May 20th, Evening
Running parallel to Extremly Loud and Incredibly Close
Investigating the Crash Site

Charlavail Tennekoon was going to tick this one up as the most Fubar Sunday of the last 2000 years.

One too many psychopath wannabes had tipped the scales enough and Charla had left Sanctuary. While such inhumane behaviour was tolerated and even celebrated by some, she didn’t want to go back. When she had left, she did not expect a Sunday like this.

Mutant Town was proving to be quite pleasant after her week in Brotherhood Central. Some part of her somehow knew that it was real. The state supplied electricity and the weather, the deep down knowledge that there was no physical border, even the smog and crap in the gutter cleared away the artificial tang of Sanctuary. It wasn’t a conscious change but she somehow felt a little bit more alive when the distant wail of sirens filled the background.

The huge fricken Alien Invasion made her feel a damn sight more mortal. True to Sci-Fi fashion, all forms of communication relayed the Alien’s message of world domination and then panic ensued. Charla might have been flighty at times but when push came to shove, she kicked life in the shins and did it with a smile. She went and got prepared.

A brief raid of a sports goods store got her protection. Knee pads and elbow pads, reinforced gloves and body armour, a hockey helmet with face cage protected her noggin while an aluminium baseball bat promised a skull full of pain. She didn’t pay, there wasn’t any point, and well riots and looting. A small backpack held a couple bottles of water, a first aid kit and a few muesli bars. She had her main pack with all her gear already stashed. Now she just had to wait for the Alien bastards to make some small fuckup and she would drop on them like a bad rail grind.

The hours had seemed to drone on like rush-hour gridlock before some cheeky Mutant had blasted one of the Space invaders out of the sky. It was proof that the Aliens were not invincible gods, it gave hope and it gave strength to purpose.

Spoilsport rode off the roof of one building, down the side, and across the street front of another, avoiding the panicking crowds. Oh she knew that the invaders would have ray guns, space armor and what not and that hard and fast retaliation was bound to be on the way against the City that shot down one of them. She knew that she was going to have to be bloody careful but she was intent on busting some Alien skulls and shins before New York got vaporised. One way or another, those Space Orks were in for a world of hurt.

It was all going quite quickly the past few events, since the day that Moonbeam had revealed the existence of the alien race Skrull and how some of them seemed to have impersonated people that she knew, one of them had even looked like Mitch and had killed X-corp’s beloved leader, Hartley. Now the Skrull had revealed themselves to the world and had been rude enough to ‘kindly’ ask for people to simply surrender and become their pets or something like that, claiming that someone or something loved all of them. Well she didn’t care much for surrendering and specially not to creepy melon heads that had fooled her and made a joke out of her and everybody else. No. She intended on fighting, fighting until she didn’t have any breath left within her lunges. This may seem like one of those video games that she used to play with her cousin, back in Denmark at the cozy and safe little farm that her parents owned, but this wasn’t a game. This wasn’t just something you could turn off when it got too intense. This was reality, happening in real life and it was a matter of life and death.

She was slowly, quietly, walking down the streets towards the headquarters of X-corp, hoping that she could get in some contact with the team and maybe get some information about what was going on and what they were going to do now. She didn’t expect that anyone was there, but if she was lucky, she could get a hold of a radio and then get in touch with someone, preferably Lodestone or Moonbeam. She couldn’t explain why, but she got a feeling of authority from them and that was something she could appreciate. She hadn’t been in contact with her family since the Skrull had arrived either and she prayed to everything that there was to pray to; God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Spongebob, anything, that they were alright and safe. That her dad still had the gun on the wall and some bullets to protect them all, while she snuck her way through the streets of the new town that had become her home.

They were near, she could feel it in every fiber of her being, she could hear it on the streets, on the sounds and she was ready for them. She was ready to kill or be killed – preferably kill and she was prepared to do it all alone, though as she looked down the streets she saw that she may not have to do it alone. She formed an axe of ice in her hand out of the water molecules in the air, thanking God it hadn’t been long since the last time it had rained and in her other hand she formed a shield. It wouldn’t be able to take much, but she could recreate it, hopefully faster than they could hit and so she could keep herself somewhat safe. She hurried on quietly towards the person in front of her and stopped a few meters behind “Psst!” she said and looked to see if the person would hear her. “Psst! Hey!” She yelled in a whisper, hoping it would catch the person’s attention this time.

The new Area 51 wasn’t that far as the Icarus flies but the panicking crowds made a direct route on the street all but impossible. But then the street was only for people who let gravity get them down. Charla bent gravity to her will and rode the walls above the masses. Eight wheels ran on the sides of buildings, above shop fronts, above and below facades and even jumping over windows where necessary. Alleys got jumped over too, as if they were the smallest crack in the ground.

Spoilsport had the park in sight, the UFO just around the corner when the heatwave blasted everything into its constituent atoms. Suddenly what felt like a very reassuring length of metal became little more than a mouse in front of a combine harvester. She stopped in her tracks, sliding to halt and dropped down into a door way out of immediate sight. The blast had happened so fast, but not fast enough. The sight of innocent flesh being ripped from bones in a searing moment buried itself in Charlavail’s mind. It brought fear, a roaring bottomless fear of a shining moment of mortality being snuffed out in a black endless abyss. But with the fear came anger, rage, above all determination. She steeled herself against the horror, for the slaughter just been and the even mightier slaughter surely to follow. It was David versus Goliath, nay, it was the ant versus the Sun itself. But this ant and every other ant were mighty too and they would not roll over and die. She just needed a plan, that was all.

“Psst! Hey!”

“What? Oh hi.” Suddenly there was a wild blue chick with ice axe and shield behind her. Charla stared Ariel up and down for a brief moment, calculating. She looked back to the park around the corner of the building that hid the Aliens. “We need a plan or were gonna get our arses raped.” She was completely serious, any semblance of a blonde act a distant memory in the light of the situation. Charla had judged the blue girl to be on the same page as her and was not wasting any time on her usual frivolous chitchat. “Those mofos just vaporised a good hundred people. I’m gonna fucking make em pay! Name’s Charla by the way”. She emphasised her point by slapping her bat once in her palm.

((OOC note: Remember that skrulls are very trained warriors and they have a massive healing factor. This fight should take a while and harm them.))

It didn’t take long for Icy to realize that the person in front of her was a female, even though she was wearing a lot of what seemed to be ridiculous hockey gear, it was clear to see the long red hair and the feminine and quite small body. Ariel immediately felt the intensity from the woman and knew that though she was a little thing, she wasn’t to be messed with at this moment and so she just nodded at her fellow redhead and looked down at the streets with her unnatural blue eyes, scouting carefully. “You’re right. We need a plan. We need to find more allies, for starters. Not long from here, there’s a place called X-corp, there are mutants there trained to deal with these things. I’m one of them, but I’m somewhat new.” She said and pulled the girl with her against the wall as it seemed like there were some big and dangerous shadows down at the end of the streets.

She had to get to x-corp and fast, but if she could get someone to follow her and fight with her, it would be even better. “You can call me Icy.” She added and looked around “Okay, so here’s the plan: we sneak our way towards X-corp, we do not attract attention to ourselves. We do not, and I repeat: do not attack on plain sight. If we attack anything, they will have to be only two, so that we have a chance to kill them, before they can call for backup. The more we know about these freaky, oversized, mutated hybrids between melons and lizards, the better. We need to figure out their weak spots and I think I know some people who might have figured this out. Once we’ve been to X-corp and get some information, we bash them to see if they can bleed. Is that a deal?” she asked looking at Charla with intense eyes. Ariel wanted to kill these bastards more than anything as well. They had killed so many people that she knew and cared for, they were ruining her world and suppressing not only mutant but all of humanity as one and no matter what, this mutant girl wasn’t going to take it, they had cut her off from her family, friends and even worse; they had been the reason her date with Christian had been canceled. Something she had been looking forward to for a long time.

“Okay. Let’s go.” She said and sneaked out from their hideout against the wall and silently moved down the streets eyes open for anything suspicious, making sure not to step on anything. If she wasn’t already too cold to get chills, the screams of hopelessness and despair that filled the air would make her spine chill like crazy and have her hair rise giving her goosebumps. This was worse than when the purifiers attacked the city, “Okay, cost is clear down this path.” She said to Charla before running down to the end of it where she had seen those big and suspicious shadows. Nothing to see. She knew it, she had just been playing herself a trick, she had to learn not to panic. She turned towards the girl before feeling something grab a hold around her throat, lifting her up. She looked into the green face of something she recognized as one of her enemy.

Where do you think you’re going? Surrender now. She loves you.

Ariel felt how her body slowly started to struggle for air, black dots started to form in front of her eyes and she let go of her ice weapons and grabbed a hold of the skrull’s arm pulling herself up, so that she wouldn’t be just hanging in the air “So…Much… for… unnoticed…” she managed to get out between her gasps for air. She had to admit, she was surprised of how strong the alien was, it was scary and it made her realize that she could at this moment die. She could at this moment be killed, just by a snap of his hand and then she’d have to join Hartley and everybody else she had once known, in a place she couldn’t even begin to imagine. The black dots started to fill her whole sight and she felt how the strength in her arms started to leave her, she started to turn down the temperature as much and quickly as she possibly could in a last attempt to get out of the guy’s grip, but it didn’t seem to work. He was better at handling cold than normal humans, he was more durable. If she was lucky she had slowed him down a bit, by making his joints cold making Charla able to get away from him. Then her death wouldn’t be in total vein, but for some reason she didn’t really expect the girl to be the kind that would run away. “Let… go… of… me…” she half ordered, half begged as the panic of death started to take over. She wasn’t ready to die, not yet.

She felt how he moved his arm with her and suddenly it felt like she was flying, it was like nothing could touch her, it was all good and nice. Normally she’d have that nauseating feeling of getting hurt soon, but she didn’t. She was in a state between being unconscious and being fully awake. Colors danced as her eyes were closed and she felt how her lunges suddenly filled with air, just before something brutally stopped her flying state, sending a crushing hurt through her body, knocking the air right out of her lunges again.
The skrull had tossed Ariel to the side like a simple and dirty cloth and she had swung right into a wall her left elbow taking most of the hit, right before her back and the back of her head had hit it. Pain went through her, making her dizzy and she knew she was about to puke if she didn’t concentrate. A scream of pain left her lips, unable to control it and she fought to open her eyes and see what was happening.

She already knew what had happened to her. Her left arm was broken, she probably had a concussion and judging from the warm and sticky feeling that ran down her neck, she was bleeding from where her head had met the wall. She noticed she had accidentally bit her cheek and blood was filling her mouth, not helping the fact that she was trying hard not to puke. She spit out the blood and looked up at the blurry image of the green person that stood a few feet away from her. “Bastard…” she mumbled wiping the blood off her lips with the back of her right hand. Why hadn’t he killed her? Why had he simply tossed her to the side? Had Charla charged him or had something else and more dangerous caught his attention?

It was like a movie, and that was George's thought when he opened one blurry eye and looked around. He slept on the roof of one the numerous abandoned apartments around Mutant Town, the place that was ground zero for so much weirdness tended to have a high turnover rate. When the huge ships appeared in the sky, he laid back and watched. They were illusions. Gotta be. Having no tv, radio, computer, or cellphone, he was completely cutoff from the accompanying message. You know that saying about Not getting the memo? George didn't get the memo.

Maybe it was another one of those X-Men movies, he'd been in the one about the Cuban missile crisis; he was in the background of one of the crowd scenes and waved at the camera. Later, he'd snuck into a movie theater and watched it. Not bad. But he was pretty sure most of it was made-up. And that a psycho like Magneto probably hadn't been thrilled about it.

He was blissfully unaware, smoking the remnants of ... well, let's just it wasn't tobacco... when some crazy fuck shot one of the illusions and... holy fuck, it went down.

"Crap."

He was no hero. He didn't run into burning buildings. Whether the ships and soldiers were Magneto's or Doom's or that Apocalypse-guy coming back for a second bite of the Big Apple, it wasn't his business, not when the city had people like Hartley and her crew to defend it, right? Yeah, he missed the memo about that to; gotta talk to whoever was handing out those memos.

George was heading down. Way down. Down into the safety of the tunnels that ran underneath the streets. He'd lifted the manhole cover and was about to toss it aside when the scream of pain made him nearly jump out of his skin. "Shit," he breathed between his teeth, his head whipping around toward the source. Not his problem. He wasn't a hero. He wasn't. Shitshitshitshitshit "Crap." He was a bum and a lazy goodfornothing, but if he didn't at least try, he knew that it would haunt him, and he couldn't go on being him anymore. And then there was Hartley, he felt she'd be disappointed if he turned away from someone in need. His elastic fingers stretched around the manhole cover and carried it along; you never knew when big chunk of metal would in handy.

"Hey!" He barked out the snappy comment when he saw the green... uhm...thing throw the blue girl. "That's a real douche-move, dude." And in a fluid motion that testified to many hours of Frisbee fun on the beach, George let fly with the manhole cover. If he'd been Captain America, he'd have had it ricochet off a dozen other enemies before rebounding back into the main one. And that would undoubtedly be what happened in George's future retellings of the story, but in reality, the metal disc hit the douche-guy in the gut, knocking him back and into a wall. Staggered, it went down, but not out.

In a black tee-shirt that had faded to grey and the orange words of band so worn away as to be unreadable, and his purple knees showing through worn jeans with ratty holes at the knees, he was hardly anyone's idea of a savior. He closed the distance between them and, "whoa... hot," the words slipped out as he did a double-take at the woman in the hockey mask and pads, suited up and ready to rock. "I mean," he corrected himself, "nice bat. Wanna use it?"

He made a fist and in seconds, it expanded until it looked like a giant cartoon sledge hammer on the end of George's arm. The skrull was just getting back on its feet when the giant sledge hammer slammed into its body, pinning him to the ground but leaving its head exposed.

“Icy huh? Cool. Ok, we get to this X Corps, get intel and recon, good plan. Deal.” Charla let Icy take the lead, gentling rolling after her. Any information on these Aliens would improve their own survival chances while diminishing the invaders. They weren’t far gone when the pair of sneaky hunters became the prey. It was a massive humanoid, green skinned, armoured and every inch ugly. Before she even had a chance to shout to her companion, it had picked Icy up by the throat and proceeded to throw her against the alley wall. Charla her self was frozen in shock and fear, the bat in her hands forgotten.

So much for Plan A: Beat the fuck out of the Aliens. But then...

Professor Plum, in the alley, with the manhole cover.

It wasn’t Charlavail who came to Icy’s rescue but some new purple guy who played Frisbee with manhole covers. Seeing the Skrull get hit in the guts with a hundred odd pounds of steel was enough to reboot her brain and send her back into the fight with vehemence. As Mr Purple reaplied the hurt, she skated forward, gripped the bat tight and put some windup on the coming swing. As her skates passed the skrull’s head, the bat came down in a monumental golf swing driven by every ounce of strength her lithe form carried. Aluminium met alien skull with a crunch, the force enough to halt her forward momentum. The bat came away from the impacted skull, rose high in the air and was driven down with exactly zero mercy and one hundred percent DIE! The bat rose and fell twice more with every hit full of hatred. “DOUBLE TAP MUTHAFUCKER! DOUBLE TAP!” Charla screamed at the first alien she had ever met.

Once sated with her carnage, eyeing the remains of a cranium with satisfaction, she nodded her thanks to the purple newcomer and slid over to Icy’s prone form. She knelt down on one knee and examined her new friend’s injuries. She put down the goo smothered bat and ripped off her gloves and threw them down as well. Gently she placed her right hand behind Icy’s head and felt the bloody area that had hit the wall. “No obvious dents, that’s good, means your brain’s intact. Swelling has started though so might have some wicked bruising later.” She wiped the blood from her hand on her shirt without a second thought. Charla then held Icy’s face in her hands for a few seconds looking intently into Icy’s eyes for signs of shock or concussion. “Reckon you’ll be alright. Don’t worry, I’ve had a rough and ready first aid course, need to as pro level skater.”

She looked around to their hero, somehow she had already assumed he would join their little warband, and then to the fallen skrull with the smooshed head. She picked up her gloves and put them back on. “Alright, we need to go and fast before another alien...” Charla was interrupted by some alien around the corner yodelling for his pal. He wasn’t likely to be happy to see his pal with headache incarnate. “Well shiiit” Charla scooped up her lucky bat and went vertical up the wall Icy was crumpled on. She went up and around, heading for about the third storey and the corner the Alien sounded like he was coming too. When the Alien rounded the corner, she was gonna drop the bass so fucking hard.

It wasn’t long after their group had separated that Subterranea was flooded with the cacophony of dangers abound. From their location a few feet beneath the asphalt and concrete of the New York streets, Ink and Dagger could hear the telltale sounds of pandemonium that was practically a lullaby to their kind at this point. They’d been sent to work crowd control, tasked with protecting civilians and discouraging looters. The irony wasn’t lost on the former deviant, but he was no longer that moronic, attention-seeking boy. Not predominantly, at least.

The trickle of light streaming in from the surface up ahead marked their exit – Mutant Town was just overhead. “Almost there. Ready for round two?” he muttered, turning to face Tandy before mounting the tarnish-encrusted ladder. He could hear the faint sounds of a scuffle and a distant scream. As he moved to lift up the manhole cover, a flood of light poured into the tunnels as a violet-tinted hand wrenched the metallic disk from its resting spot. The ink-etched man nearly lost his grip but was able to catch himself, climbing out of the darkness in time to view a Skrull get its head caved in by what appeared to be a Looney Toons reject and a midget hockey player.

“The fuck?”

Ariel looked up as it sounded like her attacker was in pain and she narrowed her eyes to focus on what was going on, slowly regaining the ability to see clearly again, “Wha-?” she was about to ask what was happening when suddenly the skrull was slammed into the ground next to her by something big and purple and she observed calmly as her new teammate killed it with much rage and a bat. Her attacker was without a doubt dead by this point and she took a deep breath to gather her strength to get up and thank her savior, as her eyes landed on a purple looking man. She smiled gratefully towards him and was about to stand up when Charla had rushed over to her. “I’m fine. It takes a bit more than a small meeting with a wall to get rid of this mutant.” She smiled reassuring and grabbed a hold of Charla’s hand with her right one and pulled herself up on her legs.

“Wow…” she said and stood still for a moment, somewhat swaying a bit as the dizziness hit her the moment she stood up straight. “Remind me never to be in close combat with the oversized mutated melons again…” she said and rubbed her head with her right hand. She too heard the voice of another one of the skrulls and bit her lip searching her brain for a plan. Watching as Charla crawled up a wall reminded the cold mutant about Anansi and a smirk formed on Ariel’s face as an idea formed in her head and she turned towards her mysterious savior. “Can you do that trick with the manhole lid again?” She asked him in a whispering voice, while ripping a piece of her jacket apart and tie it around her neck for her left arm to rest in. “Charla, once he comes around jump him and keep him distracted so I can freeze him to the ground. That way out friend here has a clean shot.” She said and hoped the idea would work, she didn’t need to get in close combat with those big things again and they all needed it to be quick and work as a team so that the skrull wouldn’t gain the upper hand.

Ariel looked at the water on the ground and smiled to herself, it wasn’t enough to freeze the thing fast, but with the molecules in the air and her duplication powers she would be just about capable of freezing his feet solid to the ground fast enough for Charla not to be hurt. Even with a broken arm, she had gotten quite good at freezing things solid, as long as it didn’t need to be a work of art. She stood still against the wall listening to the footprints that came nearer and nearer and she judged that they were no more than two meters from where they were all standing. She needed to get to the X-corp. She needed to find her team and be sure that her newly formed Alien beating team were safe and as Ariel just waited for the next attack, she didn’t notice the newly arrived mutants.

So the world was being invaded by aliens that took over by replacing people and then switching them out with copies. Yeah that made perfect sense, but than again the spider had seen it happen. The leader of the Morlocks as well as many of his comrades had been replaced and it had thrown them all for a loop once the aliens had revealed themselves. Though the most profound thing was where were his friends? They had been taken and no one knew where. It was really kinda scary knowing that these aliens had showed up and just replaced his friends without anyone knowing.

It wasn't until that people from X-Factor showed up and told the Morlocks the truth about what was going on did they understand. The choice to fight or to stand back and watch the world burn. Anansi for one was one not to sit back and not fight. He had joined up right there to fight back these bastards. There was no way he was going to sit idle and let his home be destroyed. That was the reason that he was currently following Tandy and Ink up to the surface, to see what was going on topside.

He had his knives on him and he hoped he wouldn't have to use them. As they came to the manhole and it was pushed back, he turned his eyes to avoid the sudden brightness before following Ink up onto the surface. His eyes scanned the situation and one of them landed on a blue skinned women who he recognized as Icy. "The fuck indeed," he echoed back to Ink before slowly drawing his knives.

"Whoa, that's pretty hardcore," he said as he watched the hockey player crack the thing's noggin like an egg. He flashed her a grin that he'd intended to be cocky and suave and maybe a little dangerous, but probably looked more goofy than anything else. Thankfully, there wasn't much time for anything else and before he could blink, she was flying up the side of the building; and he was definitely NOT staring at her ass as she went up and disappeared over the roof.

"Uh... yeah, sure, you got it," George said to Miss Blue with the busted arm, reluctantly tearing his eyes away from the roof. His arm stretched out to an impossible length and took up the trusty manhole cover like it was an old friend. Clobbering the... whatever they were... with a big chunk of iron worked once, why not a second time. "Don't fix what ain't broke, right?" And took his place, waiting for his cue.

The indicator of a downed soldier blinked in the skrull's helmet. It was unthinkable that one of its brother could be taken down by this apes. It crept forward in a predatory crouch, its weapon holstered but its sharp, talon-like fingers ready and eager to rip into the inferior creatures who had unjustly reigned over the planet for too long. It would hunt them. Catch them. Tear them apart and grin at their final shrieks of pain. The stupid animals. In the same instant, it felt its feet frozen to the ground something landed heavily on its back, and its finely honed skrull battle-instincts kicked in.

"The fucker ducked," George gaped as the skrull crouched, letting the 100 pound disc sail over it. "Oh crap! Time for a Plan B. Does someone got one?" George called out as his fists morphed into giant sledgehammers again. That was his Plan B, if nothing better came along - hit it till it stops moving.

"Test, test, these things work?...Any other outbound X-Teams, if you copy, head back towards the park near the XFI BRownstone. We have a situation and we need to lock it down before it gets worse."

Those words from Karma had sounded in Tandy's ear not long after they had set out on their task. She was with Anansi and Ink, two Morlocks who she had fought alongside not too long ago. Honestly, there wasn't much fighting on her part on that occasion. After Plague had poisoned her or whatever it was, Tandy had been knocked out of the fight and woke up shortly after most of the action was over. Whatever the Skrull had done to her, it faded away upon the things death.

Since Ink and Anansi knew the way around the city in a way that was unlike any other person, she let them take the lead as they moved towards Mutant Town. Good to their word, it hadn't taken them very long to reach their destination since they traveled underground. She paused as the bottom of the ladder that led up to a manhole cover and stood beside Ink, looking upwards towards the light. He had asked her a question.

"Yea, I'm ready," Dagger replied without hesitation, even though she really wasn't sure. She took a step back and allowed Ink and Anansi to move up the ladder first and then she followed behind, finding the steep vertical incline of the ladder difficult to scale. Was she really made out for this hero stuff? Climbing a ladder was hard enough, especially as tired as she was, but now they were expected to go up there and meet whatever was happening head on. Could she do that?

Dagger reached the top of the manhole and put a hand on either side of it, pulling herself up to sit on it's edge for a moment as Ink asked, in an expletive way, what was going on. She watched as a small amount of chaos went on, with several mutants putting up a fight against some Skrulls that had survived the crash.

"Havok," Dagger said, reaching up and touching the communicator in her ear. "We are on... I think the west side of the crash? There are civilians engaging Skrulls, I'm not sure how many there are," she continued, getting to her feet quickly and looking around in the attempt to survey the situation. She was horrible at large scale things like this, wasn't she? Dagger finally continued as she made a decision, "We are going to engage the Skrulls and protect the population. Come back with any orders you have... over.."

She had no idea how to talk into a mic properly. Hopefully that worked.

"Ink, Anansi, let's get to work," Dagger said as she stepped up beside them. "Protecting lives is first priority... we can worry about everything else after that."

""Oh crap! Time for a Plan B. Does someone got one?" the purple mutant said not far away.

Dagger immediately reacted, and threw both arms out as if she was throwing something. Several feet away from her, light daggers suddenly sparked to life and soared through the air, spinning only one time before planting themselves into the Skrull. One struck it in the center of the chest and then the other struck the Skrull right between the eyes, causing it to turn it's head and fall backwards. It shook violently for a moment and then was still.

"Everyone needs to get out of here!" Dagger said loudly, a light dagger forming in either one of her hands.

The enemy target entered the firing range and Charla shifted her grip on gravity. Where the wall had for a few moments felt like down, it now became a downward ramp. Charla rode it, adjusted into a crouch and leapt. Her front wheels hit the back of the Alien just a moment after she crashed her baseball bat into the creature’s helmeted head. Clearly the Alien’s armour had yet to meet its match as for all of Charla’s aggression, her impact barely registered in the creature’s consciousness.

A quick wrench upon gravity assisted Charla’s jump to safety as manhole come frisbee sailed over the creatures head and below her wheels. She was about to evaluate the possibility of going for a knee cap when the creature fell anyway due to quick actions of a dagger thrower. Suddenly Mutants, Mutants everywhere.

Between alien ray guns that disintegrated people by the hundred, manhole cover Frisbees and now magic daggers, Charla’s pet bat was beginning to get jealous, speaking of which… Charla knelt down next to the fallen skrull and examined its alien sidearm. The holster was nothing fancy, simple practicality and nothing more. The gun which she tugged free was similar though sized for someone with much larger hands; the dangerous end was obvious even to her. She hefted the weapon uncertainly due to its bulk and weight, pointed it at the dead skrull and squeezed the trigger. Nothing. Maybe it didn’t seem to work for her human hands.

Charla finally turned to face all these new heroes, her eyes scanning the faces through the cage that protected her pretty face. She felt like she was part of her brother’s gang again and it felt good, “Anybody want to loot the fallen mob? I think I’m the wrong class to use the drops.” Though her tone was somewhat light, the determination she felt still hung from her words. Two downed skrull was hardly adequate vengeance to sate Justice.

Dagger’s assault was swift and effective, and though he’d seen her in the thick of battle once before, Ink couldn’t help but be impressed by her still. With the immediate threat dealt with, it was time to start wrangling the non-combatants toward the safety zones, though the tattooed man doubted the security of any structure against the might of an alien army. He’d seen the films. Short of an impossibly lucky shot by a plucky young rookie against the mother ship, one that resulted in a domino effect of explosions that would make Michael Bay soil his pants in ecstasy, their chance at a victory here was slim.

“Nice job on the headshot, Dagger,” he declared with an impish grin.

“Anybody want to loot the fallen mob? I think I’m the wrong class to use the drops.”

Turning to face the diminutive hockey player, he scoffed before uttering, “Riiight, well it’s best to put that down now in case it blows up in our faces. This isn’t a game where we can reload our save if our heads end up splattered across the pavement because you pressed the wrong button there, cuz.”

While he’d ultimately failed his leadership courses at Xavier’s (though technically he’d quit) Ink still retained the vestiges of whatever knowledge they’d drilled into his impressionable young mind during his time there. At best, he was a pseudo-soldier. At worst, he was a pretentious moron who thought he knew what to do after half a course’s worth of “Teamwork and Leadership 101” training. Admittedly, he felt that he rested somewhere comfortably among the middle.

“Everyone needs to get out of here!”

“She’s right. Skulking in alleys isn’t the safest little pastime even when there aren’t a bunch of Jolly Green Giant wannabes out for blood. This isn’t the time to get your kicks and live out some geektastic fantasy that’ll get you zapped with kill lasers and shit. You took down a baddie so pats on the back all around, but we really have to blow the fuck outta here.”

He surveyed the ragtag group before turning to Anansi and then Dagger in turn, letting out a sigh before continuing on.

“Okay then... Reject Squad! Assemble!” he shouted. “Right… So where’re we going?”

It was perhaps not all too hard to see why he had failed his courses.

The skrull quickly turned the corner and Ariel worked quickly and with swift movements of her right not-so-broken-because-of-stupid-and-insanely-strong-green-faced-alien hand and quickly ice froze the giant’s feet to the ground and crawled up to around his knees by the help of her new friend’s great distraction and now she just waited for her purple savior to break the neck of the alien with his manhole.
Of course that didn’t work, why would it work? Her plans never worked, not when she trained with the x-men back when she went to the school there and not now. They were fucked if someone didn’t think quickly about something to do and for a change her brain didn’t seem to want to work with her. So she just kept on making sure he was secured to the ground and wouldn’t come barging towards him, though it seemed like he was starting to crack her artwork of ice. What seemed to be glowing daggers flew passed her and hit the skrull perfectly and a smile crept over her lips as she saw him fall and she gladly let the ice break under the weight of his dead body. “Nice.” She simply said before turning towards the person who had miraculously showed up just in time to save their skin. It seemed like today was just her lucky day – everything considered.

Her eyes first landed on the lady, a beautiful blonde whom Ariel, by the posture of the woman, judged to be the one who had killed the giant alien and she nodded gratefully towards her. “Thank you.” She said before her eyes ran over the man next to her. Tattooed, boyish look on his face, he seemed familiar to her, but she couldn’t quite put her fingers on it, maybe he had been one of the students she never really talked to at the institute? Maybe she had seen him on the streets before? It didn’t matter, he was there and she expected that he too would become a part of their small group. While they spoke, Ariel listened as her eyes ran over the third and last newcomer. It took a while for her to realize who she was looking at. Two set of extra arms, a lot of short and dark hair on all si- no... there wasn't six... there were only five... five arms where there used to be six, a body she recognized and as she finally looked at his face a smile of recognition bloomed on her face. Christian. The guy she had been supposed to go on a date with. “Anansi…!” she said quietly so that she wouldn’t attract any attention from any skrulls that might be near.

“Okay then... Reject Squad! Assemble!”

The guy with the tattoos that she suspected to have seen before shouted and she sent him a strict glare ”Tone it down a bit, are you trying to let every single fucking alien in the area know we’re here!?” she hissed in a whisper at him and rolled her eyes. “I agree we have to get out of here. Out of here and over to the x-corp to get a little information about what the hell is going on. Someone got one of the ships shot down from the sky, it was a lucky shot, but it means a lot of badass ninja warriors from space are quite angry and hard to kill all around the place.” She said and looked over at Charla, “This is not the time to go around and hide, hoping someone else is going to save the day. But we have got to be sneaky and fast. They have the strength…” she said and looked at her arm and the blood on her right hand from the back of her head that was bleeding. “…So we need the element of surprise and we need to work together. All of us…” she knew she was stating the obvious and she wasn’t even sure that she was telling them or telling herself. “The name is Icy, by the way and thank you for the quick save.”

He watched with awe as they tried to take down the skrull that had appeared. While they did manage to distract him, ultimately it was Dagger that ended up dropping the alien with knives of light. It quickly dropped to the ground frozen down by Ariel. His eyes looked at her and then to her injuries. Her arm hanging limply at her side as well as the cut on her head made him wince internally. Yeah he head lost an arm and had a couple bruises, but his would heal. Hers seemed like it would alot of time to heal. He stood off to the side as he listened to the idea of what was going to happen. The plan seemed to be that they were going to head to a building and look for Ariel's team.

One of his eyes glanced at the down ship in the distance, the hull sticking up like a obelisk amongst the buildings. Nodding subconsciously at the suggestion that there would be many many more of the aliens running through the streets, Anansi realized that he didn't have many knives on him. Having seen how many people were needed to take down only one of those things. That fact alone made him feel very weak in the presence of the rest of the mutants gathered.

His only affected how he looked and not much else, despite being super agile and being able to avoid any attacks that they threw his way. Crossing his arms, he stood sullenly off to the side awed by the power of those around him. As Ariel took the lead he nodded and waited for any direction that they would be going in. It seemed like it would be a bad idea to be caught in the open when the aliens could come from anywhere.
