Thank God for Evvy. She was certainly much calmer than he was, much more clear headed. And more powerful, judging by the fact that she just casually swatted a raptor with a tree. He winced sympathetically as the dinosaurs digital life came to an end and made a mental note to not annoy her around large plants. At least she was trying to clean up the mess and take charge of this little situation they'd found themselves in. If he'd kept up his own orders, they'd have all been in deep. Like he thought, he really wasn't cut out to be a leader.

A few moments later, Micah came crashing through the trees as only he could, covered in blood that Aaron knew couldn't possibly be his. The sight did still leave him a little queasy, however. At least he was okay, more or less. That was something. Didn't really have time to worry about that, though. They were off and running before he could really take stock of what was happening.

The sun was going down, which couldn't possibly be a good thing. At least he could do something about that. Gathering a good deal of light into his body, Aaron began projecting it out as a dome around himself and the others, giving them a bit more illumination as they moved. Not a trick he could keep up for too long, but it would help for the time being. Once he was unable to continue, though...well, he didn't really want to think about it.

"Think we're close?" he asked no one in particular, hoping that someone else had some insight into just how close to their destination they were. Somewhere along the way he'd lost track, and now he was wishing that he hadn't. Yeah, he really wasn't a leader.

Charm's shouts started up again. It took her a moment to understand what he was saying but a modicum of relief flashed across her face as he crashed through the underbrush. They were all together again. The metallic mutant's flailing had chased off the surviving raptors and things were as good as they could be when the denizens of a prehistoric jungle had their scent.

"Well, at least none of us are," was all she said, when Elle exclaimed about the blood. If any of the raptors had gotten close enough for blood to splatter... well it wouldn't have been the dinosaur's blood. Evvy took stock of their team, making sure everyone was okay before they took off running again.

"It wasn't that far, I think," Briar told Aaron. She wasn't entirely sure, but from what she saw, she thought they could make it before the sun set. Maybe. It was difficult to tell how far off that was with Aaron lighting up the jungle around them - it was brighter around them than it had been when they'd first landed. She hoped the light didn't attract anything. It kept them from tripping up on what the plants left in their wake.

There was another earth shaking roar. It sounded closer this time around. After their skirmish with the raptors, she didn't want to deal with anything bigger. She wasn't sure she could keep everyone unharmed if it came to a T-Rex or something like that. Maybe with all of them together now- no. They had to make it to the base.

As far as Micah could discern, his teammates were relieved to see that he was in one piece, although Elle made a noise of disgust after loudly noting that he was covered in blood.

"Well it is nae mine," he started to explain, but thinking better of it and wrenching his mouth shut; a noticeable stutter went up his spine as he recalled the image of the pterosaur's head snapping off in his hand. "Yer know what let's just not talk about it, awrite?"

A thundering roar in the distance gave him exactly the out he was looking for, exchanging an anxious look with the rest of the group.

"....let's get the hell out o' here, mates."

The small group picked up a healthy but blind run in the rapidly thickening night. Aaron was kind enough to emit a glow from his own body, which was comforting, but it would not change the fact that five lost students with limited training and no night vision to speak of were easy pickings in the dark. With the knowledge that some harm could feasibly come to them, Micah began to feel nervous, not just for himself but the rest of the group, as they were only made of skin and bone.

It isnae real. Micah reminded himself, trying not to ponder how quickly Miss Rahne could shut the simulation down before anyone could seriously be hurt.

"Should have brought m'mobile," the Scottish teen muttered aloud with exasperation as their desperate sprint dissolved into a jog. "Siri would get us out in a... in a.." Micah trailed, his usual jaunty step slowing to a shuffle before he suddenly lunged and grabbed Aaron by the arm and inspected the radar device that Aaron had attached to his wrist.

"Oi! Hold up a min, pal.. this thing has a speaker, aye? Don't that mean it's like a radio or somethin'?"

Momentarily disregarding his roommate's desire for personal space and the confirmed fact that there were large reptilian creatures with sharp pointy teeth lurking in their vicinity, Micah started poking the sparse buttons on the device, speaking to it as though he would a digital personal assistant.

"Hiyeah--Mission Control, Homebase, whathaveye--we're lost in the jungle with some dinosaurs, an' it's nae Littlefoot an' Petri, ken?"

The team was doing... okay. But well, this was a first time attempt, so... all things considered, they could have been doing much worse. At least at this point they stood a chance of making it to the end of the course.

Rahne watched, elbows propped up on the lower rim of the control panel. The skirmish with the velociraptors had amused the children - well, most of them. For them, this was entertainment for the most part. But Rahne wanted them to see what this was, to witness what they might someday be doing. She wouldn't have been involved with this session otherwise. Those kids down there in the session, they weren't her students.

It seemed like they got their bearings, though, as they took off with relatively high speed towards the temple. This was it, then. The final act of the mission. And the program seemed all the ready to end in big, splashy fashion.

"Oh, dear," she murmured to herself, seeing what was coming up next. Part of her wanted to abort that, to make sure they didn't go through that, but... no. That wasn't going to do them any good. They weren't done yet.

Her eyes darted over to the direct speaker as it crackled to life dramatically, mimicking actual distance and interference as if they were actually out there.

"Och, there ye are," she answered, playing up the role a bit. "We've been lookin' f'r you lot for a while now. Ye're on a straight shot now. We'll open the shields f'r seventy seconds, so pour it on fast."

What they would hear was a bit garbled, with static muffling some of the sounds. But the message would get through.

"Go! NOW! Jus' got a big reading immediately south of yuir position!" she called out, and at that moment, the final obstacle made itself known with a loud, booming roar.

The tyrant king had made his presence known. A good fifty yards behind them, tyrannosaurus rex was bearing down on them. And he was gaining.

The stench of dino-blood began to wear off as Elle hurried through the forest with the others, Payton right behind her. Or, maybe it just didn't stand out as much while running through a hostile jungle full of plenty of other odd smells. She didn't mind the sweaty trip or exotic scents so much, compared to the alternative of fighting actual dinosaurs.

Now that they were finally moving, their little group was actually making good time. That didn't stop the sun from setting, although Aaron soon solved that problem. "I guess this is your, uh, time to shine." She giggled at her own joke, resisting the urge to look behind her. Elle tried to focus on the base up ahead instead. "You're, like, our own little human torch!" She tried to focus on the base, and bad jokes, apparently. At least she was trying to enjoy herself, now that they were in the home stretch.

She glanced over as Micah piped up with more jests. Elle didn't think they'd have been able to get service here anyway. The Danger Room probably wouldn't let them call out, and this fantasy jungle didn't seem to have any technology outside of their destination. She realized she was probably overthinking this, as she watched Micah grabbing at Aaron. "I don't think that thing works like...that...nevermind."

Elle slowed down with the others as they listened to the message. "Right, we gotta hurry, we get it." The point was further hammered in as the rex suddenly burst into view behind them. She let out a yelp of alarm as she finally looked back, rapidly accelerating towards their goal as she caught sight of the beast. It was a race, then, and the loser got eaten apparently. While her powers didn't help here at all, she was athletic enough to be no slouch in this department. She was confident she'd outrun the one made of heavy metal, at least. He'd proven he was durable enough, so she didn't think Micah would be in any trouble at the back of the pack.

There was conversation going on, mostly about how far they were from their intended destination. Aaron had more or less tuned that out, though, given that he was more focused on keeping his light dome up than on participating in the chatting. The dwindling illumination the sun provided meant he had to work harder than usual to keep photons he'd gathered in circulation, and it wouldn't be too much longer until it became too much of a strain to maintain and he'd have to drop it. With any luck, that wouldn't be an issue for too much longer.

Elle's little quip earned her an eye roll. "Yeah, yeah..." he muttered quietly, wondering to himself if this was all his powers would ever be good for. Sure he'd burned that tree that one time, but that was sort of a fluke. He'd been so angry that day that he wasn't really thinking about what he was doing and accidentally fired off a surprisingly focused beam. It had only happened once, though, and he wasn't sure he could ever do it again.

Any other thoughts on the matter were swept aside as an ungodly sound came out of nowhere. The young man came to a halt, trying not to think about what kind of monstrosity had been cooked up for them now. About that time, Micah had hopped into his little bubble, examining the tracking device he'd found earlier, saying something about a speaker. "Wh--uh...I have no idea?" It seemed that the shiny mutant was right, though, because as he talked into the machine, a voice came back, confirming that they were on the right track, but also that something big was coming up behind them.

And there it was, big as life and twice as ugly. "Oh you gotta be friggin' kidding me!" he cried, staring dumbfounded as the tyrannosaurus bore down on them like something out of a Spielbergian nightmare. There was no other option but to run. Pulling himself free of Micah's grasp, he spun on his heel and pumped his legs like there was no tomorrow. Of course, on some level he knew that none of this was real, but it was an extremely convincing simulation.

He thought to gather up some light and try to blind the beast, but found it difficult to muster anything substantial enough to disable something that large. There wasn't much he could do now, with the fuel for his ability having faded to almost nothing. Evvy could likely do something with the trees, or maybe Micah could overpower it, but he really thought that the best shot was getting to the base. Seventy seconds wasn't a lot of time, but it had to be enough.

Evvy tried not to pay any attention to the little comments going back and forth. It was irritating, but unless they affected the performance of the group she'd let them be. Keeping everyone from tripping on the tangled plant growth and keeping going was more than enough for the young woman. Any lectures about taking survival training seriously could happen after the session was over, if at all.

The bright light, was that a good idea? "That might draw more attention than-" she began, before something Micah was saying, something inconsequencial she'd thought, ended in him grabbing Aaron. The two ground to a halt while the shining young man grabbed at the device he'd had. He said something about speakers and began poking at the buttons.

Could it really be that simple?

"Can we do that and keep on moving?" she whispered. The light was fading fast, and she couldn't see beyond the area Aaron lit up. It left the rest of the jungle a thick mass of darkness.

Rahne replied though, and said they'd have the shields open for seventy seconds. That, and that there was something big coming from the south. Her statement was confirmed with an enormous roar. They ran as fast and hard as they could, and Evvy left the trees and undergrowth tangled as possible behind them. Not a great deterrant to something as massive as a T-Rex, but maybe it would slow it down a little.

The run was taking a nightmarish quality, hearing the dinosaur crashing behind them, feeling the earth shake with each step. Then the base was visible ahead of them. All they needed was a final burst of speed. Evvy reached for the reserves of her energy and forced herself to go even faster. Just a little further.

Rahne need not even to explain how much trouble they were in for.

"Oh fer feck's sake!" Micah exclaimed as he saw exactly what had been stalking them in the night--a twenty foot high prehistoric carnivore that would not exactly be mindful if one of its bite sized snacks were more crunchy than the rest.

True terror gripped the Scotsman's face as he turned his teammates, their expressions revealing that they were just as frightened as he.

"Yer heard the lady--RUN, MATES!"

Terrified, the group fled, gaps between individuals beginning to form as aptitude for track began to show. And although arguably the physically strongest among them, but unfortunately the heaviest and slowest, Micah brought up the back of the group as they ran, seemingly unable to gain much ground no matter how hard he pushed himself to go faster.

With no amount of elegance or grace, the group of students staggered towards the base at varying speeds. But one of the great king of lizard's steps equated to a dozen each of their own, and his hunger for flesh compelled him.

All of his self-reassurance about the Danger Room only being a simulation now undone, Micah found himself internally looking to a higher power.

Hi, God, it's me, Micah. I know yer got better plans fer me than sparkly dino nuggets, right? Double quid in the plate this Sunday if I live, on me honor. Amen?

Out loud Micah shrieked as the tyrannosaurus rex bellowed behind him, close enough for the Scotsman to become swallowed in his shadow. His teammates were ahead of him, already safe and sound. He pumped his legs harder and threw himself over the shield threshold, slamming into the ground and skidding into the dirt just as the base's protection kicked back on, effectively putting a barrier between the students and their prehistoric predator.

Panting in a heap on the earth, Micah gazed up at the interior of the simulated forcefield, holding one triumphant metal fist over him.

"Hah.. a tenner.. a tenner saved m'arse. I shoulda though o'tha' ages ago.."

Rahne watched them run, to the cheers of students at her side, finger on the button. She didn't want to cut them off if she didn't have to, but she wasn't going to let them get seriously injured, either. This was an exercise, not a punishment, and...

There. They made it. A sigh of relief rushed out of her lungs as the exercise came to a close. The jungle around them faded away, the hologram projectors shutting down, the terrain re-shifting back into the flats of the Danger Room. The mission was over, and the team had succeeded. There were some signs of the battle left behind, namely robotic framework scraps left behind from the velociraptors.

By the time it had finally come to a close, Rahne Russell was there, having gone down the elevator and into the main chamber of the Danger Room itself.

"Well. How was that, aye? A wee bit rough, I know, but that's what the Danger Room is. Earns its name, don't it?"

She stepped forward, bare feet slapping against the hard floor with each step. She rarely wore her X-Uniform on campus, but in Danger Room exercises, she made it a point to wear hers even if she wasn't in the exercise itself.

"This was a tough one, aye, but to be honest, to be entirely honest, there's no such thing as an easy Danger Room exercise. So I commend ye f'r makin' it to the end. Ye did well."

Rahne folded her arms behind her back, and looked over the team.
"Briar, Beacon, ye did well. Showed initiative, took proactive steps to keep yuir team safe and together. Ye did nae always make the right decisions, but that's rather impossible t' always make the right choice, so ye did well."

She moved her gaze over to Micah, and nodded her head.
"Ye're lucky ye're as tough as you are, Charm. Ye weren't takin' this seriously at first, were ye? In here, aye, this is a relatively safe environment, but only so. Ye let yuir guard down, an' ye can be hurt. Even you."

Finally, Elle and Payton.
"Frigid, ye had a relatively decent idea in the ice dome, but stationary shielding is nae a good idea when the goal is to get to a specific point by a specific time. That tactic slowed things down, when ye rather should have proactively worked to dispatch the attackers so ye could have moved on. And Reverselle," Rahne paused, thinking over her words carefully.

"I did nae see a significant contribution to the team effort from you. Instead ye relied on all of yuir teammates doin' everything for ye, and in a team situation, ye cannae do that. Every team member must pull their weight. When danger rears its ugly head, ye've got to be willin' to contribute. Stayin' back an' lettin' others deal with danger increases the odds of everyone gettin' hurt."

She stepped back then, to look the five of them over.
"Overall, ye made it to the end, an' that's no small accomplishment. I'd like t' congratulate ye on completing yuir first Danger Room mission. Now come on up t' the control booth, we've got some nice cold drinks and damp towelettes for ye."

Elle continued running well after they'd passed the area where the shield would appear, likely dashing past the others if they slowed or stopped. She finally skidded to a halt as the world dissolved around them, returning the group to reality. "I've never been happier to see this dumb room." She wasn't too winded, but she was glad they had a moment to catch their breath after that mad chase.

Her hair and eyes returned to their natural shades as the threat passed. She looked over as Rahne spoke, wondering where she had appeared from. Elle assumed she'd just been too distracted to notice her arrival. "Who came up with the idea of a dinosaur jungle in the middle of the Antarctic, anyway?" She'd managed to stop panting by the time the conversation had begun. "I guess it could have been worse...I could have stinky robo-dino blood all over me."

Glancing over at Charm, she tried to quiet down and stay serious, only to break into giggles as the teacher addressed Aaron. "Your codename is Bacon? How'd you get stuck with that?" Of course, she immediately blushed as her own was blurted out, turning a darker shade as Rahne chastised her.

"H-hey! I can't do much unless something is, like, flying right at me." She frowned. "And I couldn't have done anything to the really big one unless it was already close enough to eat me." The others had taken the initiative with their more proactive powers, as Rahne had said. Elle had only really used hers in a reactionary manner, so far. The rest of the team had been quick to attack the threats, so maybe she really had been a bit too willing to stay back and let them handle everything.

He almost collapsed. Almost. It was a testament to how hard he'd been working that his lungs didn't give out on him once all the running was over and done with. Didn't stop him from breathing hard, though. A glass of water never sounded so good.

Glancing around, it looked like everyone had made it through in one piece. Not that they were ever in any actual danger, in spite of the name of the room. Didn't mean that what they'd gone through didn't feel absolutely real, though. Well, not so much to him. Being around all that light for so long made him all tingly, and once Mrs. Russell shut the simulation down, he felt that tingling going away, sort of like a limb waking up. Not a pleasant feeling, but it was passing.

And speaking of Mrs. Russell, she'd appeared before them, handing out congratulations and comments. He had to admit, he felt a little embarrassed being put in the spotlight like she had done. And that name, Beacon...that was something new. Not unwelcome, just...new.

Well, at least he thought it wasn't unwelcome, until Elle decided to make a joke about it. "Wh--Bacon? No, it's...Beacon?" The moniker was still unfamiliar to him. Maybe he'd get used to it, maybe he wouldn't. Who knew?

Releasing all the tension he'd been carrying for most of the simulation, Aaron stretched his arms up over his head, exhaling deeply. "Uh...guess I'll head on up to the control room, then," he said, looking forward to getting his hands on a drink or five. It certainly had been a long day.

The force field went up and Evelyn continued running several steps before turning to face the enemy. The force field held, of course, as it was only an exercise, and the point was to get to safety not to deal with what would happen if their defenses were breached. She was breathing heavily, and her limbs felt like lead, but her heart was still racing like crazy. She didn't quite get what Micah was saying. Though that wasn't out of the ordinary, she thought maybe this time he was just babbling.

"Its a real place, and its a situation members of the active teams might actually have to deal with," was all she said to Elle's complaint of the session setting. She was still catching her breath and she didn't feel like having a drawn out discussion on why they had the sessions they had or the choices of experienced X-Men.

The simulation faded and Rahne joined them to give them a run down on how they did. She smiled at the general assessment. She thought it was fair all around. There was a few things she could have added, but she was still just a student and she didn't think the others would appreciate her opinion on their performance, good or bad. After all she had some practice in here before, even if it was years ago, and this was most of their first time if not their first. She had an advantage there.

'Bacon?' she mouthed to Micah at Elle's comment, eyebrows raised and Aaron's confused denial. It was too much after all the stresses of the session- the ridiculousness of it threatened to set off giggles. She pressed her mouth shut tight trying not to because she was sure once they started they wouldn't stop for a while and she was pretty sure that would embarrass the hell out of Aaron.

By the time she got herself under control they had made it to the control room. It was the drink that finally helped her get her composure back. "Any one else want to see some instant replays?"
