JP Nick Fury/ Doctor Nemesis

A slightly portly Caucasian male stepped out of the back of the luxury, the door held open by a burly guy dressed to the nines in a black suit. "Thanks, Simms. Just uh, just circle the block or get some lunch or something. I'll call you guys when the meeting is over." The man nodded and got back into the car, which then pulled into traffic.

Taking a deep breath and buttoning his coat, the man walked into the daunting structure and to the front desk. "Excuse me ma'am, my name is William Linderman, but everyone calls me Billie. I'm here on behalf of Horizon Labs; we're doing some pretty nifty stuff with pharmaceuticals, and I'll be honest. We here you guys have some of the best minds around. But I'm rambling, I have an appointment with Doctor Bradley?"

The receptionist looked through her files then nodded when she found the one she was looking for. "Okay, Mr. Linderman. I have you right here, so let me just call up and let him know." She dialed up to his office and waited until he picked up. "Hello, Dr. Bradley? A Mr. Linderman is here for his 1:20 appointment."

Things were silent for a bit as James reclined and sipped the seemingly ever present cup of liquor of some kind in his hand. "Okay, send him up. I've got nothing better to do right now I suppose." She said okay, then turned back to William. "Doctor Bradley will see you now. Here's a map on how to get to his office. It's a lot easier than trying to explain it; have a nice day!"

"And, you have a nice day too, uh.." Billie Linderman said, and he tilted the little name plaque on her desk up, "Sandy." He pointed a finger at her and mimed a kicky little gunshot accompanied by a click of his tongue. Then, he followed the little map to Dr. Bradley's office, his cheerful manner remaining until he stepped into the office and cocked an eyebrow at the glass in the doctor's hand.

"Starting early, are we?"

After he'd talked to Sandy and told her to send the whoever he was representative for whatever company, he reached into his desk and pulled out a cube of all different colors. It was a Rubix Cube, and it had been turned around so many times it would take days to solve; if it wasn't him. Cracking his knuckles, he tossed it up, then caught it and began working. 3.25 seconds later, it was solid on each side.

"Beat my own time, not too bad, James. Not too bad." Leaving the cube on the desk, he picked his drink up and took a sip just as a not too healthy looking fellow walked into his office and joked about his "habit"...but he could stop whenever he wanted. He turned to him, and his blue eyes tinted to an eerie, glowing green.

"Heh," he grinned as he dropped his feet and stood up. Then he closed the door to the office. "You know how it is for men like us. Running a business is hard work; a little something to take the edge off is welcome from time to time, especially when you've got a healing factor. Wouldn't you say...Fury?"

With a smirk, Linderman clicked a button on his cuff, and his image flickered into nothingness. "I told Coulson this wouldn't fool you," Fury said, and he took a seat, "But it fooled those it was meant to fool, didn't it, Bradley. So, here we are. Two businessmen. You know why I'm here?"

He poured a drink for Fury if he wanted one and offered him a seat before returning to his own. "Coulson's a good man, one of the best you've got. The tech's solid, but it's like you said. It's damn hard to fool these eyes; too many ways of weeding out inconsistencies. Plus I can still make a woman swoon at 100 paces."

Fury wasted no time and got down to brass tacks, asking him if he knew his reason for the visit. "I could warrant a guess, but a wise man doesn't guess when he has the source right in front of him. So, so I don't jeopardize my perfect win - loss record, why don't you tell me."

Fury took the offered drink, not surprised that Bradley knew exactly how he took it, and said, "Well, if you were easy to fool, I probably wouldn't be here."

He sipped the drink, "Good," he said, raising the glass slightly in something less than a toast but more than a comment on the alcohol, "As I see it, Doctor, X-Corps sits in a very unique place in the current topography of the modern world as it is. You're not vigilante, yet you rage alongside the X-Men when the planet is threatened.

You're not sanctioned, yet you work with the government. You're not charity, yet you championn the disenfranchised of the genetically enhanced. Hard to classify things make my head hurt, Bradley, right in my skull behind where my eye used to sit."

Fury set the glass on the empty table, "There's been some problems with what exactly you do here, and Shield has some problem with having a serious lack of technical and scientific genius. I'm here to suggest a way that both of our problems can be solved, mutually beneficially. We are both old men, despite our youthful glow, we've both seen enough of the world to know how these things work. It's just a matter of crunching numbers, so to speak."

"Good point. If it's easy or not worth it, there's hide nor hair of you to be seen. Vintage...'29 I think." He sat and listened to Fury, who as he'd expected no less of, had come to him with some very interesting information, and a similarly interesting offer.

And of course, it benefited him, elsewise he wouldn't have bothered. "Too true. X-Corp is a beast with many backs, and SHIELD...well. You can't be the world's premiere defense force if your gear isn't always above and beyond the competition. I like what you've brought to the table, Fury. Just give me the specifics and I think we'll have an accord."

"Specifics have a tendency to change, given the new norm," Fury said, "But at it's basest, I'm suggesting that I give you a list of what I want and a collection of the latest, greatest alien tech as it is recovered in the aftermath of the Invasion. I get some shiny new toys and you get some shiny new science." He spread his gloved hands and said, "Either way, both of us get to play."

"That's true I suppose. But I'll be honest, Nick." His face slowly broke into a small grin, that grew until it reached that stage that was usually reserved for shooting Nazi clones in the face or kicking evil in the gigingamabobs. "You had me at hello." He stood and held his hand out, still grinning. "I haven't had this much fun since we used to roll hoops down the street. Good lord it was boring back then."

Taking Bradley's hand, Fury smirked, "And kick the can, Doctor, we were easily amused back in the day, weren't we." Rising, he said, "I'm approaching my 100th birthday, a milestone I know you've already reached. I'd like to blow out the candles on that cake. I'll save you a piece with a rose on it." He reached into his trenchcoat's inside pocket and pulled out a flashdrive, "Three terabytes worth of fun time. I'll set up a liaison. Our first project has a deadline of a week, I'm sure you're going to want to get right to work."

They shook on it, as they both knew each other and trusted the other not to go back on a sweet deal so they didn't need a contract for the moment. "Indeed we were, but back then the world was in black and white, you could buy a four bedroom house and a brand new station wagon for under thirty grand, and the word "nuclear" was a good thing. It was a different time."

He grinned when Nick told him he was nearing a century; that sounded about right when he thought about how old he was during WW2. "Well when you reach a century, it's good to know you still have the vitality of a man a quarter that old." He took the flashdrive and looked at it like a child who'd just gotten their most wanted toy for Christmas, then he glanced back up to Fury.

"And as usual, Commander, you're correct. Three whole terabytes? Might take me a few hours." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a card and handed it to him. "It'll be easier to deal with me when setting up. You couldn't tell from looking, but I work with a lot of incompetents. And a week? Excellent. I look forward to working with you, Fury."
