Oct. 11 about 7PM The pasta was boiling away very nicely while two more of his hands checked on the pork loin that he had just taken out of the oven. Taking the temperature, he nodded and then put it back in while his lowest set of arms opened a bottle of wine. For the past few weeks since the Morlocks had fallen apart, Anansi had been staying with Ariel. With the madness of everything going on around the world, the spider felt absolutely like a small little insect. The powers that were being displayed were almost godlike and the physically mutated man could do nothing against them. So he did what he could at local shelters, soup kitchens, clinics, and anywhere they could use the extra hands. It felt good to help those that needed it and with the world as crazy as it was, they definitely could use the help even from a giant spider man. Though on this night, Anansi was making dinner for his girlfriend with whom he was living with. Yet with the darkness that had blotted out the sun, it was hard to tell. So Ariel's apartment was currently very well lite up with the sound of piano coming out of the speakers. It had been 9 months since the two of them had started to date, and it still shocked Anansi that someone could care as much as she did for him. So since he was staying at her place he had decided to cook them a nice dinner. Pork loin with orzo side with a nice salad and a few bottles of wine. With her food needing to be slightly chilled, he had a dish set to the side that had been chilled. Wiping his hands on a dish cloth he walked over to the window and switching to his infrared vision he looked out into the darkness. Lights below glowed and people glowed varying colours or warmth. Shaking his head he looked up at the sky at the blocked out moon and the perpetual darkness that had been caused by a mutant. Anyone that had the power to block out the sun had a power close to godhood, and that terrified him. Hearing the sound of a door opening he saw Ariel come in but didn't say anything to her instead just looking out the window at the darkness with his hands crossed behind his back. |

Ariel looked at her door from the hallway. Everything had changed. So much had been lost, so much was still slipping from the grip of mankind and here she was… returning home from another day at work like nothing was going on. The cold mutant couldn’t help but shake the feeling that she was lying to herself and she couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was. But she knew one thing for certain. Behind this door, inside of her apartment was a person she loved dearly. Waiting for her to come home. Hiding in her apartment after he lost his own home. She took a deep breath before unlocking the door with her keys, opened the door and stepped inside. “Hey.” She said and closed it putting her bag on the floor in the hallway and taking her shoes off. “Have you been waiting for long?” she asked before stepping inside and smiled as she saw what he had prepared for them. “It smells great, but you know I can’t eat hot food.” She said and looked at him. Having him around meant keeping the temperature above freezing and despite the sun being blocked and her powers being at its peak outside, she could still feel herself weakened in her own home and warm food would definitely cause her pain and suffering. She knew he meant it well, but she couldn’t help but feel a bit irritated by the whole situation. Like she was losing control of everything and the one place she should be strong and powerful was her own home. This was the place she needed to protect if anything went wrong. She walked over to him and kissed his cheek, leaving a trace of frost on his small hair that quickly melted away. “How was your day?” she asked stepping towards the table. |

"Hey sweetheart," he said as he watched her come in and take off her shoes and bag with a look on her face "and no not long at all." His eyes looked over her tired form and could definitely see that something was wrong. Anansi figured that it had to be to him staying at her place after the Morlocks disbanding. With so few of them leaving and those remaining, it seemed almost logical for them to go their own way. Thankfully Ariel had offered him a place to stay for a time while he figured things out, but it was taking a toll on her. Having adjusted the temperature in her house, it was having an effect on her and he could see it. When she mentioned the food he turned and spoke to her "Actually I picked up a little chiller from a mutant mechanic in town, he said it will chill cooked food to whatever you need it to. He's never steered me wrong before, especially when we needed things in the alley," he said to her as she walked up to him. When she kissed him on the cheek he smiled a little and returned the kiss with a caress of his mandible, very akin to a kiss. "My day was good went out and got the chiller, grabbed some stuff for dinner and helped out at a clinic," he said as he walked over and grabbing the bottle of wine poured her a glass. "This darkness has everyone panicking and with the panicking comes attacks and violence and injured people, so I thought with all the bandaging and first aid I've ever done I could help out," he said as he took a sip of the wine "turns out they could use all the help they could get even though it comes from a giant spider. Though I did meet and fix a little girls broken arm and she thought I was just so cool. Kept trying to see my eyes after they would flash with colour. She was a trooper. So how hungry are you? or would you rather shower first?" With one hand he pressed the temperature control of her apartment and immediately dropped it to the usual temperature Ariel had it at. He could toughen out the cold, after all he was a Canadian. |
