Time: 9am Date: April 30th Still not quite believing that his application to SHIELD had been accented by the Director (Who he was pretty sure would have torn it up and laughed in his face when he saw it, given the events of last summer) but he hadn't and Wanda had cleared the fact that she didn't mind Tommy coming to start his training aboard the helicarrier now. Which suited Tommy perfectly fine the past couple of months had soured Tommy completely to the idea of the X-Men they were no longer what they were supposed to be, and were too busy fighting in battles to do what they needed to be done. Sure some people will have taken his leaving the school as him running away again and partially that was perhaps a little true, but that wasn't entirely the truth. Thomas Shepherd held a view of what he considered to be a hero was, and that involved protecting both human and mutant alike, the infighting at the institute was preventing him from doing that. So rather impulsively (honestly it is Tommy how else was he going to do it) He had contacted SHIELD and inquired about applying to the agency. Now several days later, a psych evaluation and a physical test, the latter of which the speedster found amusing. He had gotten his clearance and was now a trainee agent of SHIELD. Not something that many of his former class mates would have actually seen him as, given his reputation for rebelling against authority and the fact that his past has involved being arrested for breaking into SHIELD and for criminal damages against the school that he went to, before the institute. But he wanted to do good, which ultimately was the ruling factor for Tommy. He could tolerate being bossed about, he could handle being told he was wrong and he would follow the orders of others if it meant that he was actually doing something with himself rather than fighting so called allies who had decided that they were going to take over the school. With his leaving of the school, Tommy had to clear out his room at the school. Luckily he was able to dump his stuff at Wanda's home in the Undercity meaning that he wasn't homeless but it wasn't an ideal situation. But it would do for now and he liked the fact that he was getting to spend a little more time with his mom, but he didn't want to be under her feet forever. Rolling out of his new bed within a matter of minutes he was fed, washed and now sporting his new (and he hoped temporary) SHIELD uniform that was looser fitting than his usual green and silver one, and he doubted that the SHIELD one could quite handle him breaking into speeds that broke the sound barrier. Nor was he too much of a fan of the plain black appearance of it, but eh nothing is perfect and he'd get used to it he was pretty sure. Making sure his other uniform was stuffed into a rucksack, Tommy slung the bag over his shoulders before speeding at a somewhat slower speed than usual out of the hidden tunnels that he used to get into and out of the undercity without having to slow down too much. Making his way through the city, Tommy soon met with the SHIELD agents that were to escort him to the helicarrier. Giving him his new security badge, his feet tapped repeatedly as he was forced to sit still for the ride from the ground up to the helicarrier. Upon arrival he was pointed towards where all new visitors had to sign in. Security was incredibly tight, but that was to be expected given Spiral's announcement to the world that all heroes had to be killed. Letting his bag get searched, Tommy went through the search without questioning it, taking his bag back when it was offered to him. Speeding across to the desk Tommy held his ID card out to the woman behind it. "Thomas Shepherd, it's my first day." Offering the woman an easy grin as she took the ID scanning it and then handing it back to him. "Take a seat someone will be with you shortly." she replied, not wanting to sit. Tommy stuck the pass back in its holder and made his way to one of the seats. Waiting until someone came to pick him up. |

Carbon Form/Manipulation

JP Charcoal and Speed It was always hectic around SHIELD. Busy people skittering this way and that. Though Coal wasn’t totally sure how much was true business and how much was looking like you were in a hurry just in case the boss was watching. At least that was normally the case anyway. Right now, there was no doubt that everyone was busy as hell. This Spiral business had put everything on Charlie Sheen mode. One speed, one gear: Go. The young and now basic operations qualified agent stepped in through a door, getting in out of the wind outside. It was always windy on the carrier. He strolled up to the first line of security, showing his badge and stepping through a scanning device. He was sure it was showing up a standard issue M9, a comms device, his unstable molecule uniform and a big dusty pile. Sure enough, the people watching the screens weren’t worried and waved him on through. He gave them a nod and a smile as he headed off through the corridors. He had to report in, standard debrief stuff that he wasn’t sure he wanted to hurry off to. He made his way merrily along until a familiar face struck his vision. “Tommy? Hey man, what did they haul your ass in for? And which novice brought you here instead of holding?” Chris jested. __ Making himself comfortable, Tommy waited for whoever it was that was going to start off his new career as super spy. He’d already toyed around with the idea of what name he’d go by, and after playing his xbox he decided that eventually he’d like to wind up a commander, so people have to call him Commander Shepherd. Though that’d require someone to be his Wrex and he was pretty sure Billy wouldn’t want to play that role. Though Altman may be good for it, he’d have to check in on him at some point and test it out. A familiar voice caught the speedsters attention as he was busy thinking about codenames and such, “Hey Chris! For once I didn’t do anything.” His hand shot to the badge that was resting on his shiny new SHIELD uniform. “I signed up a little while ago. Today’s my first official day on board.” Smirking in response to the guy that he’d spent some time at the institute with. “How’s the new career working out for you?” __ Tommy smirked and claimed he hadn’t done anything. While Coal may have been surprised to see Speed as an official visitor he didn’t doubt that the white haired mutant was in the right place. Tommy pointed out his ID and Chris gave him a tip of the head and a surprised expression as if to say ‘well there you go, that’s not something you see every day’. “You an honest, hard working SHIELD boy? I’m almost more surprised than I was at my own change of heart.” Coal shrugged at the thought of his debrief and took the seat next to Speed, adopting a comfortable pose. Chris tried to put on a wistful tone of voice as he waved his arm in a wide slow arc before himself. “Some day Tommy… This’ll all be yours.” He remarked as the wide swing of his arm encompassed the uncomfortable seats, a half dead pot plant and the disabled toilets. Then Tommy asked about the life and Chris gave a smile and a nod. “Pretty good you know. Always interesting, plenty of people around, stuff to do, opportunities to climb the ladder and what not. It’s pretty good really. And hey, it’s already getting even better! Thanks to you I’m not bottom bitch any more.” The carbon agent joked. __ “Well mom and Uncle Pietro work here now and the schools not the same as it was. So I thought I’d put my chips in where I could actually do some good.” It was kind of odd to think that the majority of the Maximoff clan were now working for the same organisations that his grandfather had spent so long trying to destroy. He guessed that showed how much things were turning around for the family, rather than continuing to live under Magneto’s shadow. “That sounds… great?” Laughing a little as he looked at the great things that he wasn’t particularly all that interested in having. “Well I look forward to that all being mine then. Though I have no intention of ever needing a disabled toilet.” That would quite possibly be a cue to drive Tommy into madness unless someone was capable of making him a wheel chair that moved at the speeds he was used to. “Sounds good. Though I won’t be bottom bitch for long.” Grinning, as he hinted at the speed that he worked at. “Gimme a few months and I’ll be your boss.” He said quietly enough for the others in the room to not hear, though it was all in jest. __ Now that it was pointed out Chris did see that a lot of Speed’s family were part of SHIELD now. Hell even Billy was only one step away, what with him dating Teddy who was a current agent. “Well I guess that makes sense. And good on you for choosing to be active about it all man. Heaven knows we can always use and extra hand to hold up civilization with.” The carbon mutant added genuinely. When Tommy said he had no intention of needing a disabled toilet Charcoal laughed. “You already do! Mentally challenged counts.” The conversation wound on and ‘Agent Shepherd’ claimed he’d soon be Chris’ boss. Coal grinned. “If I was you I’d worry less about the promotion and more on getting your field wings. No doubt they’ll still want you to go through some training before they let you loose on the world, and the training her is tough man. Not so much the physical stuff, but all the stuff like official vocab guidelines and standard operating protocols, for guys like us that shit’s hard slog.” Coal added with a smirk. He was only half joking though. There had been a crazy amount about rules and regulations for different engagement protocols or whatever, and being tested on all that had really been harder to Chris than combat training. __ “Thanks. I’ve been thinking about it for a while honestly. I’m kinda surprised it took me this long to make up my mind.” Shrugging, usually Tommy’s decisions were made on the spot and then he lived with them, but this one he’d been sitting on since his tantrum at the school a few months back. But now it was mad, he wasn’t about to go back on it either. “Haha… you’re a funny man.” Tommy did his best to make a sarcastic laugh, “Don’t be jealous now man. I got the looks and the brains to go with them. I’m practically perfect.” Laughing again. “But I’ll make sure to send the key your way when I get my hands on it.” Despite Tommy never wanting to admit it he had been a little nervous about his first day, it was something new. But running into someone he knew already had helped ease him into this new venture. “Yeah I heard the training is pretty rough, I’m looking forward to it. Helps being a fast learning.” Not that he was some sort of super genius. He was just quick to learn stuff, whether he actually understood it though was a whole different ball game and was something that Tommy would have to see if he could hack that sort of training. “But it’ll be a good challenge for me I think. I’ve been coasting for too long.” __ Tommy seemed a little wary of the training. And as he should be. It was serious business. None the less, Chris was sure the white haired mutant would be just fine. “Look, don’t sweat it too much. You have X-men training and a really good handle on your powers. The training isn’t easy, but you’ll do more than fine I’m sure.” There was a pause and Chris could tell Speed was giving it some thought. “And hey, if you ever need a hand just give me a yell and I’ll do what I can to help you out.” He reassured. Over all though, the newer agent seemed relatively confident in himself. He said is seemed like a good challenge, said he’d been too lazy. Well, not in so many words… Chris smiled. “Yeah well there’s none of that around here. Especially not now with all this Spiral crap. You’ll hardly get a moment to catch your breath let alone coast. But hey, it’s all for a good cause right? The cause really. So I figure it’s worth it.” The carbon boy shrugged. “I like to think when I’m on my death bed- whether that be in 8 days on a sidewalk somewhere or in 80 years in a hospital bed- I like to think I’ll be able to look back and say that I tried my best to make the world a better place y’know?” __ “Thanks. Just a bit different to what I’m used to I think.” Shrugging and pushing the thoughts of anxiety from his head. He didn’t like letting people in too far, it was just the way he was. Guarded some people called it, though he was always quick to spout his mouth off if he had to, and by had to, it was usually on any topic that he felt like he had something to say on. Which was usually everything. “I’ll be sure to find you out if I get stuck. That’d be good, thanks.” Tommy appreciated the fact that there was someone he could talk to without any repercussions though if he got stuck. “Yeah this Spiral stuff is half the reason, I pushed my application in. Another pair of hands who can help are better than not having any new hands at all right?” Which was ultimately what Tommy wanted to do, he wasn’t in it for the fame or recognition. He just wanted to help people even if he went about it the wrong way sometimes. “Still not quite sure how I’m gonna cope being cooped up, up here. But Uncle Piet manages so I’m sure there’s a way to make it bearable. Perhaps it’s all about the The Cause, and doing my part in that which makes it bearable.” Tommy hadn’t ever put much thought into it, but that sort of made sense in an odd kind of way to him. Nodding in response to the talk of being on his deathbed. “Yeah I get you there. Nobody can say we didn’t go out of our way to do what needed to be done. Even if the badge does make us unpopular with a lot people.” __ Tommy was talking a lot of sense. Coal had to admit Speed really did seem to have changed. Then again it was entirely possible the speedster was thinking the same of him. Chris guessed that was part of life, they were all growing up, becoming the adults they needed to be. Shepherd seemed to not be to sure how he was going to cope with the carrier environment, but Chris couldn’t see it being a problem, there was a surprisingly large amount to do up there after all. “You’ll be alright man. Seriously, between training at the gym and the firing range, doing work and taking on some ‘extra-curriculars’ I’m sure you won’t even notice it. Seriously, I’ve been skydiving every other day recently for advanced level training. It helps for the job, but it’s also an epic fun way to spend my down time.” He explained with a grin. The conversation came to a serious note and there was a pause as Chris looked back on his own negative views of SHIELD. Granted that had been back before the change in management. “Well you know, we may not be giving the orders but it’s our generation who will take over around here. And if we apply the same ideas of trying to make the world a better place to running SHIELD maybe we can help that too.” Charcoal spoke with a little smile. “Anyway though, I had better get moving, boss’ll be pissed.” Chris joked. “Good to see you man. Good luck on your first day and welcome to SHIELD, it’s nice having another familiar face we can rely on.” He added as he stood up, giving Tommy a nod before he set off down the corridor. Abruptly however the carbon agent turned back. “Oh and if anyone asks you if you want to help them out with a top secret 13-24: Just. Say. No.” __ “Sky diving?” Tommy’s nose wrinkled a little. “I could see that maybe being fun.” He’d have to try it to find out. Though he generally preferred to keep his feet firmly on the ground, where he could control the speeds that he moved at, that and flying always seemed… so dull to him. No skill involved or anything. “Sounds good though, I’m sure I’ll be fitting in, in no time.” He was being serious now, he had to treat it like he did the school or he was never going to fit in. He was going to throw himself into it and make the most of it and ride it out, there was no tantruming here and he very much doubted he’d get as many chances as he had from Scott. The conversation turned more serious, as he nodded. “That sounds right yeah, I’m looking forward to seeing how it works around here.” Honestly he was eager to get started, the anticipation was probably the hardest thing for Tommy, he liked instant gratification. It was the downside of everything moving a little different for the speedster, but like everything he’d get used to life in the clouds eventually. “Good luck with that. Heh. It was good to see you again Chris and thanks I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Nodding in response to the other agent. He just wanted to get the show on the road now and was certain he’d made the right decision for his career choice. “I’ll see you around, I’m sure.” Carbon began to walk away and then stopped and turned, mentioning a 13-24. “What’s a 13-24? Is that like a blocked toilet or something?” Tommy said a little sarcastically, not expecting it to really be that bad. But he wanted to know now. __ Chris gave a knowing smile before turning away again and continuing to stroll off. "Pray that you never find out Tommy!" He yelled back over his shoulder as a grin spread across his features. |

“Fascinating,” Monet said, observing an experiment as it tested fairly well, only malfunctioning at the very end, causing the gathered scientists to cringe. It was a fascinating failure indeed. “Even more so because your deadline is soon approaching and only a handful of successes have come from this.” With a clipboard in her hand, the agent notated her observations. She was merely the messenger, a flock of many that did as she was told in the aftermath of several Illuminati attacks. Her job was simple today: to check on the progress on several defense projects and report them to her superiors. Her logical mind gave her the advantage, and her direct approach would start the fire that urged fellow workers to increase productivity. “Let’s be sure tomorrow is more eventful, shall we? I would hate to see your work pulled and replaced by someone’s modern can opener that actually works.” Several unsatisfied glances were directed at her as she made her exit, still writing on the clipboard as the mechanical doors behind her slid closed. When she finished, a brief glance went to her wrist watch and then a finger rose to the com link that was positioned in her ear. She was given a new directive, topping the list of already extensive priorities necessary to complete her day, and Monet changed her direction. Her new destination would have her in a familiar area. It was a visitor area for some and a welcome area to others. A few years ago, it was both for Monet, remembering with clarity her first experience on the hellicarrier. She walked with purpose to the receptionist, who handed her a folder and then pointed in the direction of the speedster that just finished speaking with another agent. Monet observed the new recruit silently from afar, using her peripherals to keep him in view as she opened the folder and skimmed through it. Xavier’s School. An eyebrow rose as she came across that small detail, and then she closed the file and clipped it underneath the clipboard. “Shepherd, Thomas,” Monet announced as she approached him. There was a bothersome look in her expression, as if the very meeting was a nuisance and distraction from other duties that needed to be done. And it was, but her words remained professional despite it. “Welcome to one of many S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarriers. I am Agent M and will be your temporary guide while you are here.” Assuming he rose when she approached, Monet extended a hand in his direction in greeting, providing enough force to show that she was not just ordinary. “Follow me.” Her pace was quick, something Monet was sure was no problem for him after reading his file. The staff around them looked busy as they walked, with agents and scientists alike moving with purpose and demand. The guide looked the same way, except more poised, and she did not look back as she spoke to him. “You will be meeting with Agent 13 for orientation and to discuss your purpose. As a former student at Xavier’s School, I’m sure you’re familiar with this process. There is no sorting hat, I’m afraid, so please don’t be expectant.” “Do you have any questions so far?” |

Hanging around, each second felt like an hour to the speedster. Granted patience wasn't his strong point and perhaps it was an early test to see if he would be able to handle hanging around and waiting. But surely they would have gone for something a bit more testy? Tommy mused, as his foot idly began to tap away. He wanted to be running around, or engaging in something. Idleness was like Chinese water torture to him. He was a man of action and not one for desk work. But luckily for him he wasn't kept waiting for too long when a woman, a rather good looking, if not slightly too old for him woman. Who was reading some sort of fine, before it snapped shut and she approached him. "That's me. Though I prefer Tommy." Not that it was a big thing, he knew that he was likely going to be addressed by his full name a lot. But for him, he preferred to be called the shortened version. It made it sound a lot less like he was in trouble all the time which he had become used to as a younger male when his adoptive parents called him by Thomas each time he had done something wrong. "Thanks Agent M." He replied, the speed at which he was talking above average now, as his nerves got a little bit of the better of him. By government standards he was incredibly young and perhaps not quite ready for this job, though he was eager to prove himself. One way which he was looking to do that, was to leave off the information that he had been on the helicarrier though as something of a prisoner after the Skrull invasion when he decided to break into SHIELD for some attention and reassurance from his mother. The fact that he had thrown such a tantrum was the last thing that he wanted his new colleagues to know, that and the incident with Cassie in the toilets the time before he visited. But he was pretty sure that she wouldn't have gone telling anyone about that. Shaking her hand firmly, but not too firmly. He fell into step alongside her rapidly, given that even she moved at speeds that were slow for him. Adjusting himself for the slowness of others was something that the speedster had grown used to. Even if he preferred to move at his own speed. His head moving back and forth as they moved through the helicarrier at his superhuman speed as he took in the sights and sounds of his new work place. It was all very cool and perhaps would be a little overwhelming if he hadn't had a good grounding from his time at Xavier's. "That's fine. I wasn't expecting a sorting hat. My mom already works here, as does my Uncle. So I know a little bit about what goes on here." Not that he was name dropping, he understood fully that who he was related to wasn't going to help him in the slightest. As far as SHIELD was concerned he'd be working on his merit and if he screwed up it'd be on his head, though it helped him to know that if he messed up he'd be messing things up for Wanda and Pietro which made him all the more determined to stay on the straight and narrow. Asking if he had any questions. Tommy's mouth almost got the better of him as he bit back the comment about whether she had a cell phone number and whether he could possibly have it for work reasons. A harassment claim was the last thing that he needed on his first day. "hmmm. What's the food like up here? I have to eat a lot given my metabolism. Though I packed enough for today, it'd be useful to know what the cafeteria is like." It was a genuine concern for the speedster. Though he supposed if he was really, really tight. He could convince mom to magic up some grub for him. |

There were quite a few things to do on the Helicarrier, and not just for the agents. But there were things that needed to be done. There was every once in awhile, well, actually rather frequently that they got new recruits. People from the military, people wanting to fight against those with the supernatural influence. SHIELD had extensive training programs and extensive evaluations as well. With the amount of technology available to them it was no surprise they wanted to make sure it fell into the right hands. “The food can be hit or miss. Most of the time hit. But I’ll have to warn the cooks if that we have another speedster on board.” Agent 13 was not accustomed to doing orientations. It was something that she hadn’t done for at least close to four years because, frankly, she had better things to do with her time. As a numbered agent, 13 spent a good deal of her time away from the regular helicarrier. From special missions to her regular duties as a Liason, 13 like the other numbered agents, was a very busy person. There were some cases that required a bit more of attention, a little something extra. Thomas Shephard was one such case. The blonde SHIELD Agent uncrossed her arms and straightened up. “You’ve got the wrong twin for the Sorting Hat preference, I believe.” Light steps and she crossed the distance between herself and the two. For the sake of professional courtesy of course, she approached the other Agent and offered her hand out to her. Monet was a widely skilled agent and was always professional. “Agent M. Thank you for the assistance, I trust our new recruit has been nothing but pleasant to you?" |
