About two months ago, Dee had something of a meltdown when Moonbeam showed up at the office sporting a brand new, living, breathing body. Some words were exchanged that she now wished she could take back because in hindsight they were hurtful. Her friend had gone and was till going through something frightening and unknown and she needed all the support that she could get. But Dee let her own desires cloud her judgment. She let her envy for what Moonbeam now possessed take over her. For fear of what could have happened if she stayed, Dee fled to do some thinking. Once she had had enough time to cool down she apologized to her friend and the others as hard as that was. It was time to find answers not covet. At the end of the day she just wanted what was best for her friend.

Today Dee was out and about in Mutant Town visiting a friend that she had made outside of the team. Her name was Kelly and she was an anomaly just like Dee. The woman was unable to keep a solid form for more than a couple of minutes before she turned back intangible. The two of them had hit it off about a month ago and had been hanging out ever since whenever they got downtime. “Uuuum alright,” said Dee. “Tom Cruise or Terry Crews?”

Kelly tapped her chin as the two walked down the sidewalk. “How about both?”

“Nope, gotta make a choice, baby cakes.”

“Tom Cruise. As funny as Terry is I think I enjoy Tom’s movies more. I mean did you see the latest Mission Impossibe?”

“Of course I did,” said Dee. “I done seen that thang bout a hunnit times now. Good stuff.”

“My turn,” Kelly said. “Keith Richards or Keith David?”

“Oh that ain’t even a contest, amie. David all day, homme got a voice like no other. Have you he-” Unfortunately their little “who’s the better of two people with similar names” game had to be cut short. The sound of screams up ahead followed by an explosion demanded Dee’s attention. “Call the cops,” she said to her friend. “I’ll see what’s going on.” Instantly she took to the sky to head toward the chaos. Arriving on the seen a few seconds later she saw the front side of a small store starting to become engulfed in flames and a guy standing out front laughing like it was the funniest damn thing he had ever seen. Dee clenched her fists. That dickhead was going down for this, but first she had to get the people inside the store out before any of them were seriously injured. She dropped back to the earth then rushed inside the store through the burning fire.

From what she could see there were only seven people inside, five shoppers and two employees all scared for their lives. “Everyone calm down. Everythang gone be okay. I’m getting ya’ll out of here quick, fast, and in a hurry.” As Dee extended her arms, each person in the building became surrounded in swirls of energy. The people were reduced to their molecules and the energy swept them away from the danger. A second later they all reappeared outside a couple of feet away from the burning building. One of the guys blew chunks all over the pavement. “Oh yea, right. The nausea will wear off in a minute or five. Right now I got a jackass to beat.”

“Well aren’t you the heroic type.” The man responsible for the disaster stood before her grinning ear to ear.

“I’m bout to rip you a new one.” Dee threw her arms forward and unleashed a large beam of energy that slammed right into his chest. The guy went flying a couple of feet backwards and hit the ground hard right on his back. He was down, but not quite out of it yet. As the guy pushed up to one knee, his hands lit up with flames. Dee was not about to give him the chance to use those nasty flames to cause anymore damage. Just as he made it to his feet he was hit with twin beams to the kneecaps then a larger one to the chest putting him right back on his ass. “Booya, anotha douchebag down.” By now the sound of sirens began to fill the air signaling the coming of much needed help to put out the fire. Dee strolled over to the guy barely holding on to a conscious state and said, “Hope orange looks good on ya, homme cause that’s all you gone be wearing for awhile.” She smirked as he finally passed out.

Venus and The Surgeon JP

The police force finally arrived on the scene along with the fire department and emergency response team. As the officials went about their business Dee sat down with one of them and explained what had happened. She did not know why the man attacked, probably over something stupid. Once her statement was given she went over to the group of people that bad been caught up in the whole mess and nearly lost their lives. Thanks were given to the teleporter though not necessary. “Just doin’ my job is all.”

Looking up at the evolved that had just helped save his life, or so he let her believe. He had been following this woman for quite some time. Years in fact, she was the vital detail needed to complete his latest piece of work. Rising to his feet he walked over to her and held out his hand for her to shake. “Miss Milo right?” He wasn’t going to make this too obvious, but he was going to go ahead and plant the seeds of his plan here today and he had surmised following his observations of her that she would take the bait. “I cannot thank you enough for your help.”

“Oui,” she said shaking the older gentleman’s hand. Only in Mutant Town did people really know her name since to the rest of the city and world she was just a suit. “Hey now if ya’ll had the power to help out ya’ll woulda done the same thang. Just doin’ what’s right. You didn’t get banged up none did ya?”

Letting his hand fall back at his side he proceeded to dust off his rather cheap looking suit, he of course knew her name from elsewhere, he had been careful in his research. “I’m fine really, thanks to you Miss Milo.” He flashed her a well-rehearsed smile. “Where are my manners, I am Doctor Russell and of course if I had the power to improve someone’s life I would do so.”

“Pleasure meetin’ ya Doc Russell. Too bad it had to be cause ya needed rescuin’ from some crazed maniac. Tell me, you were here. What made that guy go off like that?” She looked over her shoulder at the mutant now wearing a null cuff as he sat in the back of a squad car, thrashing about like a caged animal.

“I’m really not sure; he was talking to himself, muttering in fact. I couldn’t hear what about though. Then he just went off on one.” Shrugging as he too looked back at the mutant that was now cuffed and sat in the back of the squad car. Of course he had played a role in setting this whole little scene up. But the mutant in question didn’t know that and there were no ties linking back to him.

“Hm,” she stroked her chin. It did not matter now since the cops had him in custody. They would interrogate the guy once they got him downtown. “Well since my job here is done, guess I’m gone be on my way then to tell the folk back at X-Corps what happened. It was good meeting ya doc.” Dee saluted the doctor before turning around and lifting off the ground to take flight.

“Hold on a moment.” He waited for her to turn her attention back to him. “This may sound incredibly forward of me. But this is not the first time we have met Miss Milo.” Clearing his throat again as he formulated the words in his mind. “When I was a younger Doctor, I worked within a series of labs. Those particular labs had a small a little girl growing up in them.” He offered her another of his well practiced smiles as he played his game of winning her over. “What I’m trying to say is, I understand your case, and well I might be able to help you out if you ever need it.”

“Hm?” Dee turned around to face him. He claimed that the two of them had met before. It was possible that she saved his life in the past or something. It was hard to keep track of every single life that was in trouble since every other month a new disaster was happening. She landed. “What exactly are you sayin’, doc?” After the manifestation of her powers, Dee was taken in by a Dr. Franklin and spent a majority of her life in the facility where she worked. She looked him over trying to see if she recognized him.

“I am aware of what your powers took away from you Miss Milo.” He had been perfecting the way to carry out the procedure out. He hadn’t tried it out properly yet, but his projections showed that it was more than capable of doing it. “I can give you back what you lost Miss Milo.”

For a moment she did not say anything. There was no way that he could bring back her family. Their bodies had been burned beyond reconstruction when she exploded that night. “Y-you sayin’ that…” The only possible thing he could give her that was taken away was humanity. She did not recognize him from the facility, but if he knew things about her that only those people and her coworkers knew. “You sayin’ I could have a body again? A life, a real life?”

He wanted to smirk, he was pleased. The hook had been set and the bait was taken. It was just a matter of time until he carefully reeled her in. Nodding in response, “I can give you a body, a real functioning body.” It wouldn’t cost her anything, at all. He would do all the work pro-bono or so he would let her think. “You can have a real life again. To do with as you see fit.”

All she could think about were the many possibilities. “For so long I’ve gone without beein’ able to feel anythang physically.” She had forgotten what it felt like to hold someone’s hand, to feel the breeze against her skin on a hot, summer day. So much she had gone without because of the lack of a true physical form. It would be a real miracle for her have a body once again. “How you plan on doin’ that? Ain’t nobody been able to figure anythang out so far.”

The science behind it was long and complicated and not something he was going to go through right now. “There is a biological process that allows one to grow cells outside of the body. I can use that process to grow you a whole body.” The science itself was relatively new and it was untested but the figures and projections pointed at it being successful. “It will take a little time, but it is completely safe.”

“What do I have to do?” She would give anything to have flesh and blood body again. Being stuck as a being of pure energy had its perks, but far too many downfalls. Maybe if she finally got what she always wanted her mental state would correct itself. She was so tired of the mood swings, the depression, the ill-temper. Dee just wanted to be like everyone else so to speak.

“That’s the joy of this procedure. You have to do nothing for now. I will do the science and when I am ready. I will contact you again.” He reached into his jacket pocket and took out a business card, one that he had prepared for this very moment, before holding it out to her. “You can contact me through those numbers.”

All of this probably sounded too good to be true, but Dee did not care. If there was a chance for her to have a body she was going to take it no matter the consequences that may come. He was one of the people that helped take care of her so there was nothing that she had to worry about. From what she could remember everyone at the facility had been kind to her, even the ones that saw her as little more than a science project did not show any ill-intent. She accepted the card happily. “Je ne peux pas croire que ça arrive. Merci, Doctor Russell. This the best damn thang to ever happen to me in years.”

And the bait was taken, he would do the work, and she would get her. “It’s the least I could do for someone that helped me today.” Hopefully the process would not take him too long and he would be able to push his other projects forwards sooner rather than later. He had expected it to be a little harder too, but desperate times called for desperate measures he supposed. Luckily he was not in such a position himself.
