Timeframe: December 15th, 11:45 am The wedding was over. The honeymoon was over. It was now time to get back to life, get back to the rest of the world. And Rahne Russell was ready for it. The school was almost completely rebuilt, and along with it, as Sylvia, the young woman Warren Worthington had contracted to oversee the construction, had said, a cabin on school grounds, out by the woods, just for the new family. And speaking of family, there was one member of the family Rahne decided she had to get more acquainted with, her sister-in-law, Lissa. It would be a day just for the two of them, she decided. Just the two werewolves, some… girl time as it were. When Rahne had first met Lissa, back at the airport some time ago, she was just newly emerged, wild, out of control. She had nearly gone out of control, and she walked away with a deep-seeded anger with her brother. An anger that caused her to opt to live in England with Moira McTaggert, Rahne’s mother. And now Moira lived here, in Mutant Town - one of the very very few humans who opted to live here. That was a testament to Moira’s courage, Moira’s belief in the possibility of peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans. Soon enough, when the school was rebuilt, the family would be living in relatively close proximity. It was exciting. She had called ahead, made sure Lissa was aware that there was to be a day for just the two of them, to spend time around town, and spend the day getting to know each other and have a good time doing it. Rahne knocked at the door to the apartment Moira and Lissa lived in. Moira was out at work by now, probably waist-deep in some marvel of genetic science, making the discoveries that she had built her career upon. “Hullo, Lissa! Ye ready t’ head out?” Rahne called out through the door, waiting for a response. It was a brisk, chilly day out, typical of mid December in New York, so Rahne had prepared accordingly. A thin, turtle-necked sweater. Brown corduroy pants. And her own mutant-born fur coat. It was Mutant Town, after all. If she couldn’t walk around town in the fur she was meant to walk around in, then what good was it anyway? |

"Alright Lissa, no reason to be nervous about today, just family. First real quality time you get to spend with your new sister-in-law. You already made the worst first impression possible, there is really no lower that you could go." The young werewolf woman said trying to not freak out or get overly anxious about this day alone with Rahne. She was fine with initially, but then she just kept thinking about it to the point her over thinking would lead to crazy situations of the unlikely variety, until she was just starting to real herself in. Moira was always good to talk to when she would get like this, she always knew the right thing to say. She was just awesome like that. It wasn't until her mutation kicked in that she was like this though. Worried about any little thing that could cause a loss in control, unsure of what new allergies were present in her digestive system that could make her incredibly sick. Just so much trouble for something that she never wanted, but was slowly starting to accept, especially living in Mutant Town. There were just so many different kinds of people in this one little area, and almost everyone was accepting of each other, at least more so than she knew in other places she had lived. Namely Los Angeles. Though she still found herself a bit homesick at times, but what young person didn't get like that when they were just starting their own lives far away from their childhood. “Hullo, Lissa! Ye ready t’ head out?” "Yeah, just a sec, just putting on my jacket." Lissa responded from her room. She was not really in the process of putting it on, but decided there was no more that could be done before she grabbed her hoodie and slipped it over her head before opening the door, grabbing her purse as well. She then opened the door and was a little surprised that Rahne was standing there in her semi-wolf form. She wasn't expecting that. But she shrugged it off mentally before giving Rahne a hug as a greeting. "So what's first on the menu, sis?" Lissa asked, figuring she would get the most out of this sister-in-law deal. She always wanted a sister after all. |

Really, Rahne shouldn't have been surprised to see Lissa not wearing the wolf on her sleeve as it were. Even with all he had been through, all he had grown, all he had seen and done, there was a hesitance in Jack concerning his own alternate shape. And there were times Rahne suspected that there would always be some degree of hesitance. Yes, he was working on taking his level of control to a new peak, reflecting his newfound confidence in himself, but Rahne worried for him sometimes. That was her job, after all. But Lissa? Lissa had not experienced Jack's growth curve. The wolf was still new and frightening, no, horrifying to her. Lissa needed time, as Rahne saw it, time to get comfortable in both her own fur and the fur of those around her. Plus, well... "I like to let the wolf be out there an' visible when I'm in Mutant Town," she explained after meeting Lissa's embrace warmly with a smile and a wagging tail, but not too strongly since Rahne did pose a risk of hurting others if she wasn't cautious. "'Tis the only town in the world so far as I know that'll embrace the differentness." Rahne's smile only widened when Lissa tossed in that "sis" moniker. It was true, to a certain degree. All it took was one single day, one ceremony, and now not only were two lives bound together, but the lives connected to those lives were similarly bound. Lissa Russell, Jack's sister, was now Rahne's sister-in-law. And that was a wholly exciting prospect. "Well. I was thinkin' we could get some lunch. There's this place a few blocks away from here that makes the best roast beef sandwiches, the - best. An' I dunno about you, but I am very fond of muh red meats." |

"Lunch sounds great. I forgot about breakfast at the start of the day, and before I know it it was time to meet up with you. I'm famished." She chuckled lightly. The thought of juicy red meat did make her even more hungry, though she wasn't always a fan of red meats personally, there wasn't necessarily a whole lot of what she used to love that she could eat anymore thanks to the mutant allergies she now possessed, which from what she had heard, were similar to her brothers. "I could probably eat a horse... and I'm really not sure if I am joking about that or not right now." She added with a smile as she closed the door behind her and locked up before getting ready to leave the apartment complex. "Lead the way, I'm still getting used to the town, haven't discovered every little gem around here, but I know quite a few places to have fun." She added, noting her own growing familiarity with the odd little section of the Big Apple. She was growing to love the city, though she yearned for a little place she could just relax without all the noise. Somewhere quiet and natural. She was never big into nature until her mutation and she started to appreciate the beauty of it. She was very much a city girl outside of that. "So how have things been? Not sure I want to know everything about the honeymoon, but anything that doesn't involve my brother naked, I am completely fine with. Not sure he would want you to tell me that stuff anyways, don't think you'd be comfortable with it either. So yeah... how's life?" She stumbled around the embarrassing thought of her brother and his new bride doing naughty stuff. She knew it happened, she just did not want to think about it. What sister did? |

"Och, ye cannae let yuirself do that. Breakfast is the meal ye definitely dinnae skip under any circumstances. So we'll let it slide this time, but in the future..." Rahne wagged her finger teasingly, and then sighed. "I sounded like muh mother right then, I know I did." She shrugged her shoulders, and the two of them headed out, walking down the stairs towards the street below. It was a nice enough day outside. Slightly overcast, and chilly, but considering how bad it could have been at this time of year, it wasn't too rough. Besides, there was a part of Rahne, the part that was visible on her skin, in the pawlike structure of her feet, in the tail that swayed back and forth with each step, that thrilled to colder temperatures. Hell, she had no problem traipsing around in the buff during a good snowfall so long as she had her fur on. "I... cannae recommend horse. Never tried it. Now hadrosaur, I've tried. Though I defy anyone to manage to eat one no matter how hungry ye get," Rahne chuckled as they made it out onto the pavement and into the daily life of Mutant Town. She loved being like this and not standing out like a sore thumb. She was a wolf-woman and despite that, just another face in the crowd. "Oh, pish, as if I'd tell you anythin' like that anyway. Trust me, ye're safe. I've nary a single inclination t' dish the dirty details with ye," Rahne laughed. Truth be told, she wasn't even inclined to talk about sex with her closest friends. It wasn't a comfortable topic of discussion for her - well, when she was sober, of course. "We did meet some interesting people, though," Rahne said with a nod of her head. "People like us. Which - believe me - I dinnae think existed outside of you, Jack an' muhself, but they do." |

"Yeah, you kinda did." Lissa laughed slightly as Rahne asked if she sounded like her mother, Moira, from the half serious lecture about breakfast. She found it humorous. "And like my mother too... only completely different accent from what I remember." Lissa muttered softly. "I just can't help it, I've always been a night owl... wolf, whatever, and I just can't get myself to agree with mornings and until I get a job or decide on a college, I unfortunately don't always have much of a reason to wake up early and eat breakfast." She explained, though she imagined Rahne already knew plenty of people who did that at the school. Considering many of them were close to Lissa's age after all. Then again... could be completely different set up than she was ever used to. As they got outside the young wolf in human's skin took a deep breath of the cold winter air. Despite city pollution, she loved this time of year. "I might be an oddball, but I do not miss warm winters of LA. Really loving snow, never had it much growing up. Earliest memory I have of snow was Phil taking me and a few friends to Aspen when he had a business trip when i was 13. Not even going to tell you how often I fell on my face learning to ski." She chuckled heartily. "Not sure if I've had Hadrosaur." She tapped her chin. "Unless that was what those steaks were at your wedding. I felt like such a pig when I went for thirds, and I wasn't even wolfed out. Just tasted sooo good." She licked her lips as the pair continued to walk. Lissa was thankful that Rahne was... well not a prude but... lady like, she figured when it came to intimacy between her brother and her. Lissa still wanted to hear more about him, everything he's been through since the two were separated, those details however... they could stay lost to her forever. However Rahne did say something that piqued her curiosity. "Like us?" Lissa repeated. Then Rahne went onto explain. More lycanthropic mutations? In Europe no less. Interesting development. "Well I'll be damned." She muttered. "What were they like? Anyone my age?" She couldn't help but be curious. No it wasn't about finding a he-wolf to her she-wolf, but someone younger and maybe dealing with it either better or the same as she was that she could relate to or something. Yeah, Rahne wasn't that much older than her, but in terms of maturity Lissa felt like they were leagues apart. "I guess it makes sense, considering all the legends around the world about werewolves, even in places without wolves known to the area anymore there still are some." She paused. "I've been doing some research into it, just out of curiosity. Werewolves and dog physiology stuff. If I'm stuck with it, might as well know everything about it that I can, I guess.... well back to your celtic wolf pack?" |

"Oh, so I sound like the universal mum then, aye? Lovely," Rahne laughed, shaking her head. Joking aside, though, she supposed it as only the natural next step. She'd been caring for children for a good portion of her life, and atop that she had a good many role models to build off of. Soon enough, she supposed, it was really bound to happen. Rahne shook her head as Lissa commented on the weather. Her tail swayed idly from side to side as she spoke. "Nae so odd a' tall. Ye're a wolf, even if the fur an' claws an' whatnot aren't showin'. We're nae meant for tropical climates, for the warmth an' humidity. It can get rough in Utopia on that point. Honestly, 'this the only place I've been where I'm more comfortable wearin' the bare minimum for decency - an' God's honest - if it weren't for decency's sake, I'd have been completely nude the whole time if only 'cause it was so bloody hot." Rahne nodded her head, an excited glint in the eye. "Aye, that it was. Likely even somethin' Jack an' I killed. We did a good lot of hunting in Utopia. Kept food costs down so much, an' was necessary once we got completely cut off by the Skrulls." The lockdown was a rough time for many reasons. Rahne opted not to elaborate on the fact she and Jack both had been transformed into monstrous insectile aliens. Definitely best not to elaborate. That infestation was done. The Brood were sent off, and the antigen to their presence dispersed through the atmosphere. "No foolin' ye," Rahne said with a grin. "Jack an' I went for a day trip to Muir, figurin' the isle would be completely abandoned, only to find ourselves invited t' sit by a campfire an' speak with another lupine couple. Older, though. Maybe late forties, early fifties. 'Twas a bit awkward at first, but they were kind, generous, spiritual in their own right. They spoke of a small pack. Travelers through the highlands. It was... 'twas honestly hard to believe, but... What can I say? We're out there. More of us." She was glad to hear that Lissa was deciding to accept her other self. It was a good decision. You could deny what you were deep down inside, and live in misery. Or you could accept, and adjust, and find the joy in what you are. And this was good. Before too long, they were outside the sandwich shop. And as usual, there was a decent crowd there. "Alright, a word of warnin' t' ye. The woman behind the counter - she's... duck like. Or perhaps a goose? Hard to tell, really. She's absolutely wonderful, though. Ye're never had a pastrami sandwich like the one she makes, an' her roast beef is second to none." |

"Honestly, I think it is lovely." She said, trying to mimic Rahne's accent on the last word. She smiled at Rahne. "Maybe I'm not looking at wanting to be Auntie Lissa any time soon just yet, but, well from what I can tell so far Rahne, you'd be a great mom. Especially if your students are any indication from the brief moment I saw them." Lissa commented, hoping to put any doubt Rahne had about potentially taking that step to rest. "But take your time, live, all that good stuff. I am not going to try and rush anything. Not going to speak for Moira though." She smiled. "Well... good to know you'd prefer to be a nudist Rahne." Lissa muttered with a bit of a laugh. "Not sure I'm going to ever be at that level with my second skin. Not sure I want to be." She accepted that her other side was there, but well, she wanted to keep things separated. It was where she was comfortable, for now at least. "Awesome. I ate dinosaur. I'd say that'd be something to cross off a bucket list... but well until a while ago, I didn't even know dinosaurs still walked the Earth." Lissa smirked. "Any chance you can get me some more of that though? Before you guys make the move back?" She was really hopeful on that. "Anything else tasty too." She licked her lips without realizing it. She wasn't really sure how to relate to the other stuff Rahne mentioned, and wouldn't even know how to discuss what Rahne had not (not that she knew about it). Lissa listened intently about the lupine couple Rahne and Jack met on their honeymoon, taking it all in. Part of her was a little disappointed that they didn't meat anyone close to Lissa's age. But the mention of the possibility of a pack existing did get her a little excited. Hopeful even. "So...any chance we could maybe make a trip to these highlands?" LIssa asked trying not to sound too eager, but if her tail was out, it would have been wagging a bit. Not really realizing how much she wanted to meet more like herself. "Honestly Rahne, I've seen a man who's like half walrus. A duck is honestly a lot less freaky by comparison." Lissa admitted, wondering if she maybe had seen this woman before without realizing it. "Second confession. I've...never had pastrami before. So, here's to new things to try?" |

"Well, we'll see what happens, Lissa," Rahne said with a smirk. She could make no promises, and honestly didn't want to. She knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she and Jack were ready for anything that came their way. The things they'd faced down together, the obstacles they'd overcome, the things that had threatened to tear the two of them apart - they could handle it all, and they could handle parenthood. "Neither of us want to rush it, but if it happens, we'll gladly accept it, an' do a damn fine job of it, too," she chuckled, and glanced over to Lissa almost conspiratorially. "Yuir brother's far more qualified t' be a da than he thinks. Does nae give himself nearly enough credit. An' he's far better with wee ones than he believes he is." Rahne gave off an exaggerated frown and bumped Lissa with her hip. "I did nae say that! Och, puttin' words in muh mouth like that. F'r shame, Lissa. I mean, nae sayin' I couldn't be if I had to, but... the heat of that jungle is a wee bit above muh comfort level," but then Lissa mentioned something a bit more profound, a bit more personal. "Ye're still new at it yet. An' I'm sure ye know plenty of muh story. First changed at nine, could nae change back until I was thirteen... I was horrified with muhself at first. But time, love, acceptance... they helped me feel better about muhself, feel good about muhself. I want the same f'r you. We're family now, an' I want ye to be able to take every experience I've had that could help ye and use it. Consider me an open resource." A slow grin spread across Rahne's face, small and reserved to avoid excessive fang flashing. "I'd like to at some point. T' make sure they're doin' well, that they're nae wanting for anything crucial. I'm sure we could bring you along. They've got their own thing goin' on, a very earth-spirit live-off-the-land embrace-nature kind o' thing, so that may take some gettin' used to." Rahne opened the door up, the bell attached ringing audibly. Now it was just time to wait in the line, which wasn't too terrible. Most of the people in the shop were at tables, eating. Rahne couldn't help but feel a bit excited. This was her favorite place in Mutant Town, the single best eatery around town. One that truly spoke to the carnivore in her soul. "Aye, t' new things to try," Rahne grinned. And before too long, it was their turn. "Well, look at this. Long time no see, Sinclair. You been busy out savin' the world again?" Katalina said, her 'New Yawk' accent thick enough to be noticeable. "Nae so much since the invasion, I'm afraid. Been busy gettin' married," to demonstrate, Rahne lifted her hand and showed off the ring. "No shit! Congrats. You tell 'im he treats you good or he gets a big yellow foot right up his ass," Rahne could only smile. That would not be a problem, she knew. But there was something inherently amusing about Katalina's crassness. "Will do," she nodded her head. "So, open-faced roast beef, light on the gravy, bag a' chips and an iced tea, yeah?" "Aye, ye know me well," Rahne laughed. "An' I've got the bill f'r muh sister-in-law Lissa here, too." "Ahhhh. Butterin' up the new family, eh? I get it, I get it. Anything you want, I can do, blondie. So gimme your best shot." |

“He was like that as a kid too.” Lissa added to Rahne’s obversation of Jack’s insecurities. “But until he left, he was always very protective of me, despite how awkward he always seemed to be. I know for a fact he’d make a great dad.” Lissa smiled, remembering some distant memories when she was very young and how Jack was. If he wasn’t a good brother, she didn’t think she would have been as upset as she was when he disappeared. She loved him dearly, maybe more that he realized, perhaps more than she even realized about herself. It was because of that love she was still hurt because of what he did, she wasn’t sure how long it would take before that wound was completely healed. “Oh you totally said it.” Lissa chuckled, bumping Rahne right back. The black werewolf in human skin loved this, loved laughing again, joking, all of it. “But I hear you, that jungle was a bit on the humid side for my taste. I was just happy I still had some summery dresses to wear, not that I like dresses. Very much a jeans and t-shirt gal.” She added, nodding to Rahne’s claims over being more comfortable buck naked in the heat of that place with wearing all the fur that came with the mutation. “Moira had mentioned some of it when I first started staying with her… usually when I would get upset after an unwanted change. Sometimes I couldn’t go back for a day or two, but those stopped thankfully. I honestly couldn’t imagine what it was like for you at nine for that to happen.” Lissa felt sympathy for Rahne’s case, but smiled as Rahne made it clear she wanted good things for her. “Well… to be honest, I was the complete opposite from how you know Jack.” She admitted. “I was an unruly wild child the moment I hit the teens, and I mean wild.” Lissa wasn’t really sure if it was the best topic to discuss about with Rahne, but there was a point she was thinking about making. “It just…had me thinking… you and Jack get more wild when you transform right? Like in your head, less inhibited or whatever?” She asked almost sheepishly. “Is it possible that our transformations were caused because of repressing those wild feelings? At least the initial one. That maybe I only manifested later than you two was because I was…not sure what exactly is the best word to use.” It was a theory, something she had been looking into since she lived with Moira, maybe certain things were rubbing off. Not that Lissa had any intention of pursuing the same career. It was more psychological or philosophical stuff that she thought about concerning her other half. “So they’re wolf hippies. You have to take me now. We can sing Kumbay-howl, and other stuff.” Lissa was now just being playful about the topic. Though she was trying to tone it down as Rahne seemed to be catching onto that eagerness. She wasn’t going to get her hopes up, any time she ever did she was disappointed miserably. Except with Rahne marrying Jack at least… she then wondered if there was some wood she could knock on. Rahne and the duck woman got reacquainted quickly enough. The smell of meat in the air had more of Lissa’s attention. Katalina did seem amusing with the level of crassness, it reminded her of some old friends she used to have before she tried to cut ties with that crowd, for reasons other than crassness. “Nice t’meet you.” Lissa responded. “Um… Rahne says you have the best pastrami, so I’ll take that plain, chips and some water.” She repeated the order in her head, figuring to try and go with something safe considering her mutated allergies. |

"Awright, got it. You go take a seat an' I'll have your stuff up in a bit," Katalina said with a nod of her head before getting to work. "Heh, well, Jack can be a bit of a..." Rahne sighed as she struggled for the words. "A bit of a dunderhead, as ye full well know." She gestured to a nearby table, small, round, with a few chairs around it and a napkin dispenser in the middle. Simple setup for a simple place. Certain that Lissa would follow her lead, she sat down. "Jack... for a long time, existed under the delusion that he was a danger to everyone. That he just... that he was not to be trusted, not to allow anyone close to 'im for fear of hurting 'em. That's what he fears. Losin' control an' hurtin' the people he loves most. Granted, he's moved past that, an' is far more comfortable in his own skin that he's ever been, but he still had that problem for a very long time. An' I know he's sorry that he hurt ye so. An' I'm glad that ye've now got this chance." Rahne drummed her claws along the tabletop, clicking them rhythmically as Lissa told her story. Told her theory. "'Tis possible. Likely, even. My wolf form jumped out at me early. I was but a wee girl, but one who had lived her whole life under a strict, cruel man's thumb. I'd never known freedom, so maybe... maybe ye're right an' 'cause I was so repressed, my mutation rebelled against that on pure reaction." Rahne smiled, nodding her head. "Then we'll go there. Next time 'tis time to check in on 'em, next time we visit, ye're comin' with. I promise yet that. They're gonna insist ye wear yuir fur, though. 'Tis a matter of faith t' them. So ye may have to make certain ye're comfortable with that before we go." "Order's up, fuzzy! Come get it!" Katalina's voice called, and immediately, Rahne hopped up to grab the plates and returned to the table. She was clearly pretty eager to eat. "Speakin' of which, ye been practicing? Spendin' any time in wolf form just to get a bit more comfortable with it?" Lissa had mentioned accidental changes, and getting frustrated with them, but intentional ones? Rahne wasn't sure. She hoped that that was happening. It would help Lissa adjust, grow more comfortable with herself. |

Lissa followed her sister in law to the small table where their conversation would resume as before. "I understand why he did it now that I've been walking in his shoes." Lissa admitted. "At least to a certain extent. I just wish he would have done something to let me know he was alive and still out there. Not like I could have gotten out of school growing up to go looking for him or anything." Lissa muttered softly. "And I'm not...angry about him leaving as so much... taking so long to try and meet again." She sighed. "Ya know what I'm saying?" She didn't want to be little her brother and Rahne's husband, but she was trying to be open about her feelings rather than keep everything inside. She was happy Rahne was agreeing with her theory. She put a lot of thought in it, and while she wasn't a scientist like Moira, Lissa did have some pride in that theory. Just wanting to get someone else's opinion about it all. Rahne even said that Lissa could go with them to see the werewolf hippies the next time they leave the country, on a condition. "My fur?" Lissa questioned not feeling entirely secure. "Okay I guess...but...can I still wear regular clothes?" Lissa asked not really wanting to be naked around strangers, even with the fur. Their order came up and Rahne left. Leaving Lissa a brief time to think about her wolf half. It scared her, but maybe not for the reasons Rahne thought. Lissa always figured herself wild before the mutation, she worried she might completely lose herself if she let go. It was less about hurting others and more about forgetting who she was and what was really important in some wild ecstasy of her animal side. When Rahne returned she asked about transforming. Lissa looked at the plate licking her lips before responding. "Yeah once in a while... usually when something heavy needs to be moved. Not to mention forcing myself to do it when I ate chocolate not knowing what it could do to me. And some other times." Lissa explained. "I can shift into it at will, shifting back can be a problem at times." She explained. "I will say the extra strength can really come in handy, claws too when I don't feel like looking for a can opener." Lissa joked before she picked up her sandwich and took a bite. "Thif if delifus." She said with a mouthful. |

Wolf Form

"I do," Rahne nodded her head slowly. She was not going to defend Jack's lapse in judgement in that regard. It was a mistake, a big one that could have cost him any kind of relationship with his sister. He could have lost that entirely, and he knew that. He was fully aware of the grave error he'd made in shying away from people who could have loved and supported him for so long, and he was compensating for that. So she felt no need to try and refute Lissa on that point. She was right. She was absolutely right and well within her rights to feel hurt. "They may find that odd, but I see no reason why not," Rahne smirked, thinking back on that day. What a time that was. Awkward, absolutely. But once they got comfortable, once things eased up, it had been a wonderful time. An experience Rahne was glad to have had and would be glad to have again. Rahne eagerly took that first bite into her sandwich, and oh, yes, that was definitely it. This place certainly hadn't lost its touch, that was for sure. Any excuse to come out here for lunch was a good one in her mind's eye. "Well, that's good," Rahne said with a grin and a slight wagging of her tail. That was one thing about this form of hers - her emotions were practically worn on her sleeves. Right there, plain and obvious for anyone to see. "The more casual time ye spend in yuir wolf form, the more comfortable it'll be for ye. May sound like an odd thing, but I promise ye it isn't. I spent time resentin' muhself as a child. Guilty an' ashamed of the monster I'd become. 'Tis an awful feeling, an' I'd spare anyone else that if I can. I've learned there's no shame in bein' both a lovely young woman and a strong, proud wolf. Ye're both, Lissa. Like me. An' that's a wonderful thing." |
