PLAYER INFORMATION NAME: Brody CONTACT: brody.allen1 (Skype) brodyboy828@gmail.com (AIM/ E-Mail) HOW YOU FOUND US: Google OTHER CHARACTERS ON THE SITE N/A RULES CODE: Blackbird CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE: Marvel.com, Comicvine.com, Self-Knowledge CHARACTER INFORMATION Minka Kelly BASIC INFORMATION CANON OR ORIGINAL: Canon AFFILIATION: Student FULL NAME: Clarice Ferguson CODENAME: Blink NICKNAMES: Clare CURRENT AGE: 19 DATE OF BIRTH: August 28, 1994 MARITAL STATUS: Single SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual BASE OF OPERATIONS: Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters TIME AT INSTITUTE: 4 Years REGISTERED WITH SHIELD? Not Registered HOMETOWN: Island of Cartusia/Miami, Florida KNOWN RELATIVES: Jim Ferguson | Father - Deceased Stacy Ferguson | Mother - Deceased Nate Ferguson | Brother - Deceased PHYSICAL APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 5’5” BUILD: Toned, weighing in at 125 lbs. (57 kg) EYES: Lime Green, No Visible Pupil HAIR: Magenta DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Blink was born with many distinguishing markings. She had light pink skin and magenta hair. Her pupiless lime green eyes and the pointed ears were also a shock. Clarice was also born with a few facial markings, seeming to appear as tattoos. She has two above her right eye, a diamond on her forehead, and a marking below and above her left eye. CLOTHING STYLE: Clarice is not a fashion model in any sense. Due to her being hidden away from the world up until her teenage years, she isn't familiar with the world of fashion. With the help of her friends at the Institute, her closet has been introduced to the modern world. She can now be seen wearing anything from a revealing top to your everyday dress. If you opened the doors to her closet, you would be shocked by the amounts of green you would see. Clarice tends to favor the color green, possibly because of her beautiful eyes or it being her favorite color. But she does not restrict herself to this color. In fact, she loves wearing very bright and vibrant colors. UNIFORM: Blink wears a no-sleeved, open-sided, forest green dress. The outfit is made out of a form of leather. A red strip of leather wraps around the top of the dress, blue circular stones positioned on it. A matching belt hangs around her waist. Clarice also wears green leather boots. A red quiver is attached to the red leather wrappings onto her back. This quiver serves to hold her crystal javelins. POWERS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Blink has the ability to create teleportation portals. These portals are circular, pink, and appear to swirl. Because of these portals, she is able to displace matter in a teleportation rift. The official term is “Bio-Molecular Spatial Displacement.” Through these portals, she can teleport objects or people across large distances. If entering a portal, there is the chance of falling to pieces in the rift, but Blink is skilled enough to control this. She is also able to teleport several objects or people at the same time. To do this, she enlarges the radius of her portal to fit everything she wants to teleport. Once one has stepped through a portal, it quickly closes. Blink can control the amount of time a portal is left open. An object or person then exits out of a similar portal in a new location. Another way Clarice expresses her way of teleportation is through the crystal javelins she carries in her quiver. By throwing the javelins, Blink is able to teleport matter. Instead of opening a portal, the javelins instantly teleport the object to her desired location. This takes less energy than that of opening a portal. She defensively uses the javelins by quickly teleporting herself or others of her choice out of dire situations or incoming dangers. The javelins also work in an offensive manner by quickly sending threats away from the current location. Blink is able to generate the javelins, but this is a slow process. Therefore, she typically generates the javelins before a mission. A sound similar to ‘blink’ is heard when objects are teleported. This is how she received her codename. Clarice has the potential of global teleportations. This would only be possible at her full extent. At her current age and skill set, her maximum distance would be around five hundred miles. If Blink ever attempted to teleport farther than her potential range, things could go wrong. There is the chance that she could lose focus, the object inside the rift falling to pieces. Or it could hurt Blink herself, physically and mentally. Also, like many teleporters, Clarice has to have a general idea of where she is traveling to. If she didn't, it would take much more concentration and energy to get to her desired location. Currently, Blink is able to teleport four people at a time. Although, she has the potential of taking the entire team to a new location. After doing this, she would need a few minutes to recover before entering into battle. Side affects of using too much energy include nose bleeds, vomiting, and extremely painful headaches. Worst case scenario, Clarice becomes unconscious. Through much training, Clarice has developed many fighting skills. She is very agile and flexible. Also, through training and use, Blink’s aim has become greater than that of the average human. She has learned to only teleport parts of an object, causing much damage. WEAKNESS: Though a mutant, Clarice is as vulnerable as a typical human female. She has slightly above average strength, speed, and stamina from extensive training. Other than this, she has many vulnerabilities. She also has many weaknesses regarding her powers. Although she can travel great distances, she does not have an unlimited amount of energy. After constant portal hopping or teleporting a large group of people a great distance, she loses energy and quite possibly could faint. The crystal javelin creation can be quite slow. If she runs out of javelins in battle, she could become vulnerable. Blink would have to stick to opening portals unless she took the time to generate more javelins. PERSONALITY Clarice was hidden from society for most of her childhood. Due to this, Clarice is very isolated and sticks to herself. She has only shown true emotion to those close to her, such as her mother and father. Her brother always despised her. Because of Blink’s mutation, her brother was not allowed to ever have his friends over. This was after he and his friends had made fun of her several times. He had always been jealous of Blink and the attention she got from their parents. Because of the history, Clarice rarely speaks of her brother. Blink is very calm and quite. This is probably due to the activities she involves herself in. She loves anything artistic and historic. She loves to read and write about her stay at the mansion. When she gets the chance to visit places, she does. She is not the most competitive girl but will play sports with the students or even do things such as playing board games or cards. Clarice can be very trustful, almost too trustful. She is not one to walk up to someone and chat away. But after some time with a person, she will socially give in. Because of her sheltered childhood, Clarice had never known of the views towards mutants. She didn't even know there were others like her. It wasn't until she met the X-Men that her eyes were opened. Blink tends to be very polite. She does not seek out fights. In fact, she despises them. Clarice gladly partakes in trainings and any missions she can. She knows what decisions she will have to make in the future and is willing to do anything. At times, she gets frustrated and rude towards the X-Men when they do not allow her to help. She tries to be as involved as possible and wants to help the team in any way, this including discovery missions and traveling the world. HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Clarice was born on Cartusia, an island in the Bahamas. Unlike many mutants, she was born with part of her mutation already active. Clarice entered this world with light pink skin, pointed ears, facial markings, magenta hair, and lime green eyes with no visible pupil. It was obvious from her birth, that Clarice was a mutant. Her parents loved her anyways, but knew the world wouldn't. Protections were vital in Blink’s childhood, and her parents made sure they were there. At the age of four, Blink and her family moved to Miami, Florida. Clarice was not allowed to go out in public alone. In fact, she stayed indoors a lot of her life. She would watch out the window as her brother would play outside with his friends. Clarice’s parents didn't lock her away though, they loved her and accepted the fact she was a mutant. Instead, they prepared her for her future. Clarice’s mother helped her in regards such as school and simple rules of society. Her father, have taken martial arts classes as a teenager, taught Blink enough to defend herself from those wanting to hurt her. At the age of thirteen, the full of Blink’s mutation came into existence. Blink would be walking around her house, finding these odd crystal spikes…her javelins. It wasn't until a few weeks later that her family discovered the extent of her power, finding Blink on their front lawn lying in blood and unconscious. After gaining consciousness, Clarice explained that she didn't know how she ended up on the front lawn. The last she remembered was crawling into bed. After several more of these incidents, the Ferguson’s discovered what her true ability was…teleportation. As Clarice grew older, she learned enough about her power to control the random teleportations, nothing more. The teleportations were a bit painful and she vowed to never use them again. DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009) On April 4th, the Ferguson’s decided it might be nice to introduce Clarice to the world, considering she was 14 now. They took a family vacation to the coast of New York. It was on April 7th that things went terribly wrong for Clarice. It was at that time that War, one of Apocalypse’s horsemen, took a visit to the east coast of New York. It was here that he did something that would change Clarice's life completely. When War arrived on the scene, he released nanites into the city, also known as the "Seeds of Apocalypse". These nanites were designed to enhance the abilities of the super-powered, and granted abilities to the typical human. Not only this, but it persuaded the mind into becoming a follower of Apocalypse. The nanites themselves were quite unstable. If you were not strong enough to hold the nanites within you, they burned you up from the inside. Clarice, already being gifted, did not suffer harm. On the other hand, her family was soon nothing but small piles of ash. Clarice was not able to mourn her family’s death, as the nanites were now in control of her. Soon, she was on her way to Egypt as one of Apocalypse’s followers. It wasn't until five days later that she was freed. The X-Men and their allies had stopped Apocalypse and everything his horsemen had done. This ended the control he once had over his minions. Shock and devastation all kicked in at once. The X-Men were there to comfort Clarice and guide her. They offered her a place to stay at their glorious institute at seeing the potential the young lady had. Blink accepted their offer, but this could be a challenge for her. One that she was willing to face… POST-APOCALYPSE It took Clarice a while to get acquainted with her new home. She was not used to being around so many people and being in a school. She was very shy and not the brightest of students. She struggled with her powers, fearing the pain they might bring. Clarice did not do well in her classes at first but soon adapted. Not only did she face the issues regarding her new home, she still had her old home to deal with. Now that her family was gone her old house was just sitting empty. The X-Men aided Clarice in selling the home, the money for Clarice. Blink was only to save a few memories of her family. This included a family portrait, photo album, her mother’s wedding ring, her father’s watch, and her brother’s baseball glove. He was a major baseball fan and knew that this would be a good way of remembering him. Anything else in the house was sold. Clarice said goodbye to her old home for the last time. Scott and Jean took Clarice and the other students on a field trip to the Savage Land. Clarice was super excited, this being her first field trip ever. She could not believe the sights she was seeing, anything from giant plants to dinosaurs. The fun ended when Josh Foley went missing. It was soon discovered that the Inhumans had taken him and he needed to be rescued. Jean and Scott sent the students home while the X-Men got to have all the fun… on the moon. Clarice was upset, wanting to go in the mission, but respected the decision that was made. Later on in the year, something extremely odd and scary occurred. Our dimension was merging with an alternate one. One that was going to bring much trouble to us. This worried Clarice but also made her curious. Would she be a mutant in this dimension? Was her family still alive? These questions ran through her head, but the answers would only sadden her. Some in the institute were swapped with their alternate selves. The one most known being Scott Summers, switched with a mischievous criminal self. The switch he endured hit Blink the hardest. She wasn't too close to anyone, but he looked up to Cyclops. Him being gone was difficult for her. Blink was unaware of most of the other switches that occurred. Little did she know, her own friend Pixie was temporarily switched with her counterpart. The team had to put a stop to the madness, and they did. While the X-Men journeyed over into the other dimension, Clarice stayed in their own dimension at the mansion. PURIFIERS One afternoon, Clarice was disturbed as she heard ruckus emitting from the entertainment room. She ran in to see many of the staff and students surrounding the large television. What she saw was something absolutely terrifying. X-Corp has been attacked. Innocent people dead and injured, and one of our own missing. It was devastating indeed. Clarice was in total shock and was clueless as to what to do. She tried to offer as much comfort as possible, which wasn't a whole lot. On September 1st of 2011, something tragic happened. Clarice was sitting in class, when all of a sudden she was blown out of her seat. She was thrown into the back wall of the classroom, hitting her head. She lay knocked out for a moment. Once she regained herself, she sat up to examine her other injuries. She had only gotten a few cuts and scrapes, a rather deep one on her lug. She didn't care though. The only thing Blink was concerned about was getting her class out safely. Her teacher had already started carrying students out. Blink attached herself to one of the students, he being unconscious. She teleported herself and the boy outside, onto the front lawn. It was here that Blink had to stop and take it all in. What once was the glorious mansion, was now just a skeleton of what it used to be. Soon, Purifiers began to attack. Blink may have been young and small, but she could still help. Clarice aided in transporting students to safer places as the others were in a full out war. Clarice would attack a soldier here and there, but due to her injuries and the state she was in, she only fought when it was necessary. Such as one of the soldiers attacking one of the students. The battle was soon over, being many fatalities. The institute was gone. Clarice was told to gather what you can. She went straight to her room, of the few things surviving, her sentimental objects from her family seemed to be in good condition. The X-Men then took refuge in Utopia, it being in the Savage Land. SKRULLS Life in the Savage Land was not too terribly bad for Clarice. Other than your everyday dinosaur encounter or carnivorous plant, everything seemed to be alright. She found the Savage Land to be an interesting place. It had such history to it, things many people would never even dream of seeing. It was this sort of adventure that Blink loved. Clarice had heard rumors of alien attacks on the surface land. It was all confirmed when the X-Men discovered an imposter was with us, one of the aliens. He was just a mere child. He confirmed that he was of the Skrull, the alien race causing the attacks. Clarice aided in watching over the boy. On May 20th, the X-Men were visited, but not by who they expected. It was Marrow, an infected Marrow. She called herself the “Brood Queen”. She attacked Utopia and infected all of the X-Men. They soon would be of her Brood army. But they had a plan. Through Jean, Rachel, and Danger, the X-Men were able to protect their minds from the Brood Queen’s Hive Mind by creating their own. This temporarily stopped the infection from getting worse. The Skrull had turned into Brood monstrosities. A cure was desperately needed. By testing the blood of the unharmed, Mr. McCoy was able to produce a cure. The cure was distributed and all was back to normal. CURRENT HISTORY February 1st was a marvelous day for many, the day the Institute officially re-opened. Clarice enjoyed Utopia, but it was nothing like the surface world. She was happy to see the wondrous institute rebuilt, even better than the last. But soon, strange things began to happen. Rumors spread of Tony Stark committing villainous crimes, a student went missing, two leading staff members killed. It was all so much. Namor was also a large threat to the team. What affected her most was Scott Summers being gone. The man who helped her with her problems, the man who aided in watching after her when she first arrived. This time...he was really gone. Or as far as Blink knew, that is. Little did she know that he was one of the Dark X-Men. So much was going on at once, Clarice did not know what to do. She used her pent up emotion and sorrow in her trainings, getting in overtime. She still has much to learn, but compared from where she started, she has improved greatly. SAMPLE RP POST: There Clarice stood, examining herself in the mirror. It is her second week at the institute, not that much of an enjoyable one at that. The death of her family was weighing heavily down upon her. Not only this, but fitting in was seeming to be a bit hard for Clarice. It wasn't the fact that she was a mutant. It was just being around people in general. This is what made her especially worried this morning. Not only was she going to be around people, she would be using her powers in front of them. As she stood in front of the mirror, she examined the training outfit that was given to her. Clarice was impressed. Just the fact that she, a new student, was given something so nice and well made to just train in! The gray and yellow coloring were a bit dark for her, but she didn't mind. She put her hair into a ponytail as best as she could, not truly knowing how to. She had only seen it done, therefore it looked a bit sloppy. Blink walked to over to the entry door to her room. She stopped, taking a deep breath. "Alright, teleportation with Mr. Wagner..." she mumbled to herself. She twisted the knob of the sleek wooden door, pulling back slowly. She stepped into the massive hall, shutting the door behind her, making a 'click' as she did. She walked through several hallways, finally locating the staircase to the first floor. At the bottom of the staircase was the rest of Clarice's class, waiting on the elevator. She felt as if every pair of eyes was watching her as she walked down the stairs. Blink already didn't like where this was going. The elevator arrived and the students piled in. One awkward elevator ride later, the students were in the extraordinary sub-basement. Clarice studied her surroundings, in awe. Clarice followed the students as they were walking into the Danger Room. She assumed they knew where they were going. Blink stepped in last, the automatic door sealing behind her. The tech-filled room was magnificent. Blink paced around it, a clanking noise being produced with each step. Meanwhile, a course was being prepared for the young students. Blink jumped back, as the floor in front of her quickly rose up from the ground. A robotic voice came over the intercom, explaining the premise of the course. Students were to teleport from one pillar in the room to the other. If anyone tried to run the course, they would be dealing with hardships. Clarice's nerves all hit at once. She walked up onto the starting pillar where the other students were. They didn't appear to be near as nervous as she was! One by one, the students made their way across the course, unharmed. Blink was the last to go. The butterflies in her stomach made her feel as if she was going to throw up. She took in what was in front of her, a long stretch to the other end of the room where the other students were. Clarice stepped up to the edge of the platform. She clenched her fists and eyes close, trying to concentrate as hard as possible. A 'blink' was heard. Clarice had moved from one location to the other. She opened here eyes... and was not very pleased. She was in the middle of the course. Before she could react, a the floor below her quickly sprung up at a diagonal angle. Clarice was thrown into the wall, knocking the breath out of her. This was not going to end well... |

Hi Brody, Mostly this looks good and the only problems are a few things that are mainly technical, so bear with me. First of all you need to put line breaks between paragraphs, as it looks a lot neater and makes it easier to read. You also need to save your profile picture, then upload it to something like photobucket, etc (any image host will do) so you're not hotlinking it. 1. In the powers, you need to put detail like how far she can teleport (give a ballpark figure in miles or kilometers or whatever you like using) and how many people. If you can't find a canon source, just put something sensible. 2. Relatives. She has them, or had rather. Again, make it up. It sounds silly, but details like this add to the character and make them more dimensional. 3. In terms of history, you've not done a bad job. It's a little sparse in areas, but not necessarily bad so I'll just comment on the areas that need tweaking: Apocalypse - you haven't done anything wrong here, but it'd help if you were a little more specific about the fact it was War who converted Clarice. Just because you write about something happening doesn't have to mean she knows the full detail. You just show understanding as a writer that way. Post-Apoc - it's great you reference plots, but you're not getting the full scope of WWX. That should take precedence over talking about something like the Savage Land plot which was only a side thing. How did she feel about Cyclops swapping identities with a criminal counterpart? Did any of her friends at the mansion change personality? It can be a hard plot to understand as a lot of it was simply a swapping of minds as opposed to a physical change, so if you get confused just ask. Purifiers - You're mostly good here. The bomb was on September 1st though ;) Skrulls - Again, you've got the important gist. All you might want to add is how she felt about living in a landscape filled with ancient jungles and dinosaurs, but that's optional. Current - You might want to at least add about the Dark X-men from the current plot: http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...showtopic=13913 It's a pain, I know, so take your time and ask if you need help. Don't worry though, you've made a very good start. The only other thing is if you can, try and make more of the sample. Right now it's an acceptable length for the board in terms of an average post, but we like to see your very best for the application. We don't need to see a novel, but we do need to see how you're going to play your character and what we can expect from them. I know you have permission to use Cyclops, but make sure the post revolves around her and remember to use line breaks. Look at approved apps if you need to see what I mean. If you need help just contact me or another staffer and we'll help you out, or please post when you have edited, thanks. |

This is better. You need to be more specific in terms of distance - a 'few states' does not represent anything as US states vary massively in size. Are we talking Colorado or New Jersey? Try to not use exclamation points so much in your history, as they're not at all necessary. Other than that the history is looking a lot better, a little rough around the edges but nothing that you won't pick up in game. When you've put a more exact figure on the teleportation distance, I'll be okay on this. Edit: You also need to make sure you have permission when you use people in the sample who exist in game. For a moment, you slip into first person so please be mindful of that. We always use third person. Thanks. |

This is better, again things you'll just pick up in game so at this stage I will stamp this, although someone else on staff may like something else fixed. [S T A M P] |
