Sunday. Sunday was normally a day where people went to church, enjoyed their hobbies, cleaned their houses, bought groceries. Yes, Sunday was the best day during the week for most. Relaxing and stress free and if the weather permitted, a great day for a barbeque. The mutant known as Darkstar did not get to enjoy said Sunday, as she was once again an active government agent and they did get weekends off. Especially as of late, the world seemed to be spinning faster then usual, full of bizarre and dangerous scenarios and luckily these were the types of situations where Laynia really shined. She had been up in the sky when she first saw the smaller craft, the Soviets had meddled with flying saucer technology but this was nothing that she had seen before. The larger ships in the sky were things of pure science fiction, true behemoths in the sky.

This craft seemed to be the real deal so she gave it some space, it wasn’t like she was going to go demand that they pull over their intergalactic traveling machine, so she hung back. Dressed her in black uniform, aside from her hair, she blended fairly well into the back drop. Looping around the Statue of Liberty, flying what appeared to be effortlessly through the black, star speckled sky. The cities street lights and signs illuminated the ground below her, given the angle of Laynia’s view see did not see what exactly happened to the alien craft. It appeared that it had been shot down, but she couldn’t see a soul and decided, despite the danger, to get in closer to the situation.

As the ship bounced off of buildings, causing bits and pieces of damaged structure to plummet downward, towards the city streets, Laynia decided the time for action was now. The shockwave set her flying back in the air before regained her composure, she could hear the pandemonium coming from the streets, screams of fear and some of pain. She couldn’t help to feel sorry for the people who were powerless to do anything, she could help them. She would help them. Darkstar swooped in, landing softly on her feet and immediately went to work, damage control you could call it. The alien craft was a good 150-200 meters away from where she was stationed currently, obviously it wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Crowd control would be her first step, she rummaged through rumble and damaged cars, freeing people who were luckily enough to be inside when entrances caved in and alive to tell the tale. Using her powers to lift anything to big for herself, spectators were in awe as she lifted large pieces of granite and concrete that were once parts of building. She placed the wreckage into a neat, but heaping pile and slowly progressed towards the craft.

“Everyone needs to move back. Move back, please everyone. Stay calm and move away.” standing in the middle of the hectic roadway, herding civilians away from the crash site and attempting to set up a perimeter around the craft. She desperately needed some back up here and when a couple NYPD approached her, she immediately regretted thinking such foolish thoughts.

“Ma’am…” The officers approached Darkstar slowly, with their hands close to their holsters. She could just see how terrified these two officers were. Luckily for them, she was the last of their worries. She relaxed her body language but her expression remained firmly calm.

“I am Darkstar. I am an agent of Shield. I am from this Earth and I am here to help, so you won’t need your weapons.” She extended a hand to shake, an offer of peace and trust. The braver of the two police was still uncertain of her presence, but he made the right choice in shaking her hand and bringing this to a professional level. “If you gentlemen can keep the crowd under control and radio some paramedics for the wounded, I’m going to go check this out” And she had pulled rank on them, it was a good feeling.

She was used to working on her own and when it was required, she knew it was only a matter of time until the real backup arrived; she closed her proximity to the ship to a mere 50 meters and took in the finer details of the craft. Laynia had seen enough American movies, aliens seldom came in peace.

Ever since the ships started appearing over cities, SHIELD had been scrambling to keep up communications with every known military and government force around the globe. They needed to compare notes to see just how far the reach of these skrulls expanded. They threatened the lively hood of people, but had not outright attacked yet. Their ships simply hovered in the sky waiting for the inevitable command. SHIELD was not about to let them take the first shot however. Finding the mothership was key. If they could talk to the one that was in charge maybe a peaceful solution could be reached. Reina highly doubted that these creatures wanted to talk. Judging from what they could pry from the mind of the skrull she had put in critical, it was nothing pretty. Negotiations would not work, but they had to at least try.

She was leaning toward the “blow them out of the sky” side of the argument. It had thinking just how much she had changed since joining up with the government institution. Action was never her first thought in the past. Speaking was what she had always been good at. It was what led to her being so popular on the airwaves and the internet. Now though, she was a strong agent that had seen quite an amount of action and knew from experience that knocking heads was the best route. The people, the maniacs they dealt with on an almost regular basis did not want to hear what they had to say. Reina had been sitting at her monitoring station observing what was going on in New York. She looked on with surprise as something hit one of the smaller ships with enough force to bring the thing crashing out of the sky.

“Holy crap! You all getting this?” They needed a team down there now before the aliens inside that thing popped out, assuming they were still alive. The people in the buildings it clipped were going to also need all the assistance that they could offer. Once the higher ups gave the say so, Reina was off toward a quinjet with a small team. No way was she going to be sitting this one out. Once they were armed up and ready to go, the jet shot out from the Helicarrier with all the haste needed. It did not take long for the jet to arrive on the scene a few meters away from the chaos behind the ship. By the looks of the playing field they were not the only ones on the scene. Several mutants, mutants that she had seen fighting for the safety of the people, one in particular that was supposed to be dead.

“Darkstar,” she called out upon spotting the woman already on the scene. Reina rushed over to her. “Let’s get these buildings clear as fast as possible while the X-people keep that thing busy.” She hoped that the ship was not damaged enough to explode cause if it was, their efforts would be pretty pointless. Reina rushed into one of the smaller buildings that had been hit by a wing of carrier. She searched the first floor of the three story complex for anyone that might have still been inside.

Darkstar stood for a couple more moments, just taking the whole scene in, Laynia appeared that she was in a dream world, as she was not in a state of panic or fear. She was calm, collected and thoroughly examining all the current details that were situated in front of her. The damaged alien craft was loitering directly in front of her, practically blocking any sort of safe exit that way. With her hands rested loosely on her hips, she turned to observe the alleyways that intersected with the main city street, they did indeed seem like a more viable path if one was needed.

Above her head, a few non-life threatening pieces of debris, concrete and stone, projecting a couple trapezoid like figures comprised of dark force to protect her head. She redirected the small pieces and rested them softly on the ground and dusted off her shoulders, Laynia was constantly pursuing an immaculate standard.

Ms. Petrovna smiled when she heard her codename, an odd thing considering it was a name given to her and after so many years, it just stuck. This was a new life, she reminded herself quickly, she was here to help, and this was the perfect situation to find people in need of it. As the woman approached Laynia, she stood a little taller and in doing so, she radiated professionalism and experience. Making eye contact and offering a quick, but soft smile "Feedback, I got a couple officers working crowd control". She gestured briefly to the two police she had originally spoken too, they were off in the distance currently. "That sounds like an excellent plan. Let us clear this place out before things get any more hostile..." Still after living in France and now the United States, Laynia’s originally accent had all but disappeared. Although at times, when she spoke certain words, you could hear her Belorussian heritage.

Working cooperatively was usually the best option, as the lovely Reina ran to a building on one side of the street, Laynia ran over to the opposite and without a thought, kicked in a door. It appeared that the shop owner had tried to board himself up to protect himself and his business. Temporarily he was stricken with shock, "Sir...Sir. You need to exit the building, please.” She then raised her hands up in an attempt to convey the fact that she was no threat, at least not to this shop owner.

With this gentleman cooperating and safely removed from his shop, Darkstar directed him away from the ship and moved on to another structure that had its front entrance entirely caved in. Once again, tapped into an extra dimensional force, it initially appeared as an almost gas like substance, lingering in the air like a fowl smoke. Laynia molded the strange matter into a plow like structure and with her powers, begun to remove the blockage from the doorway. She would encase the larger pieces in dark for energy, and simply lift it out of the way and even the smaller pieces that she could lift, did not give her much of a problem. Once the larger pieces were out of the way and the door frame visible, Laynia simply used some elbow grease and managed to pry one of the doors open. Frightened civilians fled out of the damaged structure, a former clothing store and into the action packed city street. On to the next one…

"Well, at least they didn't take out my Spider-sense. Or the camera. I'm not sure if saying I climbed a flag pole to get pictures is going to make much of a difference, so a little change of scenery might do a bit of justice to Peter Parker's career."

The camera in his hands clicked away, silent to all but himself. Perched on the top corner of the highest building in the area, the arachnid was poised to take those desperately needed photos. With the millions of cameras probably clicking away right now, it needed to be exceptional. Lightning, focus, angle, altitude, clarity, alignments, etc, etc, it wasn't just taking pictures, it was a science as well as an art form. Keeping it still and catching even the faintest changes in the light could make it or break a hundred dollars. He needed all he could get from that thrifty journalist JJJ and even if a speck of dust got on the lens, he could lose out on it.

Adjusting the lense of the lithe device, he focused it on one. It was a lower hovering ship, considerably smaller than the behemoths looming above the city blotting out the sun, but still sizable. A block, maybe two, he thought, but from where he was he wasn't sure.

New York had been forced to a stand-still. Traffic lights kept changing, but no one was really driving. Independence Day's theme was playing in his head when the shadow of the ships darkened the daylight sky. That woman-thing that appeared and played on all communication devices had cut it all off. New York, being heavily industrialized, was crippled without that. And as much as the traffic lights kept changing and all of that, the citizens would rather stand out of their cars and gawk at the heavens. It was a Mexican Standoff of galactic proportions. With the ultimatum of submit or die, something was bound to happen.

That something was going to set off a chain reaction that led to a full scale ground war. It wasn't hard to see that inevitability. When someone comes in claiming ownership, they either assimilated the locals -- which they seemed to be required to do -- or they wipe out the local population. Even Stephen Hawking agreed on that. If diplomacy failed, fighting back was going to be the only way to survive. Nobody wanted it, but it was going to be their responsibility to help one another as it always had been.

Some people, however, jumped the gun.

Amidst taking pictures, the camera was suddenly blinded by an explosion, the ship listing to the side, lulled back to earth by gravity. The groaning ship began to fall, crashing into buildings and tearing off the surface. It managed to avoid crashing into them directly, but already ruination was sparking fires.

Before it struck the first building, the arachnid was already swinging. His camera still clicked, taking pictures mid-flight ('flag pole' excuse here we come...) until he was sure he had enough pictures to please triple-J. Rolling in the air, vaulted by the momentum of his last swing, he replaced the compact device into its slot on his utility belt. Out of the roll, a web shot on to the next building and the arachnid tugged himself.

Flying through the city without having to deal with any of the traffic, Spider-Man passed through faster than a playboy driving two-hundred miles per hour without getting caught. Now if he only had a girl to impress... Heck, for all he knew he had three.

Thwip.

He passed low over the heads of the crowd that was regulated by SHIELD and local officers. Releasing his web, he was flung through the air until he came on to a building that had been scraped by the falling ship.

"I always envisioned an alien invasion more... pixelated," the arachnid mused, crawling into the gaping hole in the building. Luckily, this one had not been set ablaze just yet. He could see into a hallway, a mother with her three kids looking confused, seeing the arachnid crawling upside down on the ceiling.

"Uh... Hi. How many people are living here?"

"Just... Just us and two other families down stairs and one upstairs. The rest went to Sanctuary when they opened their doors."

"Sounds quiet. You kids being nice and quiet for your mom?"

The children nodded. But one of them spoke up, the oldest boy covered in hair, "Can you swing us out?"

He smirked behind his mask. "I know I say 'everybody gets one,' but you should save that for when you really need it. The building looks stable enough, you kids should use your own strengths to make sure everyone gets out safe. Even if you don't have powers like me, with great power comes great responsibility. That's what the Cub Scouts say, right?" He had no idea if that's what they said. "If you guys can do that, I'll come back and take a picture with you little heroes. That sound good?"

They nodded gleefully and began to urge their mother along.

"And don't take the elevator, it's not safe!" Creeping upstairs, the arachnid checked all of the rooms, but no one was home. Out of a window, the arachnid swung on to the next building, where a darkly glowing mutant had just opened a door from a store and let people out.

Dropping on to the ground, the arachnid 'hm'ed when he saw the SHIELD badge. "I know there's probably regulations against working with vigilantes, but if you promise to play nice and not arrest me I'll help you folks clean up this mess. If I know X-Factor and the other X-es, they'll be taking care of things down at the park where the thing crashed. I might just be a little more liberal about opening doors, though."

The SHIELD agent activated her powers right away. While the people had begun to evacuate on their own, they were not moving fast enough. There were still a number of people that remained behind. The wing of the ship had done quite a number on the east side of the second story; a large chunk of it was nothing but rubble. Reina ushered the people out of the exit trying her best to keep them moving in a calm and orderly fashion. “Come on people keep it moving. This way, this way.” It was hard to keep calm under such situations, but essential if no one was to be harmed. The side of the building that suffered the most damage started to creak and break, large chunks of concrete fell and rebar bent. The colors floating around for only her eyes showed that people on the third floor were in danger of collapsing through.

“Crap!” Reina pushed her way through the evacuating crowd and into the stairwell. As she came out on the top floor, she followed the sounds to the location of a family of three. The father and his son were close to the door while the mother was on the opposite side of the living room. This would not have been a problem if it weren’t for the section of floor she was at about to give way and the woman didn’t have an injured leg. “You two hurry and get downstairs.”

“N-no I’m not leaving my wife behind,” said the father.

“Listen to me. Get your son to safety I will take care of this. Nothing is going to happen to her I promise.” Reina was sure she could keep that promise. The floor began to creak threatening to give way at any second. “Go now!”

The man clutched his son and did as the agent asked. The moment he was out of harm’s way, Reina began heading toward the woman. The leg injury had happened prior to the crash since it was in a full cast.

“Please, help me,” she pleaded.

“Don’t worry, ma’am,” Reina slowed maneuvered across the damaged base. “We’re going to get out of here just fine.” A chunk of the floor fell away undermining her statement. The whole place started to shake and more and more pieces fell. No time to play it safe anymore. Reina ran over to the woman and pulled her up onto her back. The passageway back to the apartment door was a no-go. If they did not get out of there fast they were not going to make it. “You may want to cover your ears.”

“What?” the woman asked. “Why?”

Reina turned and released a short scream that shattered the window in front of them. A good running start followed by a leap of faith put them right outside and on a crash course with the pavement below. The moment they hit open air, Reina screamed again, this time directly down. The force being exerted on the ground allowed for a safe, steady decent. Once on her feet, Reina led the woman to her waiting family among the crowd.

“Oh thank God! Thank you so much, agent.”

“No thanks needed, sir. Just doing my job.” While she looked calm and confident on the outside, Reina was still surprised that that little technique had actually worked. As the police came to help out the crowd, she moved on to another building. She did not get far before catching the spectacle that was Spider-Man chatting with agent Darkstar. The Daily Bugle was a newspaper that she used to read on a daily basis and still did from time to time. The editor-in-chief loved to run stories on how much of menace the web-slinging hero was, stories that didn’t make much sense given the outcomes. “I don’t give two craps about you being a vigilante,” she said while approaching. “If you want to help, use that webbing of yours to reinforce the support beams of that building over there before it collapses into the street. Darkstar keep doing what you were doing. I’m going to help get the crowd under control.” And with that she was off.

“Yes…Yes. Head to the police barricade.” she pointed to the line of police down the hectic city street.

Subconsciously, the lovely Laynia Petrovna struck a brief pose as the web slinger dropped down to street level, for a moment she thought he was a potential threat. Of course like many others, Laynia recognized the costumed individual as Spiderman, she had never seen him in person up until this moment. Perhaps a little star struck, much like a young child could be, she gave her head a quick shake and brought Laynia back down to planet earth. Vigilante, the word itself just had such negative connotation and for Laynia she didn’t this man in front of her as anything but a hero. He was here, much like Darkstar and other government employees present at the crash site. They all chose to put their own lives on the line to protect others and she felt like it was justified that individuals who were blessed with tremendous abilities to stand up and make a difference, a duty to fight the evil in this wicked world.

“Given the situation we have on our hands, we can probably let it slide.” She even offered a friendly, half smile. Much of the time she felt more soldier than civilian, she really needed to lighten up from time to time. “I am certain any help would be greatly appreciated.” Really though, unless it was a direct order Laynia wouldn’t give the wall crawler any trouble. As she reconsidered her words, her ears picked up a distinctive noise coming from Reina’s side of the street, this was exactly what Laynia was referring to and it was quite the noble feat.

She couldn’t help to admire Reina’s apparent calm demeanor and as she approached them, it seemed she agreed with Laynia on the vigilante front. Laynia offered the woman a nod as a ‘welcome back’ gesture, Darkstar was glad to see everything was under control and her people were okay. They would all work together and it was for the best, the building with the most damage was getting worse. Unfortunately, the mere scale of the crumbling mass was out of Laynia’s range but there may be ways around such limitations.

As Feedback, made her way back to the main crowd in a swift manner, Laynia turned her attention briefly to Spiderman. “You heard the lady, I’ll finish up evacuating remaining civilians and then I can meet you over there, I don’t know what we can do that will be a permanent fix.”

The final structures to search were the worst for wear, lucky most people in this area were mutants as they had a better chance surviving cave-in’s and other forms of destruction. It was just a worrisome thought to have anyone stuck in the damaged buildings. Laynia decided she would make a quick run through the building that was on the verge of collapsing; she would do one last clear and then provide aid back on the street. She focused her thoughts, closing her eyes momentarily as she summoned the darkforce. The energy itself collected around her hands, Laynia molded the extra-dimensional force into a large oval like shape. This was no ordinary construct and was in fact a strange, black hole like portal. When ready for use it shimmered, the blond mutant stepped into the portal and disappeared from sight, the portal itself closing after Laynia’s departure.

She returned back to the realm of Earth inside the hazardous building, pieces of debris and other building materials lay scattered and destroyed. The building itself was quiet and she didn’t hear any panicked or injured people. Once again, she summoned on her powers to forge a walkway when needed and Darkstar proceeded on her way examining the area for wounded or trapped individuals. Things were just getting started.

The proclamation of a truce had a fair bit of weight as far as he was concerned. People had been after his hide for years now and with SHIELD's numerous bad-guys/good-guys alignment switches to the public eye, what with all the "No powers in public" stuff, it made things rather difficult for any and all those who wanted to help the public. But, of course, this is why we can't have nice things. The man's always crackin' down on them.

Beneath his mask, the arachnid's brow raised at the stark, almost huffy-puffy approach of another SHIELD agent. She was pretty brash about not giving 'two craps' about working with wanted individuals despite being calm. It was probably the stress of occupation that had her spitting out orders to him. Really, like he hadn't already considered that? The whole wall-crawler bit must not have been in any field reports. It was a blessing that the ship had merely grazed most of the buildings rather than collide with them face-first. There was work to be done, sure, but the fires were relatively contained and the damage was minimal.

"Oh, right," he bapped a palm against his own forehead, feigning being dumbfounded at his own ignorance. "I forgot that volunteering to help was the same as being drafted. Awesome. Now I finally pay three months worth of rent. You guys get benefits too, right?"

Glancing at the original SHIELD agent he was making the little deal with, he sighed. "You too, huh?" He said bitterly. and turned away, releasing a web into the air. "Don't worry, those buildings will be fine. I've never lost a game of Jenga."

Architecture wasn't all too foreign to the young man beneath the mask. It was geometry with purpose, manifested physically with wood, iron, and steel. Angles and shapes, it was all pretty basic when you got down to it. A quick look and a bit of rational thinking, the major weak points of one building were discovered. A thick line of web shot from both wrists, binding together into a single strand. Carrying that, the arachnid crawled onto the roof and extended an arm, shooting another line to the building behind the one he was on. Connecting it, the strength of the untouched building would support the weakened one.

It would have to do for now, at least until the area was clear.

Repeating the process on three more buildings that were in danger of having structural damage or collapses, all in all things weren't too bad given the circumstances. Some actions just didn't really deserve narrative attention at this point. The evacuation of the buildings was well under way, the attention given to the buildings helped.

Attaching a few extra 'just in case' lines, the arachnid rolled up the glove on a hand. With the flick of a thumb and forefinger the mechanical web shooter opened and the empty cartridge of web fluid was removed and soon replaced with another.

"Hm... Being on a proper income would be helpful, actually. Then I can learn how to make this stuff grow on trees..."

Tucking the empty one away for disposal later, Spider-Man leaped from the building and made to move on to make sure there was no one else to evacuate.
