Somewhere...

"Well well, Mr. Howlett. Looks like you have done it again," a man on a horse said. He wore a badge on his chest, as did the five other men that were with him. It had to be a sheriff and his posse, formed from that town he had just fled from. The horse whined and turned, but the sheriff kept his eyes on James Howlett.

"I had to run. Dog went this way... he killed Rose!" Logan heard himself reply. He was on foot, which made the posse seem to be even more menacing as they loomed over him. Two of them carried repeating rifles while the other three held pistols in their hands.

"And I'll see you both hanged for that, seeing as your fight in my town caused her killin'," the sheriff interrupted, then spat on the ground between them. "I know she was your sister... but murder is murder, friend."

"Are you blind?! I was trying to save her... I ain't got time for this, you bastards," Logan said, turning away from them and heading towards the wood line that Dog had disappeared in. A gunshot rang out and a blinding pain shot through Logan's knee, causing him to stumble forward so that he was on all fours.

"Hold it there partner," the sheriff said, holding his hand up so those that were with him would not shoot again. "You got claws or something, James. Ain't never seen nothing like it. And those are what stabbed Rose... not that other guy. That's why you'll hang. Now surrender to your punishment or we'll shoot you dead right here and now. Boys.."

At the sheriff's word, all the men raised their firearms up.

"I..." James started, feeling the bullet wound that had went straight through his kneecap begin to close. With no adamantium to account for, his healing factor worked faster than he could recall. "Am not... a murderer!" he shouted, suddenly whipping around and leaping through the air like a wild animal. Bone claws ejected from his knuckles just as he landed on the sheriff's horse and he put all six of them into his chest, ripping the life out of him.

All of the other men fired, but the bullets had little effect as James fought through them, killing each man one after the other. He moved so much quicker that they could. In the end, he had only taken five bullets to the torso and another had blown his ear off. But it didn't matter. James climbed down from the last man's horse and landed on all fours, sniffing the air. Then, like the wild animal he was, he took off into the woods, running on all fours.

Perhaps it was the blood in the air. Surely it had to be the blood in the air. But as he ran along through the night, a timberwolf emerged from somewhere in the dark forest and joined by his side. James came to a sliding stop and turned to face the wolf, his mouth foaming as he snarled at the animal. The timberwolf showed it's teeth in response and from the darkness behind the beast, several more glowing eyes appeared. He was surrounded by a pack of timberwolves, with each one looking at him as if he was their next meal.

James rose up, standing like a man once again, and ripped his shirt off. It was snowing and the cold, the cold, was horrible, but the thought of Rose dying and the many gunshots had driven him wild. Steam rose from his flesh and his claws glowed in the moonlight. Finally, he tilted his head back and roared into the night sky, issuing a challenge to any and all beasts that may be within earshot. The pack of wolves, knowing that this was the alpha and not willing to risk their lives testing it, all rose their heads up and howled in unison. Throughout the valley, packs of wolves could be heard howling.

Dropping back down to all fours, James looked at the timberwolves and then rushed deeper into the woods, and one by one the wolves joined by his side until they ran as a pack.

Now...

"I'm sorry Ms. Kinney, his pupils are still not responding," the nurse said, closing Wolverine's eyes. "And... his pulse is still very weak. Without breathing for that long, he might be brain dead." She looked to Laura apologetically, assuming that Logan was her father. She was, in a way, right about that. After giving her the look, the nurse checked the respirator, which was breathing for Logan.

After Havok had warmed him up, Logan was clinically dead. Though he had a weak pulse, he was not breathing on his own and a medical team had to be called up in order to maintain that. They have moved him down a few floors into a medical room, which had everything that a hospital would have in order to keep someone alive. He also had quite a few wounds, which were not healing over.

"But believe me, we are going to give him the best treatment until we are sure. It's just... with that metal in his head it is impossible to do a CT scan in order to determine one way or the other," the nurse said, checking some of the medicine bags that were busy dripping life giving fluid into Logan's arm via an I.V. She kept talking, hoping to comfort the girl and to show that they were trying their best. "I know he is a healer... but everyone has their limits."

BEEP!

"That's... strange," the nurse said, glancing back at Laura and then looking over to the heart monitor. She walked quickly around to the other side of the bed and looked at it more closely.

BEEP!

"There it is again, his heart just threw an SVT.. I need to call the doc... oh my," the nurse pointed down to Logan's hands, where his adamantium claws slowly began to eject.

Wolverine suddenly sat up, eyes wild as he looked around the room. He reached up and ripped the intubation tube from his throat, throwing it to the side before falling off the bed and swinging wildly, yanking himself free of the wires and tubing that were connected to him. Then he looked back and luckily, he saw Laura instead of the nurse.

"RAAAAR!" he roared, spinning quickly and then diving across the room claws first, planting them into the girl's chest. He then threw a boot up, kicking her off of his claws and through the wall behind her, then spun around to look at the nurse. In his wild state, he simply thought Laura was done with and figured the nurse to be next.

Tilting his head to the right, his neck popped in a loud and metallic fashion. Logan then growled, while several of the visible wounds that were scattered across his entire body began to close. He then walked towards the nurse with deadly intentions.

"Oh god," the nurse said, falling back against the wall and holding her hands up.

“No,” X-23 narrowed her green eyes menacingly. “That is not possible.”

The nurse gave her a disbelieving stare; obviously the kid was having a hard time coming to terms with the news, but the ice cold demeanour and point blank refusal was something new. Most people screamed and wailed rather than acting as if they were telling a kid they couldn’t have another cookie.

Glancing back to Logan, she stared at the man intently and continued speaking to the nurse without looking up. “Go and fetch the doctor if you wish. It will make no difference; you will see.” Logan could not be dead, in any sense of the word and not just because she quailed at the thought of life without her genetic donor and more recently, father figure, but because it was simply impossible. To kill either of them would require much more force, much more violence than Logan had gone through with the skrull. It would not end this way, because it could not.

Moments later, Laura’s words became almost prophetic as signs of life began to show and the nurse reacted in surprise and shock, none more so than when Logan’s claws flew out. No…

Tensing, the feral moved quickly, recognising the pure fury that Wolverine was in; it would not stop, not recognise friend or foe, just…targets. Prey. The nurse was a civilian, not built for combat of any sort, let alone facing off with Logan in a berserker rage and so the clone put herself in a position of prominence, baiting the man to attack her instead. Her eyes went large as the claws were thrust into her chest like hot knives into butter and for a moment, her vision dimmed, her heart slowed and the girl went limp, easily thrown off and through the wall. Landing like a broken doll, Laura lay still, covered in dust, rubble and her own blood. Then, almost as fast as it had left, colour returned to her cheeks and her eyes became alert. The puncture wounds in her chest knitted and the damage to her lungs righted itself.

Pushing herself off from the ground, X-23’s own claws shooting out, like deadly little mirrors of Wolverine’s. Ducking back through the hole she had made in the wall, the girl lunged at Logan who was even now advancing on the petrified nurse. With her own growing rage, it was becoming harder to keep things in check, to not slash and hack and maul until there was nothing left but blood and meat, but that was not the way she was learning and it was not what Logan would want for her.

Readying herself, the girl pounced, landing on his back and gripping on, pushing the claws of her right hand down through his shoulder. Nothing would stop him now but blood. Looking down at the nurse as she distracted the X-man, she glared at the woman with an increasing feral glint in her eyes.

“Get out, get OUT!” X-23 half snarled, half screamed and let herself fall backwards, claws still implanted in Wolverine until she was about to hit the floor, then she retracted them, dropped and rolled away so he would not land heavily on her. The adamantium skeleton gave him a great deal of weight and she could not go down heavily again so soon…she saw the woman leaving out of the corner of her eye and breathing heavily, Laura dragged herself up into a crouched position, watching and waiting Logan, trying to anticipate his next move; she was him after all.

He only took two more steps towards the nurse when Laura pounced upon his back and stabbed him through his shoulder. The feeling of metal on metal as her claws ground against his bones made him snarl, and he lifted his other hand over his head and behind him in and attempt to grab her. The distraction and X-23's yelling was enough for the nurse to take the hint and she quickly fled, using the hole in the wall as an escape point. With Laura's claws pulling him back, along with her weight and his reaching, Logan spun and fell backwards onto the floor, landing on his injured shoulder as Laura rolled away and out of his reach.

"James! Stop!" Rose's voice echoed within his mind.

Slowly, Weapon X put a hand on the floor to push himself up. His hand slipped in his own blood, which flooded out from the two wounds in his shoulder, and he got up to his knees. Logan sat on his knees for a moment and the fountain of blood stopped as his healing factor quickly sealed off the wounds, even though they were not quite healed over yet. Logan took several deep breaths and then turned his head, looking over his injured shoulder towards Laura.

"Thank you," he said, his words coming out in a growl as he looked her in the eye. The red in his vision cleared and his entire body shook with each breath that he took, fighting to regain control of his mind. Logan looked down to his hands and his claws retracted back into the housing in his forearms. Then he attempted to stand, only to lose his balance and crash into a metal tray that was holding some type of medical equipment. Knowing that his body was still recovering from all the trauma he had just been through, Logan fell back onto his side and then rolled over onto his hindquarters.

"Did I hurt anyone?" he half-growled, half mumbled, but refused to look towards his pseudo-daughter. He could recollect what he had done to her, only moments before. But he knew she was stronger than most. She would be fine. What he couldn't remember was anything between Bobby freezing him and that moment, when he woke up here and attacked. It was like a red haze had covered his thoughts and vision and he became more of a spectator of his actions than a participant. If anyone understood that, it was her. Apologies could be offered, sure... but he knew that she knew that he was not in his right mind.

"Where are we?" he asked after another moment, not recognizing the room they were in. Logan typically avoided hospital rooms. "Where is Bobby and the others? I need to get to him before..."

Laura’s breathing still held a deep rattle to it, as her lungs finished the process of healing within her. The wounds had been quick and clean, making the process much more manageable for her healing factor. Her heart had been missed by less than an inch. But she did not back down, because she could not back down. She knew that Wolverine would not wish to harm a person unintentionally and in this berserker rage, he was not in control of himself, simply acting upon his feral instinct. It was something that she understood all too well, with the added layer of the trigger scent that the Facility had programmed into her. It plunged X-23 into a synthetic rage until she had slaughtered the dosed target, no matter who it was.

Not taking her eyes off of Logan for a second, the feral clone watched as he struggled up, the rage abating within him. He fell, crashing into a tray as he went down and knowing better than to push himself too hard, the man stayed down. Laura however, stayed tensed, just in case. At his thanks, the brunette simply nodded in response. At his question, the girl stood and took a few paces across the chaotic floor towards him.

“No,” the one word answer was given without hesitation. Her uniform was ripped, front and back, although the black did not show the blood. “We are in the Worthington Complex. You were frozen on the roof by Iceman. Nightcrawler removed him, to where I am not sure,” Laura’s tone was clipped as she informed him, however what she did not say was that she had been scared. Scared that he was going to die and leave her alone as she had been left before. Love was not something she understood yet, but the clone understood attachments and while it had been shaky, there was now a firm attachment between herself and her genetic donor.

After a moment of silence, she closed the space between them by a half foot and knelt down, watching him quietly. When he was ready, he would stand. Until then the feral knew she would have to wait, unless instructed otherwise, so wait she would.

Logan's eyes shot around the room as Laura gave him answers. The memory of his encounter with Bobby on the roof came flooding back, replacing the dreams that he had been having. It was very disorienting, to recall something from that far ago and to attempt to bring the present and the past together as one. For now, he allowed the thoughts of Rose and Dog to be set aside and he attempted to focus on the realization that he had been frozen solid and that Kurt was made to clean up the mess. Finally, he looked back to Laura in understanding and gave her a single nod in affirmation.

"I see," he said, grunting as rolled over and got to his knees. Logan then pulled himself up to a standing position, still a bit unsteady as muscles and tendons that had been frozen solid worked to repair themselves. He itched all over, inside and out, but it was a feeling that he had become accustomed to. The bad thing was that his body always healed faster than his mind, and it would be obvious that it was his mind he was struggling to recover.

After another moment of thought with his back to the clone, he turned around to face her. Reaching out with three fingers, he touched her shirt where his claws had penetrated her torso just moments before. Her shirt was still wet with blood, though the wounds were either closed or closing. Logan then lifted that same hand up to her chin, touching her there with an odd amount of gentleness. It was a drastic change from the way he had touched her only moments before. For only a moment, sorrow and weariness appeared in his eyes, as if the last bit of injury had forced itself up to that point and was showing itself off. He may have looked older or even fatherly, for that split second. And in that second, he regretted everything he had been made for, and was sorry that Laura was suffering the same fate.

But just as quickly, the moment passed and his skin flushed with youth as the healing factor won the fight against his injuries. Logan's eyes sharpened and his brow narrowed, while full realization of what was going on around him sank in. He quickly removed his hand from Laura's chin and turned towards the window that was in the room, marching towards it and looking out towards the flashing lights that were scattered throughout the city. They could not quite see Mutant Town from their perspective, but a brighter than usual light came from that direction, along with smoke.

"They have crossed a damn line," Logan said, his feral nature returning back to him in full force. "He has been with me the entire time I have been here. Right under my god damned nose and I didn't sniff 'em out. Now they're here in full force." He glanced up to the sky, his nostrils flaring with anger. "Think they got us divided and runnin' scared. I got news for 'em..."

Logan suddenly turned away from the window and looked at Laura.

"I'll kill 'em all myself if I gotta," he stated, his fists down by his side and clenched tight. Since he was shirtless, it was easy to see that his skin was flushed red with anger and many veins bulged from the increased blood pressure, primarily from his neck, biceps and forehead. It was also clear that this was a different type of anger. It wasn't the out of control and directionless anger that he falls into during a rage. It was the focused anger that he had worked so long to perfect. "And we're going to start with that fucker that took Bobby. C'mon... I got a good idea where he put 'em, 'cause I know Kurt didn't lay his ass open."

He then turned and walked out of the hole in the wall, wearing nothing but his skivvies, and walked towards the elevator.

JP BETWEEN YEZ'LED AND LOGAN

Yez’led leaned against one of the walls of the boiler room, too hot to even create sweat. He looked at the door opposite to him that would have led to his exit, had it not been locked. He wondered what was going on out in the world. If Logan was just thawing out, if the next part of the plan was kicking in yet. He hoped not. The Skrull hoped Logan was thawed out and down in the boiler room with him before the next step. Yez’led stared at the door, daring it to open. Pull at the strings of whoever comes through the other side. He smirked at the anticipation the Skrull was done.

It hadn't taken Logan too long to locate where Kurt had put the Skrull that was posing as Bobby. Knowing Bobby's power set and his strengths and weaknesses, it made sense that it would be somewhere hot. So the logical place was the boiler room. As he made his way down, his senses confirmed his suspicions. After a short walk, he stood before the boiler room door.

Anger and hate still boiled to the surface at the thoughts of what Yez'led and the Skrulls had done. Not only had they taken his friend, Bobby, but they had taken others and they had cut them off from Utopia. Had they killed them? Possibly. And now they had arrived on earth to take over in force. Even now, their ships lingered overhead.

The door to the boiler room was locked. So, quite suddenly, three adamantium claws penetrated the large metal door that kept Yez'led in his heated prison. The claws went straight down, cutting the door at the hinges, and then with a swift kick, the door fell inwards. Logan walked in and stood upon the door, shooting a glare across the room at the Skrull. "You didn't finish the job, bub," he said, shaking his head and holding both fists up, showing off the deadly set of claws. "But I see that Kurt didn't finish the job on you... kinda knew he wouldn't... but unfortunately for you, I am."

Up until the claws struck through the door it seemed like he was dozing off. The senses sharpened once those claws opened the door. Yez’led stayed seated as Logan spoke to him. “It wasn’t for lack of trying on my part. Kurt and his morals. Good thing you don’t have any of those.” He stood up from where he was seated.

“You have no idea how glad I am you got here. Before the day’s out, it’s gonna get pretty damn interesting.” He paused and scratched the back of his neck a normal trait Bobby was known to do. Yez’led spoke, “That’s the joke there, isn’t it Logan? I made sucha good Bobby that… I think I even convinced myself.” He flashed one of Bobby’s signature boyish smiles.

Logan quickly crossed the room to where the fake Bobby stood, listening to what the Skrull had to say, but it was obvious that he just didn't give a fuck. Once he got to a point that he was standing just in front of Yez'led, Logan dropped his claws to his sides and looked the alien in the eye.

"You convinced yourself of being someone you ain't," Logan said. "You even convinced us. But the fact remains that you ain't Bobby. You ain't nothin'. To me, to any of the X-men... and if Hartley knew what you really were, you wouldn't have mattered to her either. So don't go foolin' yourself, bub. You're dying right here, right now, and you're dyin' alone."

He gave Yez'led a smirk and then turned slightly as if he was about to turn and walk away, but then suddenly whipped right around and threw a hard punch directly into the center of the alien's chest... claws first. The claws were of such a length that the tips protruded from Yez'led's back. But death wouldn't come quite so quickly. Logan wasn't the torturing type, but a simple stab through the chest wasn't an instant death. So for now, Logan continued to stare into Yez'led's eyes.

Yez’led took in a sharp inhale. The sudden stab of Wolverine’s claws, while anticipated, still shocked Yez’led. He coughed out green blood and his form as Bobby Drake changed into his natural Skrull form. He wheezed his breaths, “No need… to hide now…” He gave him a pained smile; he could feel his body get heavier.

“Thanks… Wolvie.” He placed a hand on Logan’s shoulder, trying to hold up with weight, “Word of ad-…advice…?” It was painful but Yez’led leaned forward to whisper into Logan’s ear. “Run…and hide. They’ll… put you down.” He slumped forward and exhaled his last breath. Yez’led of Skrullos, the alien who impersonated Robert Louise Drake for nearly a year, had died by the claws of the Wolverine.

Logan's claws retracted back into the housing in his forearms as he felt the Skrull's last breath upon his face. He curled his upper lip into a snarl and looked down as the body slumped to the ground, not seeming to be effected in the slightest by the death he had just caused. Finally turning away, Logan walked towards the door he had just entered only moments before.

"Yea, heard that before."
