“No, seriously, it was like this!” Jac made a wide gesture of her hands and started to laugh loudly, tilting forward in her seat, almost putting her face into the veritable speedster feast spread out before her. Across the table from her was Brian, the siblings enjoying the comforts of one of the smaller cafes, seated outside under a red and white parasol that was ruffled by a slight summer’s breeze. The past few weeks had been taxing, well, really bloody stressful was a better way of putting it, but today was a slightly less busy day. Finally. “Anyway so we’re running around this bloody base, being chased by big silver metal dogs – or skinned badgers, I dunno – anyway, this big naked thing is just getting pounded by Cain and like, really, that guy has some sort of repressed urges, y’know?”

Sighing, Jac leant back in her seat, resting her arm over the back of it and picking up a chip from her plate. Or French fry…the speedster was no longer in America, so to speak, but there was still the whole issue of confusing people with what she said sometimes and more than ever down there, what with all the different nationalities floating around. Chewing on it, she turned her head from the brother and watched the people pass by in the street, some of them looking back at her. The girl wasn’t dressed in her uniform, but she still wore the badge of the Acolyte on the arm of her dress. That, and she was sort of famous for being the youngest Acolyte, with a reputation for taking on crazy, daredevil missions.

Two passing young men stared harder than others and the speedster turned her white blonde head away sharply, ignoring them as they passed. Despite the awkwardness of the other night, she loved Tommy – although one could say that was another thing she was known for; dating the grandson of Magneto. Put her in a weird position, really…Picking up another chip, she washed it down with some lemonade and grinned at Brian.

“Do you remember that weird geography teacher at school? The short tubby one who smelt of cats? Well I swear I saw her at the market the other day, seriously! Miss Millburn or something like that, was it?” Propping her chin in her hand, the elbow of which still rested on the back of her seat. “Do you think it was her? Or if there’s anyone else we know down here?”

Jac smiled, a lop sided sort of smile as the thought made her think back on their old, incredibly normal life. Things were far from normal these days, but she wouldn’t change it, despite everything. The Brotherhood had given her a purpose when she had needed one and she would stand by that.

Throwing his head back with a slight chuckle, he stared up at the canvas of the umbrella that provided ample shade fore them. It wasn't a blind stare, it truely was meaningful. When he stared up at the awning, he noticed nothing but a smooth surface, but upon true concentration he began to distinguish between the small threads and the large striped pattern on the umbrella. If anything, the umbrella could be related to the Brotherhood. Brian was nothing but a lowly member, and Jacqueline was one of the more prominent members. He wondered to himself if he could even consider Jacqueline a member anymore because of her high ranking, it would probably be more accurate to call her an Acolyte. She truely was the best of the best when it came to fighting for mutant rights on the side of the Brotherhood. However, membership fell by the wayside today. It was not about the Brotherhood, it was not about the Acolytes, it wasn't even about Magneto. Instead, Jacqueline and Brian were finally able to have some nice re-connection time.

Jacqueline fought bits of laughter as she continued the story, something that Brian had heard once before, but without all of the enjoyment. What would normally be a horror story was now a comedy. Though he wasn't overly moved by the story itself, as absurd as it was, Jacqueline's laugh was contagious, and that was being overly generous. The laugh made anything bad that Brian had on his mind melt away and simply made him laugh. Brian's laugh was near opposites of Jacqueline, her's was light and chipper, while his was a deep bellowing laugh.

Seriously though, a base filled with metallic dogs. That sounded crazy enough, but there was plenty more to add to the story. Some strange, and naked... that should not be held from the story, was getting beaten to a pulp by Cain. The bald man that stalked around Sanctuary that had a permanent chip on his shoulder. Brian guessed that was what all of the muscles were for... holding up the large chip. For once, Brian wished he would have been along on the mission. It would have made things much more believable. Not that he did not believe his sister when she told the story, but it just seemed unbelievable. "That story is definitely in my running for story of the century." Brian looked back down to his burger that was only about half eaten. He had been so invested in Jac's story, or more like invested on listening to Jacqueline's story, that he had neglected the food in front of him. Unlike Jac, he wasn't always hungry. He had plenty of time to get used to her eating habbits. Several years before, she showed up at his dormitory at University looking for him, with a major need to eat. Apparently, the need hadn't stopped either.

“Do you think it was her? Or if there’s anyone else we know down here?”

Taking several more bites of his burger as Jac shoveled chips into her mouth, the two were in synchronization. Listen when one was talking and eat when the other ate, it came naturally even though they hadn't spent much time together since he left for University. Though the past was dim, their future was bright together. The Brotherhood was not Brian's ideal choice for their connection, but this, right now, was something that he wouldn't trade for the world. When Jacqueline brought up the old teacher, Brian did not remember a face or a name so much as a shape. Her silhouette was something unforgettable. Her torso looked like some sort of soft serve ice cream cone the way her bra pinched her and formed rounded humps. Chuckling inside, Brian looked back to Jacqueline. "I couldn't forget her, but I remember her name being Miss Millberry. I'd take your guess over mine though, I liked to block out most memories of school. I can tell you that now that we're both out."

Jacqueline asked if there might be someone they knew down here, in Sanctuary. Up until this point, Brian thought it an impossibility for someone that they knew to be in Sanctuary let alone a mutant. "Y'know, there could be, but we won't know now that you didn't go up to her. Did you choke cause you were afraid she'd give you a make up test of the ones you failed?" Brian poked fun at Jacqueline, the sibling that was the more athletic one rather than being academically inclined. If the two were sitting on the same side of the table, he would have gave his sister a soft punch on the shoulder. "... we'll never know," Brian said with a soft sigh. The truely will never know.

The place was freak central. Seriously, there were mutants of every sort in the Sanctuary and even after a month Neil still couldn't help but ogle. There were so many of them and all in one place. It was mind blowing and, for someone like Neil who had grown up sheltered, it was a bit overwhelming. Even when she'd manifested and joined the ranks of the 'Evolved', she hadn't really considered the fact that she wasn't alone. Her world had been remarkably small back then and everything that fell beyond the boarders of her hometown also beyond her interest. She'd had no exposure to other mutants aside from her da. When her little brother mutated, her world had gotten a little bigger. Brenn's unfortunate ability gave Neil a good look at what a physical mutation could do to a person but even that didn't prepare Neil for the variety of Sanctuary. She couldn't get enough of it.

The outdoor cafe was a perfect place to sit and watch the fantastic and weird parade of Sanctuary's residents. Since personal vehicles weren't exactly in abundance in the bizarre mutant haven, Neil had gotten in the habit of sitting about people watching, her eager pale-gray eyes taking in the details of everyone that passed. Really, Coopers weren't the sort who did well with free time and Neil was no exception. She liked to have a purpose and since she'd come to Sanctuary she'd been completely bone idle. That's probably why she was absently gutting her iPod, a fair handful of tiny coils, springs, and wires spread out on the table in front of her. Neil had been sitting at the cafe for the better part of an hour, abusing the MP3 player and dunking her fries into her coffee mug. She was bored and that spelled doom for every small electronic device she could get her hands on.

"...n't be an idiot. That so was Spitfire."

Two guys were passing her table, their poor attempt at keeping their voices hushed drawing Neil's attention. They kept looking back over their shoulders, obviously excited, and she followed their gaze to an occupied table. There were two people, a girl with white blonde hair, laughing loudly and inhaling her food, and a guy, a bit more subdued and smiling... They could have been anyone and Neil would have shrugged it off if she hadn't recognized the name. Spitfire. Jacqueline something. She was one of Magneto's little super troopers. "Lucky," Neil muttered, a very uncharacteristic frown appearing on her face.

"It was not!"

"Yes, it was! Didn't you see the Acolyte badge? That was Spitfire and you're a moron. Stop looking!"

The two fanboys moved out of earshot. For a moment Neil just stared from her seat, her iPod and her fries forgotten. God, that girl was around her own age, certainly not older, and she was actually doing something, contributing. Neil didn't even realize that she was out of her seat until she was standing in front of their table, eyes glued to the badge on the girl's sleeve. Neil had been looking for a purpose, for a way to be useful since she'd found out that mechanics were far from in demand. She'd never really considered herself a political extremist, but why not? It wasn't like she didn't have the motivation to get involved with Magneto's mutant revolution. She had Brenn. He'd spent the last four years fighting tooth and nail just to exist... She could get her hands dirty to help him.

"Hullo," There was a hint of laughter in Neil's voice as she looked between the two mutants at the table, clearly interrupting but not really feeling all that bad about it. A lazy smile turned up the corner of her mouth as she stood there, messy curls, dusty blue jeans, and ratty Cons giving her a distinct 'backwoods' vibe. Her hands were buried deep in the pockets of her Stanford hoodie, mostly because Neil didn't trust herself not to reach out and touch the badge. She had enough sense to keep a step or two back, but she was practically humming with happiness.

"D'you two have a minute? I was hopin to get a word."

Snorting, Jac moved her cup of pop around a few times until she was sure she wouldn’t knock it over and nibbled on a piece of bread. “Oh if you think that was good, weird, whatever, you should have been here two years ago when Remy went crazy and started puking up hell maggots that burst into black - ” Jac stopped suddenly as she realised she had been talking about Gambit. Swallowing the mouthful of her food rapidly, she looked around, before back at her brother, giving him a slightly strained smile. “Really though, it was right weird. Weirder almost than the…well you missed that too. The whole Witch King invasion thingy,” Spitfire started to dissolve into laughter again, this time composing herself much quicker, going a little red in the face from the suppressed giggles. After all, she was in public…couldn’t choke to death on laughter out on the street.

The talk of their old teacher served a sharp contrast, the conversation jumping between old and new lives. The speedster had never been a bad student, but she had always been far too impatient for her own good, even before her powers had emerged, promptly explaining a lot. As Brian asked why she had not approached the woman, Jac shrugged her shoulders, looking down at her plate, arms folded on the table in a show of manners that would likely have gotten a good telling off from their mother.

“No…I just – everyone back home knows what I am, don’t they. I’ve been in newspapers and probably on the news,” she shifted on her seat. “Well, obviously it can’t bother her too much, the Brotherhood, else she wouldn’t be down here, but I’m just not that girl anymore…I suppose some part of me just wanted to keep the past in the past…Plus I don’t think she ever liked me after I threw a bottle of coke across the room at Daniel, only it came open and,” she spread her hand wide, as if to demonstrate the energetic fountain of liquid that had come out of the bottle that wintery November afternoon “only then because he threw a bag of flour from his cooking stuff back at me.”

Out of the corner of her eyes, the lads who had been watching were moving on. Thank God. It was one thing being ‘known’ but it was entirely another being stared at like she was some flipping Lady Gaga. They should get a life. About to comment to Brian about maybe doing a spot of training later, another figure approached the table, coming a lot closer than ogling distance, but not too close to make Jac jump up on her guard. Turning her head, she saw it was a young woman, probably a bit older than herself, though maybe not quite Brian’s age.

“Eh? Oh. Yeah! Sure,” Jac shook her head at herself and gestured to one of the free seats. While the girl found being stared at incredibly off-putting, being approached by someone who just wanted to talk was a bit different. Aside from the crowd of six year olds who mobbed her every single time she was in the town square when they were being walked home from school. The lovely little brats had discovered she always had jelly beans or some other sweet in her pockets and they were utterly abusing that fact.

Picking her cup up, the blonde took a sip and set it back down, watching the girl carefully for a moment. Jac couldn’t say that she had seen her before so assumed she was relatively new. “Can we get you anything? Drink? Food? This place does an amazing toasted sandwich,” she jerked her thumb over her shoulder at the café. Offer made, the speedster nibbled on some of the tasty morsels laid out on her platter before getting down to business. The Acolyte badge meant a lot more than she was just a pedigree war dog for Magneto, after all.

“Anyway, what can we help you with? Are you new to Sanctuary?”

Jacqueline paused. That was what initially grabbed Brian to a higher degree of interest. Retracing the words in his mind he came across the only thing they were talking about before. The man named Remy. He was the mutant who defected from Brotherhood shortly after Brian had reconnected with his sister. Brian's grin faded as he looked at his sister with a more intent gaze. His eyes still smiled slightly with a small glimmer that that was the clear indicator that he was not upset. It was a feature that everyone had, and anyone who was not disabled socially was able to interpret it.

Remy. Brian wondered why he had such a hold on Jacqueline. As she eventually picked herself back up into the conversation and continued on, Brian still hadn't forgotten her trip up at his name. The two must've had some sort of emotional connection that developed over his time with the Brotherhood. Knowing this was a brighter topic, he knew that she had made connections to people outside of the Brotherhood. Though he did not know Remy, if he ever met Remy he would have to thank him for being a small light in Jacqueline's life.

“No…I just – everyone back home knows what I am, don’t they."

Brian sighed and the last bit of amusement faded from his eyes. Jacqueline didn't want to feel like this, like everyone knew who she was more from infamy than everything else. At least, that was how Brian interpreted it. Anyways, Brian would stand by Jacqueline, what ever her choices were. Their parents had fallen to the side, not by their own accord, but because of the two's mutation which had furthered them from their human parents. The blonde mutant often wondered where their parents were, if they sat in front of the television when Jacqueline's face was posted along with other more vicious members of the Brotherhood. It would hurt them... to see that. What the two had become.

"They might, that's how I found you. I wish I could say it different. So that... it might feel better, but I've never been so great with words." Brian's words were true even though there were many people around the outside patio-style seating. Soon though, a wave of strange energies and feelings flooded Brian's eyes. His brow's furrowed not in anger or in confusion, but in strength. "There isn't anything wrong with the way you are. There might be other ways to fight for what we both want, but this is our current path and I'll hang with you till the end." The word's were full of strength and false hope, something that Brian wished he could wish into actualism.

Luckily enough, Jacqueline was able to end the downward spiraling conversation with a bit of humor. She was always the one that was able to turn up the mood of conversation or even a room full of people. Whether intentional or not, she was good at it. Brian roughly laughed as a smile burst out. The stories still hadn't stopped.

"D'you two have a minute? I was hopin to get a word."

Brian looked over to Jacqueline, while she may be okay with the new publicity that she recieved by being a Acolyte, he was not so comfortable with it. As she pointed to a free chair he waved across it as if making it seem more welcoming. He hadn't said anything as he felt that the higher ranking Brotherhood Member should be the one addressing the public. Looking over to the girl she didn't appear confrontational, but she still kept a unique perplexed interest of his. If it was someone who was talking to the two because she had a problem with her apartment, she should probably look to a different department though Brian would be happy to help in any way that he could. No matter Brian's presumptions, the woman's motives were still mysterious.
