Date: May 5’th Time: 11.59 pm A sigh filled the silent room, as Ariel leaned back in her very old and used chair stretching her arms and back as much as she could without risking the old chair’s back breaking beneath her. Not that she was at all heavy, she knew that, but she also knew that the chair was many years old and used before she had gotten it for free by the nice elder woman living next to her and her being constant cold probably didn’t help it much and so she was quite careful with how she moved in it. She blinked a few times, realizing she hadn’t done so in a while, as she had concentrated on the letter she was writing to go along with a nice little package with a few stuff in it for her cousin’s birthday and tears ran from her eyes and became ice upon her cheeks and she picked them off of her skin and placed them in an empty cup she had used for some juice. She stood up looking around her small apartment, it wasn’t much; a small living room that also worked as her bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom, but she didn’t really need more than that – it wasn’t like she was known for housing big parties and she didn’t have anyone living with her, so it was more than enough to satisfy her. She took the cup in her arm and wondered when it had become so dark in there. She hadn’t really noticed since she had had her little desk light on as she had worked on the letter trying to figure out what to say that hadn’t already been said over email, Facebook and Skype. Ariel looked around the floor quickly, considering if she should pick up the clothes she had been leaving on the floor the past two days but decided that she would rather do the dishes before finishing up her letter. Before walking towards the kitchen though, she opened the window to let the fresh and somewhat warming air fill her apartment, shifting out the old with the new. She walked to her kitchen and turned on the light, blinking a bit as the sharp light hurt her eyes, before starting to wash her dishes (something she had been putting off for the past two or three days) humming delightfully a Danish song from the quite recently famous singer Lucas Graham – a guy that had played her favorite character in the Christmas calendar in TV back when she was a little girl. Finishing up the dishes, Ariel looked at the time and shook her head, it was a good thing she had the day off tomorrow, or she would have been a mess the day after. She walked back to her desk and frowned; her letter was gone. Where could it have gone? The icy girl looked around her apartment thinking that the wind might have carried it off to weird places, when something white outside of her window caught her eye and she saw the letter had flown outside and was now stuck between an electrical cord and what she assumed was a TV or phone cord. She clicked her tongue a few times considering if she could rewrite the letter, but that would take her some time and she had to send it early the day after. She closed her eyes and swallowed something “You, Ariel Jensen… are insane.” She said to herself and climbed up to sit in her window and started to maneuver her way outside of it and onto the cement railing thing that was beneath her window on the outside, holding on tight to the edge of her wall, this was the stupidest thing she had ever done. “Please God, if you don’t let me fall, I promise to go to church every Sunday… the 1’st. Every Sunday the 1’st.” She prayed trying to reach out for the piece of paper that she was too lazy to replace, making sure to be ready to cover herself in thick layers of ice, in case she’d slip and fall. |

From time to time, it was necessary for the spider to get out of the sewers and into the open air. Tonight was one of those nights. He had been cooped up dealing with any problem that the Morlocks had as well as working on his garden. Almost instantly he was struck with the urge to feel the air on his skin, the wind rushing past him, the urge to leap into the open air. It was decided at that moment that he would sneak out and get some air. Having grabbed some blades for defense, the master of sneaking crawled his way towards the surface the alure of fresh air drawing him ever closer. Once in the open air he took a deep breath standing on his feet and listening to the city. Sirens, horns, alarms, among the sounds of the people all echoed around the area. He figured he was in a apartment filled neighbour hood and figured there would be quite a few people around. Switching to his night vision he looked up at the buildings around him. They were all massively tall and monolithic, perfect for climbing. Smiling under his mandibles, the spider crouched feeling the special fluid build up in his legs before releasing his jump. With a poof of sound and air, Anansi was launched into the air trailing along side a 15 story building. So great was his jump that he surpassed the height of the building before gravity claimed him. Though before she could claim her victim he spun and landed on the wall, sliding a few feet to remain sticking to the glass. Looking around again he picked another building and launched himself again. So it went for about 20 mins, he would launch himself from building to building, feeling the rush of air and the adrenaline in his system. Landing on one building he stopped crouched on a ledge on the fifth floor of a building, looking over the city. Taking a deep breath he enjoyed the open air, until he heard a sound to his right. Looking beside him he saw a piece of paper blow out onto the ledge and within a few moments a girl followed it out praying to God. "Well I don't think that if you decide to jump God will accept you," he said perhaps startling her "you'll just go to Hell." |

Just a little closer, almost there, just a little more, common…! Ariel was stretching as much as she could, while still holding on tight to her window frame and having her feet solid planted on it, but it was to no use, she wasn’t long enough to fetch it and she sighed a bit frustrated about it all – she simply had to re-write it. She was about to let herself inside again when a male voice sounded through the warm semi summer night and she turned around quickly, lowering the temperature to minus 5 Celsius around her, ready if someone was going to ambush her “Who the hell are yo-“ she didn’t finish her sentence as she looked into the eyes of another mutant. Ariel looked at him, he was to be honest, very unique, obviously a mutant and she gave him a friendly smile “Oh, hey there.” She said a bit softer than before, looking at his mandibles and his many eyes. She could figure out quite easily that he was probably one of those mutants that were very used to being feared, but she didn’t fear him. She actually thought he was a somewhat handsome guy, as she looked at his body – slim, trimmed and what she could see; strong. He had what looked like fur and four extra arms and of course; his face looked like a spider. Spiders didn’t bother her much, having spent her childhood on a farm, Ariel had been used to having them around and she had always been the kind of girl to take the spiders in her hands and letting them out – or just let them stay inside in the warmth, depending on the weather. “How long have you been there?” She asked before looking at her letter and having a smug smile appear on her greyish blue lips “Why don’t you let me worry about hell, while you’re a peach and fetch me that piece of paper there? I’m guessing you’re better at climbing tha-“ She didn’t get any further in her sentence than that. Having gone down to a temperature beneath the freezing point, the tree in her window frame had become unstable and as she had forgotten that her whole weight was hanging on it, it broke where her hand had been holding and she felt with a gasp how her body started to fall freely into the air. She could have sworn that she had a minor heart attack the moment she fell and in less than 5 seconds, her thoughts had went through her whole life, her dreams for the future, whishing it was a bad dream and she’d wake up in her bed with the feeling that she had just landed in it or that she had wings. But it didn’t take long, before she was in the arms of her mysterious peeping tom and she smiled up at him, “So… does my hero want to come in for a cup of coffee?” she asked with a smile, feeling the relief rush through her like a dear friend she had longed for, for so long. |

The spider watched as the girl tried to reach for the paper that was hanging just out of her reach seemingly oblivious to him, that is until she heard her voice. Almost instantly the temperature dropped and she turned beginning to ask who the hell he was or she was going to until she saw him. He had never in all his years of looking like he did ever have anyone change so quickly in their responses. As she was observing him, he was observing her. Anansi quickly noticed the light blue skin and the ambient aura of cold surrounding her. The colour of her eyes was very unique and since his own had no colour it was different to see. "Hello to yourself," the spider responded back to the woman "as for how long I've been here, oh about a minute." He was wondering why the woman had her window open on a somewhat cold night. Than again if she could control cold like he thought she could then there was really nothing to worry about. Smiling under his mandibles he listened to her as she asked him if he could grab her paper. "Uh sure I could do that..." he started to say before he heard the cracking sound of the tree. Instantly the woman began to fall and his body acted on its own. Grabbing the ledge with one hand he leapt off and dropped below her. Sticking to the wall he caught her in his left arms, his middle and lower arms wrapped around her torso keeping her from falling. His upper left arm grabbed the piece of paper she was talking about. Within a second he had pushed up off the wall and flipped over to stand on the ledge with her still in his arms. When she asked him if he wanted to come in for coffee he looking at her with one of his eyes. "Um I could do that I guess," he said letting her go closer to her window and handing her her paper "here is your letter." |

Looking into the face of her savior, Ariel enjoyed the feeling of lying or more like hanging in a set of strong arms with the relief rushing through her like a beloved friend that had been gone way too long and finally returned to her. It was a sensational feeling and quite the unique experience, after all, who could brag about having fallen out of a window, only to be caught by a mysterious, strong and uniquely mutated man? This was definitely something that needed to go into the letter and she gave him a bright smile as he had just given her the perfect way to end the letter she had been fighting with for so long. As he swung them up to her window, Ariel held on tightly to the guy, not that she didn’t trust or feel that he was holding her tight and securely, but all her impulses told her to do so in order to keep herself safe and alive. As she held on to him she felt how the hairs on his body gently poked her skin and she hid a grin to not make him feel uncomfortable, but it was amazing and she wanted to know more about him, his mutation. Slowly letting go of him and slipping inside of her window into safety, she didn’t let go of his hand dragging him along with her into the warmth of her apartment. The light in the kitchen was still on, casting a dim light over her apartment casting shadows over her stuff that laid around. It wasn’t too messy for her to have company, but it wasn’t clean enough for her to have her mother over either, so in Ariel’s eyes it was just perfectly cozy. She turned around to face him and an impulse went through her, she quickly turned down the cold that she created around her and suddenly she stood very close to him, pulling him into a tight hug. “Thank you so much for saving my life.” She said, her voice very low, almost a whisper, she looked at him with a smile and kissed what would be his cheek if he had looked like a normal human. “I’ll go make us some coffee… Make yourself at home” she smiled before turning around and walking towards her kitchen, trying to look just a little feminine on her way out. “I’m Ariel Jensen, by the way. Does my personal hero have a name?” She asked while putting the ground coffee beans into a bag and then into the machine. She wondered if he wanted something to eat, like cookies or chips as she poured the water in the machine and pressed the start button, before peeking out and smiling “You want anything to eat? Chips? Sweets? Pizza?” She asked before disappearing into the kitchen again starting to set up a tray of two coffee cups, sugar, milk and cream – just to make sure, a small bowl of cookies, a bigger one with sour cream and onion chips and just in case he wanted pizza she turned on her oven so it could preheat. The coffee was quickly done and she poured the black liquid into a can and placed it on the tray. She smiled proudly – she was becoming quite the host and she took it carefully and walked into where he was. |

As Anansi set the girl onto the ledge he was prepared to leap away but her hands in his drew him into her apartment. The warmth was appealing and while the urge to leave was very powerful, he decided to stay. Placing the piece of paper on the desk he stood near the window and looked around the apartment. It was sparsely furnished but was very natural for a single person living alone. The shadows from the kitchen light danced around the room making his eyes jump from one to the other. Instantly he could feel the cold aura from the girl decrease in the apartment, before she did something that shocked him. She hugged him close and thanked him for saving her life. It was then that she did something that he had never ever experienced. She kissed him softly on what would have been his cheek. If his eyes could widen they would have popped out of his head. Since his mutation no one had even shown any interest in him at all. Just like that she headed towards the kitchen, walking very femininely which drew the attention of his left eyes. Almost unconsciously one of his hands came up to his cheek and touched the spot where she had kissed him. He was in awe still feeling the warmth of the kiss. When she called back and told him to make himself at home, he took a look around seeing the furniture and deciding to sit on the ground. As she called back her name he again looked in the direction of the kitchen. "Um yes um yeah my name is Christian or Anansi or um... yeah," he said completely flustered. He was still in shock that someone would that what she did to him without complete disgust. "Uh yeah coffee is ok and whatever food you want to offer," he said politely not wanting to refuse her hospitality. Anansi waited somewhat anxiously as Ariel prepared the coffee and then a minute later came out with a tray loaded with coffee and some cookies. He stood up to help her carry anything if she needed it and to ask her a burning question in his mind. "Your not scared of me or terrified in anyway?" he asked her as he sat back down. |

She smiled as he told her his name..s, his names. So he too had a codename? She wondered what kind of faction he was on, if he was X-factor or something, but wouldn’t she have heard about him if he was? Maybe all visibly mutated people had codenames? “I love the name Christian, it’s so masculine and yet sensitive. The perfect mixture that a man should have.” She grinned, quickly looking at herself in the mirror like glass on the microwave, making sure her hair was somewhat decent to look at; well it was long, a bit curly and somewhat messy. She couldn’t do anything about it anyway, so she just shrugged it off. “I’m guessing Anansi is your codename or something? It’s unique, I like it. Mine isn’t that creative, it’s Icy. Which kinda comes with the looks I guess.” She stood in the door between where he was and the kitchen and with the tray in one hand she gestured for him to look at her body with the other. “Blue icy skin, a cold aura. It’s a given to have such a ‘creative’ name.” she chuckled. She smiled as he stood up to help her, such a gentleman like thing to do and much appreciated as she didn’t wish for the hot coffee to touch her skin. “Just place it on the table here.” She said and pushed a bra, three socks and a few papers off of a little table. She had seen him sit on the floor instead of anywhere else and decided that if that what he wanted, she’d do it too and dropped down on her floor with a big grin. She looked at him with interest as it seemed like something was on his mind and a smile that revealed how his question wondered her a bit she shook her head. “No, I’m not a least bit scared or terrified of you.” She replied and ran her eyes over him “I find you unique, handsome in your own way and quite cute.” She ended her glance at his eyes with a bright smile “I grew up at a farm and spiders were a part of my daily life. They helped keeping the mosquitoes and flies away from me – especially at night, and I’d let them stay inside in the warmth. To me, spiders are as natural as dogs and cats and if we can have such kind of mutants, why not spider mutants? I think it’s cooler than a dog.” She stretched her arm out for him with a smile “Common Christian, sit down and drink some coffee. You seem like a guy who could need some never-gonna-judge-you-on-your-looks company and I’m just the right gal for that.” She said and chuckled “People don’t really feel comfortable with a frozen dead body walking around amongst them and my cold aura doesn’t really attract people’s wishes to be near me, so in a way I guess I know how you feel. Of course, I’ll never know how it feels to look like something people has spent many years fearing and misunderstanding, I can’t imagine it’s been easy on you…” |

Anansi sat and listened to her talk saying that she liked the name Christian. It was a unique name though to him it sounded to much like Christ, who he had no affiliation with. "Well Anansi is the name I use almost all of the time," he said one eye towards the kitchen "not many people know my real name, I prefer Anansi. It suits me better." As she mentioned her own name he looked at her and he smiled slightly before looking at her. "Icy eh? seems to suit you though I could think of other names," he commented before catching sight of her in the doorway. His eyes roved over her blue frame and he felt himself blush a little bit. As she handed him the tray he nodded as she told him to place it on the table. Watching as she sat down he listened to her explain why she wasn't scared of him. His mandibles twitched slightly as she talked bout him being handsome and cute. Those words almost never went hand in hand when talking about him. Anansi stood and looked down at this blue skinned woman who was not afraid of him. When she beckoned him to sit down with her and have some coffee. Anansi smiled when she mentioned not being judged by looks and he sat down silently across the table from her. When she mentioned how she had some experience with being treated differently he could sympathize with her. "Well you don't look like a dead body to me, its a nice blue not at all like an atrophied body," he commented her "trust me I have seen dead bodies and you look nothing like them." Pouring himself some coffee he added sugar and a little bit of cream, making sure there was more sugar. He loved the sweetness that it gave and he took an appreciative sip, his mandibles lifting away from his mouth enough to put the coffee cup to his human lips. At her last comment he stopped and thought about it. "Yeah it was very hard when I first changed, but after it was ok," he said remembering his home in Toronto and his circus life "I was beaten and tortured before I escaped and then I made my way to New York and here I am. Though now I kinda use my uniqueness to my advantage to scare people if necessary." A smile crossed his lips before taking another sip of coffee. |

A smug grin that hid her thoughts quite well formed on her lips as the guy looked at her, she wasn’t stupid, she knew she looked good and the fact that she was only wearing a pair of shorts and a top didn’t do anything to hide her slim body. The blush on the guy wasn’t obvious, but the light from the kitchen hit just right making it visible for her eyes and though his words usually wouldn’t have made her think that he was commenting on her looks more than her name in general, him blushing made her think that. “Oh, and what names are those?” she asked him genuinely curious as to what he had to say – she could be wrong after all and if she was, well that was just that then. Maybe she would have to work on how she was overly confident in herself, then. As he sat down Ariel couldn’t keep her eyes from him, he looked like one of those incredibly cute spiders that she had once heard of in a documentary… a hopping spider or something like that. His fur had an amazing color play and she was in awe over it and didn’t really notice his words before a little moment after. This time it was her turn to blush and a purple color seemed to take place on her cheeks and over her nose “Thanks…” It wasn’t so much the fact that he said she didn’t look like a body, it was the fact that he had said her color was nice. She hadn’t heard that often and it kinda felt good to hear it. The ice manipulator wasn’t used to blush at all and found it a bit embarrassing, but also intriguing how one small comment within a sentence about dead people from this guy could make her react that way. She followed the guy’s example and poured some coffee into a cup to herself and added a lot of sugar and cream – she loved the sweetness and for some reason she didn’t like her coffee too hot. She looked into her cup for a moment to see the milk mix with the black liquid lifting her hand up to her red hair and pushed it behind her ear “I remember when I first changed. My mom woke me up with a scream, as she saw me lying there blue and cold. She thought I had died.” She laughed lightly “They kept me at home for a whole to make sure I wouldn’t get teased, but I’m too stubborn for that, so I went to school and endured people’s hatred.” She said and shrugged; amused by how his mandibles had opened and revealed that he had human lips. “Some people are cruel, but we can’t blame them. They’re scared of us and I understand it I mean, I could easily kill someone just by freezing them. But then again, someone could easily buy a gun, buy bullets and commit a school shooting down in Columbine and that proves that everyone is dangerous.” She babbled on playing with a log of her hair, getting her finger stuck in it and though she casually tried to get it out, it was quite obvious that she was having trouble with it. “So… where do you live…?” she asked while looking at her finger and log of hair, crossing her eyes. How would she ever get her finger out of this one? |

As she asked what other names he would pick for her instead of Icy he looked at her and smiled before answering "Well Frostbite, Glacier are a few though I'm not good at coming up with names." Taking a sip of his coffee he watched as she did the same. They say in silence briefly before she talked about her powers. Smiling when she said her mother thought she had died, Anansi looked at the girl. "Well least your parents supported you," he said "mine died in a car crash before I mutated. Though when I changed, I ended up turning my room into a giant web filled room. Thankfully my sister was there and she helped me cope at the beginning." Sipping his coffee, Anansi listened to describe how cruel people could be. It was very true people could turn into the cruelest people in an instant. Flashing back to his old boss and his friends, the ones that beat and tortured and hurt him just because he was a mutant and looked different. He sipped the coffee thoughtfully thinking about how he broke free and ended up killing his captors and fleeing. Absently one of his hands picked up a small cookie and popped it into his mouth. One of his eyes watched as her finger twirled into a curl in her hair. When she asked where he lived he stopped and looked at her fully, his main eyes focusing on her. What was he to do? Tell her he lived in the sewers beneath the city, hiding from those that hated him. "Uh well I live in the old subways below New York," he said without realizing it. Closing his mouth he couldn't believe that he had told her that. A wave of embarrassment that he had never felt before washed over him, feeling like the sewer rat that he was. |

Okay, so she had been wrong – very wrong. He had actually been talking about a suitable name to her powers and not so much her looks. ‘Don’t blame yourself too hard, you’re not used to reading the signs from a male spider mutants.’ she reassured herself and smiled at the guy, “Too bad you weren’t around when I was supposed to choose a codename, those are quite cool actually. Though isn’t a glacier like a hot spring in the middle of snow and ice, that sometimes spits boiling hot water out?” she asked with a chuckle, her Danish accent kind of heave as she spoke. She hadn’t anticipated what he told her and she blinked and looked sad for a moment “Yes… they were there for me and I never appreciated then enough, I admit that now that I’ve moved to the USA… I’m sorry to hear about your parents, I’m sure they’d have accepted you anyway.” She said with a secure smile. “And where’s your sister now..? Since she helped you and all? She must love you as you are, right?” The icy girl thought about her parents back at her home country, such amazing people they were, considering how much she had put them through with her mutation. She thought about her family in general and how supportive they had all been of her when all of this had happened. Considering how many of the people she had met, had felt the hatred from their parents when they had mutated, Ariel felt lucky, proud and blessed. “So, how does it feel? To have four arms..?” she asked, not that it had anything to do with her thoughts, but it was a genuine question anyway and she didn’t need to share these thoughts with someone who had just told her that his parents were dead. Ariel was taking a sip of her coffee when he had told her where he lived and she quickly spit it out into the cup again, instead of all over herself, had she heard correctly? She looked at him and saw and felt how serious he was and she placed her hand on his knee – it was the only thing she could really reach, since he was across the table. “Beneath New York?” she asked and shook her head, “Why would you do that?” she asked realizing why the minute she had asked “Ooh… to get away from judgmental eyes.” She couldn’t blame him. She too had wished to disappear from the face of the earth, many of times. “Do you want to stay here for the night? I have room and it’s warmer than outside.” She offered him. In Denmark, where she was from, it wasn’t unusual for two people of the opposite sex to have sleep overs without anything being implied in it and so she offered him without hesitating, not seeing anything wrong with it. Sure he was a stranger, but he had saved her life. What more prove that he had no intentions of harming her did she need? |

"Nope a glacier is a giant mass of ice that exist in mountain ranges and part of Antarctica," he said as he sipped his coffee again parting his mandibles "what your thinking of is a geyser. Boiled water launching itself out of the ground into the air after being pressurized." As the conversation switched to the topic of their parents, Anansi grew quietly remembering hearing about the car crash. His initial reaction was denial and then anger and then isolation. It had been tough for the young man to lose his parents at the age when they were encouraging him to do well in his gymnastic and to go towards the Olympics as a final goal. He listened to her talk about her own parents and how they were supportive of her. "My sister is actually still living in Toronto working for a construction company," he responded "I try and keep in touch with her but it's a little hard to and yeah she loves me just as I am. She doesn't want me to change anything I am or become something else. To me I am still her little brother." When she asked him how it felt with four extra arms, he paused. He had actually never considered it. Since he had mutated it had just been a constant that he had always had. "Well now that you mention it I don't really know," he said back "It's just always been here, like it was always apart of me like my eyes have been. I guess you could say they let me do so many different tasks at the same time." His eyes watched as she spat her coffee back into her cup in shock. A smile crossed his lips briefly seeing how it could be considered a shock to some, he hand on his knee not leaving his notice. "Yup beneath New York in an old subway," he said sipping his coffee "Yeah mainly to get away from all the people that are against physically mutated people like myself. Actually there is a rather large community of us that have been persecuted, injured or hated towards by regular people." The next thing that she offered surprised him a little bit. She offered for him to spend the night and he blushed hearing her comment. "Um that wouldn't be bad, but I kinda have to check in eventually," he said with reluctance as he scratched his head "though I wouldn't mind staying for conversation if you want me to." It was very weird for Anansi to be offered to stick around, even more of a shock to be offered to spend the night. Taking another sip of his coffee he seemed to shrink back in a little bit from the table. He was very awkward in the position having never experienced something like this before. Looking back at her, he smiled softly. |

As if it hadn’t been enough that she had blushed before, now she did it again, this time of sheer embarrassment and her cheeks began to glow purple as the red color from a blush mixed with her blue skin and the H2O molecules around her started to freeze a little, creating a mist around her “Uhm… Okay I might as well admit it…” she said and hit her face in her hands, “Oh God, you must think I’m a real sprogspasser…” she said and then she pulled her hair, she always started speaking Danish when she felt embarrassed about herself “I mean idiot… Geez…” she took a deep breath and lowered her hands down to her lap fiddling with the strings on her shorts “As you might… have guessed… I’m not an American. I’m actually European… Scandinavian to be more exact… and if we have to go into details… I’m from Denmark. And… sometimes I don’t know or remember specific words and then… I just guess, comparing them to what it sounds like in Danish…” She admitted to him and bit her bottom lip “It doesn’t happen often at work and such, because I’m focused… I’m on my mark… but here, late at night… I guess my focus slips.” She said trying to shrug it off. Listening to him talk about his sister, Ariel felt warm inside happy to hear that the unique looking guy had someone in his life that cared for him, despite everything, someone who hadn’t turned their back at him just because he was different. “I’m so glad to hear that. What’s her name?” She asked wanting to hear more about this person who seemed to not care about his looks. It was nice to know that her family wasn’t the only one who looked behind the looks, remembering the person behind the looks. “Why aren’t you there, with her?” She asked and then smiled widely “Not that I’m not happy you’re here. If you hadn’t you wouldn’t have caught me, saving me from my doom.” She said leaning forward resting her arms on the table and her head on her arms, not mentioning that she wouldn’t have brought the temperature down if he hadn’t startled her and thereby not have broken that part of her window frame. Looking at his arms and then his eyes she grinned “Well, I guess that’s normal… It’s like I don’t notice the cold around me because it’s a part of me.” She related to what he said and looked at her arms “It can come in handy when you want something cold to drink.” She chuckled lightheartedly, “But I see how four extra arms can come in handy, ‘specially when cooking or catching falling idiots on a building.” And old subway? Was he serious? She looked at him for a moment processing the news “A subway filled with people like you and me? People who are not accepted by the normal humans, who has simply decided to not fight for their rights but gone out of the public’s eye?” She asked him not knowing if it sounded attractive in to her or not. She understood why other visible mutants would want to run and hide, avoiding the hatred that she met on a daily basis, but then again, she was too stubborn herself to do such a thing, wasn’t she? “How exactly does that work? Is that why you have a codename? Anansi that is? What does it mean anyways? Do you guys call yourself something? Like the X-men call themselves the X-men, I work for X-corp, there’s the Brotherhood and so on? You guys sleep on the floor or do you have beds?” she went on a question streak and though she could have kept on raining him with questions, she had to stop herself, knowing that it could be quite overwhelming. She furrowed her eyes as he talked about ‘checking in’ and not wanting to stay to sleep, but he’d stay for the conversation and she scratched her head, having finally freed her finger from her hair a bit confused when a realization came over her. The Americans weren’t as laid back as Denmark. “Well, if you’re sure. I was just offering a place to sleep” She said and smiled giving his knee a gentle squeeze before letting go of it “But I’d very much like you to stay and chat. I like getting to know new people, gaining new friends and you seem like a very nice and interesting guy.” She said and looked at her cup of coffee on the table. It had already gone cold, as she had been holding it in her hands for a bit too long “I’m sorry if my friendliness came off too strongly and if I have made you uncomfortable, Christian.” She apologized sincerely. Sometimes the cultural barrier was hard to break, even if she had been living in the states for quite a while now. |

Anansi watched as Ariel blushed so much that the water molecules around her froze and turned into a mist. The purple that she turned was a beautiful color and it played wonders across his eyes. He listened to her as she exclaimed that she was from Denmark and that things such as words were pronounced differently. When she reached down and fiddled with her shorts he thought she looked very cute and smiled as he sipped his coffee. Holding up a hand he paused her before speaking "It's fine Ariel, you don't have to explain anything. Its ok to not understand the differences in a culture. I'm Canadian, it was weird to experience different things than at home." The conversation quickly skipped to his sister and she asked what her name was. "Her name is Sarah and the main reason that I'm not there and am here is because I needed to find other people like me," he said again munching on a cookie "and yeah there is the fact that I wouldn't be able to save you tonight." Watching as she drew closer by leaning on the table Anansi fiddled with his lowest set of arms before looking at her again. "Yup with my arms they feel like they have always been a part of me, its nothing new to experience," he said a jovial tone in his voice "though if I were to lose them and my eyes, I don't know what would happen." Anansi listened to her come to the conclusion that he lived under the city and there were a group of them all living together. Smiling he poured himself another cup of coffee. "Well we aren't really refusing to fight, it's just all the people that are down there have been persecuted against so many times the only option was to retreat from the world. We all work together to find food, and bring other necessities when we need them." "The reason that we have different names is because many of us want nothing to do with the surface," he explained "Yup mine is Anansi, and it doesn't really mean anything. Anansi is the African spider god of trickery and mischief and I thought it was suitable for how I look. As for what we call ourselves we call ourselves Morlocks. Yeah we have beds, its basically a little village with every person having their own little alcove where they sleep." When she mentioned that she was apart of X-Corps his eyes focused on her yet again thinking she must be a fairly new recruit. His eyes watched as her brows furrowed in when he explained that he had to eventually check in or go back. "Oh I know you were just offering a place to sleep it's just our leader gets a little nervous when people are out for long periods of time," he said with a cheeky grin "but I am definitely not going anywhere. It's nice to see someone who isn't afraid of my looks." When she offered an apology to him for being so friendly he tilted his head and looked at her. Reaching across he patted her arm "You don't have to apologize for anything," he said "honestly I am just not used to having someone be so friendly most of the time people are rude and then become violent. So its nice to see someone who is willing to accept me not for my looks. Thank you for that, it makes me feel normal." |

She was lucky to have looked up just in time to see him raise his hand to stop her never ending babbling and assure her that she didn’t have to explain anything and how he too had met the differences. A small and quite shy looking smile formed on her lips and she looked down at her hands still fiddling with her shorts “Well… Canada can’t be that much different from the U.S… can it?” She asked actually curious about how it was in Canada. She recalled that she had once seen a South Park episode where the Canadians were striking and so the Danes took over saying they weren’t so different and she wondered if Denmark actually did have more in common with Canada than with the U.S.A. “Try and say ‘I’m ‘bout to get on a boat to go watch a canoe race’ and do it in that Canadian accent.” She asked him to with what seemed like laughter in her voice, “I just love accents. I don’t notice the accent around here much anymore, but I love British accents, French accents, Irish and Scottish accents, Southern states accents and Canadian accents.” She said and finally looked up and into his eyes, her skin color not changing back, but remaining the purple result of a red blush on blue skin. Ariel smiled as he explained why he wasn’t with his sister, it had been pretty much the exact same reason why she wasn’t with her family – her cousin – but instead here in the U.S.A. sipping coffee with a nice stranger. Well, he wasn’t a stranger anymore, she knew his name, his origins and such, so she wouldn’t consider him a stranger anymore, but an acquaintance that she’d like to make a friend out of. “Yeah, I totally get that. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life after I had pushed through school and since my family new another family that had a mutant that lived with the X-men – her name Lucy Saint, they sent me there. But that wasn’t really me and so I decided to join the Corps while I figured out what I wanted to do and I kinda just… began to really enjoy my job there and now I have no plans of leaving. That of course annoys my family quite a bit, since they want me back home, but I like it here.” She took a cookie from the bowl and took a bite of it to shut herself up; she didn’t want to babble the guy’s ear off. Not that he had any ears, but she knew what she meant. She listened as he talked about his powers, how it seemed to always have been a part of him, how it was natural for him and how he wouldn’t know what to do if he lost his powers. This made Ariel think about null cuffs and such things and she had to concentrate, not to sit there and shudder as he spoke. Thinking about losing her powers was a devastating thought, even if a mutation could be a curse at times, it was still a part of her and who she was. It made her special and unique, something out of the ordinary and she liked it when all came down to it. She listened as he talked about where he lived, how they helped each other out and how they would go out and get food for each other. She observed as he poured himself another cup of coffee, silently following how his muscles were working, fascinated by how his mutation functioned, listening to him talk about why they had other names than their given ones, she could definitely understand that. It was when he mentioned the name of the group that she realized what exactly they were talking about, how could she have been so stupid? Of course they were talking about the Morlocks, how could she have missed that? “Ooohh, I know of you guys.” She said before finishing up the cookie she had been nibbling off while listening. “Yeah, X-Corp helped you not long ago. I wasn’t personally involved, but I heard about it.” She said and smiled at him; so he was a Morlock, that answered a lot of her other questions. She looked at his moving lips, revealed from his mandibles as he told her how he knew she was only offering him a place to sleep and nothing else and how it was because of his leader that he couldn’t stay and she nodded “Well, I guess if ya have a bed and a warm place to stay, then there’s no need to sleep over.” She tried to chuckle and enjoyed as he gave her a cheeky grin, he was starting to warm up to her – she grinned a little at her own pun - and that made her happy as it was a sign of them being able to actually become friends, something she would very much like. “Well people who are scared of you, because of your looks are blind. You’re damn adorable; people should start making teddys of you instead of bears. Bears are far more dangerous than a spider. I’d much rather cuddle up to you than a bear.” She grinned and took yet another cookie and started to nibble off of it, “You’re welcome Christian and thank you for understanding, makes me feel less embarrassed.” |
