April 13th 3:30pm ___________________________ “I'm pretty much putting my life in your hands here, TJ,” Josh said as he glanced at the girl from behind sunglasses. “If we really did do this whole thing, I don't think there's anything that Warren or Logan or Storm could do to stop us, but if they knew about this kind of stuff... well I'm pretty sure that we'd all get locked up in a tower or something till we were all thirty.” He glanced over his shoulder as if to check that no one were tailing them, “And I wouldn't be surprised if your dad put me under the tower for getting you involved.” Josh slowed his blue-green honda to a near halt as someone's tail lights came on, indicating that they were about to exit their parking spot along the street. Fortunate timing for the pair of them who had already circled around the block once already looking for a spot... it was somewhat crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Once parked, he dropped his sunglasses in the car's tray and hauled himself out of the car. Josh shut the door behind him and leaned up against the only car he'd ever owned – 174,000 miles of surefire steadiness that had not so much as overheated once. Honda sure could build one hell of a car... Foley suddenly felt the urge to send them a thank-you note or something. Shoving his hands in his pockets, Josh looked across the street at an old apartment building; he pulled out a piece of paper and checked it. He shoved it in his pocket and looked over at TJ, “Okay... so I'm not amazing at this detective stuff, but apparently there's a guy here who recruits for the Brotherhood. Kind of a fence or something? I dunno. Anyway, I figure we ask him a few questions. At the very least, maybe send a message to Cessily or something... see if we can get her up here to talk to.” He squinted back at the apartment as he shoved himself off the car and began to walk across the street for it, “I think this is the place that Sabre guy took Cess when he recruited her... that's what I hear anyway, so I think this may be our best choice to get some answers... see if the Brotherhood knows anything. We're pretty much perfect together. If things get dicey, you can get us out of here. I know your teleportation is spotty, but I think you can do it. I can take care of any damage we get. You in?” Talia leaned back in the seat, forefinger resting on her lips and watched him as he explained. Her eyebrows rose slightly. “Well yeah, I mean, none of you are kids anymore. Old enough to make your own decisions and I’m sure by the time they were our ages, I mean. Seriously. We’re pretty white collar in comparison.” She leaned forwards and took a look out the windows as he maneuvered the car around. “I think putting you under the tower would be him being nice.” She slipped out of the other side, looking around with a blue hand raised to block the sun from her eyes as she did so. He leaned against his car and she moved around to the side with him as he started talking about the plan for today. “Well this ought to be interesting then.” The Brotherhood. An entity she hadn’t had much experience with outside of the small hustle and bustle and what she knew of from history. Which, in comparison to living with them around, wasn’t as she expected. She straightened out her tanktop and followed across the street, biting at her lip momentarily. She took a short breath in and kept pace with him across the street. “I’m not a detective either but this certainly seems shady enough to meet a brotherhood recruiter. Or perhaps a drug dealer. Looks drug deal-y.” Her eyes flicked over to him and pulled a smile on her face. “You’re seriously don’t plan those? Pretty much perfect together. Gonna make a girl blush.” She exhaled sharply and looked up at the building from the doorway. “Well you’re one teleporter up than you were a few minutes ago. So.” Josh was nervous and was trying to do his best to hide the fact; he'd had his share of field experience and had taken more than a few proverbial bullets in the line of fire, but he bounced back from ventilation like it were nothing more than a tack in someone's foot. Healing from bruised ego and having a plan blow up in his face, however, was a much harder feat for the young biokinetic. As TJ replied, it hadn't occurred to him what she'd replied with at the end... he was already working out what he would say to what was likely to be some towering behomoth of a mutant who was completely scary in every way possible. The guy probably had eight arms with adamantium claws replacing each fingernail and three sets or razor sharp teeth. Josh imagined the remains of dead children piled on a table behind him in his kitchen. He'd heard that some of the Brotherhood ate humans. Why are we even bothering to look at the Brotherhood? We're trying to find a murderer among murderers. It's like looking for a needle in a cliché. Or something. “Huh?” Josh asked as one foot landed on the sidewalk opposite his car, “Oh... yea. Hey can we put up some kind of unwritten rule that I'm horrible at this stuff and that everything I say can either be taken in a context to sound like I'm either flirting, implying innuendo, or proclaiming how much of a loser I am? Because if you go ahead and assume that everything I say will come across one of those ways, you'll probably laugh a lot more at how bad I am at getting my point across and probably blush a lot less.” Josh halted briefly at the foot of the stairs, looking up at the door standing at the top of it as a thought struck him. “Would be a pity if you did though.” he muttered, his tone was just loud enough to carry while still being able to claim innocence should he be accused of anything as forward as flirting. His golden eyes shown from a dark face as he stared at the door. A worn sticker was slapped on the front of the door at a slight angle and to the left. It read 'Warning. Private property. Trespassers will be shot on sight. Survivors will be shot a second time.' It was probably created with humor in mind, but Josh didn't find anything funny about it on that door. “Heh... cute.” With that, he trudged up the stairs and held out a dark fist, hesitating slightly before looking at TJ, an eyebrow raised as if asking her a silent 'are you ready?'. He knocked. No answer. He knocked one more time, “We'll give him a few minutes. Don't wanna piss the guy off. He might be less inclined to help us out if we annoy him before we even get to say hi.” He thought briefly about tucking his shirt in his pants, but then he didn't want to get mistaken for a Mormon or a Jehovah's Witness. Foley was pretty sure that would be a move in the wrong direction. Moments later, the door opened the width that a chain would allow and an eye peered down at the pair of them. “What do you want?” “Uh... we wanted to,” Josh looked over his shoulder and then back at the door just in time to see it shut. His brow furrowed and he started to look at TJ when it opened back up enough to allow them in. “Get in here before you draw any attention. You look suspicious as hell skulking around like that.” The man who stood inside was reed thin with lanky hair and bug eyes... definitely not what Josh had expected. But that was nothing next to the smell in his house, which was horrible. He gave TJ a significant glance and then headed in, trying his best to ignore the stench. Skulking? Was not... "If you put that disclaimer up, I should mention that either way i'm going to tease you about it. And often times I will come off as snarky or flirty right back. I've always wanted to see what color you turn when you blush." She added with a fangy grin, eyebrow rasing at his muttered comment as she stepped up quickly behind him. The buildings inside condition was about as pleasant as the outside, only this time it was stuffy as all hell. She looked back at him in time to see his hand hovered over the door, eyes on her and she nodded. He knocked twice in a decent span of time and she looped her fingers into her pockets, tail flicking behind her lazily. The stranger opened the door and asked them what they wanted and Josh seemed supremely nervous. He started to answer and she rested a hand briefly on his shoulder as the door shut. She hadn't expected it to open again, but at the same time she wasn't really surprised. She liked to think they had the advantage because she was from the future. A future that was far more grim than anything this building could have to offer. Maybe it was time to pull out some of her trademark confidence. Josh stepped in and she followed, steps lazy with a slightly raised eyebrow, trying not to scoff slightly. "There's not a lot I can do to avoid shady. I'm a bright blue mutant that looks like a devil, standing in a shady-ass building." Her tone wasn't rough but it showed that she wasn't trying to fuck around with the guy. "I'm just sayin'." The man snorted as he shut the door behind them, “I like her. You just bought yourself a minute, kids. Stay there.” He disappeared into the kitchen. Josh decided to try to go for relaxed again, shoving his hands back in his pockets and leaning back against the door. The place was dingy and definitely stunk. A lot of the surfaces looked as if they had a greasy coating. Josh made a mental note of that fact and concluded that he must be a fence for a reason... it definitely kept prying eyes away from a place that smelled so bad that it could make a regular person's eyes water. A few moments later the man returned with a single cup of coffee. He plopped down in a worn recliner and sipped on it. “So? Spit it out already. Clock's ticking.” “We have a friend in Sanctuary we're trying to get in contact with. Might look at joining her, but we kind of wanted to talk to her first. I guess you could say we're looking for a bit more of a push before we make up our minds on what we want to do.” The man stared at him from over the rim of the coffee cup, beady eyes twinkling. Then he looked over at TJ, “Your turn. What the hell do you want?” What Josh was saying to the creepy-ass guy wasn’t exactly the truth. So she could tell not exactly the truth. There were things that Talia was good at, things that at least she’d made use of in the future. She’d tricked a godling for quite some time into believing that she was an old woman that had known his family. Why couldn’t she bring out a hint of truth in the form of a gem? It reminded her of something she did with Rachel a few years back. As the two males spoke, she took a laxidazy turn about the room, not particularly touching anything but looking like she was passing time. Like she didn’t care to be here at the same time. What was it that her flame haired friend had said? The thin man turned his attention to her now, asking what she wanted. “Like every other sob story physical mutie. Sick of it. Sick of getting the run around. Sick of going through fifteen annoying hoops to get some questions about a place that’s supposedly accepting and some such BS.” She turned and sighed slightly. “Listen guy, I acknowledge that you have the power in this situation. You could tell us to get the hell out of here and not blink twice at us leaving. Whatver. I respect that. But I want to talk to our friend or someone else that’s going to answer questions and stays there long enough to not soak their own stench into the wallpaper of an apartment in mutant town.” The man didn't seem to be bothered in the least by Talia's insults, nor did he betray how he felt about what she'd said about the reason they were here. He took a sip of coffee without looking at them, almost as if he'd dismissed them from his mind. “What? Summers dies and his kids all decide to run away from home?” He finally looked back up at them, “Don't know you, girl. But that one,” he nodded at Josh, “Pretty sure he's the one who used to be gold. Been at the school for years.” He glanced between the two of them, “So that's what's goin on here? You guys decide to up and leave because your daddy died? You serious about this? Because this ain't about me wavin my dick around sweetheart. This is about the fact that if I let the wrong people in, it's my head on the chopping block. I haven't even said exactly who it is I'm looking for. As far as I'm concerned, everything I've said is hypothetical.” He took another sip of coffee, “An we all got our little mutant problems to deal with, girlie. You're ugly as hell and I stink like Lucifer's ass.” “She's not ugly,” Josh quipped, annoyance in his voice as he took a step or two forward. He was about to ask about Scott's death, but was concerned that it would tip the man off to the real reason they were here, “And don't talk about him like that. The school lost a great man and it's not been the same since.” The man just shrugged, “Whatever. I called somebody. They can deal with you when they get here.” Deal with them. That didn't sound so pleasant. He asked about Summers dying and Talia kept a straight face. She was able to, probably easier than most, because this wasn't the first time she'd talked about his death. It wasn't the first time in her life he'd died, though this one was a fresher wound. The man was lucky that Rachel wasn't here....and was lucky that his insults at Summers had stopped there. She almost spoke up, almost said something about how it was switched and maybe teleport over to the dickhead. But no, she behaved and only narrowed her eyes. Apparently it wasn't working as well as she might have hoped but, alas, there was no taking back the words even if she wanted to. Which she didn't. She was more concentrated on refraining from punching him. Josh defended her appearance for her and she chuckled, glancing over at him, relieved that his attention was on the smelly man and not on her right this moment. "Well then. Looks like we wait." Talia moved over to the couch and crossed her legs at the ankle, resting her elbow on the arm of the couch beside her to prepare to be 'dealt' with. |

Telepathy/Telekinesis
|
“Exodus, teleport bay three is ready for your departure,” a voice stated over the communicator that Azure wore. She looked over to Exodus and nodded to him, and they both stood and moved towards the door. As they walked through the terminal towards the assigned teleportation bay, Azure held up what looked to be something similar to an iPad. “Current New York time is 3:30 PM. The weather is 22 degrees celsius, partly cloudy and it is not currently raining. It seems like a lovely day for a meeting,” she commented, looking towards Exodus for approval. He moved his eyes towards her and raised both brows. “The weather does not matter. But the meeting with...” ::Exodus, a message that you may be interested in just came across the wire. Link says that it should be handled urgently,:: a voice game into his head, coming from Stranger. Exodus and Azure both paused and looked at one another, both having received the telepathic message at the same time. They then looked back to the front, moving swiftly back down the hallway. As they walked, Exodus said, “Stranger. Send me all you know.” In a moment's time, information crossed across to him through telepathic means. Everything, including the message that the low level recruiter had sent, was planted into Exodus' and Azure's minds, giving them the knowledge and memory of the situation. Exodus saw the footage from a video feed that was within the recruiter's home, heard the message, and even heard that they were seeking to communicate with a friend here. “Mercury, perhaps,” Azure chimed in, going over the information at the same time as Exodus. “Are they lying?” Exodus smirked, walking into the teleportation bay and raising his hand in greeting at the mutant that was charged with the traffic through this bay. “Oh, there is no doubt,” Exodus said, turning towards Azure. “Change of plans, my dear. Reschedule my meeting and change my destination to this recruiter's home. I will deal with these X-men personally.” “But sir, we could easily send a scout team to capture and interrogate them,” Azure protested, but she didn't put up much of an argument. “No... they are sticking their hands where they do not belong. It is only fitting that they pull out the very thing that they do not wish for,” Exodus said, then pointed towards the mutant teleporter. “Inform him of the change.” He then turned and walked towards the disc of light as Azure scrambled towards the teleporter, quickly issuing out the new coordinates to the mutant. For a moment, the disc of light shifted, and then it fully reformed just as Exodus got to it. Then there was a bright flash of light... Meanwhile in New York City... "Well then. Looks like we wait." Not long after the words left Talia's mouth, a blinding light flooded the room. The light faded into the shape of a man and when the light died out, Exodus was left behind. It took him just a moment to gauge his surroundings, but then his nose twitched as the foul smell of the home reached his nostrils. Turning at the waste and looking behind him, he looked at the sleezy looking man who sat in the recliner drinking coffee. “They sent you?!” the sleeze-bag exclaimed upon seeing Exodus' face, his hand shaking one time and causing the coffee to spill into his lap. The man yelped as his groin burned and hopped out of the recliner, nearly running into Exodus in the process. “They?” Exodus asked, reaching up and catching the man by the collar with both hands. He yanked the man close, lifting him off of the ground slightly in the process. “You will be silent,” he ordered, then pushed the man back down into the recliner. The sleezy man relaxed and slid back in his chair, an odd smile coming to his face as his eyes glazed over. Exodus turned towards Josh Foley and Talia Wagner, giving them both a once over before a welcoming smile came to his face. “Hello, young mutants,” Exodus began, bringing both hands behind his back. His eyes moved towards Talia and lingered there. “I am Exodus. And I apologize for...” he looked around at the surroundings, making a face. “This. We are not usually this uncivilized... but we have our loose ends, as all large factions do. Now tell me, who is this friend that you seek?” |

Josh stood against the door, arms crossed over his chest as TJ made her way to the man's couch; it was all he could do to keep a glare fixed on the man as she plopped down on it. He wondered what exactly it was about this man's mutation that made the house smell so bad and if it had done anything to the furniture. Or walls, Josh thought as he pushed himself off the door he'd been leaning against. Still glaring at the man, he decided to make his way into the living room and halted beside the arm of the couch. Arms crossed, he started to settle his gaze on the man once again when a blinding light flashed, forcing Josh to squint as he threw a hand up to shield his face from the unexpected assault. Red spots danced across his vision as he saw the apartment resident haul himself out of his chair and run directly into the new person standing in the living room. The man had grabbed him by the collar and was clearly chastising him, though whatever he was saying was escaping Josh's attention. He knew who this man was at a glance... there was no doubt in his mind. A couple of low-wrung X-Men show up and knock on the door of some small-time Brotherhood muckety-muck. We get in here and ask about some other low-level Brotherhooder and get some flack for it. This guy basically acts like we're a couple of house flies. And the freaking Devil shows up!? Way to kill a mosquito with a canon... It was Exodus. When Exodus turned and apologized for his associate's lack of manners, that simply made him all the more creepy to Foley. He'd seen footage of this man turn several of his fellow X-Men into soft balls while reaming London in a way they hadn't had since Death several years back. This guy was an embodiment of nightmare... and he was standing in the middle of a slum wearing an oily smile and apologizing to them for the uncivilized behavior his lackey had displayed. This day had suddenly taken a turn for the worst. He was reminded of something Warren had once said to him years ago: Don't let them see you sweat. “Pretty sure you already know, Exodus,” Josh said as he tried to do his damned best to look as calm and rational as possible. He made it a point to keep his eyes fixed on the Acolyte's face. This guy was a telepath. For all Josh knew, he already knew what their plans were. He thought briefly about going into the whole lie about them wanting to feel Sanctuary up for themselves using their old classmate as a tour guide, but... telepath. His fists at his sides, Josh shrugged a shoulder and simply came out with it, “We're investigating who killed Cyclops.” |

Talia’s muscles hardly had a chance to relax when the light filled the room. Her eyes weren’t exactly light sensitive normally, but to be blinded in such a way caused her to flinch and cover her eyes with her hands. She could hear the sleezeball squealing about something. A deep voice questioned him and she rubbed her face, eyes focusing as Exodus held the man up and clearly did some telepathic mumbo-jumbo to him. She knew it was Exodus before he introduced himself, before he looked at her because she looked at him. Her father had been there in London to fight against him, though she wasn’t aware of any other connections he might or might not have to her family. Right now her mind was trying to process the fact that they’d reached into the top hand and instead of fishing their wish, they pulled out a shark. Smoke enveloped her body and she disappeared from her location on the couch and was in an instant at Josh’s side, hand slipping into his without a glance over to him. She wasn’t sure how all of this would go down and couldn’t help but show the skepticism on her face. Expecting words about cessily, she couldn’t help but look over at Josh with surprise. It made sense, of course. Exodus was a telepath and a telekinetic beyond their capabilities. She straightened up a little bit, steeling her expression. She’d witnessed terrible things in her lifetime. Watched far too many people die for her own good. She’d fought sentinels and survived with her friends to come back to… She glanced at Josh briefly. Something about the situation though was off.... he wasn't coming across threatening at all. There was the threat, of course, because she knew what he was capable of. Considering what she'd just experienced with Rachel, it wasn't something she was looking to repeat with someone like Exodus. But the fact of the matter was that he didn't attack them. He asked them questions. He apologized for the setting, pretty much, and it was all just very...odd. “Well there you have it, Exodus.” She said, giving her friend a slight smile then returning her gaze to the leader of the Brotherhood before them. “I’m Nocturne. But I don’t see how the appearance of two young, clearly X-men aligned people, could pull someone of your caliber here. I mean seriously? I expected a flunky at the most maybe an acolyte. So tell me….. why you?” |

Telepathy/Telekinesis

“Investigating the death of Scott Summers?” Exodus questioned, raising a brow. He nodded at Josh thoughtfully as Talia chimed in, wondering how they obtained the attention of someone of his level within the Brotherhood. Turning his head towards her, he gave her a smirk, but the welcoming tone in his voice faded away quickly as he continued, “Don't fool yourself into thinking that you deserve my attention, girl. Nor do you require an Acolyte's attention. I simply have other business here in New York City, and I am saving some of my people a trip here to deal with you. It is good that you both know who I am, unfortunately I do not know either of you.” He looked between them, telepathic strings being pulled behind the scenes. As he said the words of not knowing them, their names came into their minds willingly or not, requiring only a surface scan to obtain who they were. They spoke the truth about what they were seeking, which surprised him. In a way, it gave him a bit of respect for Josh Foley. Though the boy was scared, he stood up and spoke the truth. Not many could say that they would do the same. “Josh and Talia,” Exodus said after a moment's pause, letting them both know that he had just pulled that tidbit of information from their minds. Josh, he recognized from the school. Mainly he recognized the boy due to the good work that he had done during the Purifier's attack on the mansion, where he went around healing X-men, Hellfire and Brotherhood until he was at the point of exhaustion. Again, respect was given to the young man for this. Talia, however, he did not recognize from anywhere. However, she did resemble the pesky teleporter who called himself Nightcrawler. Not to mention he had just witnessed her teleport in a similar fashion. “Since you have not lied to me, I will not lie to either of you,” Exodus stated, giving a moment of time to look for a place to sit. It was a futile effort though and he smiled and nodded towards Josh knowingly, and was satisfied with standing. If they were expecting a demon to have arrived before them, they were going to be disappointed. “Mercury does not know anything about what you seek. The Brotherhood had nothing to do with the murder of your headmaster. All of us, for the most part, feel that it was a great loss to mutants around the world to know a man of his stature die in such a way.” Exodus looked to Talia. “We stand on opposing sides and more often than not, we are put against each other as enemies,” he said, his voice strong and rather passionate about what he said. Exodus had a very commanding presence, whether that was a telepathic notion or a natural one was debatable. “But it is not my desire to have the Brotherhood destroy your school or the people there. No, you all do good work and you provide training and help for mutants everywhere. The Illuminati, on the other hand...” He trailed off a moment, eyes shifting between the both of them. Another smile was given and he raised a hand up to his chest to motion towards himself. “I personally know nothing of it. If I were to slay one of you X-men, it would not be in a cowardly manner such as that... and it would not be here in the private setting of a hideous little man's living room,” he explained, dropping his hand to his side. “But you have been trained to not believe a word that I have said. So...” As Exodus said the words above, which were mostly directed towards Josh, his telepathic powers once again took flight. His mind moved across the room and touched Talia's consciousness, and she would be able to feel the curiosity that Exodus had about her. ::Talia Wagner. Nocturne. You will tell me about where you have come from,:: the words came to her, beckoning her to open her memories of the future. “...take it with a grain of salt, Mr. Foley,” Exodus finished his statement to Josh, giving no indication that he was currently prodding the mind of the girl that stood next to him. |

Oh this guy was good. He was really good. Exodus hadn't just outright denied that the Brotherhood had no part in the death of Scott, but he also proclaimed it to be a cowardly thing. It was something none of his people would even do to such a man... he went on to claim that they approved of the school and what they did for so many mutants. His tone and manner was so calm and in control; he met Josh's golden eyes with a poker face that would have made the guys at the world tour envious. And then he turned it around and predicted that Josh wouldn't believe him... almost as if that was a foregone conclusion. And Josh had no freaking clue what to think. He didn't like this at all, having a man in his head walking around as if he were perusing shelves of books at a library. He took a book down and read their names, yanked Cessily's identity out like it was an index card, and acted as if he were having a conversation with an old school pal instead of a couple of the enemy. This man who had brought destruction to London not long ago... who had caused so many of the bruises and injuries that Josh had spent hours repairing later. I hate feeling this way. I hate feeling helpless like this. I shouldn't be feeling this way. Isn't there something I can do? Some way of blocking telepathy? Surely there's got to be a way to do it. How does Gambit do it? Or that Deadpool guy? If I just knew how that worked, then maybe... No, Josh. Now's not the time to play science major. Just deal with this and worry about that crap later. Josh fought the urge to run a hand through his hair and it took every single ounce of self control not to give in to such a bad tell. He simply clenched his fists, his mind racing with a way to reply to Exodus. “Okay,” he said without having a clue what words would come out next, “Say I believe you that you didn't have Scott killed. Maybe I believe you when you say that you like what Xavier's is all about.” He nodded at the greasy man who lived in the apartment they stood in, “Are you suggesting that you might know who did do it when you mention the Illuminati?” The Illuminati were a big suspect for a lot of people, and Josh couldn't blame them. What Exodus had just said could possibly suggest that they'd been right. If the man could be believed. How could he know for sure that what he was thinking right this moment wasn't influenced by Exodus as well? He glanced at TJ, squeezing her hand in his briefly before looking back to the Acolyte. What if he was doing something to both their brains this very moment? “Look, if you know something and didn't have anything to do with this,” Josh said, sweating as he did, “Then why not tell us? It'd be pointing a pretty dangerous foe on someone else, and I'm guessing from the way you described their methods that you don't exactly think highly of them.” He couldn't believe he was actually suggesting becoming a cat's paw for the leader of the Brotherhood. We should just get out of here ten minutes ago. |

((JP exodus and Nocturne)) Josh squeezed her hand as Exodus spoke and she held on, listening to his words very carefully. The man spoke about Scott’s death in an almost empathetic way, touching his chest and saying he had nothing to do with it. But the way he said it made her want to narrow his eyes. She highly doubted that he knew nothing about it, but she wasn’t about to go poking about someone like him. Hell, she couldn’t even possess him for the answers. He was out of her league on that. She stiffened slightly when his consciousness touched her own. She could feel his curiosity as he spoke to her, speaking her name. Asking where she came from. It took some concentration but she forced herself to relax back to normal. “He has a point.” She spoke to keep Josh from worrying, knowing the kind of person Exodus was. He could easily obtain the information through ways she didn’t want to explore again. Once enough had been more than enough. Her eyebrow rose slightly but she did not open up her thoughts just yet. But at the same time, she didn’t openly deny him. ::Do you think you can handle the future, Exodus?:: ::The future,:: Exodus replied into her mind, his eyes never leaving Josh Foley's. Outwardly, his physical body appeared to be registering the conversation with the young man, but his telepathy was now beginning to take the dominant role in his thought processes. What she said, where she was from, it was all very different to him. He wanted to know all about this girl and the time she came from. “The Illuminati has many different people within it, some of which are controlling factions of their own...” Exodus began saying to Josh. However, in Talia's perspective, time would appear to slow down considerably and Exodus turned his head to look upon her. ::Show me, girl.:: Talia glanced over at Josh then back at Exodus. This man wasn’t Jimmy or Josh or any of the others that she might be comfortable sharing the future with. This man was a member of the Illuminati. A member, if not the leader, of the Brotherhood. He had telepathic abilities that she could do nothing against…. But she could teleport. She could teleport them right outside the building and they could make a run for it, escape… But that was too far to go. She could probably make it outside with him but she couldn’t just teleport them back to the school. And if she wasn’t fast enough? Unfortunately being a telepath he would know that she was thinking of running. Especially at his calibur. She knew it, because Rachel would know it. Time felt as if it slowed down and he looked over at her, almost ordering her to show him. ::I don’t even know if it’s the future anymore. Things have changed. Scott Summers was not supposed to die.:: ::I understand,:: Exodus replied to her. In Talia's perspective, Exodus turned towards her and walked across the room. Though time seemed to be slowed for her, Exodus moved at a normal speed, indicating several things if she knew anything about telepaths. For one, he was already within and influencing her mind. What Talia would perceive was not what Josh would be experiencing. Thoughts moved at a rapid pace compared to real time, so for Josh and anyone else looking in, Exodus would still be in the middle of speaking to him. ::I could show you many things as well and one of them, to earn your trust, is to show you that I speak the truth when I say that Scott Summers did not die by the Brotherhood's hand,:: Exodus continued, arriving just in front of her. He was much taller than the girl and he had to look directly down upon her. Reaching out, Exodus touched his hand to the side of Talia's face, and the touch opened the memory of where he was the morning that Scott Summers died. Many things would flash within her mind. Sanctuary. The Brotherhood's actions that day. His actions and thoughts that day. Even his feeling when he learned of Scott's death was exposed to her. There was no joy in the knowledge of the X-men's leader being killed, but neither was there remorse. In short, Talia would know Exodus spoke the truth, because he showed her the truth of his words. ::I have no reason to lie to you, Talia,:: he said, lowering his hand from her cheek and looking down into her eyes. A strange kindness radiated from him, no doubt more of his telepathic trickery, but he in reality he was attempting to show her that he was not the devil that she envisioned him to be. ::I am curious about what you have experienced in our future, even if it seems to have changed. I will not take the knowledge from you... but I feel like you want me to see it.:: And there goes the neighborhood. She looked over at Josh momentarily, glad at least that she could still see him there despite the fact that her mind was now under the influence of the man in front of her. He approached, speaking rather surprising words. They weren’t words of force, he was offering a trade. His hand touched her face and he did as he said he would. Rapid images flooded her mind as the memory of his day, of the 20th when she was in that hotel room, flooded her mind. She’d never seen sanctuary before and it caused a rise in her eyebrows. But through it all she didn’t see a lie. He might’ve been powerful enough to deceive her but oddly, she believed him. He did not feel remorse or any form of guilt, but he didn’t celebrate Scott’s death. That made a difference to her. He wanted to see the future, what she knew. What she experienced. But he didn’t want to take it, which again relieved her. He was being oddly… kind. She took a slow breath in and closed her eyes briefly. There was no way to know what all he would see, but there was much importance to know. Talia’s perspective on life was not a pleasant one. From her struggle as a mutant from birth. Being separated from the Humans. Treated and rounded and guided around like creatures worthy of death. Of what was happening to them. Then the explosion at the school when she was a child. Losing her father. The SHIELD attack that killed so many X-men. There were many things that were spotty, faded, places where she couldn’t fully remember. But there were other things that she could pull up. The New York scenery with the broken buildings, destroyed and rubble covered. Living in shelters and underground bases. Soldiers. Sentinels. Such terrible fights with sentinels. Scrounging for food. Scrounging to live. Then came the Hounds. She pulled her mind away from thoughts of Rachel but there were plenty of memories of other Hounds. Mutants used against their own kind until their bodies ran too ragged to work. Until they were killed. Unable to be saved. She pulled her thoughts away when her mind jumped to the final fight, the death of her friends. Many of the memories had surfaced with Rachel’s attack on her, but all of it clearly had an effect on her. She took a slow breath in to calm herself. What a life it was to live, if the resistance of mutants was run by a young Summers girl. She tried to keep the emotions out as much as she could but there was no stopping it. She could feel the lump in her throat and moisture threatening her eyes. ::The actions of the illumati will drive this faster at the rate they’re going. With what they’re doing.:: Just like that, without mentally provoking her or taking anything from her, Exodus gained access to the girl's memories. As she relived each one, Exodus stood by her side, taking in the rapidly changing scenery and experiencing it in a similar way to what she felt. It was not an easy task, remaining stoic as he saw a possible future for mutant kind. It made him sad, possibly influenced by Talia's own emotions, but he reacted to this sadness in a different way. It did not bring tears to his eyes, but it caused his brow to furrow with rage. This could not be their end. As Talia's memories began to conclude, Exodus plucked one particular from the strand of her consciousness. Suddenly they were both standing in a crumbled, post-Apocalyptic New York City. He did not recognize the street or the broken buildings around him. It was a chaotic scene. Fires burned somewhere in the distance and the sound of the city was replaced with the sound of a ruined people. Silence, mostly. It had an eeriness that he was not used to, especially in a place such as New York. Walking several paces ahead of her, Exodus put both hands behind his back and looked off into the distance, surveying the scene. He stood there silently for what seemed like several minutes, only turning to look back towards Talia when she informed him that the Illuminati would bring this destruction faster. ::I have no doubts that the Illuminati is and will be capable of this level of destruction,:: Exodus replied, looking back towards the rubble that was New York once more. He reached a hand back towards Talia, beckoning her to join him by his side. ::But what you fail to realize is that this future... it is exactly what I strive to prevent. I am not playing this game for power or fame. Yes, I hope that all mutants and humans alike recognize my name when they here it. It is why I announce proudly before a battle who I am, so that men and mutants who oppose me know for certain who is bringing their fate down upon them.:: Exodus looked over to Talia once she stood by his side. ::Everything that I do within the Illuminati... the powers promised to me from Doom... they will all be used to ensure that mutantkind has a place in the future. The X-men are fools in this regard. They think that we can negotiate and work with the humans, but this?:: Exodus motioned to the scene of New York before them. ::This is why I fight. The X-men and all other mutants who stand between our rightful place will fall by the wayside. You say the future is not certain, yet you provide me with a glimpse and inspiration for what I fight for,:: Exodus smiled and chuckled, yet it was in a sad way. ::And I am called a villain for attacking humankind. I am attempting to prevent them from being capable of... well.. this.:: He reached towards her and without realizing it she walked forward, explaining that he was not in business with the illuminati for fame or glory. He spoke about preventing a future like this one… she wasn’t sure how many people there were that would strive towards it honestly. But knowing that he wasn’t as destructive as she thought was an interesting notion. Though it was possible for him to be lying… why would he stay with the Brotherhood once the illuminati came up? He had more access to power from the sounds of it. If he didn’t believe in the cause, there would be no reason to deal with them. No sense in it for a person like him. ::I won’t lie and say I haven’t doubted it before. But things right now… there’s so much more hope now. So much more opportunity.;: She stepped forward into the memory, hand stretching out slightly to hover over the rubble and look around the setting. Her grip on Josh’s hand on her actual body released as well. She wondered if it was better for her, for them, to have stayed in this place. Maybe the four of them had caused this, maybe they had caused Scott’s death. Or at least sped it up. She took a short breath in and turned to look at the villain. ::They get pretty creative in their methods.:: She thought, ::I’m here to fix things. I don’t remember… but that doesn’t matter as much. No matter what I will make sure that this future doesn’t happen. Even if it means that I stop existing once it’s fixed.:: Exodus nodded to Talia, then looked at her with a smirk. ::I am a renegade hero of sorts today. It is only a few who realize this. If you have come to fix this, then you are not where you should be. Few are willing to do what is truly needed. It is why I respect what the X-men do... they give mutants a place of to belong and something to make themselves feel worth while... and yes, they have done many great things. But this will always be at the end of the road if we fail... if I fail.:: He turned towards her, and suddenly they were back within the room again, she standing next to Josh and Exodus standing just before her. ::Do not worry, young mutant. You feel as if you were sent here to prevent this from happening, but it is we.. the Brotherhood... who fight against this every day. You are not alone and as long as I breath, no mutants shall be a slave to a human's demands.:: Just as suddenly as they were back in the room, Exodus was across the room in his original position, his eyes focused on Josh Foley. Time reverted back to a normal speed, and Exodus was just finishing his statement to Elixir. “...If you think that I know what each person within their own faction is up to, then you are sorely mistaken. I can only give an account for the Brotherhood and myself. Take it or not, that is the only answer I have to give.” She seemed to blink a few times and they were back in reality. Her hand had released Josh's and she almost grabbed it again but knew that it wouldn't be because of worry. Right now, aside from the threat Exodus posed due to his Illuminati affiliation, she doubted he would attack. Not after seeing that. For a moment she looked at Exodus with an unreadable expression then turned slightly to Josh. "Come on. It's time for us to go. We've gotten everything we can from here." Her hand gripped the door handle and she glanced back momentarily, nodding at Exodus. ::I'm sure we'll meet again.:: |

“He has a point.” “Thanks,” Josh said, glancing over at TJ and then feeling silly for saying it. Come on, Josh... keep it professional. Don't let him see you as the guy you really are – with Batman pajama pants who studies with cartoons on the TV and falls asleep sometimes with a half-eaten bag of doritos. He gave TJ another furtive glance. Actually... don't let her know that side of you either. “The Illuminati has many different people within it, some of which are controlling factions of their own... If you think that I know what each person within their own faction is up to, then you are sorely mistaken. I can only give an account for the Brotherhood and myself. Take it or not, that is the only answer I have to give.” Foley chewed on his bottom lip as he thought about Exodus's reply to him, looking around the room briefly to buy him a bit of time. That was when he felt the warmth of TJ's hand in his leave; his gaze shot down to her hand and then up her arm to her face. She looked... like she'd just been told something confusing perhaps? His gaze flickered back and forth between the pair of them, and he couldn't help but wonder if something had happened. Her hand was back in his almost immediately. Josh's first thought was that maybe he was just being paranoid... after all, he didn't know TJ near as well as he knew someone like Nori or Billy. And yet... Josh opened his mouth to accuse the telepath of doing something to his friend when TJ spoke up, giving him a very serious look as she did so. She believed that they'd gotten everything they could from Exodus. Had something happened in the few seconds he'd been chewing on his lip? Freaking telepaths! “You sure about this?” He asked as he shot Exodus a sideways glance. “Is everything okay?” |

(JP with Elixir and Talia) ::By the by... you make a lot of sense when you talk about the Brotherhood. I'd say drop the illumi-nutty.:: Talia looked over at Exodus when Josh asked his first question and she nodded. It was true that this night, what she'd just conversed, was an entirely different side to the telepath than she'd ever seen from him. Though she doubted he would, and knew that not all of him was squeaky nice as he was acting, she still preferred the civility to the fighting. She wrapped her arms around Josh in a hug and smoke inveloped them as she envisioned the street next to his car. With the same accompanying sound, she felt her shoes touch down on the pavement. "Everything is just fine. But I think we need to rethink our plan from here. Last thing I want is to come across that skeevy Vulcan." Josh backed away from her as the smoke cleared, barely aware of the faint brimstone smell that permeated the air. His brow furrowed in concern as he looked at her in concern, not even bothered about the fact that they had just escaped Exodus without incident. “Yea... what the hell just...” She slid into the other side and snatched up his sunglasses, sliding them onto her face as she glanced back at the apartment. She doubted Exodus was going to come after them right now but, at the same time, she didn’t know him very well. One conversation, one understanding, didn’t pass off for friendship. Didn’t make him less dangerous. “He knew about me. I um... I showed him...some of the future." She looked out the side window, hand covering the lower part of her face. "Don't tell Rachel. If she finds out, she finds out but please just don't tell her." “No way... I wouldn't,” Josh said, glancing in the direction of the apartment as he pulled out of his parking space and gunned it faster than he normally would have. “You showed him? Some of the future? Like... inside your head? You guys took a walk in side your head?” That was disturbing as hell to think about... that guy could have made the few seconds of eye contact seem like an entire lifetime. What the hell had he done to her inside that head for such a long period of time? What if he'd completely rewritten parts of her mind? He finally turned to look at her for the first time, real concern burning in those golden eyes, “Oh man... TJ, that's not good. I'm so sorry. What did he do?” She nodded to his first sets of questions, his concern causing a little bit more inside of her. But when he asked about what he did she made a sort of confused face. "Actually... he didn't do anything. I mean, aside from altering my perspective he didn't force information from me. He didn't hurt me and he was actually really.... respectful. Like... he went on a speech about how he wanted to prevent that from happening. It was.... weird." She looked over at him. "He was really nice actually. Not the usual type of 'show me the future' things I get. You know?" Josh knew all too well what she meant. When they had first shown up, people had been dying to find out about their futures. There had been speculation and guessing for months, and Josh had gotten quite fed up with it. Yea... he'd been curious about his own future. He'd wanted to know how the story ended, but he had come to a conclusion days after Rachel and the others had arrived – that wasn't his future. Every time they opened their mouths, they pushed everyone further away from the future they had come from. Josh was still curious, and it had been all he could do to keep from asking them about his own destiny... but it helped to remember that the answers would be about people he didn't even know. “Yeah,” he finally replied, “I can see how attractive that might be.” Concern was heavy in his voice and he looked over at TJ, “Look... we're talking about someone who could easily bend your mind into thinking that he's a cool guy, so it's not really that far-fetched to believe that he hit you with some pretty tricky stuff.” He fell silent, worried that he might be backing them both into a position that would be hard to get out of. He ran a hand through his hair and expelled a deep sigh, “You know... I feel like I should apologize for dragging you into that and putting you in that kind of danger.” He glanced over at her again, “But I have a feeling that wouldn't be the right thing to say. You can pretty much do whatever you want.” "Yeah, yeah. I know he could. I'm just saying he didn't force anything. My mental defenses are actually not bad. My possession abilities are heavilly mental. But at the same time, he easily was able to mess with my perfeption so. He's scary strong. I didn't know him in the future, so he just got the general 'ohh shiny destroyed city' bits." She smiled when he continued, "I have a penchant for this kind of thing, I think. But so do you." Her eyes flicked over, hidden by the glasses, and watched him for a moment. "Besides, nothing dicey happened with my powers. But, if you'd like, I can give myself a papercut for you to fix." Josh cut his eyes at her with a look of extreme but fake annoyance as they zipped around a corner and out of sight from the apartment. “Keep talking like that, Wagner, and you'll need a good healing after I get done with you.” He stuck his tongue out the corner of his mouth briefly to show that it really was just banter. “Okay so the Brotherhood is upset and sad that Scott's dead. They didn't come to the funeral, but I guess I can forgive them for that. Logan would have made a scene, and that's not appropriate at funerals.” He shook his head, “Yea... we're gonna need backup before we do anything like that again.” His heart rate was beginning to slow down as they were obviously free from immediate danger, “Man I can't believe we just had a heart-to-heart with Exodus, TJ. Well... you did. You realize that we were in there for roughly two minutes?” He glanced at TJ again, “You sure he didn't see anything that couldn't bite us in the ass down the road?” “Oh? I’ll need a good healing after you get done with me?” She chuckled and shook her head. She pushed the glasses down slightly and raised her eyebrows at him, trying not to burst out laughing. “I know the truth. I’m too cute for you to hurt me.” The brotherhood. “They weren’t exactly…. Sad. At least he wasn’t, I don’t know about anyone else there. It was like he mourned the loss of an important mutant, not the loss of Scott. It was… weird. But I got to see what Sanctuary looked like. Kind of cool but it’s no Xaviers.” “Two minutes? Talk about your life flashing before your eyes. I showed him a bunch of stuff but tried to keep anything personal out of there, except for certain things. The city, sentinels were the biggest. SHIELD killing…” She refrained to say who. “And what happened to the school. That might bite us in the ass but the X-men weren’t really the X-men. Not the way they are now. Most of the ones that survived weren’t the same.” She pulled the glasses off and slipped them back into the holder. “I miss the people I knew, but I like their current versions better. They’re a lot happier. You’re a lot happier.” That was the first time she'd said anything to him about his future self. Aside from that one slip-up in the infirmary that had turned into a really awkward moment. It made Rachel's appearance a welcome one as TJ had been awfully uncomfy with what had been said in her moments of confusion. Josh had felt bad for that incident despite the fact that it hadn't been his fault. It had felt like he'd invaded a very personal moment that she hadn't really wanted to share. Almost as if walking in on her by accident while she was changing or something. Moments passed in complete silence as what she said hung in the air like a giant skeleton that had left the closet weeks ago. Josh finally decided to acknowledge it. "You were about to call me Oscar. Back when I had you in the infirmary." He looked out the window, "I guess I never lived that name down. Even after twenty years." She’d been lucky in the infirmary when Josh had agreed to let go of her mistaken identity…. Either way it had been Josh she’d woken up to there. But it wasn’t the one she was more familiar with. It was this one. If she was willing to share information with Exodus under the possible threat of force, why not Josh? “The nickname died a long time before I picked it up.” She said. “I used it ironically because the entire time I knew you, your skin was pitch black.” Straightening up in the seat she took a short breath in. “We raided a hospital once. For supplies. We had a lot of really injured people and in one of the rooms, bound up was you. We rescued you but you were…” She paused and glanced over at him. “You were really frail, Josh. They’d been using you as a one man triage for god knows how long. But we thought you were dead for years before we found you again. It took awhile for you to recover physically but… I could barely coax a smile out of you half the time. And not for trying, either. You and I…” She paused to take a short breath in. That was enough, right? He didn't need to know anything aside from facts. Only solid facts. "We were cool." Josh remained silent for a long time after TJ had shared a piece of her past and a part of his future with him. He hadn't expected it and was definitely surprised when she'd fallen into story time. The truth about his own fate was incredibly sobering and robbed him of any smart-alek comments he was getting in the habit of saying or thinking. To be treated like that... a piece of machinery. That couldn't be too bad, could it? How many lives did future Foley save because they'd harnessed his power? Thousands? Millions? Who could say? Oh come on Josh. Don't be a total wang. They probably used you to heal soldiers so they could send them back in the field to do more killing. There's no honor in that fate no matter which way you spin it you asshole. "Man," Josh muttered, his gaze still fixed on the road, "Scott predicted the hell out of that." He looked to TJ, wondering what 'we were cool' exactly meant. Like hell was he going to start reading too much into what he was saying, but little tidbits here and there made for some interesting questions. He stared at her for a long moment as if trying to put together a puzzle. Finally he rested an elbow on the arm rest between the two seats and held a fist straight up, knuckles facing TJ for a silent request for a fistbump. It didn't even occur to him that in the last few seconds he'd changed colors from black to gold. He turned his now-dark eyes back on the road a half-grin latched to his face, "Damn straight we were cool. Probably the coolest mutants left on the planet." She glanced over at him, a smirk spreading over her lips. She raised a blue hand to tap his knuckles lightly and shook her head. "At least." (exit Talia and Elixir) |
