Time: Immediately following An Appeal to the Essence of Being which is immediately following The Hollow which is supposed to be like noon, I think?
Date: May 20th, 2012

So, relationships were kind of strained between Morph's own much-adored X-Factor and the Bohemian Hobo trope of lovable misfits known as the Merry Morlocks. The 'Merry' part wasn't part of their name yet, but give Kevin enough time and he was pretty sure that he could change their minds. No, the tensions were not over the Morlocks's name, though it was, this situation would be a lot more fun.

The two groups had been rivals for the patch of land. Well, under-land since both of them lived underneath the ground, but same diff. They wanted to live in the same two places, and since neither of them had stuff like the deed to the property, they couldn't go to a judge and hash it out. Also, the Morlocks probably didn't want to be in the system or anything like that.

And then when it came to a head a few days ago, X-Factor kind of killed their leader, Callisto and it turned out that she was actually an alien from another planet just pretending to be a mutant. Now, it turns out that her species was planning on taking over the planet, and they were taking all necessary steps to accomplish that goal.

Morph and his team, Tandy and Humberto, were sent by their Supreme Leader, Alex Summers, to contact the Morlocks and try to get them to join X-Factor in fighting off the damn dirty Skrulls.

Considering Morph was pretty sure none of the Morlocks had TV, he wasn't sure if they even knew about the imminent alien invasion.

Taking the form of a hairy, strong-armed barbarian, something out of Robert E. Howard, he banged his heavy waraxe against the floor of the abandoned subway tunnels they called home. "Hear me, Morlocks, we come in peace!" he bellowed. Sometimes it worked best to be subtle. Facing imminent invasion and enslavement didn't seem to be one of those times.

(OOC: Yeah, Callisto's skrull dies at the end of the X-Factor/Morlock fight. Sorry to spoil that, but its necessary. Just think of it like you bought the issue after a crossover without buying the second part of the crossover. Also, don't forgot to post in the Morlock/X-factor fight as well as this thread.)

A couple of minutes after the orders were given, the trio of mutants headed out into the tunnels making their way to the Morlock home. Ever since that battle with the skrull’s that had been impersonating Callisto and a few others, Humberto did not know what to think of the woman. He had never truly met Callisto and all of the bull that had happened to him was all under a false leader’s orders. But these things, these skrulls, they possessed the personalities of those that they took over. It made him wonder just how much of the reals behavior the fake Callisto reflected. Maybe one day soon he would find out. Until then, the team had a duty to report what was going on topside to the Morlocks and ask for their aid. In a time like this, unification was all too important.

Humberto believed that the others did not give a damn about the land and who owned it, not all of them anyway. As long as the ‘locks were left alone they were fine with whoever else lived below… except for that one guy whom the older members of the family told him about. As they traversed the underworld, Humberto kept his physiology between mutant and dinosaur. His golden eyes made seeing in the dark no task at all and his other senses were wide open. He had taken up a rear position being the best one to spot any signs of danger that may be lurking in the dark corners that Dagger had not illuminated. It was not long before the trio made it to their destination, the place he once called home. Morph changed his shape and called for their attention in his usual comical manner.

He stepped forward. “Uh yea, what he said. We’ve come to you guys to warn you about what’s going on above. The imposter apparently has many, many friends that are finally showing up. Whole cities abducted and invasion forces deployed. To put it simply, we’re screw if nothing’s done.”

Tandy followed Alex's orders and tagged along with Morph and Reptil, leading them through a maze of dark and dingy tunnels on their way to the Morlocks. She kept a dull light lit in each of her hands, allowing for visibility, but not bright enough to be blinding. It seemed to be a long walk, at least from her perspective, since she had never been there before. Much like the walk she had taken with Daredevil from the surface and down into the depths where the Mutant Hunters were located, she felt the walls closing in around her and the air growing stale. It was obvious that people didn't travel these paths very often.

Thankfully their road came to an end and it opened up into the place that she assumed was where the Morlocks were located. Morph changed his shape into a large barbarian looking man and Humberto stepped forward, calling out to his former group. Tandy lowered her hands and let the light fade, looking to her two new team mates. She still felt like she hardly knew them, but after the fight they had been through, she felt she could trust them well enough. Morph earned a smile and a shake of her head and she reached out and nudged him on the shoulder.

"Do you really think a giant muscle man carrying a waraxe is the best way to greet someone?" Tandy questioned, able to see the humor in it, but not wanting to be attacked at the same time. She turned and listened as Humberto called out to his former group and then walked up beside him. Tandy then spoke up, adding in her own two cents to the end of Humberto's words. "Basically we would like your help. Like Humberto said, they are invading the earth but they have already shown that they will not stop at just the surface. Alex has sent us to see if there are any willing and able to help."

Sleep. That’s all he craved these days, but whatever mockery of a higher power there was just didn’t care to grant Ink such a lovely thing. He’d been in a half-conscious state of slumber, absent-mindedly pitching between his threadbare sheets every few minutes to avoid putting pressure on his bruises. His aching body jerked every time a mattress spring pressed against battered flesh.

It’d been a few days since Ink had had the sweat, breath, and blood beaten out of him by the "comrades" he’d grown to confide in over the years. Although Healer’s skills weren’t able to completely stitch up the full extent of his injuries at first, the internal bleeding was taken care of and the young Morlock was forced to simply deal with the bruises and tenderness until the old man regained strength enough for another session. However, the physical aspects of his agony were trivial in comparison to the psychological turmoil he felt at having extinguished the life out of his friends, whether or not their forms were donned by the originals at the time. Worse still was the fact that the lot of them all, Morlocks and X-Geeks alike, still had no knowledge of where their missing allies had been hidden away…

He’d finally been able to doze off before the boisterous rumblings of a certain shapeshifter echoed in his skull. At the sound of that numbnut’s booming voice, the tattooed man shot out of his bed and subsequently let out a lengthy groan as he made his way toward the entry tunnels. Who the fuck was just barging in and bellowing shit out while he was trying to sleep, conventional hours of rest be damned!

It was a short walk to The Alley’s entryway from his hovel, and as such, he was one of the first responders to Morph’s call. Ink was still in his bed attire, if such a scant amount of coverage could even be deemed as such, though his lower half was swathed in a blanket to preserve what little decency he had left. As he neared closer to the group, two familiar faces stood beside the racket’s source. At the sight of Morph’s barbaric form, Ink let out a chuckle.

“What's with Conan? Is X-Factor accepting inbred Norwegians now or something?” he inquired with a wicked grin, “God dammit, Reptil. It’s like the equivalent of six a.m. for me right now. What the fuck do you guys want?”

Dreamer
Unregistered

A while ago...

The Dreamwalk had been a strange place for a while now, even by local standards. And given the decidedly strange nature of the Dreamwalk's local standards, that was definitely saying something. Dreamer didn't entirely understand the images that were appearing in her psychic realm... the Dreamwalk didn't really work that way. It seemed to have something to do with missing people, and people turning into monsters, but she wasn't able to separate the literal meanings underlying the constructs that bled over into the Dreamwalk from other people's subconscious minds, from the symbolic images that were embroidered onto them.

Details notwithstanding, the pervasiveness of them suggested that something was happening out in the rest of the world, something big. The last time she'd experienced anything on this scale was years ago, when Apocalypse had recruited his army of mutants and people began dying all over New York. That wasn't a thought that Dreamer wanted to dwell on, though, as she wasn't at all sure she could survive another experience like that.

She was quite sure she didn't want to.

All of that notwithstanding, though, it was relatively clear that something big was going on, and whatever it was probably didn't care whether she liked it or not. And she'd learned the hard way during the Apocalypse that hiding in the dark from the monsters did no good at all. Monsters thrived in the dark.

She wasn't going to find out what was going on, let alone deal with it, while hanging around alone in the Dreamwalk. It was time to step outside.

Now...

Dreamer had been aware of the increasing conflict between Callisto and the Mutants Formerly Known as X-Factor for quite a while, though she didn't really understand the cause of it. This wasn't really anything new, though; she often didn't understand Callisto's reasons for things. After a decade of living as a Morlock, though, Dreamer could not deny that their leader had a knack for doing the right thing on the basis of information that nobody else could make sense of. So while she hadn't really understand why the Morlocks were exhibiting such hostility to X-Factor (after all, it wasn't like either group was using any sizable fraction of the available living space underground), she had continued to support Callisto and intended to continue doing so.

Then Ink had returned from a trip to "visit" X-Factor to report that apparently nothing was as it seemed, and most particularly that went for Callisto herself. That went a long way towards explaining things, but for every explanation it seemed two new questions had arisen. Regardless, it seemed clear that another threat was arising, and that the brief peaceful period that the Morlocks had enjoyed in the aftermath of the Purifier attacks had finally come to an end.

So when X-Factor came knocking on their door, including Humberto the former Morlock, Dreamer wasn't too surprised, and she manifested her dream-form not too far from them. If they were going to be hostile, after all, better that they attack her first, since in her dream-form she had yet to encounter anything that could harm her. And if they weren't hostile, better that she be among the first to greet them, since many of the other Morlocks were decidedly volatile. More so than usual, under the circumstances, which was saying something. Ink showed up, a towel preserving a vestige of modesty, and for a moment Dreamer was worried that he would demonstrate her concern; but it quickly became clear that he was just teasing and she returned her attention to the bewildering claims their visitors had made.

"Invading the Earth?" she echoed incredulously. "Abducting cities? That's..." she paused. She had been going to say it was hard to believe, but on second thought she decided against it. Under the circumstances, it seemed rather an absurd thing to say. "Yeah, OK," she said instead, blowing out a ring of entirely hallucinatory smoke, "sure. I'll buy it. But what do you expect us to do about it?"

Spider physiology
Sleep had been evading him, each sound sending his nerves into overtime causing him to quiver and shake with combat readiness. Never one to suffer from shell shock, Anansi was resting in his cranny with knives resting in his hands as he reclined in his hammock. The fight had taken much out of him, leaving him with the knowledge that the people he thought he knew and trusted were copies. It had completely thrown his view of his world into question. So just as he had started to drift off into sleep the only real comfort he had besides the woman that he had met. Icy was her name and she had accepted him for what he was, not what he looked like but how he acted.

As sleep swept his tendrils toward his mind a loud booming voice echoed throughout the tunnels. Immediately the spider sat straight up, his 5 hands gripping the knives as one had been removed in the fight. Sheathing his knives Anansi stuck to the wall and headed towards the sound. His arms moving in concert he quickly came to the location to find a giant man with an axe, the women with the glowing knives and Reptil. Crawling down the wall he came to stand on the floor beside Ink. One of his eyes was bandaged and the missing gap were an arm should be made him feel weak. Bruises, scraps and cuts covered his hardened skin, which was rare for the spider.

Ink was tired as well and it had made the tattoo covered mutant angry. The spider was just tired, tired of everything. "A barbarian? Yeah that's a great way to say hello to someone," he said as he stood by Ink looking at the group that had came into the tunnels "An invasion force eh? Yeah, considering I was fighting copies of my friends and fellow family members that doesn't surprise me one fucking bit."

Dagger put her hands on her hips as a few Morlocks came out of the woodworks to greet them. It seemed like their numbers had been thinned after their last battle. Her eyes moved to Ink, who she recognized from the battle. He was the guy she had attempted to save before that Skrull had royally screwed her up. Tandy offered a nod and a smile, glad to see that he made it. The others that came in, she looked to as well and as they voiced their concerns, she suddenly felt like she was the only one of the three of them that would be taken seriously.

Reptil was one of them in the past and it was anyone's guess on what the Morlock's opinion of him was. And Morph... well... just look at Morph. He was doing his best impression of Conan the Barbarian while the Earth was under attack.

Tandy rolled her eyes away from Morph and looked towards the three that had shown up, as well as any other stragglers that happened to come along.

"Well," Dagger said, clearing her throat and stepping forward. "Like I said... those things we fought with are invading the Earth in full force. There are ships over New York and all over the world. We were sent here to get anyone that wants to fight those things, to push them back to where ever they came from and to let them know that we aren't going down easy."

She paused, unsure of whether or not her little speech was having any effect whatsoever, but she had to say something. Maybe after the battle they had, at least Ink would take her seriously. She had attempted to save him after all. The others, well maybe if she could convince one, the rest would follow.

"You can all stay down here if you want," Dagger said, looking to Ink specifically. "But when the day comes that you decide to go up and get a breath of fresh air or get a hankering for some New York pizza... it might not be there for you to enjoy. And chances are, they know you're all down here anyways, since Callisto was one of them. Me? I'm not going to sit back and just let that happen. So anyone who wants to follow, we are going up to the surface to regroup with Havok and the rest of X-factor, then we are going to resist these bastards to the best of our abilities."

Tandy looked at Dreamer next.

"So I don't expect you to do anything about it, I guess," she said, turning back towards the way she came. "But I'm going to go do what I can to help save the world and any of you that are willing and able should do the same. C'mon boys," Dagger finished, waving a hand towards Reptil and Morph before exiting the way that they had came.
