Feline Form/ Feline Traits
|
Time of Day: September 6th, 9:30AM Place in Timeline: Day before the Phoenix Flight leaves for Utopia. Over the past few days Robert spent hours at a time as a cat. Being a cat right now was far simpler. A cat had no need to worry about lost possessions or nightmares or trivial human feelings. After the first night in the city Robert knew he could only sleep in cat form. It was easier, but the thought of remaining a cat forever became too tempting the longer he stayed as one so, he had to confront those feelings of loss. It wasn’t fair that he had a means of temporary escape. However, fairness wasn’t why he chose to shift back to human-form. There were just too many human things he would miss out on; none which immediately came to mind. Right now, though, Robert let the cat take control. In the hallway outside his door sat an empty box. Curious to what was inside the cat-boy unpacked it before going in his suite. For some reason the cat loved boxes so when it was empty he shifted forms and jumped inside the empty box of what Anne Lee referred to as a ‘care package’ in the letter which accompanied it. He barely pawed through the articles of clothing, comic books (select issues of the DC relaunch), a new cell phone, a bag of M&M’s, and the other things Anne Lee thought important. All the things his sister sent sat outside the box in a neat pile. Later he’ll read her letter more thoroughly and take care of his new belongings. Anne Lee remained mostly silent about what happen at the school. To anyone, including her brother, it must have been a surprise. Usually she’d pester for answers to the thousands of questions running through her head. The reason: her brother requested her not to worry. He even convinced her to stay at college. Robert felt wrong by making her stay away. She too lost friends, classmates, and teachers. Getting the package brought sadness with it. No matter what he knew it was best for his sister to stay away until the events were no longer confusing to him. What was he going to say to her when she asked for specifics? How much would she want to hear about the horror of his escape- of what occurred on the grounds... Would she let him finish speaking before saying 'no more'? The cat shifter let out a yawn. Being a cat was simple but it was also an act of cowardice. By nightfall Anne Lee would call his new cell phone. If no one answered then she would be on the next flight back to the city. He couldn’t run forever. |

It hadn't yet been a week since their world had been turned on its head. Everyone coped with it differently. Some tried to return their lives to a semblence of normalcy, turning their minds from the horror of what happened. Some turned to their loved ones for comfort. Others turned everyone away, to lick their wounds in solitude. Not so long ago, Kel would have been one of the ones that would have sought solace in solitude, slowly working past the lastest trauma in his life. For the first time he could remember, he leaned against someone else - and supported him as well as he could in return. It was strange, unexpected, and all too necessary for him. He could barely cope with what had happened as it was. Alone? Unlikely. It made the upcoming trip to Utopia all the more disquieting. Still, he couldn't allow himself to curl up for the next month or so, until there were no more nightmares, no more dead children in his sleep. There were things he had to do, and even as he was he was needed. I could be useful here, too, he thought, but that wasn't really true. He couldn't go near the wreckage of the place he'd lived since he was fifteen, where he'd grown up and where he'd nearly died trying desperately to save his friends. Maybe in time. Not now, not so soon after it all. The days had all melted together and his time was nearly up in the city. After the desperate battle for survival he'd been unable to check on everyone properly. For days he hadn't really left Derek's suite. Now- he had someone to see. Kimmy had gone with the Guthries, he couldn't see her. His young friend Robert however, was still at Warren's building. Some friend he would be if he didn't check on him at least once before going off to Utopia. "Robbie?" he called out while knocking. Though he often used his friend's codename and the nickname Robert's sister had come up for him, now just didn't seem like the time. After a moment he tried the door and it opened. His friend was nowhere to be found, though there was an empty box in the middle of the room, with its former contents sitting beside it. A thought occurred to him, and he walked over to the box. Surely enough, there was a little cat inside it. "All those times I wondered what to get you, I never thought a box would be the ideal gift," he said with a small smile. |
