JP between Wild Child and Rogue

Today had been…one of the strangest days in his entire life. Mostly because of how quickly everything shifted from one mood to the next, leaving him now running high on life and the forces of Nature (yes the actual force of Nature) thanks to Wanda’s magic mojo. He could swear that if his senses were any sharper in that moment he’d start smelling colors and hearing smells and tasting sound. Despite the destruction, and everything that had happened, lives lost, and lives saved, everything felt different, but the same, but better all at once. He was certain that the energy boost would not last, especially with how he was moving both body and mind, however he would use it until there was nothing left in his body to make sure he saw her and his friends were safe and sound. The fast pace for the feral carried him over to the improvised infirmary area that was being set up. He could catch many familiar scents all around the place, some still here, others that were not. Then he found that trail that he was more familiar with, following it like a bloodhound looking for crack up some guy’s ass, Kyle moved through the crowd to find that striped haired woman. Even though his body was healed there was still the remnants of the battle he fought, dirt, ash, grime, dried blood, and a still re-growing fang that showed as he smiled completely elated to see her.

“Rogue!” He yelped just barely controlling an urge to pounce the woman and wrap his arms around her.

Rogue had been losing power rapidly after the fight with NIMROD. She had caught Alex and cradled him in the street for a moment. It was all a lot to take in. She was tired and suddenly realized that she had not truly been tired for some time. She had been running at full speed thanks to the strength that she had absorbed from the others. It was a bad sign. The power absorber had deposited Alex into capable and protective hands and her powers began to fade. The wings were the first to go. They began to wither quickly.

Rogue was sitting on the edge of a cot when she heard Kyle call out for her. Her clothes were in tatters and she had a silver emergency blanket wrapped around her body for protection. Her head snapped around. “Kyle!” she said brightly with a sudden burst of energy having felt completely drained. The power absorber ran forward. Kyle was holding back and she could see it in his eyes. She threw her arms out and hugged him tightly. Throwing caution to the wind Rogue kissed Kyle on the lips.

She was not the only one in tattered remains of what they wore before the battle, only unlike her he was missing hair as well as clothing, not that it seemed to matter at all. For a moment he completely forgot about her powers, and was too excited and wrapped his arms around her and returned her kiss with passion as he picked her up off the ground even spinning her some. He was just so filled with that energy and excitement that he did not yet feel victim to his girlfriend’s abilities, even though they were still occurring. Finally he set her down and pulled his arms back some though did not stop grinning. “I was so worried I’d never get to do that.”

Rogue couldn’t help but laugh in spite of herself. There were tears in her eyes that were now showing a golden gleam and slitted irises to reflect the powers she had imprinted from Kyle with her kiss. Everything was so overwhelming. The trial of Alex, the fight with the sentinels, the powers and minds of the friends she had absorbed were all weighing her down. Now she was elated having finally kissed her boyfriend. She felt fully energized, even more so than the other times she had copied his healing ability, and she would have been walking on sunshine even if she didn’t get the sudden dose of energy. “Better late than never, Ah reckon,” she said with a sniff and wiping her eyes with her thumbs being careful with the new claws. “Ah was helping Alex take on NIMROD when I heard your telepathic call. Ah wanted to come running but Ah couldn’t leave him. Ah felt like my heart was being ripped right out of my chest, sugah.”

He couldn’t stop smiling even as he saw tears of joy come down her face. Until that moment he didn’t realize that was his first kiss, let alone their first kiss as a couple. Kyle took a deep breath to take it all in, until she brought up that telepathic message he sent out. What he thought was his last words. That fanged smile fell some. “You…heard that?” He turned a little red embarrassed. “I’m sorry…that it hurt you, but it was true.” He looked into her altered eyes with his own pair she imprinted from. “Rogue you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me…” Kyle said and smiled lightly. “Well you just copied some of me; you know how I feel… I love you Rogue.”

Rogue knew exactly how Kyle felt. She could see his thoughts as plainly as her own when she touched him. She also knew it without having to copy his memories into her cortex. It was the way they acted, it was in every detail of every word they said. They had been building up to that moment from the night that Rogue’s life was saved at the hands of Kyle on the rooftops. It had been unspoken all that time and now it was out and real. “Ah love you too, Kyle,” she said having regained her composure.

In her mind she saw Kyle running with her on the rooftops that night. She felt his joy and freedom in those moments. In the memories, as Kyle leaped to the next building the scene suddenly shifted. She was now seeing the world through Laura’s eyes as she ran through the Facility, teeth bared and claws unsheathed. As Laura entered a doorway Rogue’s mind slipped into Piotr’s as he armored up and punched the wall of the gymnasium in anger. Rogue visibly winced and pressed her hand to her temple. She grabbed onto Kyle’s sleeve for support. “Sorry. Ah still got a few extra folks up here Ah’m trying to sort out,” Rogue said.

Those five words made Kyle feel like he could fly into the sky or leap tall buildings in a single bound. From being brought back from the brink of death to that moment, it was more joy and sheer happiness than he figured he experienced in the majority of his whole life. A sad thought but he was happy about it nonetheless. Almost a year since that night where they met on X-Factor’s rooftop, and the first time Kyle ever felt like a hero when he saved her from falling. He owed all that he was now and all the change to her and Alex.

Kyle supported her as she expressed some pain or something because of the load of memories in her mind, maybe his was just one too many. “C’mon, let’s get you back on that cot. Just relax, you did great babe.” The feral responded and helped her back to the cot he found her on. Sitting beside her, Kyle put the blanket around her again as he put an arm across the southern belle’s back. “It’s kind of funny how much can change in a year…” He stated softly. “This time last year you were a member of the Brotherhood, I was on the streets livin’ like an animal… and here we are now, together as heroes.”

Rogue sat back down on the cot with the emergency blanket and Kyle’s arm around her shoulders. She leaned her head into his shoulder. It was like a rollercoaster. Everything was up at one minute and down the next. She had crashed out after the dregs of powers had faded and now she was back up again. Rogue took a deep breath. The taste and smell of carnage came in. There was smoke, ash, and concrete dust. “Yeah, a lot can change in that time,” she agreed and she chuckled. “Heroes. When Ah left the Brotherhood that’s what Ah wanted to be. Ah wanted to atone for all the bad things Ah had done.”

“I had no idea what I wanted back then, since my mutation happened I don’t think I ever had any goal other than surviving. Lived like that for years until I met X-Factor…and you.” He said and held her closer. “That night with you was the first time I ever felt like a hero, ya know? I don’t think I’ll ever forget that night.” He smiled.

Rogue remembered that night fondly as well and she was glad that Kyle looked back on it with the same feeling. The world had been crashing down around them and both Rogue and Kyle’s minds were on the person they loved but they kept their eyes on the goal. Rogue took that as a good sign. That was what they were fighting for, the people they loved and cared about. At that time it could be their driving force but it didn’t turn out to be a hindrance for either of them. They had accomplished the mission. Rogue had ached to go find Kyle and make sure he was alive but she did not. She took in another breath and let it out slowly. Closing her eyes she said, “Can we just sit here and rest forever? Or even just a week? Ah’m not picky.”

He chuckled lightly at her comment and closed his eyes as well, just taking the moment in so he could remember this a year from now just like he did that first night they met almost a year ago. There was so much left to life for him, for both of them. Kyle really could have hit himself for nearly allowing himself to miss out on this during that futile last stand. “Sounds nice.” He responded with a closed lip smile. He knew it couldn’t last forever, or even a week. If they just got a few minutes though? He’d be happy with that.
