August 30th Noonish Summertime. What exactly had Humberto been doing for the pass couple of months anyway? The Genoshan had pretty much just been enjoying life and the absence of global threats. Whenever the team had a mission to carry out he was there right beside them. It was still somewhat surprising that Mystique had not driven him to violence yet. Three months of living with the shapeshifter and Humberto was learning to trust her rather than simply accept. He was a young man slowly growing into himself. He was learning to be a better person and the guidance of his colleagues and friends was tremendous. Without them there was no telling what state he would be in mentally and physically. He would probably still be a sack full of anger towards the world ready to snap at any and everyone. He had come a long way. With most of the hurt from years of living a miserable existence was pushed aside now, there was room in his heart for something better. And Humberto was starting to have that space filled up with nothing but positive emotions for a good friend. Oddly enough he would not have met the young woman if it wasn’t for the fake Callisto accepting him into the Morlocks. For that at least he could thank the insane invader. Humberto had left the X-Factor Headquarters to venture out into Mutant Town to meet up with Luce for a day dedicated to them. It had been awhile since the two of them were able to just relax together since they had both been busy figuring out their lives and what they wanted in the world. Finally there was enough downtime for ex-Morlocks to chill out and catch up. Humberto stood at the location that they had agreed to meet up at, waiting patiently for her to arrive. He was nervous. Why was he nervous? It wasn’t like this was the first time meeting her or something. The guy had fought beside her before hell he lived with her. Nervousness should not exist. |

It had taken her a while to get used to living in the open. The decision she'd made not to return underground hadn't been one she'd made in one day. The months she'd spent distanced from the Morlocks, first under the rule of the psycho bitch and then under some kind of mass hypnosis or whatever, had just become more than physical distance. She'd chosen to stay out of the way in case the threats had been carried out, but she could have acted anyway. The idea of so many deaths on her shoulders had kept her from acting. As tough as she talked, being called out on it, she balked from the idea of endangering so many. Over the summer she'd just realized that she wasn't going back down there. She could exist in the damn bay if she wanted. Just chilling underwater. Not that she needed to make herself scarce now. Not for the last few months, with everything pretty much back to normal. Everyone in their right mind spaces. And her brother actually living in the real world, literally returned from some Utopia in another pocket dimension or some weird crap like that. She was pretty thrilled about that. And not just because it meant she had a nice place to crash at. Not that she exactly slept, but neither did he, so it was cool. They could play video games well into the morning. It was pretty much like being a kid again except without their step mother being a bitchface at them all the time. She was also pretty damn thrilled she'd run into Humberto again. She'd been seriously mad when that woman had kicked him out the way she did. It was the first of a series of things that had led to her facing her down. Might not have fought her but at least she hadn't stayed under heel...They'd both been way too busy to actually hang out properly last time they'd seen each other, a chance run in that still made her smile a little in hindsight. Instead of the usual vague 'see ya around' bullshit they'd actually decided on a time and place to meet up again. She was oddly excited at the prospect. They hadn't exactly been besties back in the Tunnels. Still it was really good to see him again. She grinned when she saw him waiting patiently for her to arrive. "HEY!" she shouted from across the street, waving one arm. Traffic was slow enough that she easily made it across without even a close call. Not that it would matter unless a driver panicked... "Hey," she repeated in a more normal tone, still grinning. "Berto how's it going?" |

Humberto looked around the street corner that he stood on taking in the different faces of the everyday citizens. Having spent so much of his time underground, the majority of the people that passed were complete strangers to him, yet somehow he felt calm and content around them. This was Mutant Town after all. Even though he no longer viewed all humans as the enemy because of the ones that kept him as a slave or those that invaded his once home in the Morlock tunnels, he still preferred to spend time around his own kind. Humans would always come second in his mind. Before she spoke to him from across the street, Humberto already knew Luce was present. The young woman had a very unforgettable and unique scent to her. He smiled as she made her over to him. “Hey yourself.” It was nice seeing her again. With Luce by his side, Humberto began walking. There was nothing planned really other than spending time together. He was never one for figuring stuff like that out. Three years of freedom and he still had not tried to do anything like take a girl out on a date. For one the kid didn’t have a penny to his name. Anything that he needed was provided by X-Factor or acquired through other means that the law looked down upon. “It’s going great. I’m glad to see you again since you know we never spent much time together back as Morlocks.” Humberto scratched the back of his head. “So how’s life now that you’re not with them anymore? What happened?” |
