Keniuchio Harada
Unregistered

Time: Late Morning
Date: February 19th

Amid the scheming, the plotting and the other duties that Keniuchio Harada had to carry out for his Court, he was also a business man and sometimes AmaTech drew his attention away for longer than he liked. This was one of them times, since the relocation to New York some years ago the company had been expanding its holdings within the city, today's job was to inspect a sight for a possible new production and storage facility of one of AmaTech's newest lines of implant.

With wars being fought in several countries and America's armed forces receiving loss of limbs, money was being poured into the research and development of more technologically advanced cybernetic replacements that were affordable to governments without breaking the bank of the Department for Defense. Which was where AmaTech came in, Harada had pitched his ideas to DARPA and the organisation was in the process of deliberating on who to award the contract too, that was some months away but in the meanwhile AmaTech needed to make sure that it was prepared for new contracts which led to Harada standing on a large run down block near to the Hudson.

There was plenty of room here, more than enough to adequately house the facilities needed, however Harada had his concerns, attacks on New York. Which could not always be predicted, and the location to Mutant Town. While Harada was all for mutant rights, he did not associate himself with the mutant rights movements. He could not, his world revolved too much on dealing with non mutants and however much he might support the ideas in them they would at the end of the day cost him money if influential backers, and clients thought he was supporting a generally disliked minority.

"I will consider it," Harada spoke to the developer, he could not make the decision right here and right now there were many factors he needed to think on. Especially with the amount of money that he would be spending on it. Looking to his PA, the slender Japanese woman who had loyally stuck with him since the companies foundation. "Can you handle the rest for me?"

She nodded and went back to the developer, "Do you want me to contact your driver, Mr Harada?" He shook his head and began to walk away from the plot of land. Normally he would have been driven back to his office, but today he felt like taking in the city, the rougher neighborhoods did not bother him, having become a man inside the Yakuza one of the deadliest crime families on the planet, there was little that truly unnerved him.

Fifteen minutes later, the sharply dressed businessman was in the heart of mutant town, really it was a neighborhood that he could see being flattened and turned into something useful, something profitable. But alas there would be outcries and the human population did like having the mutants in areas where they could be monitored.

Laura did not venture up to the surface in daylight often these days, as she was happier lurking in the darkness of night. It was old habit, more than anything. She could slip about unseen easily in shadow and watch life unfolding all around her without having to get too involved, unless a helping hand was needed of her. It was not a social way to live and Laura knew that Jonny would have liked her to get out more, but would never force her. If it was going to happen, then she was going to do it in her own way. Mutant Town was a good a place as any to start.

Even now, years on, the streets were a little quieter than they had been before the Purifiers. Many families had stayed in Sanctuary full time, or had just stayed out of the city. Others had moved in, but it was not quite the same. Graced, or perhaps cursed, with a sharp memory, she could remember many of who had gone, what stores had lined the streets, before their current occupancy. A few people even recognised her as she passed by and greeted the young feral. Nodding in return, she carried on to the end of the block and crossed the street. There was a deli on the corner that several members of X-Factor had favoured before going underground and she felt that while she was up, she might as well get some supplies. Victor could also do with a new cushion, she noted mentally.

Sliding a hand into the pocket of her leather jacket, X sifted through the debris within, before pulling out a handful of change and transferring it into the front pocket of her black skinny jeans. With a wad of cash in her other front pocket, there would be more than enough for food and the pillow. Maybe…She paused opposite the deli, pondering if the Moloid children would like the story of Pinocchio.

Harada disliked this neighbourhood. As far as he was concerned it was no different to the native American reservations created to keep one population in one area. He couldn't help but ponder how long it would be until there were walls and gates erected around it. He supposed it just too the right sorts of politicians to be in power and it would happen eventually and there would be nothing the inhabitants could do, not without the spilling of blood anyway.

His eyes always remained on the path ahead of him, the shops did not catch his attention. Why would they? He could more than likely afford to buy up the rows of shops here and still have plenty of pocket change left. His suit today was Prada, of course. His shoes immaculately polished, the shirt perfectly pressed and the tie knotted to perfection. All part of a well rehearsed and well executed attempt at ensuring that people only saw the side of Keniuchio Harada that he wanted him to see.

"I need to check on the progress of the armour suit, later." He made a mental note to himself, after discussions with the Black King it was decided that he needed a third alter ego for the cogs that would be turning in the close future. So with a new persona came the need for new equipment. Using the stolen Stark designs that Harada used for his current set he had been designing something new, more practical and less ostentatious than the Silver Samurai armour. For this suit would not be a protector of the people, it would be the suit that he used for bring swift death from the shadows in the dead of the night.

As he was walking down the street back towards his office a face triggered a flash of memories. Turning on his heels he looked again, it was a woman. Not the man that he assumed it was. Scratching at his chin; "he never had children." The samurai mused. He had plans for his brother-in-law, plans that he would soon be exacting, but this woman, no she couldn't be related to him. Yet her appearance was uncanny.

He needed to explore this further and the Knight quickly began to walk back in the direction that the woman went in. She had not gone far, she was stood looking at a deli. Wonderful he thought, walking up behind her he extended a hand to touch her shoulder. "Excuse me," He kept his tone formal, for now anyway.

The deli looked inviting on its corner and she could catch the scents of the good food within the place. It was clean, one of the primary reasons she had favoured it so much in the past. When you had such a keen sense of smell, hygiene was important, especially when it came to food. While her mind was a little preoccupied, X-23 still had noted the man as he had passed her by, much in the same way she briefly took note of all who she passed by in the street. Just in case. Her mind had filed away necessary details, but other than that, she had discounted him. After all, it was broad daylight in a very public place; if he was a threat, he was either a foolish one, or one more powerful than she could handle alone. Carrying on, about to cross the street she stopped suddenly as he spoke, pivoting on her heel smoothly so his fingers glanced by her shoulder.

“Good morning,” she responded to him, her tone as warm as she could make it, but still unable to quite let go of that old, clinical tone of hers that had been installed during her years in the Facility. Other than his designer clothes, there was nothing of note about him, nor did she recognise him. “May I help you?” Laura continued. As much as her mind spoke of dangers, it also laid out reasonable explanations as well. The man could be lost, in need of money changing into smaller amounts or even the time if his cellphone had lost its power…Many different reasons, but for now she was going to play as if she suspected nothing at all, keeping her face an emotionless canvas, aside from the very small smile that painted across her features.

She was aware of him, as she turned away from him. Not unsurprising given whom she looked liked, but at the same time Logan was not the only person in the world to have enhanced sense and this was Mutant Town, so it was unsurprising that she had made him. This just happened to make the encounter all the more interesting for the white knight.

"Good morning to you too." Even to strangers he was polite and this stranger had the potential to become a very important chess piece to him within the comings weeks, so to her he would be especially nice. Everybody else continued to walk by them living out their daily lives, Harada would keep half an eye on them. He was a rich man in one of the poorer parts of town. It wouldn't take much for someone with sticky fingers to make his brand of suit, how he carried himself and his other mannerisms, and to then put two and two together and lift his wallet from his pocket. He was however not that naive and he'd learned those tricks when he was on the bottom rung of the Yakuza all those years ago when he was so desperate for revenge against the man that was accused of being his father.

Now years later he was stood in front of a possible lead that would make his hunt for revenge all the sweeter. "In fact I think you can," His smile unfaltering. "I appear to have lost my way, you couldn't direct me to the nearest subway station?" It was a lie of course, but a necessary one. He couldn't out right go, 'hey you look like my estranged brother in law whose head I want mounted on my wall.' Instead he would have to be a little smarter. Extending his hand for the woman to shake. "Keniuchio Harada. Owner of AmaTech International." The similarities between Logan and the woman were uncanny, save for the obvious differences it was almost as if she were a younger female version of the Wolverine. "Say, have you, or any of your family ever spent any time in Japan?"

Taking a polite step backwards as he greeted her, she continued to study his appearance and that included his body language as well. As before, Laura could not perceive any direct threat from the man, but that did not mean there was not the potential for one. Something was familiar about him, despite the fact that she had not initially recognised him. But why he was familiar eluded her and it continued to escape her normally ordered memory. Maybe she had simply seen his face in a crowd while on a mission.

His question was innocuous. Turning her head, she glanced down the street and then pointed. “About five blocks that way and then you turn left, at the main crosswalk. Then it is one more block. I hope that is helpful to you,” she added, again out of a slightly forced politeness. Laura was trying to be more social but with strangers it could still often feel as if she was reciting lines from a script when talking to them.

Assuming their conversation done, the feral clone was about to take her leave of the man when he introduced himself. Taking his hand with the lightest of grasps, she shook and dropped her hand quickly back to her side and nodded, but then bristled almost at once at his next question. It was so smoothly asked, with such easy intention, that it could be really quite innocent. All the same, X-23 made a mental note of the man’s name, his company, his physical description and decided to talk to Logan about it when a convenient moment came up, or even Jonny would be able to help her make sense of things, if she was still troubled later on.

“I have been,” Laura responded. “For work,” she elaborated before he could press her on the subject. It was true that she had visited, under contract of hire through the Facility. It had been a number of years since then. Her sensei had been Japanese and she was fluent in the language, but not a word would cross her lips, not in this place and not in conversation with this strange man.

She stepped back as he greeted her giving him another chance to look upon her. There were far too many similarities here for it to be a coincidence. Whether these similarities actually meant anything. That was a different matter all together. He had plans for the Wolverine, plans that had been worked on since Namor's attack on New York. Soon they would be put into motion, and soon Logan would pay for all the slights against his family. He would be reminded of the family that he betrayed, and then his world will be brought down around him. Then when and only when he was begging for it to be over, Harada would give him that release that he so desperately wanted. The sword he had spent so long searching for will be put to use. The one sword whose blade wont taste blood until Logan's blood had been spilled by it.

She was studying him, that was a good thing. He would need to do some more research on this woman when he got back to his office. If there was any connection between her and Logan that was documented, he would find it. Then he would factor her into his plans. Perhaps she could be the proverbial bait to draw his long lost brother in law out of hiding. Though if she was in any way connected to him he doubted it would truly be that easy. "Thank you." He inclined his head slightly as she answered his question, as he turned to face the direction she was directing him. As if taking mental notes of exactly where he needed to go, her tone was not lost on him either. It's almost robotic like quietly made him think she had been taught to speak parrot fashion rather than having learned it through the exploration and use of voice that many children do when they learn to talk. Despite having asked for directions, the truth be told, after this run in. He would likely contact his driver and have him pick him up rather than have to deal with the low-lives of the city. This excursion had proved more than beneficial to him in the end. Far more beneficial than he would have thought it would be when he set off from the potential building site earlier on.

She shook his hand, he wasn't expecting that. Given how she had reacted to his attempt at touching her shoulder earlier. "How did you find my country?" Has asked curiously. Of course his mind was wondering exactly what sort of work she had been doing. "I have not been home in sometime. Which is something I regret. Though there is not much there for me anymore."

As he thanked her and inclined his head, she automatically gave a small bow from the waist, leaning forwards only ever so slightly. She had picked up habits over the years, primarily from watching others and the bigger the emotional connection, the bigger the impact, especially when she had been much younger. Her sensei had taught her more than just martial arts and how to handle weaponry and even though she could not always express it, flashes of it still came out.

Despite her politeness, her instincts were telling her to run. Something was amiss with the situation. She was not even discounting that this was far from a chance encounter and he had purposefully lain in wait for her. Why, well that was another matter. Laura still felt as if she should recognise him, but his face was hard for her to place. Perhaps he was a member of the Brotherhood, although he seemed far too refined for such a life. No, that was not it.

He asked his question, obviously in no rush to get to the Subway station despite asking for directions there. She set him with a green eyed stare that held not one drop of warmth to it. “I found it pleasant. The culture is of interest to me. But I was working and unable to visit attractions,” her voice was impassive and cool. Even if she wanted to, she still struggled to make conversation with strangers, especially ones whom she did not trust. It was only natural and Laura was sure that Volt would agree with her and see no fault in her judgement or behaviour. X-23 wished that her fellow clone was there with her, as he would be able to converse much better than she, or easily extract them from the situation. Of course, she could run and he would have a very difficult time stopping her, even if he was another mutant, but running could trigger another state of affairs altogether and she could not risk that in such a public place, with civilians all around them.

Laura’s face twitched a little as he spoke about having not returned home for some time. “I am sorry. Do you have no family?” the words again were impassive in tone, but something had piqued her curiosity, guarded as it was. There was a tale here, something lurking under the surface and it was likely that she would benefit from learning facts and facts came from questions.
