Date: October 12th, 2011 Time: Coinciding with Black and White He took the chance to join his king with the little venture to the Worthington Complex when he heard that Mr. Coleridge was planning on going there. The young man may have been one of the more innocent members of the Inner Circle, however he was not completely naive to things that he did not pick up on why the Black King was going there. The Black Pawn saw sparks between him and Storm the moment the two met, more so during that dance in Elysium. That being said, the Black King assistant completely expected that he would be dismissed for his King to be alone with the woman. It gave Jay time to himself, to think, and to wonder of who may still be at the Complex and who had left for the Savage Land. Quite frankly he was not expecting many to be here after the sentinel attack... more so he was not sure who may have survived since no one seemed to want to talk to him over the phone about any of it. So he stayed int he lobby for the moment, fiddling around with his iPhone playing Guitar Hero on it. Specifically playing Queen's We are the Champions on Expert mode. Rapidly pushing down on the screen with his thumbs as the song blurted out of the tiny speakers of the phone as he played, not missing a single note in the song as he played. Red. Red. Yellow. Blue. Red. Orange. Yellow. Red. Colored buttons flashed through his mind as they appeared on the screen. Quite frankly he was waiting for someone to interrupt his playing. He never thought playing music could be so boring until now. As he began to question why he even came here if he was going to be so awkward and not see if any of his old friends were around, or see if Sam was even around. Someone to just help him avoid counting the seconds tick away as he suspected his king was attempting to swoon the lovely Storm. Why did he come here again? |

Shard was coming in from job hunting most of the morning. God, she needed something. She was spending up her rainy day fund in her savings and from her last job and she definitely didn't want to ask Bishop and her Grandmother for money. The government is trying to take away the social security check her Grandmother lived off of in conjunction with Bishop's monetary support. For the reason, she didn't want to ask Bishop for any handouts. She needed a job immediately. She was riding a taxi back and it killed her on the inside to give her money to the taxi driver. She swore on the inside and promised that from now on she was going to walk everywhere. It's not like she got tired of walking. She had above human stamina and could physically exert herself for hours. I really hope I get one of these jobs she thought to herself. After a long day of seeming failure, Shard had homework waiting for her upon her return back to the complex. The front doors parted opened as she neared them and shut firmly after she entered the building. She looked around and took the sunglasses off of her face. She knew she didn't need them inside and she wasn't the type of young person who wore sunglasses unnecessarily. She waved to the building manager and the desk attendants on her left as she walked by them. Her Grandmother always told her to speak to people. You never know who you might be talking to. She looked to the right of her and saw a boy who was dressed very sharply. She assumed that it was one of Warren's clients coming to meet with him. If he was waiting on someone, Shard, also a guest of Warren, should at least see if she can help him. She approached the boy dressed in job interview attire and ask him, "Are you here to see Warren? Have you been helped?" |

"Are you here to see Warren? Have you been helped?" Hello distraction. The young man quickly silenced his game switching it off before looking up at the young woman who was quite frankly barely older than he was, dressed in a formal attire suited for a cooperate job or at least an interview for a job. He swore she seemed familiar as he quickly studied her trying to remember where he may have saw her. "No, I'm not here to see Mr. Worthington." Jay responded with a pleasent smile. Was she one of Warren's secretaries that Jay may have seen before? No that isn't right either. The school, that was where he saw her. She was an X-man, woman, whatever. What was her name? Shar something. Sharrie? No. Sharen? No. Something like... "Sharmaine, right?" He asked hoping he was right as he stood from his seat, pocketing his phone, no longer needing it to fill the time. "I'm Sam Guthrie's younger brother, Jay." He replied letting her know who he was so she would not be freaked out by a stranger suddenly knowing her name or something close to it if he was correct. "I used to go to the school before...well, before what happened last month." He didn't really want to talk about what happened at the school, let alone the Sentinel attack a few weeks ago. Even worse, an idea dawned upon him that some people wouldn't even recognize him with out the red feather covered wings sprouting out of his back. While he's lived with the change for over two months, he had not exactly been frequent in seeing members of the old school due to so many different reasons. Things started to click in the young man's head with what he knew about the young woman. Her name was Sharmaine Bishop, code name Shard, and younger sister to former student of the school and current SHIELD agent Bishop. He did not know her powers or personality or anything like that, which was rare for the once sociable and friendly Icarus, but you can't know everyone in the world, and those you do not know just give you a new opportunity to meet someone new. "I am actually here with my employer, to be more accurate I am waiting for him to finish a personal meeting with Storm. Figured I could have looked for some of my old friends, but I am beginning to think that they all finally left for that Utopia place I've heard about..." It was a sad thought honestly. He so desperately wanted to maintain contact with people he cared about yet the X-Men all decide that America isn't safe so they'll hide out in some unreachable place with dinosaurs or something. Maybe he was the one who did leave the faction, but at least he did not leave the continent all together. "But anyways, how have things been around here?" He did not want to add 'since the Sentinel attack', and hoped that he could have gotten some answers anyways. |

That was quick. It was obvious that the guy was here for a specific reason. He wasn't a resident and according to her own knowledge, this was not the personal office. Then why was he here? Before she could even ask him the questions, he started off by questioning her. Right off the bat, he knew her name, which kind of caught her off guard. Who the hell is this? she thought to herself. "Yeah, that's me. Do I know you?" she asked the boy. Did he Google her of something. Shard was beginning to think that it was about that time to Google all the sources of her personal information in order to get that stuff off of the web. Although, given her financial bind, she highly doubted that anyone would want to steal her identity unless they wanted to pay off her debt to society. It was good to have control of where your personal information goes. He followed calling out her name with an introduction of his own. Once he said that he was Sam's brother, the memory of him finally became clear. He was Sam's brother the that was kidnapped before the school blew up. Now she remembered. "I remember you! I'm so sorry I didn't remember. I should have known. How have you been since.... then", she said nodding her head when she spoke then. She stood in the lobby engaging the boy whom she was meeting for the very first time despite having lived in the same house for a few years. Maybe it was the gap between her and the other students her age. She did move up the ranks rather quickly. She thinks that her mental maturity and capacity played a large role into it. Though slightly resentful of it, she also had to attribute some of it to the fact that Lucas was her brother. There exist a certain standard of being a Bishop. Based on the footsteps left behind by Lucas, it was nothing short of incredible. She struggled to fill those shoes every now and again. If anyone were to understand, it would be a Guthrie "Well, you're a little more well off than me. At least you have a job," she laughed from behind the mask (figurative reference). She then continued to say, "Your employers are here meeting Storm? Woah, what company did you luck into. Do they give you the opportunity to utilize you abilities for a good cause? Is it a mutant organization almost like X-Corps? Given your background, I honestly don't expect anything less than that from you." She took a seat in the area where Jay initially was. She had hoped that during this time she could at least get to know her classmate who appeared to be around her own age. She knew that he had to deal with a famous, over-achieving older brother. |

"It's alright, really." Jay muttered in responded to her apology towards him on not recognizing him as quickly as he did her. After all he lacked the two appendages which usually gave himself away, thanks to the late William Stryker. He was still regretting seeing that execution first hand, but it was something part of him believed he needed to see. He needed to know that the nightmare was over. Now it was the time to move on from it all. The red headed man smiled lightly when she mentioned that he was better off than her with having a job. Quite frankly he would have agreed with her about that, at least with the job. While Mr. Coleridge was correct that there would be certain things he was uncomfortable with doing, most of it was pretty much what he did when he worked for Frost Industries under Emma, only Max seemed to give the young man more opportunity to prove himself, excel and learn. "Don't say I'm completely better off, I'm sure you see your brother far more than I see any of mine." Jay added with a very small hint at bitterness about that, though that smile of his seemed to wash it away. "I actually work for Coleridge Enterprises as Mr. Coleridge's personal assistant." Jay revealed, unsure if the woman knew his King by his proper name or not. "Though you may know him better as The Shroud...or Black King of the Hellfire Club." There was usually negative connotations involved with the group or title that belonged to his King. "You may have seen him during the attack back on the school, when he and the rest of the Club assisted in defending the school." Jay added hoping that the additional information would lessen any shock or negative opinion the young woman might have towards the Club as many X-Men seemed to have. "He was also the one who saved me from the Purifiers." The formerly red winged mutant said in a softer tone. "However I do not use my powers in business... My remaining mutant power since... well since the Purifiers, is just my voice." Jay stated switching topics a bit. Then his voice changed and carried that angelic charm, as well as portions of a fellow Black Pawn's siren's call. "While many enjoy hearing it, it is mostly for purely entertaining or calming others." He added. The combination of the two unique mutant frequencies was something he had been practicing since the Club took him in back in August, and then resumed practicing after he formally joined the club. It was an attempt to combine the highly pleasurable siren song, with his own relaxing and suggestible angelic charm. Though just as quickly as he spoke with the musical tone, he stopped. "I have been occasionally preforming for my own fun at the club with my music, generally gets tips, most of which I donate with a portion of my paychecks to various charities as well as X-Corp." He smiled. "You should come see me play some time." He added as an afterthought. |

At least he looked like he was doing well. Shard, on the other hand, was barely making it. Though she would never admit it to anyone, she was truly struggling in her jobless disposition. Jay mentioned that Shard was far better because at least she got to see her brother than he did. One, Shard did feel a little guilty. She had been back in New York and she really had not spent that much time with him. I need to get my act together, she thought. Two, she was not going to touch that. She had learned from the last time she tried to pry into harsh feelings against family members. Roberto had put her in her place and made her feel like a fool to try and pry. When he made the remark, she just nodded her head and said, "I guess you're right." She took a seat next to Jay so that she could enclose the gap between them a bit. Women tended to think that separation was not personal and hindered depth in conversation. It was purely reflex and nothing more than that. She listened to his current accomplishments and smiled honestly. On the inside it was killing her that she was sitting here jobless and listening to Jay's occupational aspirations. "That's really good. I'm glad that you found something that you like to do. I've heard your brother talk about how passionate you were about music but I've never had the pleasure to hear you for myself sadly," she mentioned. She had heard the X-men talk badly about the Hellfire but Shard had never really had any personal run ins with them so she couldn't really form a personal opinion. Quite frankly, if Jay was happy, she didn't care what he was doing. At the end of the day, Jay has to do what's best for Jay and she understood that. Didn't mean she was going to go off and do the same thing but, to conclude, she was not one to judge. Jay had extended a formal invitation to Shard and, of course, she said, "Damn right I want to come out and play." She felt that swearing was a form of disclosure and would make the guy more comfortable around her. Maybe if he noticed her unwind, he would too. Again, purely instinctual. She has been around enough to know how to produce and enhance conversation and read non-verbal ques. "So how did you get involved with Coleridge Enterprises? Did they find you? Were you looking for office work?" she asked a bit curious of the matter. The advice she heard from him might help her land her her own job. |

To say that Jay was pleasantly surprised to actually hear about Sam talking about his musical talent was an understatement. He was so used to Sam feigning interest or disinterest about it, or even sometimes criticizing Jay for using his mutation to sway listeners even though it was not like telepathic control or anything of that nature. Quite frankly the young red head was somewhat touched by the idea that his brother actually listened to his music, let alone perhaps enjoyed it. Not that Icarus would show it at all. All men had to keep their poker faces on when it came to emotional stuff between brothers after all. "Well then, how about we trade numbers then?" Jay said pulling out his phone and going to the new contact option. "So I can tell you next time I am playing so you can come by and see it." He smiled. With every person that came to see him play there was an increase in his fan base. Hopefully she had friends outside of the X-Men that she would inform and they would inform their other friends and soon there would be an entire network of new fans for the rising musician. "Well... It was Mr. Coleridge and the Hellfire Club that found me after I was abducted by the Purifiers. He saved me from the door of death and had me taken care of by some of the finest doctors money can buy. Then as I was getting better he gave me the offer to work for him. Before I was kidnapped, I was actually working for Emma Frost for a similar position, but Mr. Coleridge pays better and offers better opportunity for advancement and networking." Jay responded, it was an honest answer, perhaps simplified to what it really was. He also knew he painted it in a way to perhaps change the perspective of Max Coleridge and the Hellfire Club from what many knew of them. |

Sitting and listening, Shard looked upon Jay with glee while he asked to trade numbers. She would be delighted to trade numbers with him. She pulled out her cell phone and began tapping at the screen. Nice and easy. Shard was fairy strong for a young girl her age and size. Her physical abilities due to her powers didn't really affect her physical form. The thought of looking like a body builder didn't really float her boat in her mind. She was blessed to maintain some type of human form. Everyone wasn't so lucky. She tapped the screen on her phone and went to the message section. Jay didn't really remark on his brother mentioning that he was talented. Maybe Shard was crazy. She could have sworn that she heard Sam talk about it. Oh well, if she didn't, what was wrong with a little white lie every now then especially if they made people warm and fuzzy on the inside. Sam seemed completely distraught about Jay when he heard that he went missing. She didn't know about the internal issues about the family and Jay had not said or done anything to indicate it so to Shard. She passed off his silence as bashfulness. Shard weighed the possibility that no one really close to him had told him how great he was at singing. Of course, that wouldn't come from her because she has never heard the boy perform. "What's your number? I'll just text you. That should make things easier," she suggested. " I can't wait to hear you perform. I'll have to check out both the Hellfire Club and you singing for myself. Do I get a VIP pass since I'm an X-man?" she said ending with a cute smile and a wink at Jay. He had listed his previous occupational experiences which was great. The probability that Shard would be able to connect with Emma Frost was pretty low seeing as no one she knew had seen her since the incident at the school. That pretty much ruled out trying to work for her. And, if the X-men thought Hellfire was bad news, more than likely Bishop did too. Shard couldn't ask for a connection but the least she could do was check out the scene and watch Jay's performance. "Wow, well, I'm sorry about what happened to you. If I could go back in time, I would never have let those people lay a hand on you. It seems like you have really started finding your way now though," she said laying her hand on his shoulder briefly then shortly thereafter removing her hard from his shoulder. |
