Density Manipulation, Flight
|
May 21st 2pm The day before, Xel'lirks and the other Skrulls of Utopia, barring their wayward Neonate...Nat'ren. With the Brood proving to be such a very dangerous and very real problem; a problem that could reveal their plans and true identities to the X-Men. He and the others had come to the conclusion that they should take the initiative and drop the charade themselves. The X-Men were foolish sentimentalists and would no doubt welcome them with open arms if they told them what they wanted to hear and "threw" themselves on their unending mercy; it had worked for their youngest after all, and Xel knew he'd been trained far too well to simply give in like he had. He truly hoped the young Skrull hadn't betrayed their cause; he'd have to be dealt with harshly if he had. A bridge to cross when they came to it. That was why Xia, Krl'ik, and Gr'tlyn were gathered in the war room, waiting for the select few they'd invited to their coming out party. Of course the pretenses of the meeting were fabricated, and he'd informed Cyclops that each of them had found a concentration of Brood deep in the Jungle during patrols; this was to get the details, or so they thought. In reality they'd be dropping their disguises and putting their improvised plan into action. As had become his custom in the past few days, he floated a few feet off the floor with his legs tucked under him; it was crunch time and all of their future plans depended on the success of this one. "Be prepared, everyone. We will defend ourselves if they refuse our offer of aid and attack us." He heard footsteps getting closer and turned to face them; those they'd invited entered, but the only one Rho was worried about was Cyclops. He was the General of the army that was the X-Men; his word was law and the others would follow his decisions without question and to the letter. This whole thing was riding on him, so he was the only one to be focused on. Of course Nat'ren got a glance as well. He'd failed in his initial mission and was now offering free aid to the enemy. Were they in essence doing the same thing; yes, but this was different. Still hypocritical, but such was the way of things. He locked eyes with the ruby red lenses attached the ever stern and determined face of the leader of the X-Men. He nodded slightly to him and the others as they entered and took a deep breath. "Cyclops; thanks for coming." He was silent for a while until all eyes were on him, and then his skin began to ripple and shift; growing scales and changing from a brownish hue to a reptilian green. His teeth sharpened to points and his eyes turned to a harsh, brilliant golden-yellow. An unseen change occurred as he stretched his legs and touched the floor; his density skyrocketed to levels that would allow him to weather any immediate physical assault just in case the X-Men were in an unforgiving mood. When his transformation was complete, he looked to the others and nodded for them to change as well, then back to Scott. "We have much to discuss." After everyone took them in, he continued. "Aside from Nat'ren, we are the Skrull vanguard who have infiltrated your ranks. I am Xel'lirks, that's Xia, Krl'ik, and Gr'tlyn...you've already met our naughty, naughty Neonate, Nat'ren." He began to pace, his footsteps gently thudding; a bit more and he'd have been shaking the floor. "Before you speak, let me make our reasoning clear. We have a mutual enemy in the Brood. They will stop at nothing to subjugate you and force you into the Broodmind...as for us, well they don't want us around at all." He stopped and looked at all of the humans, glared at Nat'ren for a moment, then back to Scott. "You probably already know what this is. We want to propose a truce; two groups working to the annihilation of the Brood, who are against life as both of our people view it. You can refuse our offer, but know that if you fail, this entire world is forfeit. Not one person will remain free from the Brood; Skrull or Human." So there it was; out in the open. They could accept their offer of aid, or turn it down and face the Brood and four very varied and powerful Skrulls from two fronts. Cyclops wasn't stupid; he knew he'd make the right choice. "Well, Scott? The enemy of my enemy is my friend?" |

Punches from the Punch Dimension
|
They were beginning the process of the uploading their minds into Danger's neural networks, back up for when the Brood Queen made her move, when she decided to activate the virus in their blood, turning them into something horrible, something out of the primal nightmares of man. He had no time for this, no time for any of this delay, anything that took him away from working on backing up his life and his identity. Scott Summers was not a man who didn't know who he was. Many had attempted to make him their own kind of man, and always, by sheer force of will, he had managed to retain enough of himself to survive it intact. This was not anything like that. This would ultimately be his own body turning on him, transforming against his will. He could already feel the process beginning, they all could. He felt like hour twelve of a twenty four hour flu, slightly feverish, achey, tired. Hank was already beginning to administer stimulants, decongestants, pain killers, fever reducers, to the children, but their supplies were limited and it was all to cope with the surface effects anyhow. This wasn't influenza, it was full on invasion within their cells... and there was no stopping it... not yet anyhow. Scott looked down at Nat'ren as they went to the meeting. The skrull boy walked solemnly, his head down, ashamed and scared. He wondered at why this meeting had been called, and why the boy's presence was requested. Scott was not in the custom of entertaining meetings called randomly in the middle of major crises, but something about this summons had caught his attention. So, he had collected the boy from where he was being minimally confined in the infirmary, co-operating with McCoy's attempts to make a vaccine for the Brood virus and headed for the indicated place. The collection of people waiting for him was unusual and disconnected, until they revealed that they were not who they claimed to be. He watched the transformation impassively as they explained who they were, why they were here, and he folded his hands behind his back, in a stance that kept him from easily firing his eyebeams, indication that he was not going to attack, not at this moment, anyhow. "Where are my people," he asked, when their speech was over, this plea to want to help them defeat the Brood. "We are developing a cure to rid ourselves of this virus, and if not, I'm fully prepared to have Danger scourge this land and salt the earth to prevent this leaving the biosphere, and that includes every last man, woman and child here in my care. The only thing you have to barter with is the return of my people and if this all fails there is nowhere for them to return to anyhow. So, you tell me what you have to offer me? Even you naughty neonate, as you call him, has only given us history lessons that are half science fiction and half childish patois, that and a couple of vials of blood that frankly, we could take by force from any one of you if necessary. So, I ask again, what is it you have to offer in the middle of this terror that makes it worth my time? What exactly is a Skrull and what are you advance vanguard soldiers coming in advance of?" |

Darkforce Manipulation

Klr'ik was happy to allow Xel'lirks to be the voice of the Skrull vanguard, back on Skrullos Klr'ik wasn't known being able to mediate very well so in this situation it was best that he was in the background. While Xel'lirk welcomed Cyclops and proceeded to explain the situation, Klr'ik remained with the other Skrull, when the time offer had been made and it was time to reveal their true selves, like the rest Klr'ik gave up the real Cloak's skin and returned to his true Skrull form. Cyclops was of course most concerned for the welfare of his people, Klr'ik had come to expect no less from him in the short time that he had been infiltrating the X-Men within their Utopia base. Personally Klr'ik had no interest in the people around him as when it came to war, people were expendable and the kidnapped humans were nothing more than future dead bodies to him anyway. Klr'ik then stepped forwards, joining Xel. "Your people are safe. They are currently experiencing Skrullos hospitality." As far as Klr'ik was concerned it was neither important nor relevant for where they were or how they were, the most important thing for now was to defeat the Brood. Cyclops continued to speak, this time of the efforts to find a cure for the Brood spores, it was a noble effort but one that the Skrull knew all to well was futile. "There is no cure, our people tried it when we faced the Brood, there was only way we could stop the Brood and that method produced the race that you see before you today." There were more questions but Klr'ik thought that Xel'lirks would do a better job at explaining it than he could anyway. |

Xia had been against this whole idea from the beginning. The second the proposition has left Klr'ik's lips, the Skrull had voiced her opinion. However, she wasn't the only Skrull in Utopia, and therefore, as much as she would have liked it to be the case, everything could not be done her way. So when the time came to come face to face with Cyclops and reveal themselves, Xia stood in the back with a stoic expression, clearly unimpressed with the situation. However, she was not born yesterday, and did realize that they didn't have much choice in the matter. When it came to the Brood, it was kill or be infected, and that species was extremely difficult to exterminate. As much as Xia wanted to believe that the Skrull had the ability to defeat the Brood themselves, she had witnessed how strong they had become - much stronger than their last encounter. On their own, the two teams gathered in Utopia - and the world, for that matter - would undoubtedly be doomed. Together, as much as she hated to admit it, they may stand a sliver of a chance. After Xell'irks had given his speech and Xia had shifted from Laurie's likeness to her own, Cyclops demanded to know the whereabouts of his people. He also stated that without the return of their captives to barter with, there would be no deal. At this point, Xia wanted nothing more than to smack the idiots she had to call her comrades. They couldn't promise the return of his people. They had no authority over that kind of business, so unless he experienced some kind of change of heart, or could see reason in their proposition, this plan was heading downhill. They could lie, but that would backfire as soon as the time came for the exchange of his people and they had nothing to show for it. He then continued on to ask what exactly a Skrull was - now that, Xia could help him with. "I'll let one of my comrades handle the business side of this gathering. However, I can answer one of your questions. I could give you the extended explanation of what exactly the Skrull are, including a detailed history, but that might take a long while, so I'll give you the abridged version. I suppose you here on Earth would call us extraterrestrials - otherwise termed as alien, which may hold an element of truth, as we do hail from another planet. However, we know ourselves as a technologically and genetically advanced race of shape-shifters, as you might have gathered given our display moments ago. Our race is presided over by our esteemed Queen, and resides on the planet Skrullos, which is where your people are being held captive as we temporarily assume their lives - not to worry though, they are being treated with the utmost respect." Whatever she had to tell Cyclops to calm him down, she would. In the brief amount of time Xia had spent being a Senior X-Man, she had recognized that he was not an easy man to please, especially if one was an alien who had taken his people captive and been masquerading as them for extended periods of time. "We have encountered the Brood before. As Klr'ik and Xell'irks explained, we did manage to defeat them, but not without cost. Now, they have made their way back to the surface for a second attempt at a coup, and as much as I personally hate to admit it, alone, neither of us will stand a chance. They have grown stronger, and will stop at nothing, and nothing can stop their infection. It's either join together and chance victory, or stay divided and accept certain defeat. If you have any further questions, I'm sure Xel here can clear them up." Whether or not any of this knowledge was helping, Xia had not the slightest idea - Cyclops often displayed the same amount of emotion as a rock. "I understand your discontent - this entire situation is clearly not ideal. Two completely new races appearing at your doorstep within days of each other; one offering destruction and infection, the other offering help. However, there is not enough time to become familiar with one another, you will simply have to trust us. The Brood are moving quickly, and so too must we. You have a decision to make, Cyclops." Her eyebrow rose. "I do hope you make the right one." |

The cure, or at least the several concepts and plans of devising one from the data that had been gathered from the blood samples and what he could pick up from the tests he had run on Marrow before her transformation as well as scans of the Brood Queen while she was detained. The good doctor was close, he felt it, he spent hours constantly, focusing on nothing else until it finally reached a point where he had very little to do but wait. Which is when he figured would be the perfect time to rest his eyes for a an hour or two. Until the notice for this meeting he was now attending happened. Dark blue, nearly purple-black colored bags hung under his eyes in the minimal flesh that was visible upon his face under the fine blue fur that replaced all forms of facial hair he once had, and then some. He loosely held a clear plastic cup of water with two melting ice cubes within it. He listened patiently letting Scott more or less take the reigns as usual until three of the Skrull impostors seemed to take a moment waiting for a response from the X-men. Hank took a breath. The brief history of the Skrulls provided by Xia was slightly enlightening though it did not entirely hold much value in the Beast's opinion compared to what the young Nat'ren had revealed and Hank more or less attempt to translate into a more sophisticated manner which was mostly presented now by the four importers. "Are any of you scientists?" Hank asked simply. "Do any of you have specific knowledge of the Brood's anatomy, cell structure, or any knowledge that can prevent transformation of those infected? Return the infected to their natural state?" Hank asked, his voice showing the tired and beaten up nature of his mindset caused by the infection of the Brood cells, but also some predatory aggression which already inflicted his mind when he did not keep himself in check as he usually had. "Unless one of you knows more about that subject there is not much else I can personally think of asking anything from the four of you that the young one had not already offered." He took a drink from the cool liquid, setting the plastic cup down once again. "The brood from what i gather is a parasite that can survive despite many desperate attempts at destroying it, your species failed to do that centuries ago, however you managed to do something else to prevent yourselves from further infection." Hank explained summarizing what he already knew. "So unless you know exactly how your ancestors achieved such a goal, or are able to fulfill my previous request..." Hank stated before looking to Scott. "There is no reason for me to stay any longer at these proceedings and I will return to coming up with a way to actually deal with the Brood, permanently." |

Density Manipulation, Flight

He'd said his piece, and to just like he knew he would, Cyclops listened. He didn't answer right away, and nor did he expect him to; this was a big revelation and he needed to weigh what few options he had. He couldn't tell what was going on in the man's mind as his face showed no emotion, and his eyes were hidden behind those ruby lenses; he was a blank slate that one could only guess at. Xel liked to be sure though, so he just waited. The first words from his mouth was questioning the whereabouts of those that had been taken; his concern for them was almost touching, but mostly laughable. If they were as capable as they claimed, or as he thought, then they wouldn't be rotting in a detention center back on Skrullos. Of course, when not bargaining from a position of power with a 100% chance of success, it was not wise to bring up any shortcomings they may have. It was a question he didn't have to answer though, as Klr'ik and Xia answered that and more for him. He'd have to talk with her after this; he understood her "bitchiness" as the humans called her behavior, but that was not helping them any. If she couldn't be sensible about this, then she would need to stay quiet. That was for another time however; now was all about the man of the hour and his answer to the million dollar question. McCoy spoke when Xia was finished; seeming all too pretentious while at the same time coyly asking for their help without trying to seem too desperate. He turned to him, putting Scott on hold for a moment. He needed to solidify their position and drive home that working with them was the best course of action. "Information of that level of detail is for the scientists; we are warriors...infiltrators. There is one who might be able to help, but thankfully this pesky forcefield is keeping us separated. It would do us no good to be able to contact him and be overrun in the process; not many have constitutions and will as strong as the people here." A bit of buttering up would probably do nothing for Cyclops, but every bit helped in this game of chess they played. "However, the basics of the Brood and the time before is instilled in every Skrull. The Brood are...more robust than any creature the Earth has ever seen. And they are far more than a simple parasite. As you can tell from Marrow and the others, they consume the host, re-purposing it to serve the Queen and the Broodmind. And as for destroying the Brood; did you see any until recently?" There had been no Brood presence in the Savage Land until something changed. "We destroyed all traces of those foul creatures, or so we thought. Perhaps a sample was left behind and disturbed; it doesn't matter now. They are out there, they are planning, and they are growing stronger by the day." He held his hands out to his side and cocked his head. "You want to know how we kept from becoming Brood? We changed our very genetic code." Fingers became blades, arms became writhing tendrils; torso stretched to impossible proportions all before quickly changing back to normal. "We were Nuwali once; we forced de-evolution upon our entire populace to become incompatible with the Brood process...to become Skrull." He crossed his arms and locked eyes with the furry mutant. "I can't offer you any more than the information you already have, Beast. But I can give you a warning. If you're as smart as yourself and everyone else thinks you are...you'd do well to hurry and find a cure. Because otherwise you will all become Brood...or you all will die." No longer caring if he left or stayed, Xel'lirks returned his attention to Cyclops. "Scott; as one warrior to another, trust me when I affirm my people's words and say yours are safe. And may I suggest looking at this situation from another perspective, if you haven't yet. In front of you stand four people with all the very powerful mutations of the people they impersonate. In front of you stand four people who are wholly immune to the Brood infestation. We may not be able to help with the cure, but we can help with the fight. Cyclops...in front of you stands a strike force." |
