They were primarily dresses made of lace, velvet, anything that would be incredibly uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Now that Serafina is free and able to choose for herself, she generally chooses the exact opposite of clothing. Hoodies, jeans, t-shirts, anything comfortable really. She doesn't wear make-up unless she's forced to go outside of Mutant Town. It's just easier for her to travel if people think she's vaguely normal. She also constantly wears a pair of leather gloves. She is never seen without them unless she is in her own home. UNIFORM: Serafina has never really had a true "uniform". Her uniform consists of leather pants, a leather jacket, and a shirt, generally black as well. POWERS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Serafina is a low level psionic mutant. Her gifts lie in psychometry and technopathy. Psychometry - Everything in life leaves an impression on the objects around you. Emotions, events of significance, and even repeated actions tend to leave their imprint on the objects in the area. Serafina can pick up on these moments, and sometimes, if the impressions are strong enough, track a person through their impressions. This is a passive ability. Without some sort of protection on her hands (i.e. her gloves), she will pick up on everything with a strong impression. She has no control over this power. Stronger impressions will give her insight to the mind of the person who left it. This is not a direct connection to their brain, however. Just a glimpse into the person's mind at that very moment in time. She can even see events that happened in that moment in time. Time tends to fade the imprints, but those with stronger ties will last much longer. Technopathy - Serafina is able to directly communicate with the technology around her. The first time she interfaces with an object, she has to touch it to connect, but repeat visits to the same object will create a link between Serafina and the piece of technology. Some tech that she carries on her person such as her laptop Cerberus or her phone George, she can connect to without touch. The range for this is within eyesight or 300 ft radius around her. She can directly "download" information from any database. She can store it for up to a week within her brain, but it will dump automatically after that. She can upload the information to another source before the week is up allowing others to be able to access it. She is able to store up to 15 terabytes of information into her mind before she begins to feel the effects. She can hold up to 20 terabytes in total. There is a hidden side to her abilities, one that she is not able to actively tap into. She can, through touch, access another person and do what she will with his or her body. This ability has only happened once, when she burned out the eyes of another Child of the Vault. It can only come with extreme emotion. Her technopathy also allows Serafina to be a brilliant coder. WEAKNESS: Psychometry - As mentioned previously, this is a passive ability. There is no way to control this power. Without hand protection, she is subject to all the imprints around her. The imprints vary in strength. The stronger the emotion, the more deeply Serafina is pulled into the event. For example, if she were to touch a weapon used recently for a murder, she would be pulled into the event itself. She would be placed in both bodies, the murderer and the victim. This is obviously very taxing and potentially hazardous. She is pulled into the event and experiences it herself, from both sides. She cannot be pulled back from the event, if she is sucked in. She must ride it out, no matter what happens to her physical form. This sort of event is draining on Serafina and depending on the severity or happenings of the memory, she could fall into a coma or even death. This also can happen if she is surrounded by lesser events. She will be pulled in all directions and experience everything in the area. This will also deplete her, but generally this will be less severe. Generally, Serafina will lose consciousness after something like this, but once again, it depends on the severity or type of event that happened. If someone is hurt during the memory, Serafina's brain sometimes believes that she herself has been hurt, especially if she's thrust into an emotionally laden memory. She doesn't have any physical manifestations of the injuries, simply psychosomatic symptoms. Technopathy - Serafina has to directly interface by touch with the first touch. Some technology, especially coding that is unfamiliar to Serafina, is harder to break into. Tech that Serafina has not already interfaced with will take longer than those she is familiar with. Technology with firewalls and the like also tend to be harder for her to break into. Tech that has been accessed by other technopaths can also prove a challenge for Serafina. Tech that has been used by other technopaths tends to be organized by their own thought processes. It's like going to someone's house and using their kitchen. The way they organize things is not exactly the same as the way you might organize things. It takes a while to find the bits and pieces she might need and organize them in a fashion that she can understand. The biological component of Serafina's powers is extremely taxing. She is not able to use it without being under an enormous amount of stress and high levels of emotion. She also must touch them for anything to occur. This use of her powers is extremely taxing, far more taxing than even her psychometry gone wild. She is lucky if she simply passes out. Extended use of this side of her power will result in death. The information she can collect, as mentioned before, dumps within a week's time. She can dump it sooner if she has no more use of it. Her brain can only hold so much, however. If she attempts to 'download' more information than she can handle, her body will react with migraines, nose bleeds and early dumping. PERSONALITY Serafina, at her core, is a good natured person. She doesn't want to hurt anyone and is willing to help those in need. Years of being thrown around and used have buried this core beneath a deep layer of paranoia and generalized loathing. She is pragmatic at best with those she does not know. She will only help others if it will help her in some way in the now or future. She is cold and distant to everyone on first meeting. She can and has warmed up to people, but it takes a very long time and quite a lot of patience on their part. Any betrayal of her trust either real or imagined is taken as a great slight and essentially those people are left at square one with her if she will speak to them at all. She has an innate sense of the need to survive that was taught to her by Nanny and the life she was forced to lead. She had to come first. She couldn't allow herself to become someone else's puppet. Not now, not ever again. Due to the influence of Nanny's dust, Serafina is a touch unstable at times. She tends to act out aggressively if she feels even the slightest bit of threat. She is also prone to bouts of paranoia, afraid that Nanny will come back for her and force her once again into a life of servitude. Captivity, even if imagined, tends to send her off the deep end either to aggression or unrelenting sorrow. To those she has become close to, Serafina is the most giving and loving person. She will do anything in her power to help and protect them. They have proved themselves to her time and time again. It is strange to see this contrast to those who have only seen the colder side of Serafina, but these are the people she trusts. She can let her guard down with them. She can be that scared little girl or the strong woman who has to fight for her survival, and they will not judge her. HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Sara Zoe Santiago was born to a middle class family in New York, New York. She was a well behaved child for the most part. Like every child, she had her moments of rebellion. As an only child, she was spoiled at every turn, given anything and everything she ever could have wanted. She led a rather happy life, enjoying a doting mother and ever loving father. Her happiness continued until the fateful day of the plane crash. Her family was ripped apart that day, and she could never trust her parents again. While on a private flight, Serafina's powers manifested and short circuited the plane. Thankfully, the pilot was well trained and they were able to make an emergency landing in a field. Her family was safe and secure, but there was something notably different about Serafina. She was panicked and afraid even after the crash. Her parents simply thought it was shock, but it was something much different. When they were away from the others, Serafina confessed that she caused the plane to go down. Her parents assured her that she didn't, but when she short circuited her father's cell phone in front of their eyes, there was no denying it. Her parents feared Serafina from that moment on. She was different, a mutant. Life continued as normally as it could after such an event. Her parents seemed closer, but they were far more distant with Serafina. Family time didn't happen as much as it used to. Vacations were cancelled. Her parents stopped spending time with her, and Serafina felt alone. She became an introvert and a loner. She was enrolled in school until her mutant powers began changing her body. Her parents pulled her out of school and left her to teach herself. She was no longer invited to family gatherings, and if her presence was demanded by one of her grandparents, she was forced to wear heavy amounts of make up to make her look as she always had. Normal. Her parents tried to reconnect with her around her fifteenth birthday, but the damage was already done. Family counseling seemed to go nowhere. One day, after a particularly heavy session, the family was approached by an old woman in a wheel chair. She began talking generally with Serafina's parents while Serafina moved away, not liking the woman and the interest she took in her. Her parents beckoned her back, and introduced the woman as 'Nanny'. When Serafina approached her, a battle suit, the Orphan Maker, appeared and attacked. Serafina used her powers as best she could to turn the suit against him. Her parents began running away from their daughter, leaving her to die. Serafina tried to run after them, but Nanny blew her dust into Serafina's face. Serafina was ordered to bring her parents back, and she did after a bit of coaxing. As they headed to the car, Orphan Maker appeared once more and murdered her parents right in front of her eyes. Serafina stood there while her parents cried out for her. She stood so close that her mother's blood was accidentally splattered on her face. Nanny cleaned her face of with a hanky, and with soothing words brought her to the woods where Nanny had hidden her plane. Peter, the Orphan Maker, was also under the influence of Nanny's dust and kept in a child-like state by her. When Peter took a liking to Serafina, Nanny offered her to him as his 'Dolly'. When he was good, she could stay with him, but when he was bad, she was locked in the Vault as his punishment. Peter took Serafina with him everywhere, and Nanny kept her complacent with her dust. She brainwashed Serafina into believing that she was indeed a doll and worth nothing more. Her powers were kept at bay, even forgotten on most days. Serafina was told that if she ever misbehaved, she would be broken and thrown away. She was easily replaced because she was an inanimate object, a plaything for those around her. DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009) Nanny, with the coming of Apocalypse, brought only her most valuable of children down into the Vault. Serafina would have been one of the easily expendable ones, but Peter was so attached to her that Nanny's hand was forced. Serafina would be saved from the coming events. With enough supplies to last a fortnight, the children were huddled in the dark in what was once their place of punishment. Serafina kept close to Orphan Maker and played games with him to pass the time. Regularly, Orphan Maker was sent up to see if the danger had passed. He came back with bad news each time. They stayed together, huddled close from what Nanny called the 'scourge'. Orphan Maker was sent up once again. He reported that the coast was clear, and the children were overjoyed. That joy did not last long, however. Orphan Maker covered his Dolly's eyes so that she would not see the carnage and desolation that Famine had left, but Serafina still had her sense of smell. Old and decaying flesh invaded her nostrils. Her hand reached out and something appeared to her, a vision. She saw what had happened above. The 'scourge' as Nanny so called it had murdered her family. It was there and then she decided that even if she could never survive the outside world, she could not continue living in a place that cast out her family so easily. POST-APOCALYPSE Nanny fled to the Mid-West with her children in tow. She set up a new Orphanage in town like the old one that had been destroyed. Nanny continued giving her children the 'maintenance' doses of Dust to keep them complacent. The dust, however, had begun to infect her children less and less. They were becoming immune. Nanny regularly upped their doses to keep them as they had always been. Serafina, however, was reminded through a newly manifested power what Nanny had done to them. Due to the brainwashing, Serafina was gentle and sweet to Peter, but to the others she was cold and calculating. One of her older brothers made the mistake of making a crude comment about Peter and his 'Dolly'. Serafina overheard it and touched his arm. She narrowed her eyes and watched as his eyes burned out of his skull. The only thing she could say was “Cherubim… too common”. Serafina continued to live as ‘Dolly’ for several more years, teetering between remembering and not. She could never remember her life before Nanny, but she had flashes when she slept of a woman and a man. She grew to resent their happy faces. One day, the dust simply stopped working. It wasn’t as if she was completely immune, but it had run out of early. Serafina sprang into action, taking control of Peter’s suit and breaking through the wall. She broke several other walls on her way out, hoping her brothers and sisters would escape too, but there was no way she could let go of Peter then. He would kill her. She finally broke into his electronics and shut him down. She ran off into Mutant Town to find a place to hide. She would not stay there long, however. She was recruited into the Brotherhood by a benevolent transporter. When she arrived, she was immediately attracted to the technology that powered the mutant community. She connected with it and even made friends with the machines. PURIFIERS She was not allowed to leave Sanctuary nor did she want to. She was never really made to fight. She was more of a support character. To send her into battle was to, essentially, send her to her death. She could take control of someone’s gear, but there was no such thing as a simple entry in the middle of a battlefield. With as much information as she had presently stored in her mind (purely by accident mind you), she was as much a hazard as she was an asset. Her first mission sent her with Frenzy and Manslaughter, two members of the Brotherhood, to retrieve some sensitive information about the whereabouts of several members of the Brotherhood. She retrieved the information and brought it back to her superiors. This cemented her admittance into the Brotherhood. During her stay at Sanctuary, Serafina met another mutant there, Exodus, and developed a rather unhealthy relationship with him. He fascinated her beyond measure for some odd reason. She sought him out several times. He, at one of their meetings, struck her with a piece of wood, giving her a scar on her right cheek when she chose his trust over her ‘beauty’. Even though he found her bold, he recruited her to the Network, the security and information security team. She was leader of the technopath team in charge of monitoring and reporting on the activities of the people of the Sanctuary. Serafina rejoiced in her admittance to the Network as proof that she was definitely worth more than an expendable plaything. There was a twitch in the back of her head, however. The nagging voice reminded her that she could not and would not ever become a plaything for someone else ever again. SKRULLS During the invasion of the Skrulls, Serafina was sent by Exodus to track the movements of Magneto who had been missing for some time. She was immune to the complacency waves due to telepathic blocks Exodus placed in her mind to protect the secure information she had accumulated during her stay at the Sanctuary. He sent her out while the portals of the Sanctuary were being breached by an army of Skrulls. Serafina was proud to be given such a task. Exodus had put quite a lot of faith into her, and she would not fail him. Serafina also jumped at the chance to leave Sanctuary, even for a little while. The walls had begun to close in on her, to make her feel trapped. Being tucked away for so long, it felt like her many trips to the Vault. It tasted of Nanny’s imprisonment, and that set her on edge. In the beginning of the Skrull attacks, Serafina was able to keep a low profile and keep moving. She attempted to track Magneto, but it was proving less fruitful than she had hoped. She could never seem to catch a solid feed on the man she was supposed to fillow. She stopped in Mutant Town in an attempt to find a lead, but unfortunately she was caught in the middle of the Skrull attack. She was badly injured and saved by an older mutant couple. POST SKRULLS For the first two weeks of her ‘captivity’, Serafina was strapped to a bed. She was too injured to really move, or at least this is what the couple told her. She didn’t believe them. She attempted to interface with any technology around her, but it seemed Cerberus was kept just out of her reach. She could feel his presence, but there was no way to connect with him. After the two weeks, she was allowed to walk around. The older gentleman was confident that she would be okay, though a little weak. She knew she had to return to her mission. She could not fail Exodus nor the Brotherhood. She tried to leave several times, but never quite made it outside of the apartment. She would pass out from exertion and brought back to the room they called hers. As the days continued, she began to interact more with the couple. She was still very suspicious of them and refused to let them in, keeping herself distant and cold. They took all her nasty demeanor in stride, and continued to care for her. Her strength was returning to her day by day. Serafina took to helping around the apartment to help build her stamina. She grew closer to the couple, Derrick and Samantha. She found herself talking and even laughing with them after a while. It was strange for her, trusting people again. They had done nothing to harm her, however. Derrick and Samantha did not press into Serafina’s life, though they shared theirs with her. She shared bits and pieces with them, but never the whole story. That was something she was not comfortable with sharing. Her life had been a hard one, and due to conditioning, she felt it was not something worth sharing with the world. Once Serafina was healthy enough, she returned to her mission, much to the chagrin of Derrick and Samantha. They had grown fond of her. All good things must come to an end, however. They bid her farewell. She stayed around Mutant Town, attempting to catch a bead on Magneto once again, fearing failure. Deep down she still believed that she was only worth her contributions. If she failed, she was easily replaced by another, and then what would become of her? ILLUMINATI Serafina, after a month with no leads, had to admit defeat. She had orders to return to Sanctuary. Things were put into motion that would require her expertise. She returned and kept to herself. She could not face Exodus, not now. She was afraid of what would happen if she did. Work soon became her primary concern. She would prove herself worthy once again. She kept her nose down and did exactly as she was asked. While she had not been there long, she had gained quite a bit. She didn’t want to lose it now. As the months passed, Serafina began to forget herself and the world outside. It was easy to do when you were face to face with a computer all day. She pulled away from everything and everyone. She became obsessed with the upkeep and running of Sanctuary’s systems. She had seen bits and pieces of something Exodus had been plotting. She kept her nose away from it, however. She had not yet proven herself in her own mind that she was worthy. She would not approach him until she was ready. Then it happened. Insomnia. Her need to prove herself was quickly forgotten. She slipped out of the Sanctuary to find Derrick and Samantha. They had been affected, she knew it. She found them, exhausted and scared. She took them where they needed to go, and left them. She couldn’t stay long. She promised to come back again sometime. She turned and headed back for Sanctuary. Later that evening, she watched the news on a rare break and saw what had happened at the community center. She was on her way out when she glimpsed the face of Derrick holding Samantha’s hand. They were okay. Hurt, but okay. She breathed a sigh of relief and promised herself that when it was all over, she would go back to them and bring them here. They would be safe here. This place was called Sanctuary for a reason. Her job was not done. With the world crumbling, it was important for her to stay on watch for potential trouble. That trouble would not be too far in the future, a few short months, Hell fell from the skies. She was in the Citadel when Vulcan rained fire and monsters from the skies. As useless as a human, she attempted to get others to safety, away from the monsters. She did the best she could, but the devastation was too much. She watched many people die that day. CURRENT HISTORY Once the portals were back online, Serafina went to Mutant Town to find Derrick and Samantha. Sadly, they had both died during the Phoenix Attacks. She buried them properly and took only a few things of theirs to remember them by: Samantha’s necklace, Derrick’s favorite cast iron pan, and their wedding rings. The items have joined the fragment of the Vault she kept after the apocalypse. She has returned to work, attempting once again to hide herself in her work so she won’t have to face the emotions of loss once again. SAMPLE RP POST: It was the first day Serafina had been allowed off of the bed. The couple had claimed it was for her own good, but she didn’t feel that way. They had taken all her things from her and tied her to the bed. It was humiliating to say the least. She slowly ambled into the living room and sat down with a pained grunt. The woman seemed worried about her, but didn’t move to go to her side. “I see you are up. That’s good. Would you like something to eat?” She asked quietly. Serafina grunted at her and looked at her surroundings. They didn’t have much in the way of tech, but Cerberus’ familiar hum was close. She looked at her back and wished she could will it like Exodus moved things. She frowned at the thought of him, her finger touching her cheek. The once pink scar had healed over, leaving a permanent reminder of him. Her hands already had reminders of her escape why was she forced to relive that moment of fear over and over? She hadn’t realized that a place of bacon and eggs was placed before her. “We didn’t know if you were a vegetarian or anything like that. We’re not so we just cooked you what we had.” The man said. Serafina hadn’t even realized he had entered the room. She looked up at him and gave him a rather ungrateful face. “I don’t want anything.” It was moments like these that her paranoia out. They could be poisoning her or attempting to control her as so many others had. She pushed herself up, gathered her bag and moved back to the room they had designated as her own. She didn’t want to be near them, she didn’t want to speak with them. She simply wanted out. She wanted to go home. Where was home, though? Sanctuary? Back to a life of servitude? Of captivity? That really wasn’t her idea of a paradise for mutants. She closed the door behind her and settled her things down. She curled beside them and fell asleep again. When Serafina awoke again, it was daylight still. Or was it again? She cuddled closer to Cerberus and checked. Again. She had slept the whole day. Her stomach was growling now. She didn't know when the last time she had food was. She pushed herself up, feeling a bit better than the day before. That didn't mean much. She felt like someone had attacked her with a mack truck repeatedly. She shifted her weight up and grabbed her bag and once again made her way into the other room. In theory, they had plenty of times to kill her. She didn't know how long she had been out. Time seemed to mash together when you were sent out searching for someone who hid their tracks well. "Look who's awake. Do you want something to eat?" The man asked. She opened her mouth to decline, but her stomach betrayed her with a nasty growl. She blushed some, though her skin only turned a darker gray. He laughed and nodded. "Do you like sandwiches?" Serafina nodded again and moved to sit at the table. She looked for an electrical outlet and plugged Cerberus in. She frowned some. She had last fully checked in with Cerberus a week ago. She made her silent apologies to her longtime friend. "You seem pretty attached to that thing. My wife tried to take it from you when you were sleeping. You clung to it to the point she was afraid of waking you up so she left it there. Did you damage it?" Serafina shook her head. "Cerberus has taken a lot more punishment than me sleeping on him. He's been through a lot with me." She ran her fingers over his marred surface. The man nodded some, smiling. "It's good to have friends, even if they are mechanical ones." The man said softly before walking into the kitchen. He came back with a simple turkey and cheese sandwich. "I can make more if you like." He put it in front of her and settled down across the way from her. She looked at him, a bit surprised that he would sit with her. He noticed the surprise and laughed. "I was always taught that food was never a real meal without company." Serafina quirked her lip a little. It was a funny thought. She had never really dealt much with people. The other children were often not allowed near her when Peter was around. She carried enough sensitive information with her that she was kept in isolation on Sanctuary. Sure she was free to go anywhere she wanted there, but not beyond. Not into the real world. The man noticed her deep in thought and murmured. "It seems to me that you've had a hard life." Serafina looked at him. Her eyes narrowed a moment before looking down at the food. She was suddenly not as hungry as she had been before. She needed to eat however. She picked the sandwich up and nibbled at it. "A hard life, eh?" Serafina shook her head. "I.. you could say that." She would leave it at that. Talking about her past was not one of Serafina's fonder past times. She began scarfing the sandwich down. She frowned at the empty plate when she was done. She looked back up at him, almost sad. There was no sandwich left. He gave her a knowing smile and took the plate. He headed back into the kitchen. She tapped Cerberus and created a log entry letting whoever was watching know that she indeed was alive. She didn't know where she was. She only knew that she had been here for a week. She closed Cerberus again without sending the log. She might later if she felt like it. The woman returned carrying several grocery bags. She looked a bit overwhelmed. Serafina frowned and stood slowly. She walked over and took two bags from the woman. "Thank you, dear. I needed the help. Where is Derrick?" Serafina twisted her lips. His name was Derrick. All right. She pointed to the kitchen. "Ah yes. So you're eating? That's good. Healing takes a lot out of you. You need to eat as much as you can. We can handle it." Serafina nodded. She brought the two bags she had into the kitchen and settled them onto the counter. "Do you need me to do anything?" Serafina was suddenly very tired from that little bit of physical activity. She leaned against the counter. If she had the strength, she would have hopped onto it. She didn't want to embarrass herself. They had already seen her prone and potentially dreaming. That was too much as it stood. "All we need for you to do is get better." The man, Derrick, commented after he offered her the plate. Serafina nodded her thanks and moved slowly back to the table. She finished off the second sandwich in record time once again. She pushed the plate away and looked at her bag. She didn't really want to carry it back with her, but leaving Cerberus alone again felt worse. She would sit here for a while. The woman came out and sat in the other chair at the table. "Sorry we don't have much, but you're welcome to anything. I'm Samantha, by the way. That is my husband Derrick." The woman, Samantha, motioned towards the kitchen. Serafina simply nodded. She didn't know these people. Something as simple as her name might give them some fair advantage. Samantha smiled and tilted her head to the side. "Did he wear you out with his talk of politics and the like?" Serafina shook her head. "He told me that I seemed to have had a hard life. And that food is not a meal without company." "Well, at least he was polite in front of company. If he starts boring you, just tell him. It's generally better that way." Serafina couldn't help but laugh. Samantha smiled at that. "You're much prettier when you smile." Serafina blushed once again and looked away. The woman reached out and touched Serafina's hand. "I didn't mean to offend you.." Serafina pulled her hand back quickly. The walls seemed much closer than they had before. Without another word, she picked up her bag and walked back into her room. She closed the door and lay down once again. It was time for sleep, time to dream of nothing. She didn't like that the woman had touched her. She knew, deep down, that she meant well, but touch was not something she was accustomed to or even welcomed from most people. She could hear them talking in hushed whispers, but she didn't care to listen. Sleep was calling and she meant to answer that call. Serafina only appeared for a few days for meals. She ate, thanked the couple, and returned to her room. Soon she began eating regularly and spending more time awake. She was starved for contact, but she couldn't bring herself to send off the log. She had written more, much more, but it didn't seem to matter. What if the Brotherhood thought that Derrick and Samantha had taken her? They had been nothing but kind to her even when she was less than hospitable to them. She decided, that day, to go out and spend time with them. To talk. She stepped outside of her room and settled on the small, well used couch. The room smelled of lunch. "You're awake again. Good. Derrick is making lunch. Did you sleep well?" Samantha greeted her with the same warmth she always did. Serafina nodded politely and put Cerberus on her lap. Samantha and Derrick had gotten used to Serafina's silence. They simply continued to talk. "You're in for a treat tonight. Derrick brought home some ground meat. We're going to have shepard's pie. Have you ever had that?" Serafina shook her head no. She was primarily used to rations. Samantha nodded and continued. "I think you will love it. I surely do. Derrick makes it according to his mother's recipe. She was a good woman, or so I've heard. I sadly never got to meet her." Serafina nodded. She didn't quite know what to say to that. She didn't remember her own mother. She didn't remember anything before Nanny. Derrick walked in with grilled cheese and soup for both Serafina and Samantha. They accepted it with pleasure and began eating. Derrick brought his own in and settled at the table. "How are you doing today? Do you feel any better?" Serafina considered this for a moment. Should she answer him directly or simply nod? She wanted to speak more with them, to learn more about them. "I do feel better, and thank you for healing me. You really didn't have to do that." Both Derrick and Samantha looked up quickly, shocked that Serafina had even said anything. She blushed some and looked at her food. "I should have repaid your kindness with kindness, but I didn't. I'm sorry for that. You didn't and don't deserve the treatment that you've received from me. When you mentioned that I seem to have had a hard life, I didn't answer you. I did and still do. My life has become dancing for masters. Replacing one for another. Never having a life that is my own. Not many people have been kind to me as you two have been. When someone is nice to me, I think that they want something from me. You two do not deserve that. You have had plenty of chances to kill me, to put me under a spell, but you haven't. You deserve some measure of trust. My name is Serafina." The couple looked at each other, a warm smile shared between them. They had never heard Serafina speak so much. "Not everyone is instantly friends with everyone they meet. Some people need to develop a level of trust, much like you said. I'm glad you trust us, Serafina. I'm happy to meet you." Samantha smiled as she spoke, incredibly happy that Serafina was warming up to them. She was afraid that Serafina would never warm up to them and leave as quickly as she came. She did not reach over and touch the girl as she did previously. She had learned her lesson on that. She did lean over to Derrick and give him a kiss on the cheek. "I told you she would warm up to us." Serafina smiled a little and nodded. She blushed again and began shoving food in her mouth. Samantha laughed at that. "You shouldn't be so embarrassed, Serafina." "I didn't have much of a family. I'm not used to this 'teasing' thing. Most people treat me like a walking talking computer." She blushed and put a hand over her mouth. She hadn't meant for that to come out, but it did. She sighed internally. Oh well. She continued to eat her food. The couple had seen her reaction and knew better than to pursue the issue further. They had learned that much about Serafina. She didn't talk about what she wanted to talk about. "Since you offered us this trust, we will offer you the same. We have not had much of a family either. Both of our parents, my father and Samantha's parents, thought that we were something to be 'fixed'. We met in what could only be described as a mutant boot camp for wayward teens. We fell in love and once we were released, we moved away from them and started a life of our own. We were never blessed with children so we try to help those in need like you. It has gone well for us, but we still wish we had children of our own." Derrick spoke softly, smiling sadly. Serafina tensed a bit, reminded heavily of Nanny. Samantha sensed Serafina's tension and put a hand on Derrick's arm. "We don't mean to take you in as our own, Serafina. We would never force you to do anything you did not wish. We do want you to think of this place as a refuge, however. If you ever need anything, come to us and we will do what we can to help you." Serafina relaxed a bit, but put her food to the side. The topic of children had destroyed her appetite. She nodded though, acknowledging that they didn't want to make her a captive like everyone else. "You said that you have had one master after another. That you never had a life of your own. You're young now, and you have quite a lot of life ahead of you. You should live for you. If you dance to another's drum for too long, you will wake up and realize that your life has passed you by. You will be old and unable to get back the life you wasted on others. Be your own master. Live your life and be happy. Love who you want and live how you want. You are worth more than your abilities. You are a unique soul who has something to give to the world. Don't let others hide it." Serafina listened to Derrick's words, trying to absorb them. It was hard to live for herself. She didn't remember how, really. She had always been the slave to another. Serafina stood and nodded to them. "Thank you, but all this talking has worn me out. I think it's time for a nap." Derrick and Samantha nodded. "Sleep well." They chimed together. Serafina smiled and nodded to them both. She slipped back into the room and lay on her bed. Sleep was quick coming and for the first time in a long time, she didn't dream of Nanny and of death. |

Fairly well impressed with this, detailed, thorough, and it looks like you did a good job on your research. It's good to see a Vaulter being portrayed as not wholly evil/psychotic. Mad props. You have my... [S T A M P] You'll be needing one more from another site admin, which should be around in the next couple days. |

Mostly this app looks really good, but there's one or two areas that need very minor tweaking. 1. Family - with her birth family, she does have them even if a Marvel source doesn't name them, so here we tend to name them ourselves. It just adds a little bit more back story to our characters. It's fine if no one knows their names in character, but out of character we get everything as rounded as possible. 2. Current History - our site history does not contain the last sitewide, which was the Illuminati. In game, it's been around a year and a half since Skrulls and while you don't need to detail everything that happened in the Illuminati, a lot DID happen, especially with Exodus, so you might find it useful to read up a little and see what you can add. If you need help with that, you can ask me or another staff member to guide you though it, but try and use the weekly story updates: http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...p?showforum=183 Also try these links: http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...showtopic=13913 http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...showtopic=13881 http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...showtopic=14382 http://z4.invisionfree.com/Xrevolution/ind...showtopic=14380 And I realise I just spammed the heck out of you with links, so I'm sorry for that but they are mostly plot information threads where you can glean the basics of what went on. Let me know if you need help, or post when you're done. Thanks :) |
