shook her head. "Nope. And Mel hasn't either. Ah really can't say Ah blame 'em. Lewis and Ah are the babies." Sue nodded her head. By no means was she lying, the twins were the youngest, and as such, all of the older siblings protected them as much as they could, just like their parents would. Sue and Lewis, however, out of all of their siblings were closest to Jay. Jay then asked Sue what ma' said about tackling people unprepared, the young blond put her finger to her lip and began to think back.. Come to think of it, she could think of what it was. "Jaybird, you're crazy. Ma' never said anythin' 'bout tacklin' people unprepared." Sue said, looking over to her brother. Sue smiled a bit as Neal said that he would see her around. He was nice. "Goodbahe, Mister Neal! See ya' 'round, 'kay!" A heavy country twang was in the child's voice, one that was about as heavy as the other children back in Cumberland County. Sue's attention was quickly turned back to her brother as he said that he would continue the introductions of Rahne and Sue, Sue really hadn't introduced herself to Rahne. She had just went with the flow, because Rahne seemed so nice and already seemed to know all about her. She thought that was maybe her power. Nope. Quickly, he brought up the subject of Lewis. "If we got Lewis here, we could prob'ly start our own super-team Jaybird! Do ya' know how cool that would be?!" She said, enthusiastically. Then, Rahne suggested that they get inside and get her settled and everything, and perhaps meet one of her classmates. Sue nodded her head a bit. That would probably be a good idea. And another thing was that Jay had agreed. Looking to her brother, Sue smiled a bit and handed him her backpack. "You can carry that... Please?" She had been taught manners. She would use them.. Even if she wasn't asking. As she handed off the backpack, she also started further up the courtyard, looking back at Rahne and Jay to make sure they were coming. |

"A twin brother too?" Rahne asked with widened eyes as she glanced between Jay and then Sue and back again. Good Lord above, how many of them are there? And furthermore, if we ever find the mutant race in dire straights and reduced to pitifully low numbers, are we really gonna have to rely on Mrs. Guthrie to save mutantkind? "Either way, 'tis absolutely lovely t' formally make yuir acquaintance," Rahne tilted her head towards the girl and grinned. Yes, this was good. Exciting, too. New students, always an exciting prospect, to see what they were like, how they'd affect the classroom dynamic, how they'd get along with the others... Even though Rahne was certain that she had a bit more physical strength to her than Jay did, she was perfectly fine with allowing him to carry his sister's bags. She continued along, heading to the front doors of the mansion and opened them up. "I suppose then that here's yuir official welcome t' Xavier's," Rahne said as she waited for them to enter the foyer. "We're not a terribly big school, but I do like to say that the odds are good that we're the biggest school of our kind." She couldn't but let off a small chuckle at that. She left out, of course, that Xavier's was in all likelihood the only school of its kind. A wholly unique institution that as of yet had not been imitated. Temporarily branched off, she vaguely recalled (was it Boston? New Hampshire? Somewhere in New England proper), but never imitated. "First floor covers the cafeteria, assembly room, the kitchen, which is off-limits without supervision, I may add, administration's offices, and I'm sure at least one other thing I'm forgetting. But that's the important stuff, for sure." She gestured with a jerk of her right thumb towards the staircase. "We'll be headin' up, though, showin' ye to yuir room before settin' off on a tour proper. Sound good?" |

Footsteps echoed through the halls. Random students dodged to the side to avoid colliding with the teenager charging through. She was running... to the girls dorm. She was told that her sister was arriving soon. Looking for her was pointless when they would likely just miss each other. Especially since she didn't know if she was there yet. Looking for someone who might not be there was a nice waste of energy. Though burning some of her energy might have been a good idea. The smart thing to do would be where she was going to be, first. And that was one of the few places she could be absolutely certain about, so that was what she was going to do. Just. Waiting about was no fun. And soon after Mel had reached the girls dorms, she began to get antsy. Shifting from one foot to another, she finally stepped into her room [leaving the door open] and placed her books on her desk. Surely she had a few minutes. So. She fixed her hair that had gotten a bit messy in the course of the day, and shuffled around the room looking for a few things she'd gotten here and there to bring back for Sue that she'd been going to bring home for Thanksgiving. The others could wait, but it'd be nice for her younger sister to get a welcome present or two. She'd been mostly on her own when she came to the school; Paige was just leaving, and that left Sam. Sam was great and all, loving brother, heart in the right place, but he was Sam. It wasn't much different than if he'd lived in NYC too. Though that might have had something to do with the way he shoved his foot in his mouth every time they ran into each other. It couldn't be fun for him. Once Jay, and then Jeb, arrived, things seemed a lot more like home. Not to mention, Liz's arrival. It was nice they put them together, in the dorms, though maybe her older sis would have preferred to share with another girl closer to her age rather than her little sister. She wondered from time to time if at home, it was less like home without them. How things were going. But mostly she was focused on the here-and-now. And the here-and-now was waiting for Suzie Blue, while having no clue whether she'd arrived yet. |
