PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

HEIGHT: 6’3
BUILD: Very lean and muscular. He’s thin, almost to a worrisome level.
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Brown, usually short and messy, although he has been known to let it grow out some.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: A large scar just to the left of his navel where a patient stabbed him with a scalpel. Tattoo of a Celtic cross on his side. His back is scarred heavily around his shoulders, and a pair of 14ft long wings that extend from his back.
CLOTHING STYLE: Julian likes to look nice. When he’s teaching, you can usually find him in a suit or a nice dress shirt and tie. Everything is pretty neat and tidy considering that the man is incredibly disorganized in his everyday life. When not teaching or out, he’s considerably more relaxed, generally going with layers of shirts and a jacket. You’ll never find him without converse shoes on, however. Last time he counted, he owned 17 different pair. (What can I say? The man likes his converse.) Julian gets cold easy though, and when the temperature drops its not uncommon to see him in thick coats and lots of scarves. Unless he’s at the school, he does make a point to wear a jacket to help hide the wings. A good portion of his clothes are altered to let his wings out. (He was never so thankful that his mother insisted to teach him to sew)
UNIFORM: Standard uniform, modified for flight. Nothin’ flashy.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Avian Features- Julian’s first and most obvious mutation takes the shape of the 14ft wingspan that comes from his shoulders. The wings themselves are shades of dark grey and black, that resemble those of a Sooty Barn owl. His feathers are thick and fluffy, which absorbs sound and lets Julian fly almost silently. The wings pull up nearly flat against his body when he is either in his harness or pulling them close, but when relaxed there’s no way to hide the wings. His metabolism works at an incredibly high rate. While this helps keep him thin enough to fly, it also means that he has to eat constantly in order to keep himself healthy and energetic. Partially because of this and partially because flying is hard work, Julian’s in tip top shape. He has a slightly altered muscular system to support flying, such as a smaller second set of pectoral muscles that lay under his first. He possesses hollow but strong bones, and his cardiovascular system is designed to withstand the pressures of flight along with a third eyelid to keep his vision clear during flight. At most, Julian has hit 220 mph in a dive and can cruise at about 90 mph and 600 feet in altitude for 3 days before he would crash from exhaustion. He can’t carry much more than 90 pounds before it begins to affect his ability for flight substantially. Unlike most people, Julian also possesses 12 vertebrae in his neck, allowing himself to turn his head back around further than a baseline human.

Enhanced Senses- Along with his wings and adaptations for flight, Julian also has enhanced hearing and vision. He has 20/6 vision, and 20/15 when in the dark. His hearing is crystal clear for 500 feet around him. After that however, his hearing drops down to human level. He can hear higher pitched frequencies up to 22hz. (Although let it be said that while he can hear it, it isn’t exactly a pleasant sound to behold.)

WEAKNESS: The greatest weakness Julian has is his enhanced senses. While it can be helpful to see or hear things that are far away, its less helpful when you can’t turn it off. He cannot reduce the sensitivity of his hearing, which is the greater issue, and suffers from sensory overload quite easily from something like too much time downtown without medication. He also is limited by his own physical strength.

He has no superhuman strength, no immunity to knives or bullets or other things that just happen to kill people. While he’s strong for a man, he is exactly that: Strong for a regular guy. It doesn’t help that he’s light, and while his bones are just as strong as the guy down the street’s, they can break and it will take him just as long to heal and get better. Fluffy wings are good for silence, but they’re not nearly as fast as some of the sleeker winged mutants out there, which puts him at a risk for the faster opponents he might encounter. He's also not always the most graceful guy in the world (read as: he's a total goddamn klutz).

Over the years, Julian has become quite dependent on his Oxytocin and goes through severe withdrawals without it.

PERSONALITY

Julian is just a bucket of sunshine, waiting to be splashed upon your sad self. Bright, friendly and a little goofy, Julian is constantly excited about something and he’s more than happy to let you know about it. He loves to strike up conversation and just know people. Its an incredible experience for him to be able to meet different kinds of people from everywhere in the world and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t take advantage of it. Half of the time he’s in his own little world it seems, and tends to get caught up in his thoughts, often blurting out half finished sentences and made up words; a trait that becomes more obvious the more frustrated he becomes. Julian does tend to come off as a little… eccentric. He feels the need to move not only his hands, but just about his entire body when he talks, speaks sarcasm as his third language (the other two being Spanish and English) and often will switch subjects on a whim if he’s not focused entirely.

When with friends and allies, Julian is happy to simply be in welcoming presence. He’s more than happy to listen and be a shoulder to cry on if he needs to be, and is even happier to be the friend you go get drinks with. He’s bouncy, a little mischievous and an awful flirt. Contrary to the aloof nature in which he presents himself, Julian is actually a very deep thinker and occasionally has knowledgeable quips for those who ask. He’s fiercely loyal to those he trusts and would do just about anything for people close enough to him without a second thought.

In a professional situation however, Julian can switch his attitude in a heartbeat. He can be as serious as death when its needed. He can remain calm under pressure and keep his thoughts in order. While he does like to think that he’s good emotional support, after working as a surgeon for so long, he does tend to get apathetic about things like death, and has a sense of “Do what needs done even if you don’t like it”. Julian is more of a follower than a leader, and would honestly prefer to keep the violence to a minimum. It’d be much nicer if the issues could be resolved in a peaceful manner. However, he’s certainly not stupid enough to think that the world works like that. When needed, you better believe that Julian’ll put up a damn good fight. While it takes a lot to really anger him, once you do, Julian has a very dark side to him. He tends to hold grudges longer than he should, and when he’s angry, he can be very cold and calculated, a sharp polarity to his normally happy demeanor.

But bother to all that! That certainly isn’t who Julian wants to be seen as anyways.

HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE

As a boy, Julian McClellan grew up outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. His father had left his mother when he was only 2, and he, his sister and his mother and been together ever since. The McClellans’ owned a farm and operated a family dairy. The life they lived was pretty simple. Run the farm, send the kids to school, and so on. When Julian turned 8, his mother married a London man by the name of Thomas Jones. It wasn’t exactly easy, but they got by. Until Julian turned 10. About then, he began to lose weight very quickly and developed rashes on his back often. However, money was often fairly tight, and the doctor’s visits were unhelpful and uncommon.

As he got older, things got worse. He had painful swelling on his shoulders and Julian soon took to clawing and trying to take sharp objects to himself. All of it came to a sharp climax when Annabeth found her oldest child in the bathtub, bloody and crying with a odd feather here or there. No one in the family had any idea what was happening to Julian, and fear of other people’s reactions prompted them to keep quiet about the entire situation, instead of doing something rational, like going to a hospital. After all, Tom and Annabeth didn’t want to have someone come take Julian away to live as a lab rat. So, they bandaged the boy up as best as they could and pulled him from school to keep him away from people who might discover his “little secret”. After that, things were comparatively easy. He didn’t have a dark story or traumatic experience after that. He liked science and theatre, listened to his music too loud and lived as a relatively normal homeschooled kid.

Julian had ripped up his back enough to let the wings growing from his shoulder blades see the light of day, and while at 12, they weren’t terribly impressive and easy to hide, as he got older they grew and changed with him. He showed signs of his other mutations shortly after, and was constantly sore for periods of time as his cardiovascular and bone structures were altered . His Sensory overload started to get worse as his vision and hearing sharpened, and Julian started to take as much pain medication as he could without overdosing himself. It wasn’t until he turned 15 that Julian had the idea that he might be able to fly. By then he had grown flight feathers and while there was work to be done still, he was fairly confident in his abilities. He, by that time, needed a harness to keep his wings flat against his back, and even at that Julian needed to dress in layers to keep himself concealed.

Over the next year and a half he managed to break multiple bones from jumping off structures of varying heights.

But hey, no pain no gain. It took 18 months, but eventually Julian McClellan learned how to fly, and fly he did. Any place he figured he wouldn’t be spotted, Julian took to the sky. It just felt so right to fly, and it was his favorite thing to do in his spare time. However, he did have to constantly remind himself that if he was found out then there was no telling what someone might try to do to him. More people had been found to be like him… and the world wasn’t reacting kindly.

After getting his A levels, Julian realized he needed to get out of Scotland. He had been offered to study abroad at John Hopkins University in Baltimore for his medical study and he couldn’t turn that down. So at 19, Julian McClellan said goodbye to his family and left for school in America. It was a difficult time in his life. He had to keep a constant eye out that nobody would find out about his mutation. The city only made his headaches worse and he soon found himself with a script for Oxytocin to soothe his pain, and hasn’t stopped taking the medication since. He worked hard in school and made money by working as a paramedic. However he did manage to go by unscathed in college, and 10 years later Julian found himself in New York with a job as a neurosurgeon. He was successful. Things were looking up. He spent 5 years working himself into a comfortable life, going through a few relationships here and there, and keeping himself uncover. He made good money and sent some back home to make sure his family was well taken care of. Things were going good for Dr. McClellan, there was no doubt about it

And then the goddamn world ended.

DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009)

Depending on how you look at it, Julian dodged a bullet. It so happened that his mother’s birthday was April 5th, and Julian had made the trip back to Scotland to see her and spend time with his family. Two days later, everything went to goddamn hell. Julian had been woken up by his phone buzzing uncontrollably, much to his irritation on April 7th. Charlie, friend in Paris, was texting him in a panicked flurry, saying a plane had been crashed and something about zombies. Julian had dismissed it until he turned the news on to hear about the mass destruction happening all over the world. He texted Charlie back but never heard from him again. He still hopes that he was killed before he could become one of the monstrous creations.

Regardless of his companion’s condition, Julian knew one this was painstakingly clear: He had to get his family away from the city. London seemed to be the next target, and while it was 6 hours away, whatever was happening was happening quickly. So, trying to waste as little time as possible, Julian got his mother, sister and step-father into a car and sent them off towards Loch Ness, where they owned a small property, promising to fly there and meet them at the house.

The next few days were possibly the most terrifying Julian had ever had. Severe storms and snow ravaged the country while earthquakes and tsunamis destroyed costal areas. There was no communication or link to the outside world for the McClellan family until the entire event was over, and they found the world in a very different state then how it had been a week earlier.

POST-APOCALYPSE

After making sure that his family was going to be okay without him, Julian returned to New York. It was devastated from the attacks and he found that his skills were sorely needed as a doctor. His emergency response experience paid off in the time that followed as the country pulled itself back together. He found himself moonlighting in Mutant Town clinics more and more often. People were shocked with fresh memories of the horrors that had occurred, and never before had it become more important for Julian to keep himself under wraps.

PURIFIERS

However, sadly, Julian’s luck wasn’t going to last forever. Anti-mutant ideology seeped its way into the minds of people and so when Julian’s mutant physiology was accidently revealed via hot coffee to the body, causing his 15 year old harness to finally snap under the pressure of expanding wings, Julian found himself without a job. Having nowhere else to go, Julian went to Mutant Town and started to work part-time at an in-patient clinic. As purifier attacks began, he found himself with more injured people and heard about a school called Xavier’s from Havok, the head honcho in X-factor when he was hunting for a more stable occupation. The school was a place where mutants were given a good place to stay. It didn’t take much for Julian to pack up and head towards the school, hoping for a better place than the apartment he currently inhabited, and possibly a better job.

He wasn’t there long before the unthinkable happened: The school was completely obliterated. As part of the staff, Julian was part of the mad flurry to try and get students out and away from the destruction and help as many people as possible. It only got worse with the purifier attacks and he found himself neck deep in the violence. It certainly wasn’t the first time the good doctor had ever seen death on a large scale, but it had never been like that. Hate and fear leading to so many dead people. When Scott evacuated the school to the Savage Lands, Julian went to try and help keep everything together in Utopia.

SKRULLS
The Savage lands… took some time getting used to, honestly. If not for the Dinosaurs and… interesting landscape, then for the absolute cut off from the whole world. It was one thing to be unplugged, but it was a whole other to be completely and totally confined to the people around you. It was a hard change for Julian, and it took him a little longer to adjust then he’d like to admit. As part of the group that went to Utopia, Julian found himself smack dab in the middle of The Brood. He, like the rest of the group was infected with the Brood, and when the battle came, he fought for his buggy survival like all the rest. And dear God was he glad when they stopped being giant insects. He didn’t like goddamn bugs in the first place, but to be one? Although, it didn’t seem like anyone up top had any better of a time, what with giant killer robots and happy beams…

CURRENT HISTORY

The months that followed kind of felt like We Didn’t Start the Fire. Things just kept coming and he had no choice but to try and roll with the punches.

It started when things were shaken up once more as Scott died.

Being part of the medical team, Julian saw what had happened to him. It was a personal pain, although nothing compared to what he imagined the people close to Scott had felt, but it hurt nonetheless. He went to his funeral like the rest of the staff and students, and then went to go drink until he felt better.

And then Scott wasn’t dead.

No, it seemed not. In fact, Scott seemed very much alive, very much evil and very much intent on kidnapping other people and blowing shit up. It wasn’t a pretty fight against Scott and his Dark X-Men but in the end, the good guys pulled a victory out of it, and the mutants returned to what passed for normal in their lives.

SAMPLE RP POST:

Julian didn’t sleep well.

He never really had, he supposed. Or at least, he couldn’t remember ever sleeping well. He didn’t want to leave the warmth of his bed as he stared out into the darkness of his room. Slowly he sat up; laying on his back for too long tended to squish his wings which was less than comfortable. He sighed softly and stretched out, waiting until the tips of his wings trembled slightly to pull them back against his body. Facing his innate desire to not leave the warmth of his bed, he pulled back the covers and swung his legs to meet the floor.

He shivered and rubbed his arms; it was colder than he had thought. Getting up he walked to the thermostat on the wall. Well no wonder it was so damn cold. The heater hadn’t turned on. He hit a few buttons and after a moment the sound of warm air seeping through the air vent filled the room. The mutant glanced at his clock for a moment. It was 5:54. He wasn’t due to work for another two hours, but he doubted that he was going to get back to sleep.

So he might as well use his time well.

Walking into the bathroom, Julian opened the little orange bottle of Oxy he had sitting on the sink and shook out one of the little white pills. He tipped his head back and took it dry before heading over to his closet to get some actual pants on. He wasn’t going to go flying in TMNT pajama pants, no matter how comfy they may or may not be. Grabbing a pair of jeans, Julian walked to the small porch that was accessible from his bedroom. It was chilly and he could see tiny wisps of his breath. But that wasn’t really going to matter here soon. The sun was rising and with it was warmth. The Scotsman looked up at the roof just above his apartment and then climbed onto the fence surrounding the deck. He looked down at the street 8 stories below him. He wasn’t afraid of falling and while he was in mutant town he didn’t have to really worry about somebody seeing him. And so, without another thought, Julian jumped off the fence and went for his morning flight.

Another riot.

It felt like that peaceful morning had been years ago, not 6 hours ago. Julian was busy stitching up a girl no older than 16. She had a nasty laceration across her arm and the clinic he worked at just happened to be closest, so that’s where she had gone. He had cleaned up the girl’s light green skin and was just about done stitching her up. It was sad to see how many people were getting hurt by all of his bigotry. It made his feathers ruffle.

“Don’ play with these stitches, alright? Jus’ leave ’em completely alone. Tha’ was a nasty cut an’ I don’t want to get it infected.” The girl nodded up at him and fixed her auburn hair. Julian grabbed a pen and his pad and started to write her a prescription to a mild painkiller. After the local anesthetic wore off, stitches could hurt like a bitch. It was a bloody shame that such a young woman would be caught up in this kind of violence. It almost prompted him to move back to Scotland. He could find a good job there and not have to worry about all of this Purifier madness….

“In about 12 days, yah’ll need to ‘ave them removed. You can come back here, or if yah’ don’t live here, schedule something with yer’ doctor.” He moved to hand her the script and smiled. “Give tha’ to the front office.” The girl nodded and took it from him.

“The school has a doctor that can take these out.” Julian stopped and frowned a little, tipping his head. His curiosity was hard to kill.

“Yer’ school? Where is that?” He glanced at the computer screen that had all of her information pulled up. Her residency wasn’t on that particular screen. She could of lived in Nebraska for all he knew.

“I go to Xavier’s Institute.”

Don't worry, you've not done a bad job ;)

I just have a little feedback, but it isn't anything scary. Mostly this is a good app and you have thought about the powers well. There are a few stray deets here and there and I will ask one thing right out, so please don't take offense - please don't make Julian too weighted down with Dr Who references. A couple are fine, but anymore and it'll get a little cheesy.

As for edits, you're almost on track for every single section of the history (although as a Brit I'm going to say you don't get high school diplomas over here lol).

1. Apocalypse is fine, but tornadoes aren't really a regular UK phenomenon. It would have been more like severe storms, maybe some bad snow up in Scotland.

2. If you could add just a little more to the Skrull section about how he found living in the Savage Land, maybe a line or two is all, as they were there for a long time.

3. Current history - this is the pain as we've not been able to add it to the history yet, but if you can add something about the Illuminati plot, especially the apparent Death of Cyclops and the Dark X-men (who were Siryn, Nightcrawler, Surge, Northstar, Druid from SHIELD and Mimic). You can find details in the weekly updates and around the site.

If you get stuck, you can ask for help and we'll do what we can for you. Just post in here when you're all done.

Is the applicant still interested? Please respond or get in touch with staff by NOVEMBER 14TH or this will have to be moved to denied for inactivity. Thanks.

The player has come back after some RL stuff and is going to finish off his edits as soon as he can.

I believe I've addressed all issues that I was asked to.

In regards to Dr. Who, as I explained to Lauren, I've never actually seen Tennant in the role. Any similarities are either coincidental or done specifically in reference to the play-by and not the character.

Thanks for making the necessary changes to this and for coming back as well after RL has been a pain. You understand all the important facts and it is always good to see an OC for the school who will be an incredibly practical and useful addition.

Another mod might need more but I'm happy.
