September 17th 1:00am Ojore had wasted no time with trivialities since arriving in New York; he'd spent the entire day after he touched down setting up shop as it were and making sure the US branch of his company was running smoothly. Today was about the other side of the coin; it was about business but not anything legal. Today he was meeting with several of his contacts to see what information they had on the Brotherhood; he needed all he could get if he was to set up any type of communication with them. At this point it was common knowledge that they still existed, but finding them was nearly impossible. Earlier he'd spoken with a man who, for a price, enlightened him about a potential place for him to get his foot in the door, as it were. An information exchange was held at sporadic times in random locations where any and all things were sold to the highest bidder; very cloak and dagger. It was fairly difficult to find, as whoever headed the sordid get together had chosen the location perfectly. He found it though and after getting in, he looked around for the contact he'd been told to seek. A man in attendance was supposed to be a mutant and an agent of sorts for Magneto and the Brotherhood; if Moses could find him, things would go into motion very quickly he hoped. He looked around for a good half hour at least, and while no one stood out physically as a mutant, but he noticed a man making small gestures with his hand, and people did what he said after that. Some type of telepathic persuasion abilities? It didn't matter what all he could do, it just mattered that he was the man he was looking for. After getting him off to the side, away from the obvious prying eyes and ears; they got right down to business. Ojore explained what he wanted and what he could offer, and the man who introduced himself as Sway liked what he heard. He gave Ojore a meeting time and place and left; shortly after, Ojore made himself scarce. After a short trip home to slip his battle uniform on under his regular clothes, he made his way to the meeting place and waited. The abandoned warehouse was empty except for him, although he had a feeling he wouldn't be kept waiting too long; punctuality was a respected commodity and if he was meeting who he thought he was, there was a great deal of respect there indeed. |

“I hope you realize,” said a voice that bounced off the walls, making it hard to place, “That I don't meet with any person who requests a meeting. While I regard contact from any mutant as relatively important, I am too busy to meet with everyone. They are lucky to see an Acolyte.” The Master of Magnetism stepped out of the shadows behind a stack of pallets and into the dim light the full moon cast through the window. It only showed the silhouette, but anyone who had watched the news or seen a picture of the man knew the carry of the shoulders or the outline of that helm. It was either Magneto himself or someone who did a remarkable job of dressing and talking like him – a remarkable feat. “However, when I was told that you were requesting my presence, I couldn't resist the opportunity to come myself.” Silence fell as Erik watched the man from where he stood in the moonlight – the fact that he allowed himself to be such a visible target showed just how confident he was in his own abilities as a mutant. He could count on one hand the people on the planet that he actual considered formidable based on the brute strength of mutant power. “I would hate for you not to realize the honor you've been showed by having a chance to meet with me in person and what that means.” Magneto was always on the lookout for new mutants to join his cause, however he could not take the time to play recruitment agent. There was a remarkably efficient system to regulate and see too all interested parties wishing to join the Brotherhood – to make sure none slipped between the cracks. However, this man represented more than just another soldier for the cause... he represented resources for Sanctuary, a useful powerset, and a wealth of information and contacts. Like Black Tom, he was more than a mutant... he was an asset. He'd actually smiled when his informant had told him who wanted to talk to him; unsure of the man's true allegiances however, he had taken serious precautions, “What can I do for you, Mr. Musa?” |

He was right in assuming he wouldn't be kept waiting long, and when a voice familiar only from hearing it so much on televised networks spoke, a small, barely visible smile form on Ojore's face. Magneto himself had come to greet him as requested, and the older mutant let it be made known that his presence wasn't an every day occurrence. He understood that fact all too well, and while he didn't run an international mutant army, he did run two international businesses and a fairly large Private Military Corporation; the similarities were there. "First and foremost let me tell you that few people impress me, and even fewer ever earn my respect. In all truthfulness you are one of the few men alive who has done both." With his hands clasped behind his back, he nodded in the direction of the helmed man shrouded in shadow. "Also, I understand full well that a meeting with the Master of Magnetism is a great honor indeed; and I thank you for meeting me yourself." He paused and scratched his chin while subtly letting his senses scour the surrounding area before speaking again. No movement, no life aside from Magneto and himself; he hadn't even brought a security detail....he respected that. "As for the question of what you can do for me, I think a better question would be, what can we do for one another? All I ask from you is that you allow me the opportunity to join the ranks of the Brotherhood; I understand, respect, and applaud you for what you have done and will continue to do...I also want to be apart of that." It was funny how such an ordinary looking man could possess so much power; in more ways than one. The same could be said about him he figured, but to be in the same room with someone he identified so closely with and respected so much...he never thought he'd feel that. "And if you do that small favor for me, you have my loyalty, abilities, and all the resources at my disposal, become available to you as well. My private security force, as well as every weapon and device I've invented..at your beck and call." That had to sound like a good deal to Magneto, in fact it was a good deal for anyone. Membership into their group, and the new member brought with him a private army and some of the most sought after technology in the world. |

“Why?” Erik did not move an inch as he stared at the man who had summoned him. His stance did not change... no shifting of feet... no tilt of the head one way or the other. Erik Lehnsherr was stone still as he listened to the man speak. The young men and women who joined the ranks of the Brotherhood often had very little in the world apart from a few material possessions and the barest of monetary sums. Most joined because they had no better offer; many came to realize what the Brotherhood really stood for and adopted their way of thinking and the passion to see their people dominate. However, Magneto was not foolish enough to think that many joined with a cultivated passion for his cause – they were merely desperate. People like the man before him, however, were a different matter entirely, and since the day he had discovered the betrayal of Gambit, he had taken to questioning them much more thoroughly. Erik had not been a trusting man before the day he destroyed Murderworld – after that betrayal, he did not fully trust anyone at all. Anyone. “Your offer is lucrative, but as the old saying goes, 'nothing in life is free'.” His hands clasped behind his back, the Master of Magnetism took several steps forward, his boots thudding lightly against the concrete floor of the warehouse as he approached Musa. “You have enough money to buy a home of your own choosing. Cars, destinations, women... they can all be yours, and yet you decide to shackle yourself to the Brotherhood. I am sure you can understand my suspicion, so I ask again. Why do you want to join our cause?” He stopped close enough for Musa to make out his face despite the shadows cast by his helmet in the dim light. His eyes almost seemed to capture that little bit of light and reflect it in a way a cat's would, yet there was nothing feral or feline in that stare. There was only ice. Cold steel. |

If he'd offered any other person on the planet, what he'd just offered Magneto; they would have jumped at the opportunity and thanked him from the bottom of their heart. This is where Magneto differed from everybody else though; he showed no visible change in stance, his heartbeat and other vitals remained calm.....either he was never interested in anything, or he had such a control over his emotions that he didn't allow himself to get interested or excited. It was probably the second, as he himself was capable of a similar poker face; it had served him well when staring down business competitors that were soon taken off the playing field and other things of that nature. "Why?" The first word from the mans mouth wasn't a welcome to the group, or high expectations from the newest member, but why; questioning any number of things. That he would of course answer if and when he elaborated a bit. The man kept talking, moving forward, talking, moving forward; finally he stopped only a few feet from Ojore. His facial features were visible and at that point Ojore realized that he was; it was difficult to put in words. He feared no man, and had feared nothing since he survived that lion attack in his youth; no, this was different. Maybe intimidated fit better; Magneto was obviously devoted to his own cause and anyone with such devotion and control was unpredictable. That's what it was, he was wary of him; he always liked knowing he was in control, that if he couldn't predict the outcome of something, he could manipulate it. That obviously wasn't the case with Erik, and that was troubling to him. "While that saying has proven true time and time again over the course of history, I, and I'm sure you as well, have come to the realization that while nothing in life is free, things can be gotten at severely reduced price....if....you know where to look." He didn't comment on his financial situation that was all true, as there was no point. "The reason I want to join the Brotherhood is several fold, but I won't bore you with the details. The long and short of it is simply this. The Brotherhood fights for a cause that for a long time I was blind too, as all of my focus and attention was inward. Now that I'm in a position to see the world for what it is around me, I feel that it is a cause worth getting behind." Holding his hands out wide, he allowed a small smile to creep onto his face. "Mutant rights, mutant freedom....mutant reign given enough time. I want to be a part of the group that brings about that monumental change in the way this planet works." |

Erik studied the man as the moments after he'd answered his question dragged on, weighing his every word – his town, the arrangement... all of it. As a leader who crafted everything he said in such a way as to never be caught in a lie, the Master of Magnetism put a lot of stock in what people said and analyzed every sentence looking for hidden meaning or loopholes. Coming across someone didn't happen often anymore – it seemed as if his reputation scared away all but the boldest of subversive and manipulative people. He was not invulnerable, however; Gambit was proof of that. “I once told one of my Acolytes the full extent and scope of my vision for this world and how to seize control of it. Our military might is the one that scares the humans the most... the obvious means we use to subvert homo sapien influence on Earth. However, that is merely a portion of what is to come. I am in need of not only those that can wield destructive forces and provide me with weaponry – both necessary, I assure you – but I am also on the lookout for individuals who can cut humanity off at the knees through economic means.” His eyes scanned the warehouse occasionally, alert for any sign that this could be a trap; all that was needed to get him out of here was a simple code word. Reaper was standing by as they spoke. “You realize that trust will take a bit of time to build up. I have been offered such things in the past that have turned out to be mistakes, and I do not wish to put my people at risk for something that seems 'too good to be true.' How would you feel about visiting Sanctuary for a week or so... getting a tour of our city and see exactly how much we have accomplished?” That would also give his Network enough time to confirm whether he was lying or not. “You would be responsible for fighting on both fronts I mentioned. Is that something you feel you are able to handle?” |

An explanation was what Magneto wanted, and an explanation was what he got. Moses wanted to assume that it was enough for him, but Erik was a closed book with a pad lock and invisible ink; meaning that as hard as he tried, reading him was impossible. Even with his enhanced senses that were delicate enough to allow him to count the number of heartbeats per minute, he could gather nothing aside from him being....calm and collected. When he spoke again, Ojore kept silent and listened; he wanted to make sure nothing was lost in translation. He cleared his throat when the white haired mutant asked his question and slightly cocked his head in thought. "Of course any war that is successfully waged is done so on multiple fronts; and oftentimes pure shows of might need accompaniment to make them successful. He'd been there, been apart of operations like that enough times to know his words were true, and Erik did as well. His hands once again found themselves clasped behind his back as he took in the mutant standing opposite him. "Trust is a delicate thing, and men like us don't get as far as we have if we trusted everyone unconditionally. And I would be honored to accept your offer." The final question he'd asked was not the hardest to answer, but the hardest to properly phrase. Fighting was what he did, whether it was with his weapons, his powers, his mind...even in a courtroom. He'd been fighting since he was young, and he knew in his heart of hearts that he'd be fighting until he got old and decrepit. "That is something I'd feel right at home doing. I assume your information gatherers are talented enough to read between the lines of my past and see the things I've done. I assure you that this will be.......a change of venue." He'd done things like that for God knows how long, so the only difference would be the locations and the targets; he could deal with that. |

Without a word, Erik reached into a pocket and pulled out a card caught between a gloved index and middle finger. On it was a simple name and a set of coordinates – the person on that card knew the risks of being a contact man for the Brotherhood and was rewarded handsomely for said risks. He reached stretched out the arm to offer the slip to Ojore, “I assume you will require time to get your affairs in order, but when you are ready, visit the man at these coordinates and he will be able to direct you to Sanctuary. I will warn you that due to the nature of Sanctuary's reception to the outside world, you will have to undergo decontamination. It is an appropriate search followed by an interview by one of our psychics who will scan the surface of your brain for any detection of falsehood. You do not need to worry about him gleaning too much... all of our border interrogators are watched closely by their supervisor and any mishandling of powers during duty hours is dealt with.” Once the proffered card was taken, Magneto let his arm drop back by his side, “The decontamination process is a necessary step especially for Brotherhooders, therefore it is not optional. If you do not wish it, then I wish you good luck wherever you go. Once processed, we will begin the appropriate paperwork to make joining into the Brotherhood official. You will report and follow the orders of your superiors as must all Brothers, but you will be given a special clearance and privileges due to your unique situation and will be reporting directly to the Acolytes. I would recommend taking up residence among us and retaining your properties on the surface... you will likely be dividing your time equally between Sanctuary and the surface.” A moment of silence passed as what Magneto had to say was completed. Finally he spoke up once more, “I hope you accept the terms of our agreement, Mr. Musa. We could both benefit from our mutual interest. Realize that an agreement with the Brotherhood is not easily broken, and we are not in the habit of being abandoned by those who have made promises to us.” |

He took the card Magneto handed to him without a word or second glance, then placed it in his breast pocket until he could memorize it later. Erik quickly explained that he understood the time it would take for Ojore to set things up in such a way that he could continue to run his business, while also making his way to Sanctuary, and then went on to explain the rules, regulations and procedures of admittance. He was fine with all of them really because he had nothing to hide, and even if one were to delve a bit too deep into his mind, he wouldn't like what he found. "I've made several preparations that will allow my companies to continue to run smoothly despite any minor hiccups, and I completely understand the security precautions. I just hope your psychic doesn't view any problem areas of my mind....the experience might be a bit....traumatic if he hasn't seen the many horrors of war and profiteering. It was a general concern because he'd seen men broken from being apart of things like that, and if someone were to view his mind like an open book, the same could happen to them. Cracking his neck, he looked upward, then back to the figure standing there; he was so close he could taste it. He literally stood on the precipice and all that was needed was one little step to become a member of the Brotherhood.....he couldn't wait. "The terms of the agreement are accepted on my part, and I assure you, while I am many things, an oath-breaker is not one of them. You have my loyalty." Feeling that their meeting was adjourned, he gave a courteous nod and began to walk backwards. "It was a pleasure meeting you, and I look forward to working with you.....I'll see you soon." He knew that as soon as he turned around, Magneto would be gone; he didn't have that luxury though, so he walked to his car and drove back to his penthouse....he had work to do. [END] |
