Name: Hepzibah bat El-Baz
Alias: N/A
Affiliation: The Starjammers

Personality:
Strong and defiant, she was raised by her mother and father to be proud and pious in her faith and creed, teachings that ultimately held little clout with her. Nomadic living out in the borderlands of Israel lead to an early life often full of fear and struggle. Hepzibah was only six when she learned to fire a gun. By age eight she knew how to make explosives. She was crafty, alert and aloof, though more or less she did not hold the same passion of faith that her father did. She sought only to survive, to make it another day. She’s a tactical mind, though by no stretch a cold one or a woman beyond compassion.

She finds friends easily, feels them out well enough, the product of her nomadic, wayward lifestyle early on. She has coped well with her mutation, reaching the conclusion that far more important things were at work in the world than one’s own appearance. When it comes to good and evil, the line she sees is blurred, believing that the quality of an action should be judged based on how it affects herself and those she is close to as opposed to how it may affect the world at large. Though in another life, perhaps at another time, she’d be opposed to the lifestyle she lives, but given the experiences she’s gone through and the atrocities she’s witnessed, she’s come out less than pristine, morals dirtied and sullied by the trespasses of God’s children.

Fierce, passionate, and wily, she is predictable to her friends, unpredictable to her enemies, and frightening to strangers. She holds herself indebted to those who help her, at least until she has returned the favor, and thusly she is fiercely loyal to those she sees as friends. She is however, jaded and cares very little for the woes of the world, her mind is not one-tracked, but she does put vengeance and retribution for crimes laid against her over most everything else.

Powers:
Hepzibah’s mutation began as a limited control of her own pheromones, able to enhance and dilute their potency to alter the moods emotions of others. As time wore on, however, the more animalistic traits of her X-Gene became more and more apparent. Her natural senses enhanced to superhuman levels, granting her uncanny sight, agility, strength, and dexterity, and by the end of a year she had sprouted a fine white fur, feline facial features, and retractable, cat-like claws on the tips of her fingers.

El-Baz has never fully gotten a reign in on her pheromone manipulating abilities, sometimes projecting them involuntarily at times of heightened stress, or being unable to reign them in in similar situations. People of strong mind and fortitude are often easily able to surpress or reject the effects, though those of weak will often times fall under her spell and charm.

History:
Born to El-Baz and his wife Efa, members of a roving band of Israeli nomads who kept to the borderlands near Jordan, Hepzibah bat El-Baz was a young girl placed in a terrible situation. By age ten, she had seen and taken part in more death and bloodshed than any child should ever experience, she had felt the pangs of a war ages old and generations deep. Within a few years, she was hurtled forwards in evolution, her abilities to manipulate her own pheromones soon followed by the mutation of her physical appearance. Her body changing, her parents grieved for their daughter, though the bond had never been stronger. When several of their group wanted their daughter gone, they stood fast and strong, vouching for her and keeping the others at bay.

As time wore on, her mutation grew further along, her appearance become more and more catlike. Her life was not without its share of teasing and insult, but as the girl aged, she earned her place and earned respect amongst most of those in the caravan. The girl’s skill in the day-to-day necessities of holding together the ramshackle caravan, her prowess in the skirmishes that would erupt with bandits and raiders, coupled with her newfound physical strength and capability began to endear her and make her a necessity, rather than a burden.

One night, their convoy came under swift and deadly attack, an ambush laid for them by bandits who had seen them approaching earlier in the day. Lives were lost, including those of her parents, and Hepzibah, among others, were taken prisoner. Before they arrived at wherever their destination was, however, she escaped, losing herself in a bloody rage and tearing through their camp and escaping into the desert.

Lost in lands she did not know, she wandered the desert for days before happening upon a small village. Nursed back to health by a family of farmers, she was kept secret for a small time, but once revealed, it was made clear she was not welcome to stay. On the verge of banishment and with nowhere left to go, her caretakers told her of a shipping line that smuggled people out of the country. Taking their advice and traveling south, she hopped aboard a freighter bound for Cape-Town in South Africa, using what little currency she had to pay her way.

Her ticket to a new life was not free-and-clear, however, and as they emerged from the Red Sea, their ship was attacked and boarded by a fleet of Shi’Ar vessels, members of the pseudo-criminal Tong which ran the country of Madripoor. Many were killed, and the strongest were kept for slaves, Hepzibah included. Packed by the dozen into the cramped quarters of the old, repurposed cruisers, it was here bat El-Baz met the mutant Ch’Od and a man named Raza, with whom she shared a small space, each one bound, but keeping eachother in high spirits despite the grim situation. Over the course of the journey, the three formed a pact, that they would escape together or not at all.

They were all three separated upon their arrival in Madripoor. It was here that Hepziba first met D’Ken, who took a shine to her…exotic qualities, and had her taken to his own private chambers. That evening, when she refused him consort, D’Ken had her brutalized and chained as a cruel joke, and for nearly three years he kept her as a pet, though her resolve nor her honor never faltered. With each attempt at escape or refusal to obey, she was beaten, starved and tortured. One day, however, she lost her grip, and after an attempt to kill her ‘master’, the Majestor had her sent low to the slave pens, where he ordered her broken.

Beaten severely and about to be ravaged by D’Ken’s minions, she was saved by a man named Christopher, who’s intervention sparked a riot in the slave pens. Using it as cover to escape, the two nearly made it, but were cornered by a large group of the raiders. Ready to go down fighting, the two were saved at the last minute by Ch’od and Raza, who had remembered their promise made three years ago. Impressed by the courage this man had shown, they rallied under him, and escaping Madripoor on a stolen attack ship, the four became not slaves, but free men. They became outlaws, though noble ones, and swore that they’d never rest until they’d brought down D’Ken himself.

Out in the open sea, they have been piloting their vessel, the Starjammer, for nine years, hoping against hope that each ship they overtake brings D’Ken’s world closer to crumbling.
