Before the Skrull Queen's announcement
4am-ish

4:00am

Danger examined the blue fingers she held before the large sensor ports that served as her eyes. She wiggled her fingers, stiffly at first, but then with increasing skill. "All responses seem to be functioning within acceptable perimeters. System has been transferred into ambulatory housing." She ran her hands down her new form and said, "Desig.... Network designed it to be feminine. Does it succeed?"

Scott looked up from where he was adjusting the last of the new system components, to look over at Danger in her new robotic form. Network had indeed given her the semblance of an adult female, with the proper curves in the proper places. The blue sheen of her metallic form looked vaguely purple beneath the red of his lenses, the various seams and layers of circuitry making a very unusual but not displeasing form. He looked her up and down, with a dispassionate eye, thinking to himself that the very attributes that gave her the female shape were unnecessary but in his clinical examination he supposed that they were at least very well crafted without being distractingly exaggerated.

"Cyclops?" Danger prodded, and she tilted her head, the metal adornments to approximate long feminine hair around her head rustling in a way she would soon get accustomed to. "Are you functioning?"

"What?" Scott frowned, "Oh, yes, I am. Your new casing looks good. I'm just... thinking of ways to perhaps tighten up your shape. There are unnecessary..." He stopped and looked up at the robotic form's oval lensed eyes and said, "You know what, never mind. You look great. Miss Vale did a fine job with you."

Danger crossed the room to crouch beside him, enjoying the bend to the knee, the flexibility of motion, "The X-Men have been patient with this program. But, Query. Cyclops is not content with the lack of progress regarding the biosphere shielding, is he?"

Looking back down at the computer components he was tinkering with, Scott said, "No, Danger, I'm not. I'm concerned that we aren't going to be able to figure out these programs, I'm concerned about what's going on outside the shielding, I'm concerned about my friends, my family. I'm concerned I've made a mistake bringing these children here. One of our youngest kids has been replaced by a shapeshifting invader from god knows where, and one of our most promising students has had her body commandeered by an insectile monster with no apparent cure for it. I have a lot of things to think about, Danger, and, for the first time in a long time, I'm feeling as if I don't have the answers I need. I'm tired, and I have to maintain the face of stoic confidence because all eyes are on me, always."

The tall metallic woman unfolded herself and said, "This Program has given you a solution to the problem of your two lost children. Eradication procedures are expedient and can be made to be relatively painless."

"I'm not killing Nat'ren or this Brood unless I know that there is no other solution," Scott said, closing his eyes and slipping his hand beneath his glasses to pinch at the bridge of his nose. "It's not how it works, Danger. It's not how I work. I need to know that there are no other options."

Danger's eyes flashed with internal processing and then after a moment that was probably less time than it actually seemed like, she said, "The Shields will be lifted in approximately 100 hours. It will take that long to reroute systems and redevelop communications with generators. Is that sufficient and acceptable?"

"What?" Scott got to his feet. "Danger?"

The robotic woman looked at him and though her expression was not designed to change, she said, "Cyclops, this unit has been scanning your programming, your file footage. I have watched as you and those who sub function beneath you work to protect. Species: Homo Sapiens Superior needs Collective: X-Men. Function is obsolete and Danger is... incomplete. There may have been errors made in my programming. Until I can run full system diagnostics, this program will defer to Cyclops's judgment."

The exhausted mutant leader smiled, for the first time in several weeks, and he nodded, "Four days and change. That works, Danger, thank you."

Danger nodded, "Consider it a... *accessing colloquialisms*... professional courtesy."

"What do you mean," Scott frowned.

The robotic form somehow managed to take on a quizzical look and then it said, "Cyclops, are you not a Danger Program yourself?"
