OTHER CHARACTERS ON THE SITE Just this for now RULES CODE: Oh damn it…crap crap what is it again? OH..Blackbird right? CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE: Links I used are below http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Disruption http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Molecular_Combustion http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Molecular_Deceleration CHARACTER INFORMATION Simon Van Meervenne BASIC INFORMATION CANON OR ORIGINAL: Original AFFILIATION:None…yet FULL NAME:Alexander Verrin CODENAME:Chaos NICKNAMES:Alex CURRENT AGE:22 DATE OF BIRTH: December 23, 1990 MARITAL STATUS:Single…and do NOT remind him SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Homosexual BASE OF OPERATIONS: Works in Times Square, lives in a studio apartment on Christopher Street. TIME AT INSTITUTE: N/A REGISTERED WITH SHIELD?Nope HOMETOWN: Paris, France KNOWN RELATIVES: Michael Verrin (Father): Deceased Nicolette Verrin (Mother): Deceased PHYSICAL APPEARANCE Standing at 5’9 and 140 pounds, Alexander’s build is focused more on tone, speed, and flexibility rather than bulk; like a runner. He has thick brown hair that is either straightened or styled and hazel eyes that seem to have gold in certain lighting. HEIGHT:5’9 BUILD:Lean, toned. EYES:Hazel HAIR:Dark brown DISTINGUISHING MARKS: None CLOTHING STYLE:Alexander is a bit of a brat when it comes to clothing and doesn’t like wearing anything but the best. Being raised the way he was, he always dresses to impress. From silk button downs to designer jeans, Alexander’s taste in clothing is form fitting, stylish, and most importantly ‘in the now’. He wouldn’t be caught dead wearing department store jeans and a t-shirt and the only time you will see him in sweatpants is if he is home alone. Alexander has distaste in bright colors and is mostly seen wearing black, greys, blues, purple, and the occasional red. Everyone has a vice. For Alexander its clothes…and cigarettes…and wine… UNIFORM: None as of yet POWERS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Alexander’s abilities are linked with molecular manipulation. While this term is broad, his abilities are as follows: Disruption: Alexander has the ability to disrupt technological systems ranging from cellphones, to computers, to even a military tank. The more complex the system though, the more effort and energy it will take. The effects can range from a cellphone unable to find a signal to having a car breakdown while in motion. In order for this ability to work, Alexander must touch the object, as he is unable to perform this ability from a distance. This ability, like many mutants, is tied to his emotions so if he is angry and trying to make a computer shut down, he could unintentionally make the computer explode. Alexander must keep his emotions in check as to not accidently set off his powers. Again, the more complex the system the more energy it will take Alex to complete the task. Shorting out a cellphone would require little to no effort but trying to disrupt a large computer mainframe would make Alexander lightheaded and perhaps faint from exhaustion. Molecular Combustion: Also known as explosion power or blasting, Alex has the power to speed up inorganic molecules to the point where the molecules heat up and result in a object combusting. This is Alexander’s most powerful and somewhat unstable ability. In order to perform this ability correctly Alexander must focus on the object as to not affect anything else around it. For example, if he was in front of a table filled with random glasses, Alexander would need to focus on one glass in order to not combust any of the surrounding glasses. If he tried to attempt this while angry, Alexander would blow up every single glass on the table. He is able to blow up small objects such as a gun, radio, or glass with ease but isn’t able to completely obliterate it. For example, if he used his ability on a gun, than the gun would break into tiny parts. He is unable to effect larger objects, such as a car, as well but can still damage them sufficiently. Now, he wouldn’t be able to destroy a car with one blast. If he wanted to destroy an entire vehicle it would require multiple rounds of his power, but this would result in him tiring quickly and he tries to not use his power to that point. Alexander’s ability has no effect on organic beings, such as humans and animals, but can still defend himself with it. If his opponent were clothed Alex could focus his power on a part of his opponent’s body that was covered. Due to the closeness of organic molecules of his opponent to the inorganic molecules of the clothing, the Alex’s power is dramatically weakened. The most that would happen is that his opponent would be knocked back five feet and the part of the clothing affected would have a hole in it while leaving a nasty bruise on the person. Alex wouldn’t be able to do anything fatal to his opponent, but it would sure hurt. Think of this as a really nasty punch. Again, this ability is tied to Alexander’s emotions and is best performed with a clear head. If extremely angry, his power could cause random objects around him explode and if trying to focus under this state, he could cause more destruction than intended. The more he uses this ability in one setting, the more energy it would take. Alex could blow up computers in a high school classroom no problem, but if he was trying to destroy a car or steel wall, Alexander could receive intense migraines that could cause him to pass out or be completely immobilized from the pain. Molecular Deceleration: The opposite of his combustion power, Alex has the ability to slow down molecules, giving an appearance of slowing down or almost completely stopping an object. Unlike his combustion ability, Alex is able to manipulate both organic and inorganic molecules, but the effect he has on organic molecules is weakened. With Inorganic objects: The affect Alex’s power over inorganic objects is dependent on size and number. If he was using the ability on a shooting gun with bullets averaging 750 mph, he could slow down the bullet to 1 mile an hour and the effect would last around 20 seconds. If he were trying to slow down thirty bullets, the bullets would slow down to 5 miles an hour for 15 seconds. Basically, Alex’s power works best when an object is small in size and number. If he were to try to slow down an explosion or train, his power could it slow down by 80% for 5 seconds. He can use this multiple times but if used too much, effects can range from massive nosebleeds to intense migraines. With Organic Objects: When it comes to organic objects such as animals and humans, Alex’s power isn’t as effective. If he were to face a mutant with super speed, he could only slow them down up to 90% for 10 seconds. The more Alex uses this ability on the same person, the more resistant they will become. For example, if he was facing the same mutant with super speed, the second time Alex would only be able to slow them down by 80% for 8 seconds, third time up to 70% for 6 seconds, etc. If he were facing numerous opponents, his power wouldn’t nearly be as effective. If he were to use his power in a room of 20 people, Alex would only be able to slow them all down by 50% for 10 seconds. This power, like all the rest, is tied to his emotions. While his other two abilities are affected by anger, this power can be accidently set off if he is excited i.e. if someone jumps in front of him out of nowhere, or laughs at a really funny joke. Note: I apologize for the different scenarios but I figured it was the best way to describe his abilities and limitations Fitness: While this isn’t enhanced by his mutant abilities, Alexander is generally more fit than the average man his age. He keeps a strict diet and exercise regiment and follows it without fault. Yea he smokes but a guy his age can abuse his body with minimal consequences. He can run up to 9 miles per hour and is able to maintain that speed for 90 minutes. His body is flexible due to his yoga practices, and toned with his lifting regiment. This doesn’t mean he has super human speed or anything, but he keeps fit. Also due to his kickboxing certification and teaching experience, Alex is proficient in hand-to-hand combat. This isn’t to say he is the same level as a black belt but he can hold his own in a fight. WEAKNESS: As mentioned above, Alexander’s abilities do have their limitations and are closely tied to his emotions. He is unable to express “extreme” emotion or he could lose control of his abilities. As much as he would love to express rage when pissed off or laugh really hard at a funny joke, Alex can’t do that without setting off his abilities. Alex is a mutant, yes, but still susceptible to human weaknesses. He ages like a regular human and is susceptible to harm, disease, poison, psychic abilities, and death just like anyone else. PERSONALITY Alex is a bit of an interesting character. If you are kind to him, he will be kind to you. If you disrespect him, he disrespects back. Punch him once, he punches back…twice. Alex isn’t one to take disrespect and will defend himself as necessary. He is never one to start fights, but he loves finishing them. Another thing that sets him off is just, bad people. People who steal from others, who beat on others for no real reason, these are the types of things Alex cannot stand. If he sees a man robbing a woman, Alex would stop them. If idiot jocks pick on a gay kid, Alex would defend him. This isn’t to say he is a violent character per-say but he isn’t afraid to fight the good fight and defend those in need. Another thing that ticks off Alex is people who talk before they think…he hates idiocy. When it comes to people, Alex has no problem socializing and having fun, but as “friends” go, he knows a lot of people but is never close with anyone. All his life he was constantly on the move and he figured it is pointless to get close to someone when he could end up losing him or her. Alex would be up for having a drink with someone but don’t expect him to share his life story…he is always cautious of those he doesn’t know. Other than that, Alex can be seen as a pretentious little rich kid due to his clothing but he is far from that. Underneath everything Alex is just a lonely guy wanting to connect with someone. He would like nothing more than to have a best friend or a boyfriend but his fears and guilt of his parents’ death prevent him from doing so. Alex fills this void with expensive clothes, wine, shallow one night stands, and pours himself into his work to avoid these thoughts. Will someone be able to break his walls? Who knows? One thing Alexander is, and he will attest to this, is that he is ambitious. If he sees something he wants, he will do anything to achieve it. Alexander has lived on his own since he was 17 (well, the trust fund helped), and moved to Manhattan to start a new life. He attended NYU and graduated top 5% of his class got his amazing job after graduating. If it is one thing Alex is good at, it is setting a goal and accomplishing it. HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Alexander Verrin was born in Paris, France on December 23, 1990. His parents, Michael and Nicolette Verrin, were a power couple that was well known throughout Paris. Alex grew up in luxury due to his parent’s professionals. His father was a criminal lawyer and his clients were, well, lets say they had questionable habits and Michael was known to get anyone out of jail. Nicolette was a high-ranking executive in the fashion world and was constantly written about in fashion magazines around the world. Alex’s world was filled with the finest foods, clothes, and education but lacked what every kid in the world, his parent’s affection. Both his parents were more married to their jobs than to each other and couldn’t be in the same place for too long. Whenever the two were in the same room, they would either fight or completely ignore each other. Nicolette was either working late hours or traveling while Michael was seeing clients, in court, or working late hours as well. At the age of six, Alexander’s family moved from country to country every two years. From six to eight years his family lived in Milan, from eight to ten, they lived in Zurich, and at age twelve they moved to London where they eventually settled for awhile. His mother’s career required her to move quite a bit. Alex’s life was filled with nanny’s that seemed to come and go. As a child, he wondered why his parents rarely spent time with him and believed it was because they didn’t want him or something was wrong with him. So, Alex poured himself into school and athletics, wanting nothing more than his parent’s recognition. He spent endless hours studying and from 12 years old and on, Alexander was one of the top ranking students each academic year. Even with his accomplishments he was still unnoticed by his parents. The only time he got any sort of recognition was when his parents hosted dinner parties where Alex was the ‘perfect child’. Alexander’s life changed on his fourteenth birthday while he was with his mother. His father was back in Paris settling a case, leaving the two alone for the first time in a long time. Feeling bad for not spending time with her son, Nicolette set up an incredible dinner for the two to enjoy and Alex chose this night to finally confront his mother. Pent up with emotion, Alexander expressed his anger towards his mother, telling her how lonely he was, how he worked so hard to get the slightest of recognition. In this fit of rage, every glass on the table shattered, revealing Alexander’s first power; the power of combustion. The two were dead silent. Alexander was confused as to what was happening but his mother was calm, too calm even. All she did to respond was lift up her hand and her plate seemed to magically lift from the table. Then she said eight words, eight words that turned Alexander’s world upside down. “I have lots to teach you, my son.” The next year Alexander and his mother have never been closer. She left her career for a lower position so she could spend nights and weekends training with her son, behind her husband’s back. Nicolette was a telekinetic, and a powerful one at that. She taught Alexander to control and harness his power. The training was long and exhausting, but Alex enjoyed every second of it. He wanted to control his power but most of all; he wanted to spend time with his mother. At fifteen, Nicolette divorced Michael and moved back to Paris with Alexander where the two had all they wanted, each other. During this year, Alex’s second power developed during another training session. His mother was using her ability to toss stones at Alex but instead of blowing them up, he froze the stones in place. Alexander’s abilities were growing and with his mother’s aid, he learned how to harness his powers. At seventeen, Alex’s life changed and this time, it wasn’t for the better. He and his mother were driving to Lyon for a weekend getaway when driving near them as Michael, his father. It was as if fate was playing a sick joke. The mere site of his father set off Alexander’s third and final ability, disruption. In a fit of rage, Alexander’s newfound ability set off sparks within his mother’s car and short out the vehicle completely, causing his mother to crash into his father’s car, and then the world went black. Alexander awoke three days later in a hospital and next to him was a man in a suit who turned out to be a lawyer. He explained his parents died in a car accident and he was the only one who survived. After a few condolences and paperwork, it was official, Alexander was alone, alone because of his abilities. He didn’t care for his father, but he didn’t want him to die. The death of his mother affected him the most. He had no family he could go to due to the fact his parents didn’t include them in their lives, so with the money his parents left him, Alexander took care of himself. Needing a change, he decided to move to New York City and finish his last year of high school there. There was nothing left for Alex in Europe, nothing but pain and memories. He wanted a new life and he hoped New York City could give him that. When he was settled in his apartment, a bald man in a wheel chair arrived at his doorstep. The man was kind and seemed sincere. His name was Xavier and he offered Alexander a chance to be part of a family…a place where he could be accepted. Alex declined the offer and decided to try to live a normal life and keep his mutant identity a secret. Alexander just lost his family and he wasn’t ready to start a new one. DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009) During this time, Alexander was two months from graduation and a few of his classmates wanted to go on a trip to South Dakota, where one of the kids had a cabin. Thinking it would be fun, Alex agreed to the trip and the group flew out to South Dakota. When they arrived, Apocalypse and his forces began plaguing cities around the world with their destructive powers. Alex and his friends were in panic, not knowing what to do, wondering if their families were safe, and wondering if they were going to survive. Alex kept the group together, trying to keep everyone calm as he tried to figure out a way for them to survive. As Famine used his power to turn all organic life to dust, Alex and his classmates watched as the world around them was being destroyed right before their eyes. The group was always on the move, never in the same place for too long. As they traveled to nearby towns, the surviving people seemed to be plagued with starvation and the group was feeling the effects just by being around them. Alex led his group away from the towns; far away as to not feel Famine’s influence and from time to time, he used his powers to defend the group from hunger crazed people. His classmates didn’t seem to care that Alex was a mutant and were in fact grateful that he was able to protect them. The group barely survived the week but they made do with what they had packed for the trip. Then came April 12th where Apocalypse unleashed his worse…forever changing the world. POST-APOCALYPSE Within the month after the affects, the group returned to New York City, only to see the damage Apocalypse had caused. The group that Alex was with parted ways, and he never saw them again. New York was destroyed and changed greatly, but Alex was accustomed to life changes. He knew he could overcome anything. Since then, Alexander made the best with the cards he was dealt. As New York City was changing, he received his high school diploma and received an acceptance to NYU’s business program. During his time in college, Alexander excelled in his schoolwork. He would spend hours re-reading material that he knew like the back of his hand just to make sure he could get that A. When he wasn’t studying, Alexander found his passion for fitness. He got certified to teach Spin and Kickboxing classes. If he wasn’t studying, he was either teaching fitness classes or working out. He did, however, make sure he had some semblance of a social life. What was the point in living in the Big Apple if he couldn’t have a little fun? As for his mutant abilities, Alexander kept his powers a secret, not wanting his abilities to dictate his life. After three years of a full course schedule, winter courses, summer courses, and teaching fitness classes on the side, Alex graduated with his marketing degree a year early and landed a job with a prestigious staffing agency. Alexander loves his work and despite the long hours, he loves his job. Connecting companies with the right talent, and at the end of the day helping people find careers, it is one of the best feelings in the world for him. Now Alex just lives his life. He works and plays, but often wonders how his life would turn out if he accepted Xavier’s offer the day he moved to New York. SAMPLE RP POST: “Thanks Brian, that was fun…amazing actually…but I am going to have to ask you to leave.” “It is 2:30 in the morning…are you really kicking me out?” “Yes…I’m not really into sleepovers.” With an annoyed sigh, Brian eased himself out of the bed and began putting his clothes back on. Alex laid his head down on the silk covered pillow and stared up at the white ceiling, hearing the boy’s annoyed sighs and groans. This was just another Friday night. Another night of having one too many vodka tonics…another night meeting and bringing a guy home. This wasn’t anything new or special for Alex. He liked having no strings. He liked keeping things simple. “Alright well…thanks Alex…I left my number on your desk so if you ever want to hang out again shoot me a text or something.” Alex turned his head to Brian. He was a nice kid and was absolutely stunning to boot. Blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, great body, it was like he flew out a Abercrombie poster. It seemed he wasn’t used to his boys kicking him out. The mutant shook his head and smiled, “Sounds good.” After an awkward goodbye Brian left the apartment, leaving Alexander alone. He turned his head to his alarm clock, 2:45am. Alex wasn’t remotely tired and couldn’t feel asleep even if he tried. The mutant let out a sigh and eased out of the bed before heading to the shower. After a quick rinsed, Alex dried himself off before slicking his hair back. Alex put on a pair of jeans, a designer shirt, and grabbed his keys and leather jacket before heading outside. He lit a cigarette while walking down his block, enjoying the cool breeze before hearing a scream. “HELP! SOMEONE! HELP!” Alexander looked across the street, seeing two men cornering a woman. The mutant ran across the street and shoved the two men away from the woman. Alex glared at the two men as he clenched his fists, “Didn’t your mother ever teach you how to treat a woman?” The two men began to struggle to stand up straight. They were clearly drunk; Alex could practically smell the whiskey on their breath. They were both big…very big. They were at least 6 feet tall and probably weighed twice as much as Alex. One of the men took out a pocketknife and began waving it in the air as if trying to scare Alex. Truth was, he just looked more like the drunken fool he was. Alex turned his head slightly to see the woman behind him, “Are you ok ma’am?” She nodded hesitantly, obviously scared. The man with the knife glared at Alex, “Look pretty boy, this shit doesn’t concern you so before I cut your lil face how about you leave?” Alex narrowed his eyes and kicked the knife out of the man’s hand. While he was startled, the other guy charged at Alex. With a grin, the mutant slammed his palm to the man’s face, breaking his nose while causing him to fall in pain. Alex’s eyes drifted towards the other guy and glared, “How about you and your friend leave. If not…you can be assured I will break more than your noses.” With that, the two ran, drunkenly, away. Alex turned to face the woman and smiled, “They won’t bother you again.” The woman picked up her purse and smiled, “Thank you…thank you so much. I am just glad they weren’t some damn mutants…thank god you were here. If there is anyth-“ “There isn’t anything I want from you. Now go home.” His voice was stern and she immediately walked away without saying anything further. Alexander glared at the woman. A part of him now regretted saving this bitch; she was another mutant hater. If she knew he was a mutant would she thank him any differently? Would she believe that not all mutants are bad? Alexander let out a groan and lit up another cigarette. This was just another Friday in the Big Apple. |

Hi Alex, sorry for the wait in your application review and thanks for applying to XMR :) So a few things, so please bear with me and if you need help please contact myself or another staff member via the staff duties list. 1. We’re more than fine with characters being gay, just so long as this is who they are and not for the sake of attention seeking or playing up any stereotypes. We say this to everyone pretty much, simply to avoid people putting it in because it’s cute and quirky (which sadly happens). 2. Powers – Mostly the problem here is the technological system disruption has no real connection to the molecular powers. Powers need to have some sort of correlation, otherwise it’s hard to say where someone can or can’t stop in terms of what they can do. Please either stick with the molecular power or the tech power. The fitness thing is a bit unnecessary as well, especially as you’re saying ‘well he smokes and does this but he’s above average anyway’. It’s just like you’re trying to tell us how awesome he is. For instance, I don’t think he could run 9mph for 90 minutes, as that is above Olympic standard and without powers pertaining to this, it just isn’t feasible. 3. Personality wasn’t too bad, then I hit this bit:
I have no problem with rich kid characters. I have no problem with smart kid characters. Just avoid being so whimsical about it, as it makes him sound pretentious when you’ve already stressed earlier that he isn’t. Do you know how tough the job market is? Even in a make believe world, you have to bear in mind the situation and think ‘okay the world is always in danger and something bad is always happening every year…’ it’s probably just as hard to get a job in Earth 740 as it is for a graduate in the real world (which is very hard). I’m not trying to slam you, trust me, but you need to ground him a bit more. 4. History – Why do the family start moving around so much? What about his mother’s career made them move every few years, as that doesn’t make much sense to me. Wouldn’t the father need to stay put for his law practise? If he’s so high flying I don’t see why he’d move for the sake of fashion. Why was he only the perfect child at dinner parties? If his parents were that indifferent, why not have him go to boarding school instead of hiring so many nannies? Why did her mother only start to care once she found out he was a mutant? Why didn’t this irritate him – one minute she ignores him, then she’s teaching him.
This just sounds creepy. I doubt you mean to come over all Oedipus Rex, but this is pretty much how it comes over. Alex causing his parents deaths seems to be unnecessary drama – a lot of characters have dead parents and some have even killed them, but it just seems a way of his powers coming out and not all mutant powers are born out of highly emotional situations. Some powers just happen. Think about this carefully. Apocalypse – Famine was closer to Indiana than S. Dakota, but naturally they’d hear things on the news and panic about it.
Unleashed his worst and then what…? It sounds picky, but if you’re going to reference something, don’t then leave it hanging as it doesn’t show you understand it. Post-Apocalypse – While things were in a bad way, it wouldn’t have taken them a month to get back to NYC. Also it was not public knowledge that an ancient force called Apocalypse was behind these events. It’s fine if he comes to learn this while he’s with the X-men later on, but as far as the general population knew, it was all blamed on mutants. You’ll need to add Purifiers and Skrulls into the rest of your history, especially if Alex is going to be around NYC during this time. You can write, that much is clear, but you’re in danger of making him a bit overblown in parts. None of my feedback is to slam or say you’ve done a bad job, as you’re obviously trying; I’d just recommend thinking and taking your time to absorb information around the site and then building from there. Again, if you need help get in touch with me or another member of staff and we’ll do what we can. Otherwise just reply when you’ve made the fixes :) |
