Date September 26th, Afternoon A few hours after the final battles with the Sentinels ---------------------------------------- It had taken a little bit of asking around, but two multiples had tracked down not only what had happened to Guido, but where he’d been taken. Mount Sinai, one of the top heart hospitals in the country, and that was exactly where they were headed right now. How could something like this have happened? It was pretty well known that Guido was in constant pain because of his powers, but Jamie had no idea that there was any risk of something like this. As they hurried along toward the hospital, the multiples worried together in silent unison. Losing a multiple had been hard on Jamie. He’d almost sooner lose his left hand. But to lose Alix or Guido? That would be like losing half of his heart. And never mind about Havok. That would be something he’d have to try to come to grips with some other time. “Guido Carosella,” the multiples said in unison to the startled and confused nurse at the front desk. She looked up his name and said “303 B. Family only.” Jamie’s dupes nodded. “I’m family,” one said. He was. And if they didn’t like it, they could bite him. When he got to the room he didn’t hesitate to step in. Guido was on a bed with oxygen on his mouth and tubes running all over his body. He looked so…feeble lying there. He looked so…weak. “Hey buddy,” one multiple said softly as he came over to stand by the bed. The other multiple stepped up on the other side. “You’re gonna make it. Hang in there.” The multiples stood awhile longer by his side, and then pulled up some chairs. They weren't going anywhere...and this might be a long haul from what it looked like. It was then that Jamie's dupe noticed that there was someone else in the room. Turning his head toward Jet, he could see the grieved and worried lines in her face, and he knew how she felt. She appeared worse off than Guido in some ways. He came over by her side where she was sitting in the chair next to the bed and put a hand on her shoulder. "Have you heard anything?" |

Jet refused to leave Guido’s side since he had fallen. She went with him to the hospital, signed for the necessary papers, sat near or with him constantly, and spoke to the doctors. One of the times when she wasn’t right next to Guido was when the blonde was told about Alex. When she was told about that she sat against the wall next to the door that lead into the Strong Guy’s room and cried for several minutes. After that short time she dried her eyes, composed herself, and buried that emotion down. She wasn’t going to tell Guido just yet. The Silverlight was sitting in a chair near Guido worried, and upset, on top of other emotions she couldn’t even begin to list when Jamie walked in. She looked up at Jamie and tried to do the motion for him to keep it down so Guido could rest, but the dupes were already speaking softly to him. The Multiple Man approached her and put a hand on her shoulder and asked if she had heard anything. “It took some strong arming. Not to mention a flash of the X-Factor badge, and hounding the doctors more aggressively than a honey badger but, yes. They told me the first night is the night with the highest risk. They’re going to monitor him closely.” Jet cleared her throat as quietly as she could before she continued, “And right now his signs are steady, but weak.” She scratched the side of her eye and swallowed the lump forming in her throat. “Pretty much at this point it could go fine, or south in the span of a few hours. They already tried to tell me that classic doctor speech ‘there’s no more you can do for him other than get some rest’. But of course I refused.” She glanced over at the dupes and Guido before looking back at Jamie. “Did you hear about-.” She could feel her throat about to betray her speech. She cleared her throat again and talked even lower. Barely a whisper, “Alex?” |

Seeing the level of grief in Jet’s eyes stabbed at the multiple’s heart, and for a moment he worried for his best friend lying in the hospital bed more than he had worried about anyone or really anything… ever. For the first time ever he actually worried about Guido’s future. He’d never even seen the guy get hurt doing anything. And now…the multiple looked over at his friend lying there motionless on the bed with the slow but steady beeping of the EKG machine near his left hand side. Now? To hear that there was still a chance that something could go south for Guido at the drop of a hat was pretty devastating for him. The multiple took in a slow and shaky breath and exhaled slowly. He could feel the stress building up on him and he wasn’t really sure he could handle it. “I heard about Alex,” he said with a nod. “Sort of. I mean, I heard enough to know…” He’d lost Alex. He might lose Guido. He’d lost a multiple. And Alix was pushing herself to the brink and beyond. The multiple closest to her pulled her off her feet and into a big hug. “It’s going to be all right,” he said to her. The other multiple hugged her back, making a Jet sandwich. “Guido is going to be all right,” he said. “We’re going to get through this.” |

Jet nodded to Jamie as he told her about what he knew about Alex. Before she knew it, she was being hugged by two Jamie’s. They were offering words of comfort as she tried to return the hugs. She sighed, as if she had been crying and was trying to calm down. “Thanks Jamie.” She patted one of the dupes on the back gently and continued, “I already told Guido earlier that he was not allowed to die on us.” She separated from both Jamie’s and stood up to pace the room, something she had been doing off and on for the past few hours. She folded her arms as she walked back and forth. The blonde tried to keep her voice low so Guido wouldn’t stir, “Jamie…?” She paced, breathed, and spoke, all while looking between Guido and whichever Jamie she thought was Prime. “How’d this happened? I’ve seen him take hits that would have crushed me every day of the week and twice on Sundays.” She stopped for a moment from her slow pacing to and rubbed the bridge of her nose. Jet never even knew the regular physical pain Guido suffered through. He kept it all so secret from them all. “I know those sentinels were tough… but… The doctors are saying he suffered, like… a heart attack. How’d his heart get to be…” The blonde sighed and lowered her hand. Looking at the dupes, she spoke, “Could you… be one person, for a bit? No offense to the dupes but I’m getting a headache tryin to figure out which of you is Jamie Prime.” |

"Get your hands off me," Alex said, to the nurse who was trying to assist him. "I'm fine. Really, don't I look fine?" The truth was, he did not look fine. Alex Summers was pretty much the color of a sheet of notebook paper, except for the dark circles around his blood shot eyes. There was definite bruising from the battle and his plummet from the sky. Rogue's arms had been metal when she caught him, so he was moving stiffly, and there was singeing at the edges of not only his dusty black uniform, but in his blond hair. He was a mess, and he was exhausted. But, he was alive, and the doctors who had looked him over proclaimed that there was nothing wrong with him that some rest and some mild painkillers wouldn't fix, except for some severe dehydration, which was why he was currently lugging around a water bottle the size of a fish tank. They tried to give him saline intravenously, but Alex was not the greatest around needles, and given the nature of his deeds today, he had managed to sweet talk the physicians into allowing him to take his fluids the old fashioned way. Scott had found him where he'd fallen, where he was still slumped in Rogue's arms. Jean and Lorna had found him. He was lost in the darkness, certain it was over, certain he had nothing more to give. Then, they had found him, and he opened his eyes, asking if it had been enough, if everyone was alright. He hadn't found out about Guido until he was at the hospital, and as soon as he'd been released, he'd headed up to his rooms to see his teammate, to check on his friend. It would be a lot easier though if the nurses would stop pawing at him and trying to get him to sit down and rest. Finally, though, he made it, and Alex stumbled into Guido's room to see Jet and Jamie embracing tearfully, and his heart sank. "Oh, God..." he said, never once considering that their concerns were for him, because he had no idea anyone thought he was dead. "What's wrong? Is he ....?" |

“I am,” the multiples said in unison to the question of which one of them was Jamie Prime. There was a pause, and then they both pointed at each other. “He is.” Somewhere deep down this was sort of a small cause of irritation for Jamie. In some ways his multiples were different than he was, but in many ways they were the same. He wanted to be able to send them places as true ambassadors of Jamie Prime, and not be treated like cardboard cutouts. The two multiples hung their heads. “Neither of us are,” one confessed. “Jamie is working at the infirmary with Alix on all the people who were injured during the fight. He insisted on being there to help…and because Alix is pushing herself too far right now.” Still, one multiple did have the power to absorb the other. He did exactly that, and then there was only one. He wanted to tell Jet that in more ways than not he was exactly like Jamie Prime. He wanted to explain that he carried everything back to Prime and that in the end it was all the same. He wanted to remind her that few people could tell the difference. He said nothing. “I…don’t know,” the multiple said as he looked at Guido again. “We talk all the time and he never said anything about heart problems. I know he really didn’t let on how much pain he was in most of the time. I’d catch him sometimes, when nobody was looking…sort of grimacing.” He licked dry lips and thought about it. “But…his powers directly affect his muscles,” he said thoughtfully. “And the heart is just a muscle…” Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about Alex, and Jet’s pacing was starting to drive him crazy. He’d gotten up and tried to follow her for a few paces, but in the end he’d just grabbed her again and made her look at him. A tear broke free and slipped down his cheek as he looked at her without saying a word. Someone suddenly came in and asked if Guido was all right. The multiple just answered over his shoulder without really looking. “He’s hanging on,” he said with a sidelong glance. Besides, it was just Alex. He froze, eyes widening as if he’d just seen a ghost. Slowly turning his head, the multiple looked at Alex without comprehension for a moment and then he let go of Jet and charged, sweeping Alex up in an embrace that popped off another dupe and the two of them started talking very fast, very loud and at the same time. “How are you-” “You look like crap.” “-can’t trust anything you hear-“ “-of your death were greatly exaggerated-” “-from the trial-” “-big explosion-” With a little too much exuberance they pulled on him, patted him on the back and put up a wall of noise that was impossible to penetrate. They honestly couldn’t help it. Alex was alive! He would be able to fix everything. |

Jet raised her eyebrow at the dupes when they both replied that they were Jamie Prime. Then they confessed that neither of them were Jamie and that he was with Alix, who was pushing herself too hard. Jet then sighed shook her head and thought, ”Damnit, Alix… stop pushing yourself… I can’t bear to lose you too.” The multiple formed to one man, and said nothing. Until he continued about Guido. That was when Jamie mentioned that Guido suffers through some amount of pain while using his power; it made the blonde stop in her tracks. “What?” She paused, “He’s in pain… most of the time?” The more he spoke the less better she was feeling. She started pacing the room once again. He stopped her pacing and made him look at him. Jamie had started to cry but before she could tell him to not cry because they needed to be strong for Guido someone had entered the room. Jet looked passed Jamie to see the man who asked about Guido. Jamie rushed the answer but the blonde was left speechless as to who was standing in the room with them. Instantly Jamie ran over and hugged him. Her jaw dropped and her eyes welded with tears. The Multiple Men bombarded Alex with a slew of words that meshed together. The X-Factorite walked slowly over to the small group and lightly shoved the two dupes away. She stared at Alex face to face, he looked terrible. But he was really there… really standing there. So, she had to be sure. “Alex…” She rushed forward for a tight hug. Not thinking how weakened he was. She whispered quietly and trying desperately not to cry, “You’re alive.” Just when she had finished crying about him dying, she was crying again about him living. At least the tears were happier than before. After a few moments, she separated from him and wiped her tears. Then spoke, “Alex Summers… Are you done dying yet? Jesus I would say I know how you feel but you’ve trumped me in the number of deaths.” She went in for a more happy less tear-filled hug and said, “No more dying. Hear me?” The moment of shock had passed, she had the few moments of happiness that their Bossman had lived where she was told otherwise. Then the moment of remembering came back. Remembering that Guido was still in the hospital. That he was hurt, that he suffered some sort of heart attack, and that he was ‘mostly’ in pain due to his powers. Jet cleared her throat and rubbed her hand on Alex’s shoulder. “He’s weak, but stable. Doctors told me that he could be better or worse. It’s all a waiting game at this point.” She looked back at the Strong Guy asleep in his bed, with his tubes, “He’s just been… sleeping.” |

He was swamped instantly by a pair of Jamies and tearful Jet, and from their garbled exuberance, Alex, at last, realized that someone somewhere had given his friends the idea that he had been killed. "I'm ok, I'm ok, I promise. It was just radiation, I promise, I can handle radiation. It was a lot of it, yeah, and Shield put me through a hassle to make sure I was able to process it, so that's what took so long. But, I'm ok... I promise, guys. In need of sleep, fluids and about eight bottles of pain killers." He smirked, slightly, "All the times that I've died, guys, you expect me to be killed by a robot after dinner mint?" he shrugged, referring to the pastel coloring of the Nimrod. "I had to return to the court, besides," Alex admitted, "Seems like in all the commotion, the judges decided that I'd proven myself. So... if you guys'll still have me, I'm sort of released on my own recognizances, whatever that exactly means." He looked down at Guido, "So, I guess I can sit with you guys until the big guy wakes up." He rested his warm hand on Guido's enormous arm, his natural feverish heat felt through the slick black of his gloves, "I was told that Jonny gave him a jump start? Wow, I didn't know he could do that. The doctor told me it was lucky for Guido, that he likely made it because of that. He'll be ok, he has to be." Looking at the others, he said, "No tears, ok? No more. We're all together now, we'll all be together, and everything is going to be ok. It has to be, right? We've had enough of it not being ok." |

JP Jamie/Guido Having Alex there made an unbelievable difference. Before long the multiples and Jet were crowding around Alex, asking questions completely fawning over his presence. He looked like hell warmed over, but he was alive, and even sort of smiling…through that pasty white battered face of his. Nonchalantly he shrugged off their concerns. “Just a little radiation?” The multiple scoffed in disbelief. “I’d be a Hot Pocket right now!” “Don’t flatter yourself,” said the other one. The news that he’d been released by the court was even better. This was great. Things were almost back to normal. The steady beeping of the heart monitor at Guido’s side cut into the moment with a dose of sober reality. Almost normal. “Yeah,” one of the multiples said looking down at his immobile friend. “Jon showed up just in time. I guess Guido was…” He found it hard to say. “…well he was gone for more than a minute.” Behind the goggles, Guido’s eyes twitched a little. Slowly he opened his eyes just a crack. Through dry cracked lips he tried to speak, finding it took a little more strength than he had. “Wanna….keep it…down?” He said breathlessly. “This is…a hospital…for cryin’out loud.” |

Alex promised them that he was okay. Then that the court released him. She took a deep breath and smiled. “Damn straight they did.” She gave him another hug for a few moments before separating again. He then got to talking about Guido and how Jon needed to give him a jump-start. Finishing with telling the two no more tears. Jamie replied with them loosing Guido for a minute. She scratched the side of her head and just as Jet was about to speak the Strong Guy spoke. He sounded so weak; it broke her own heart to hear him. He asked the three if they wanted to keep it down, that it was a hospital. Jet moved further from Alex and closer to Guido. Speaking more quietly and softly, “Hey, G. Sorry about the noise. Do you need anything?” She was still so very relieved that Alex was okay. Nothing about that day was easy in the least. The fight, Guido’s fall, Alex’s death, Alex’s resurrection, the blonde was sure this day alone was going to give her at least a handful of grey hairs. At least it’d be close to her own hair color, and that her power would pretty much camouflage it. The blonde tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear and gently pat Guido’s arm. Waiting for his reply to her. |

Backing into the room with a tray in hand, entered another nurse wearing navy blue scrubs. Her head lowered as she moved through the room she only lifted her head when she was certain that there were no other medical staff in the room. The caucasian woman wore her brunette hair pulled back into a bun and according to the id clipped to her waist, she was Gabriella Urquia. Placing the tray of food upon the beside table, she finally lifted her head to face to reveal none other than Avery Doyle in her induced form, soft smile gracing her features despite all she had faced this day. After their makeshift infirmary had been emptied, she had accompanied Alix and Jamie, along with her more critical care patients to this very hospital. Once Alix was placed in her own room she had left her in Jamie's care and headed down to the cafeteria for something to drink; tea of course. There she had overheard some nurses talking about the man of hulking muscles that was on their floor and upon eavesdropping some more, realized that the man in question was indeed Guido. Feeling guilty that she had not come to his aid in his moment of need she sought out to find his room. "You wouldn't believe how unhelpful the staff here is," Avery began, switching off her image inducer and placing a bendy straw in a tall glass of water, which she passed to Jet for Guido. "They wouldn't tell me where his room was because I'm not family." She was irked. After all she had seen and had went through you would at least think someone would cut her a little slack. But being the honest person that she was, she admitted that she was not related without even thinking. Well, while she wasn't going to take no for an answer (she was in no mood) she also didn't want to be dragged out by security. So, finding one of the staff locker rooms she found an unlocked locker and helped herself to the set of scrubs within. While she was no where near dark enough to match the woman's picture, she took the chance that they wouldn't check her id. With that she just happened onto the food carts that was on Guido's floor and took his tray, politely explaining to the scullery staff that she was his evening nurse. Luckily that was enough. "It's good to see you guys made it through. Alix is just on the fifth floor, she in rough shape and absolutely tapped out, but she'll make it through it." She mostly said this for the Jamie doupe's sake as she was nearly sure he did not know. Her eyes then fell onto Alex, extremely relieved that what Alix had informed her was untrue…Thank God for that. It was all she had in her to keep happy tears from rolling down her cheeks. "And it's good to see you, Alex. Pietro will be so pleased to know that you're in one piece." Avery wasn't even sure if he had heard the news, but admit it or not, he would be glad his friend was alive regardless. She hoped she would see him before the night was over. For the time however, she chided Alex about his condition…the poor guy for as handsome as he was, looked like crap. "Please, be more careful." She needn't say more as she turned attention back to Jet and Guido who was just waking up. Although part of her knew they would understand, she still felt guilty for never returning when she was aware of Guido's condition. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to help…" |
