Time: Afternoon Date: February 25th The move was complete, they weren't settled in yet and they were living out of cardboard boxes, but they were moved in nonetheless and the place was theirs. Billy was still riding the high that came with the fact that he now had his first home with the man he loved. The previous day they'd picked up the keys and began moving stuff in. Boxes had been piled up in the various rooms and slowly they were working their way through unpacking the important stuff first; the TV, the video games and the comics or so Billy had joked when they were moving some of the kitchen stuff that Billy's adoptive parents had helped them get the previous week. Today Billy had spent some of his time unpacking some of his stuff, but after lunch he'd decided he needed to get out a bit and explore his new surroundings. He knew Mutant Town fairly well, he'd been here quite a few times over the past few years. But there were things he needed to find to help him settle in properly; a comic shop being one of those things. It really wasn't that important when it boiled down to it, Billy could be anywhere he wanted in the world when he wanted, so getting to a comic shop was the least of his problems but he'd like a local one, somewhere he didn't have to use his powers to get to. So this led him to the decision of heading out, dressed in baggy jeans with a pac man themed canvas belt and a black hoodie with Captain America's shield logo on he left the house with his set of keys and set off. He wasn't really sure where he was going, but he was just going to walk around and see what he happened to come across. For the first house Billy's meanderings led him to some discoveries which he supposed would be useful when he's playing an adult. A pharmacy, food shops, that sorta thing, but still no signs of a comic shop. So still he continued to walk around, not realizing that his walk had led him close to the Brownstone home of X-Factor Investigations the splinter group of Uncle Alex's X-Factor organisation. Looking up at the building, the idea of being a private eye was kind of appealing to Billy, but then so was everything that sounded cool, being a doctor, a vet, an actor, a super hero. All career paths the teen had wanted to be at one point or another over his life time. Sinking his hands into his pockets it was then that he realised he wasn't quite alone, "Hi!" he offered the woman smile, she appeared to be a little older than him and he was sure he recognised her from somewhere. The School maybe? |

Why was she always the one that would be sent out on coffee runs, even when they were in the middle of an important case and had hit a wall? Sure, they weren’t doing anything at the time but passing the time with whatever they could possibly find to do, while they were waiting for a few of their members to get back to the field, and sure, she would always say yes regardless. And yeah, Paige had been a little antsy and tired of waiting for whatever was going to come back to come back… and maybe that had caused her to be a little snippy… okay, upon a little bit of reflection, Paige could see why she had been asked to do the coffee run this time. And any other time before now; she would probably need to work on how to say ‘no…’ She knew now why she stood at the middle of the line in the only Starbucks that lined the streets of mutant town, something that you would probably find on every other corner anywhere in the rest of the city, waiting for her turn to place her order. The people here were a multitude of shapes, sizes, and colors, and Paige found that she was familiar with a few faces that were walking in and out of the street, just as anyone that had made a home in Mutant Town was. She nodded hellos to a green woman that had snakes for hair, like the mythical greek Gorgon, who wasn’t as menacing as what could be considered her predecessor. She looked in her eyes plenty of times, and she wasn’t turned into stone… yet. The inched forward until Paige was at the front and the clerk, familiar with her, smiled. “Hey, Paige-- the usual?” Paige sighed and gave him a look that was as if to ask if he really had to ask her. “Of course, Jack… of course.” She grinned a little bit and with a chuckle, the clerk turned around and started making her a series of drinks. It didn’t take long for him to finish, as if he had gotten it down to a science by now. “You know how much,” he told her and she nodded her head, reaching into the pocket of her coat and pulling out her wallet, handing him cash soon thereafter. “Keep the change, you’re good me.” She offered, taking the travel-tray of drinks and leaving the store. Mutant town wasn’t a particularly big place, it only took her a few minutes to find herself back at the brownstone and taking the coffees into the kitchen, placing them on the counter. “Coffee’s here!” She shouted out, her calls met with a resounding silence that told her they had gotten a lead on the case while she was waiting in line, and that they had to leave her behind. “Great…” She mumbled, shrugging her shoulders and removing her own drink from its holster in the tray, “Might as well go out, mingle a bit. Try to find out where they went…” She made sure that her badge was clipped around her waist, on her belt that was mostly hidden under the tied-closed coat that she had found herself wearing frequently, lately. Damned weather. She wasn’t out the door again for a minute when she noticed someone there; a vaguely familiar face standing outside the XFI building, studying the features with a dreamy look on his face. She’d met Billy Kaplan once or twice, but mostly in passing and in visits to the Xavier school. Using a gloved hand to push some blonde hair out of her face, she approached him. He noticed her pretty quickly, greeting her a bit excitedly. “Hey—Billy, right?” She asked, mainly for clarification. “Aren’t you with Xavier’s?” Seeing him here reminded her that she still needed to visit the school, like she planned. |

"Yeah I'm Billy," Bills gave Paige a quick smile, it was then the reality warper realised who she was. "You're Jay's sister right? Paige right?" It had been far too long since Billy had seen Jay, but things were well, awkward at best. He hadn't really seen hide nor hair of Jay since he left the school to join the Hellfire Club, maybe it was time to correct. His club did play a part in rescuing Tommy from Skrullos anyway. "Yeah I'm on the faculty now, working with Miss Rahne's class." He was in an exceedingly chipper mood today, compared to a little over a week ago, things had changed completely and right now nothing was going to bring him down off the high that he was riding. "Though I moved into a house er.." Looking over his shoulder he got his bearings as to exactly where he was. "That way." he pointed in the rough direction he'd come from. "So I thought I'd spend today finding all the important things that I might need while living here.. food, comics, films the usual." Giving her a lopsided grin, his priorities were clearly in the right place for someone as geeky as he was. "Sorry I'm rambling, that tends to happen when I'm in a good mood, or I'm talking about something I like." His cheeks flushed red a little Looking back to the Brownstone then back to Paige, "So you work for X-FI now?" He asked a little curiously. |

“I thought so. It’s hard to get you and your brother mixed up because, well—doesn’t Tommy have white hair?” She only knew the twins through Jay, and since he had headed off to the Hellfire Club, she didn’t think that he much kept in touch with his old classmates. She hadn’t from neither Billy nor Tommy since then, because there was really no reason for her to keep in touch with the two. She could’ve known them better, but she knew them about just as well as Hartley knew her before Hartley had been taken in by XFI—in passing, but barely. “Yeah, that’s me. Good to know that you remember me,” Paige returned Billy’s smile with a quick flash of her own. “That’s pretty cool; there was a time I thought about teaching at the school, but I decided against it. The little kids must be easy compared to the teenagers, though, yeah?” She knew how much of a pain it was when she was raising her own siblings and they got into their formative years—especially for Jeb, who only increased in difficulty after he ended up at Xavier’s. He had been there for a few years now, and Paige wasn’t entirely sure, but she was willing to be that he hadn’t calmed down any. Husk sipped from her coffee cup and looked up to the reality warper before her, as he mentioned that he had just moved in and was looking for the essentials. “I could show you around if you like,” Paige offered, moving her coffee down from her face. “I know where at least a few of those things are, and it’d probably take you a little while to find where you’re going. When I first got here it took about two weeks just to get my bearings on directions,” She smiled and chuckled a bit, looking towards the direction that Billy had pointed. He looked to the brownstone and then to Paige, asking if she had was working for XFI now. Paige nodded her head and looked over to the Brownstone, “Yeah. I have been since they started up here… except for, umm, the whole Skrullos thing.” |

"Yeah Tommy has white hair and is always on the go. I have brown hair and I'm the geek of the family. So we're pretty hard to get mixed up, unless well you're colour blind." His smile growing into a quick grin. "Not that I'm implying you are or anything." He added quickly, making sure to explain that he wasn't insulting her, not that he really thought she would, he was just making sure it was clear. Because that's the type of person Billy was. "It's what I've wanted to do for a long time, but I'm going to be leaving the school soon for a while. I've had an offer from somewhere that I really can't turn down. So I'm really excited about that too." He had just over a week left until he began his apprenticeship with Doctor Strange, each day that went by Billy was getting a little bit more excited. Even more so since he had completed the move and was now living with Teddy. "It's a really great job though. The younger kids are really, really good to work with. You get a lot out of it." That was probably the hardest thing about him leaving the school. He was going to miss his friends and the other X-Men, hell he was even going to miss living with Tommy, but he could always see them. The kids however, that was another matter, he wasn't going to be able to see them as much and he was going to miss them. Which reminded him, he really needed to speak to Rahne about when they were going to tell the kids that he was going. "That'd be great!" In response to her offer to show him around the neighbourhood, "Me and Teddy had spent a little while looking around when we were looking at places and I used to intern at X-Corp, but I don't really know the area so all the help getting to know the place would be great." His grin was ever growing and showed no sign of being wiped off his face. "It's really cool that you were there. I've spent quite a bit of time visiting the other half of XF because of Uncle Al. But never been in the Brownstone." He took in her response about Skrullos, but he wasn't sure how to reply to that, it was still very much a sore subject for a lot of people. |

“Noted,” Paige grinned slightly at the explanation of Tommy. She hardly knew both Tommy and Billy all that well, and knew very little beyond the fact that they were apparently both the biological sons of the Scarlet Witch. It showed with their physical characteristics, if one put their mind to it—Tommy had white hair just like his uncle Pietro, whereas Billy seemed to more resemble their mother. And though Paige didn’t take offense at the comment about color blindness, Billy seemed to stammer a little bit and was quick to needlessly apologize to her. “Don’t worry about it, I didn’t think that you were.” Paige was the type to do the same thing, sometimes, so she could understand where the issue might lie. “I thought about teaching at the school once,” Paige admitted, flashing the boy a quick smile. “I thought about becoming an X-Man at some point too, but that didn’t ever end up falling through. I think I’ve moved onto things that are better for me and the whole of society… being an X-Man is pretty dangerous, you know; a lot of collateral damage.” It was a quip, and she inflected her tone enough that it wouldn’t likely be thought of as serious. “And, honestly…? I’m not sure that teaching is really my sort of thing.” She shrugged her shoulders and chuckled a little bit, nodding a bit when he mentioned that he had a job offer that he didn’t really have much of a chance to turn down. “Something exciting, I bet?” She laughed, “But in all seriousness. I hope that works out for you.” Paige thought about going back to the farm, sometimes, to help her mother deal with things there. There were times that she legitimately did, but she knew that she always ended up coming back to New York just as she was settling in—she had wanted to leave the farm ever since she was a little girl, and whenever she tried to go back for the long run, she found that she had a hard time staying there. She didn’t have any plans to try again soon, as for now she was working on getting her detectives license and going from there. “Then, lead on. I’ve got nothing but time.” Paige pointed vaguely in the opposite direction from that which Billy had come and waited for him to walk in front of her, following behind just as he did and taking a sip of her coffee. “Honestly, Mutant Town isn’t very big…” Paige admitted, looking around at the buildings and then turning her attention back to Billy. “So it shouldn’t take all too long to show you around, I’m pretty sure that I can probably show you everything that you need… or want, as the case might be, today. I mean—that is, if you have the time.” She smiled at Billy and nodded towards the left a bit, “That’s the butcher shop. Pretty scary looking fella runs it, but he’s a sweetheart.” She kept her face, standing a good foot or two behind Billy and allowing him to take in the sights of the city. “It can get pretty crazy in the Brownstone sometimes, but I think we manage. XFI’s a pretty cool place, even if my boss is sort of nuts sometimes. But thanks.” |
