KNOWN RELATIVES: HEIGHT: 5'9". BUILD: "Tall, dark, and handsome." Replace the "tall" with "average," and one will get Pete Wisdom. Although because he is handsome does not necessarily mean he cares to showcase that particular quality of his. He is slim, but toned, with average-to-broad shoulders and a defined bone structure. EYES: Deep blue; narrow. HAIR: Dark brown to black; average length, cut above the ears. Usually unkempt and side-swept. DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Formerly wore a simple, black eye-patch covering his left eye due to the simple reason he believed he looked cool. Battle scars can slightly be seen from here and there, but there's nothing too distinguishing that needs a story to tell. CLOTHING STYLE: There isn't a range of clothing from Pete Wisdom's closet, which only contains a professional style of attire. This includes button-up shirts, dress pants, khakis, blazers, suits, ties and bow-ties, and dress shoes. The only variety of color isn't really any color at all-- his clothes ranges from blacks to whites to grays. While formal, he forms an oxymoron in the fact that he appears to be dressed casually. His tie isn't tightened; his sleeves are rolled up; his shirts are buttoned down and untucked-- it's all very "lazy" and lax. UNIFORM: He doesn't have a particular costume or uniform because his preferred civilian clothing style is the same as his uniform; however, when he is on duty, he may have to gear up in special uniforms depending on the mission at hand. POWERS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: "Hot knives" is the informal version of the technical term, "thermokinetic hotknives." This is the mutant ability to convert solar radiation and ambient heat into narrow slivers of energy from his fingertips. These are partially solid constructs made of pure thermal energy. The heat of these hotknives can reach up to extremely high temperatures, around 5000 °C-- nearing the sun's 5505 °C. Despite the high calidity Pete Wisdom can create, he commonly decreases the temperature depending on what effects he hopes for. Being able to control his hotknives, he can vary the use of his powers as deadly projectiles acting similar to a gun or as melee weapons in close quarters combat. Death would be the only result if his hotknives were too hot, which is why it's main purpose is to stun an opponent. The lowest he has gone is 93 °C. This power is most effective when he utilizes all eight fingers and two thumbs, forming a total of ten hotknives. Not including the length of his fingers, the average length of his hotknives is eight inches. The less total number of hotknives he generates at a time gives him the ability to create longer hotknives, reaching the length of twelve inches; this also allows him to focus more on the lesser amount of hotknives, making it more hot. It is easier for him to reach maximum temperatures when he is creating less hotknives; otherwise, more concentration and time are necessary. Using seven to ten hotknives is when Pete plans to be quick and efficient, and if there is a larger target he's aiming for. Using four to six hotknives is when he is hoping for a better result of injury. Using one to three hotknives is when he is aiming for a singular target or when he is engaging in hand-to-hand combat-- using them as "claws." The more powerful hotknives can cut through most forms of metal as well. The average speed of his hotknives as projectiles is eighty feet per second. The speed decreases the longer it takes to impact. Once it hits fifteen feet, the temperature also decreases. Once it hits thirty feet, the actual projectile starts to fade and diminish. As claws, the temperature and length sustains as long as Pete keeps concentration. If the claws are generated larger, they can act as a shield to burn any incoming projectiles, protecting his person. If falling from a height, he can also use the hotknives to generate thermal energy to slow his descent, but it's hardly flight or levitation. Pete subconsciously forms a a protective layer of thermal energy around his fingers to protect him from the dangers of his own hotknives. Pete prefers to not use his powers unless necessary, or at times when he wants to show off, because it's an advantage if his enemy does not know that he's a mutant. To defend himself while not using powers, he is highly skilled in physical combat and the use of various firearms and technologies, which aids him in his espionage and intelligence-gathering skills. Working with both S.T.R.I.K.E. and S.H.I.E.L.D. has helped him to build a better resistance to mental attacks. WEAKNESS: The hotknives takes time to generate; about two seconds to construct an average hotknife of about 2800 °C. If creating hotknives in quick succession one after the other, there is an obvious loss of concentration and time, so each succeeding hotknife will be less powerful than the previous one. While ten may seem like many projectiles to use at once, it's more difficult to control each individual one, which is why it is better to construct a lesser amount of hotknives, but that also takes more time, energy, and focus. As he is in the sun for twelve hours of the day, he is constantly "charging" for those twelve hours because the absorption portion of his powers are always active. That twelve hours of sun can provide enough energy for eighty minutes, but that's only if he is constantly using his powers for eighty minutes, otherwise the energy is distributed along the consumption of his powers. In between large uses of his hotknives, he will have to wait it out and charge. This means he is weaker at night, when there is no sun to give him thermal energy, so he would have to revert to absorbing ambient heat through other sources such as light-bulbs or even from humans and mammals. Pete Wisdom is still a human, nonetheless; he can be shot, burned, bruised, stabbed, and is susceptible by any other forms of physical injuries and wounds. Although he has specialized training to defend his mind from mental attacks such as telepathy, he is still as vulnerable to it as normal humans are. The only thing protecting him is his willpower. PERSONALITY As though it may not initially seem like it, Pete Wisdom is a very responsible man. When his father had fell into a drunk stupor, Pete took responsibility to support him and pay for his bills. When his mother had been murdered by a serial killer, Pete took responsibility and said it was his fault that he wasn't there to protect her. When Apocalypse had attacked the world, Pete took responsibility for his dead teammates. Being a leader came natural to him; he was very stubborn and determined while growing up, meaning that he would always be bold enough to act and fight for what he believed in. Although Pete is a very morbid individual. He has a shell of cynicism that only expresses his deep depression. He does not like to show it, but he has more than a lifetimes worth of guilt for the gallons of blood stained on his hands, which has started with his mother's death. While Pete is a negative person, it's ironic how he positively percieves himself. Rather than using the term "pessimist," he would say that he is a realist. He believes that there are many out there with an extraneous amount of hope fighting for a lost cause; he used to think this way about the X-Men until he learned to respect their philosophy after he struggled through similar experiences as well. As a realist, he is one of the most skeptical men a person could meet. Pete is distrustful of others, usually considering their opinions and beliefs to be untrue or inaccurate or "wrong." This makes him self-righteous as well, although he doesn't realize it. He has a huge ego that gives him reason to believe that he is higher than everyone else-- his opinions mean more, he is more worthy of respect, etc., etc. Being close-minded, it's hard for him to open up to strangers who he already has weary judgements of in the first place. Pete knows that other supernatural beings exist, but he knows that humans/mutants can be the worst species because of their aversion to sustaining acceptible humanity. This gives him a great deal of loneliness. After losing his mother, disconnecting with his sister, betraying his first lover, and cheating on his wife, Pete has come to a conclusion that he is destined to never be in true love. Most of the factors comes from his job, which can leave the enemy targeting loved ones and mean never spending time with them due to his constant assigning of missions. When he had first lost his job with no where else to go-- he found himself in the bar and pub. Drinking became a habit of his, as it drowned out all the guilt and worry he had every inflicted himself upon. However, the worst part is that his new best friend became the cigarette. With nothing else to do with his life, he would sit back, kick his feet up, and light a cigar. Even after he found his way back to becoming an agent of espionage, he has become an addicted chain smoker. Pete is very adept and professional in what he does. So much that he turned his lover, who turned out to be an assassin, into the British government. Though, many would judge "professional" as "merciless" and "vindictive." He used to think that an assignment was an assignment, nothing else-- nothing to do with questions of what is morally right and wrong, nothing to do with how it affects others, and nothing to do with how it can affect himself. Pete isn't afraid to get down and dirty, and because of that, he became hardened; his views of violence is that it's sometimes necessary for the greater good. While stubborn is one of his greatest qualities, Pete would use the term "determined." He never gives up; once his mind is made up, there is no stopping him in completing his goal. He is extremely focused and is able to organize and prioritize to be efficient and effective. This deals into his qualities of being decisive-- having the ability to make decisions quickly when others cannot-- and courageous, willing to prove himself by going all the way. However, it's difficult for many to see him as a great guy because he has a very relaxed posture in everything he does: His work-desk is messy with papers and files everywhere (even if he apparently knows where everything is); he tends to be discrete and duplicitous, which makes people think that he is distracted and not paying attention; and he is really rude when he speaks to others, even if what he is saying is for the greater good. Despite his snarky and misanthropic exterior, Pete Wisdom has a really good heart with good intentions. He really believes that he can make a change in the world for the better, even if it's just helping a woman get her cat out from a tree. When mostly everyone around him is happy and content, Pete tends to warm up and become more comfortable. He has a deep kindness and morality, but it's just that his skepticism hides that fact. Though, with his confidence and good heart, Pete is also very pretentious. He likes to show off, either with his skills or powers-- he even wore an eyepath for the sole reason that he looked cool in it. HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Born in London, England to Harold and Adele Wisdom, Peter Paul Wisdom was raised in a rather peculiar family. Romany, his older sister, was a history fanatic obsessed with the supernatural, especially vampires-- in which Pete grew weary that the abnormal truly did exist. Harold, his father, was a detective sergeant working for the New Scotland Yard. Once Harold retired he became a drunk and abused the substance of alcohol. This eventually led to the disconnection between members of the family, forcing Adele, Pete's mother, to file for a divorce. While Romany decided to live with her mother, Pete still had hopes for Harold's rehabilitation, so he made the choice of living with him. Unfortunately, Pete ended up paying for his father's rent while growing up. Now living in Hungerford, Adele was expecting a visit from Pete; however, a couple of days prior, the mother and son argued over the phone-- Adele admitting how she never loved Harold and that Pete was always a forsaken mistake. Without any notification, Pete decided not to visit his mother, but while waiting for her son, she had been coincidentally killed by a serial killer named Michael Ryan. For years after, both Pete and Harold blamed Pete for her death. Because of this, Pete had the desire to become a detective to learn the skills of how to hunt down not just Michael Ryan, but other criminals as well. As a teenager, Pete developed the mutant ability to create thermokinetic "hotknives." He used this power to his advantage, especially to defend himself. Once he turned eighteen in 1995, he left his father to fend for himself, and applied to become a cop. Due to his abilities, which he hid in secrecy, he became a proficient cop and was promoted to a detective position four years later in 1999. Immediately, despite it being an inactive cold case, he independently searched for Michael Ryan, wanting justice to what he had done to his family. Within a year in 2000, Pete found his whereabouts and impulsively killed him. Afraid of what might happen if this murder became public, he wanted to run away. Though, the MI-6 had found Pete, but the results were unexpected. They revealed that Michael Ryan was a mutant serial killer that has been on the wanted list for years; not only that, but they offered Pete a position on their agency for capturing him. Soon after, he fell in love with a woman named Sari St. Hubbins. Although he didn't know that she was a contract assassin with Queen Elizabeth as her next target. Loyal to his job, Pete captured her and turned her over to the government for imprisonment. Despite being highly respected, even by the Queen herself, he realized that his job was detrimental to his relationships with others. Because of his powers, specific skill-set, and experience with espionage, Black Air, a clandestine agency, tracked him down and requested his employment with them. This caused him to grow lonely; it didn't help that he was commissioned, and sometimes forced, on assignments to engage in acts of mass murder and destruction. This became a nuisance to a point that he had to simply... quit. For the next two years, he took a break from his job and began to drink and smoke. Pete never wished to become like his father, but he discovered that drinking was a great defense mechanism, which he forgot about all the pain and guilt that stained him from all the people he had killed. Always alone, he began to smoke. Cigarettes became his best friend, and he honestly had nothing else to do with his life. An old friend, Mr. Jardine, had spontaneously contacted Pete, asking him to help find his missing daughter, Amanda. Amanda was a photojournalist investigating serial murders, going undercover as bait for the killer. Pete discovered that the victims of this killer was being fossilized by an unknown power, marked with an ancient language of symbols. He decided to request aid from Romany, hoping that she would be able to decipher the symbols; as well as aid from Harold, for professional profiling of the killer. He solved the case by determining the killer was delusional and believed himself to be Cain, the son of Adam, composing letters directly to God on the fossilized corpses he was leaving behind. Pete was able to save Amanda in time, but the killer died in a subway crash trying to flee from Pete. Pete was now on speaking terms with his family, with a desire to return to his previous career. S.T.R.I.K.E., the UK's version of the US' S.H.I.E.L.D., was the perfect answer to his problem. Now in 2006, Pete has become content with his life. He has lessened the alcohol use; however, he has yet to lose his cigarette addiction which has evolved into a chain smoking issue. In a later sequence, an old-fashioned mutant thug kidnapped Romany as ransom. The only way Pete could retrieve her was to marry his daughter, Tinkabelinos Hardleg (also known as Tink). Reluctantly, Pete arranged the marriage and he got his sister back... and now had a wife. Tink ended up actually falling in love with him, but the feelings weren't mutual because it was discovered that Pete was "sleeping around." The two soon divorced, furthering Pete's beliefs that it was impossible for him to sustain a stable relationship. DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009) Three years later in 2009, S.T.R.I.K.E. sent him to lead a team to defend London from the global-wide apocalyptic event; however, it wasn't outside of London that they needed to worry about, but what was going on inside. The civilians had been turned into the walking dead, causing havoc and chaos throughout the whole city. For nearly a day, Pete and his comrades' attempted to help as much as possible, but there was only clean-up as the other superhero teams had done most of the work. Despite not being directly the reason for the city's destruction, Pete did feel like it was his responsibility as a S.T.R.I.K.E. member to defend it. Not being able to save those many lives, Pete fell in a deeper depression and a state of insecurity. He handed in his badge, and moved to the United States to try and start fresh while London was being repaired. POST-APOCALYPSE Now living in the United States, the World Without Xavier had taken over the lives of several, Pete was one of them. This new "alternate" Peter Paul Wisdom suffered the same mourning because of his mother's death. His mother was killed by a mutant serial killer who was targeting Pete's whole family for the sole fact that Pete was a mutant. Pete took his father, Harold, and sister, Romany, and went into hiding. Harold was soon killed and Romany captured, for the belief that she was also a mutant. Losing his entire family, Pete became a vigilante, protecting his beliefs: mutant freedom. He founds his way to Jus Soli and joined with other crusaders to act upon justice. After WwX had passed, Pete soon realized from his experience that the X-Men are effective in establishing peace and freedom when they are at their best. Prior, he believed that the X-Men were self-righteous and naive, destroying everything in front and behind them. He then understood their ideology and wanted to use his abilities and skills to cooperate with others in defending the world. Pete approached S.H.I.E.L.D., using his time with the MI-6, Black Air, and S.T.R.I.K.E. as his resume. This was around the time the Purifiers rose up and made their mark. As a mutant with possible emotional ties to the event, Pete was benched because he could potentially compromise the mission. Not wanting to risk his new job with S.H.I.E.L.D., he didn't disobey this time; however, when he learned the school of mutants was bombed leaving many killed and injured, he once again felt that he could have done something to prevent it. A couple of missions and assignments after, the Skrulls had invaded Earth-- in particular, the Skrulls used a Complacency Wave Device to brainwash the majority of people on Earth. S.H.I.E.L.D. was susceptible to this, meaning that Pete was one of the brainwashed. Not in control, he was tasked to hunt down and capture any mind-resistant heroes trying to stop the Skrulls. Once the heroes of Earth won the long and strenuous battle, Pete offered his resources within S.H.I.E.L.D. to Scott Summers, Cyclops, leader of the X-Men to aid them in future battles against threats against the mutant race and population. Through an agreement, Pete became an official liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the X-Men, currently living with the X-Men in supervising the rebuilding of the school after it was attacked by the Purifiers. SAMPLE RP POST: Odors of everlasting perspiration, ammonia-scented drugs, and defile bodily fluids mingled into a united fragrance of the men's restroom. Obscene profanities tarnished the damaged stall doors that were somehow still hanging by loosened nails. The once-polished pearl-shined tiles cracked in every way possible-- not to mention the yellow stains that had eventually accumulated to become its own adhesive. Flatulence, wet hacks, and the occasional erotic moans made up the harmonies of the loo, which ironically transformed from a place of self-renovation to the metaphorical "anus" of Satan Lounge: a bar made distinctive for allowing virgins to advertise their sex and scoundrels whose only hobby is to "get some." But most eminently, Satan Lounge was the local attraction for the drug-dealing creeps and clowns of the city. The man currently occupying the one of three toilet chambers was none of those; as for he was the infamous Peter Wisdom. As a working spy, this British agent is adept in all breeds of deceit, including his current faux American accent to eclipse his true identity as a British bloke. To compliment his calling, Wisdom is also an stubborn worker, which is the sole reason he's succumbing to the atrocious depths of the club-- in opposition to the commands of the higher authority, he decided to seek out the criminal mastermind involved in the polluted act of mutant trafficking, which could be considered a global crisis. And as of recently, Wisdom was pulled from the case due to the near exposure of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s involvement in calling for justice. Like he cared. Through hidden connections, Wisdom has traced all the footsteps and fingerprints, eventually leading him to this very location. "Bollocks," he said with muffled whispers; whispers in case there were other restroom occupants near him. Squatting on the toilet, as it was a literal "piss-poor" excuse for a toilet, Pete's jet-black tie had accidentally dipped into the brown waters beneath him. Pausing for a moment, it looked as if his all of his veins would be popping out of his flesh. He decided to unravel the tie around his neck and simply ditch it; now he appeared more casual than he was expecting to be. In the previous half hour, his ears have been victim to those harmonies of "flatulence, wet hacks, and the occasional erotic moans," and he wishes to clean forget the constant "fapping," which occurred in the stall next to his. But he did not come here just to bear witness to those coarse actions because there were certain keywords he turned attention to: "muties," "mutants," "in here," "cash," or "bitch, you better give me that stack before I bust a cap in yo' ass." How brainless and deficient Pete thought of these hoodlums. At least in England, dealers had the decency to act above suspicion; but here? No. There were a particular group of individuals who could walk across the street with a plastic zip-lock bag of cocaine hanging out of their sagging ass-pockets. Silence. Wisdom discovered he was now alone. Finally. Pinching his nose with his thumb and index finger he softly kicked the door open, almost accidentally breaking the hinges and knocking it down. Without a doubt, the immediate rush of "urine fog" joined the aroma. The long row of urinals was in a worse condition: flush levers that were jammed or automatic flush sensors that never worked-- he couldn't tell the difference, but he did see the piles of various pills and pubic hair dissolving in the golden-tinted water that would never meet the sewage drains. Looking into the mirror, Wisdom saw himself in fragments. Smalls amounts of blood and shards were found in the sinks, washed down to no prevail. He couldn't help but associate himself with the puzzled pieces of glass. Experiencing what it was like to kill, to almost be killed, and to witness loved ones die, he pictured each glass as a piece to his jumbled memory that made him the miserable toerag that he was today. Not expectantly, a handful of party-goers desperately ran into the restroom, wildly searching for a safe house. What the bloody hell was going on? Wisdom paused, scratched his right temple, and abruptly grabbed a man by the shoulders, "What the bloody hell is going on?!" The man was poorly dressed, although it was as if he was trying to come off as a rich and extravagant pimp. All he could blurt out was something like, "They're here!" but Pete wasn't exactly sure because he couldn't quite make out his words over all the screaming voices in the room. That wasn't the problem, though; he now suspected the man in his hands to be a part of the mutant trafficking ring. Pete did not have great reason to claim him so, but it was his gut instinct, and Pete always followed his gut instinct. Before any brash decisions could be made, the restroom door busted open, kicked in most likely, and several men in armored suits wielding batons and guns came storming in. Unlike the man before them, their words were loud and clear: "Where are they? Where are the fucking mutants?" Who is the bugger that turned attention from the traffickers to the mutants?! Dumb, but smart. Dumb. But smart. |

Before I review this, I need to ask if you're going to stay around this time. You're a good writer, but we need that promise from you, especially with you picking up a character who has had about six players. |

I can say, most definitely, that I"m planning to stick around; that, I promise. This is the only role-play site I'll currently be on. My complications last time is that I was trying to juggle too many things at a time without realizing that I'll eventually be burned-out. I cannot promise activity if something crucial or urgent suddenly or abruptly pops up in my real life, although if anything like that happens, I'll make sure to notify the site. It probably won't because my life is pretty boring. Though, I really appreciate the concern, which made me assure not just you guys, but myself as well that I'll try my best to be committed! |

Well naturally we understand if real life happens to turn upside down, just as long as we know about it. I'll preface with saying I know you've gotten the permission to be working with the X-men from Cyclops player, but if you are having him work out of the Worthington Complex, please make sure you talk to Archangel's player too. Mostly this is a pretty good app; you have a good understanding with Wisdom, that much is obvious. If anything, all I really need you to do is clean up some history: The Otherworld stuff has to go. I appreciate this is a really brief reference, but Otherworld only exists here simply as a delusion of Jamie Braddock and is a very recent in game development. Apocalypse - the team that were deployed to Paris and then London actually stayed there for several hours after Death was taken down and dispatched most (not all of course) of the converts. Aside from that, it was a very sudden attack and so by the time any team was dispatched there, the team of X-men, Brotherhood and Hellfire etc, would already have made a lot of progress. The bomb bit is sort of overkill - where did he even get the bomb from anyway? Basically, simplify this a little and scale the timeframe back appropriately. It would have been a bigger, harder job to rebuild London than to stop the converts as the centre of the city was very badly hit. Post Apocalypse is mostly okay. I don't get why they would have fled to the US though; their stance on mutants would have been painfully obvious. Depending on when this all happened, wouldn't the family have gone to Jus Soli? It would be good if you could include some sort of reaction to the Purifiers plot, before you talk about the Skrulls as currently it is missing from your history. Other than that, good job all around. If you need help please contact me or another member of staff or just post when you're done. Thanks. |

It's not because I don't want to talk to Angel's player, but I've realized that for Pete's situation, it'd be best for him to locate in the "Independent and Transitional Apartments" area. If there are any other troubles of issues with the changes, I'll be glad to fix them until Pete is all set to go! I replaced the Otherworld concept by changing Tink's history. I made her a mutant with a super-villain father. Pete ended up marrying her to save Romany. Since Tink is a canon character, I'd understand if this is too much of a change, and I can take out the marriage completely. Original:

Okay, that was just my fault for not reading enough into the site history. I fixed it by scaling down the time-frame like you asked, and I'd like to think that it is a more believable situation now, which does give Pete more depth. Original:
Altered to:
For some reason, I was thinking that I should have had him in the United States before he joined S.H.I.E.L.D.-- actually, I don't know what I was thinking, haha! Well, I changed it so it makes sense now. Hopefully? Original:
Altered to:
I decided that S.H.I.E.L.D. had benched Wisdom during the Purifiers event; for two reasons being the following: 1. He was a freshly new agent and still needed to learn that the US has different procedures than the UK does, and 2. He was a mutant and they believed that his emotional ties to the Purifiers vs. Mutant battle could have compromised any S.H.I.E.L.D. mission. Original:

Thanks for making the changes and sorry to the small delay in getting back to you. If he's going to be based out of the Apartments, that's fine as long as Cyclops permits it, but remember the school is still a building site and most of the NYC X-men are at the Worthington Complex, with only a few at the school to help oversee the building. Even if it's only temporarily, I think there would be more scope for play at the Complex right now. I'm happy with most of the changes but I still have a couple of things to say: I'm not entirely sure the Tink stuff makes sense, but it's so weird that it's just typical of Wisdom so I'm actually inclined to leave it in. Even if he was benched during Purifiers, he would still have been witness to the horrors - Mutant Town was attacked repeatedly, Alex Summers was arrested and put on trial for crimes committed as the Horseman War and also NYC was ultimately attacked by Sentinels that the Purifiers had been stockpiling. I'd expect a reaction to the sentinels at least, if he was in the city at the time. When you're done, please post a response and if you need help feel free to get in touch. Thanks. Also, please do not embolden your dialogue in posts unless you are emphasising a word here or there, or quoting the line of another character. Thanks. |
