Date: May 15 Time: After midnight In a darkened room illuminated only by several flat screens built into the wall, stood Jason Wyngarde and a few trusted Pawns. It was late, well past the midnight hour, and Jason had been tirelessly focusing his energies on unraveling a mystery that was truly out of this world. This was without a doubt something that he was most perfectly suited for, and he had been puzzling at this particular dilemma for several weeks now. “Look at him,” Jason said distractedly into the shadowy room as he stared at the monitor. “I do believe he thinks he’s doing well.” Draping one arm over his midsection and propping the other up under his chin, Jason studied the figure on the screen with narrowed and calculating eyes. He had to admit-he did admire the sheer determination. Futile as it was in all actuality. The captive Skrull had been interrogated ceaselessly and was being kept in a completely secure room that was created by King Forge himself. Though Jason wasn’t entirely sure how the room worked, he did know that it somehow managed to make physical manifestations using light and sound. And though these holographic projections operated differently than his illusions in many regards-they were a marvelous substitute for the fact that his powers were useless against the alien. It wasn’t clear how much these creatures needed to eat or sleep, nonetheless Jason kept both of those things under strict control. There was no discernible pattern or routine. There was no three square meals. Everything was under Jason’s control and all of it was for the express purpose of undoing the wretched green creature. Several times already Jason had intentionally left some sort of opportunity for the captive to escape, and several times the Skrull had taken him up on it. Each time he caught him and brought him back immediately, one time he escaped out of his room and ended up headed down a long series of hallways only to end up breaking back in to his cell again. The point was to break him down completely. And now, believing that he might have actually broken free from his cage this time, the Skrull traversed down imaginary corridors and was about to encounter holographic opposing forces that stood as a last barrier between him and his escape. Jason was curious to see what he would do with this perceived freedom. “Should we rein him back in again, Bishop?” Glancing over his shoulder, Jason shook his head. “Oh no…this time we let it go on for a while. But do create the sound of an alarm being raised,” he said. “We mustn’t let him think this is too easy.” Immediately, alarms started going off in the holographic room, blaring through the imaginary corridors of the program. Jason nodded and clasped his hands behind his back as he stepped over to another young man. He put a hand on his shoulder and leaned in. “When he thinks he's escaped he might try to contact someone. Use your gifts young man to find out what he’s saying.” Learning their language was important, and this one was more likely than any to be invaluable toward that end. |
