POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Clyde fisher, despite his light hair and blue eyes, has an alternate form that is much different in appearance than his own. He is a Water Horse- A somewhat mythical creature more commonly known as Nessie, or the Loch Ness Monster. Clyde's Water Horse form stands at about 20-25 feet tall from his head down to the ground and is well over a ton. Despite being almost dinosaur-like in nature, Clyde's Water Horse is mammalian.

While in the likeness of a Water Horse, Clyde has excellent mobility in a wide area of water, gliding along with little to no effort using his flippers. On land, he is still able to move, though the action is a bit more awkward- more like a sea lion's way of waddling.

Clyde is never one to immediately choose violence, though He does have more than a few advantages as a Water Horse. His teeth, two inches in length and meant for spearing fish, are his primary weapons to damage an opponent. His more sinister ways of killing victims is to drown or crush them if necessary. Clyde also has a layer of firm blubber as a water horse, protecting him from most severe injury by puncturing or slashing(though it will still hurt, and can turn into a serious injury through blood loss)

Clyde's shapeshifting abilities are based around water. Water-to-skin contact is his primary source of shifting, though just a few droplets won't cause any shift. For the most effortless shifts, Clyde must be drenched, though he can still stop the change at this point if he concentrates. Salt water has the most effect on his abilities, making it difficult for Clyde to remain a human if he is soaked.

Water vapor in the air does not have any effect on him, though if he is caught in a downpour, he may shift, though this would only happen if he was in a zombie-like state of exhaustion. Baths, pools, fountains, and showers have little effect on him due to the chlorine and chemicals mixed into them.

Clyde can maintain his Water Horse form for roughly a full day before he would need to rest for a period of 5-10 hours; if the shift was willing. If he shifts subconsciously, or is forced into shifting, then his Water Horse can last anywhere from an hour to twelve hours depending on how fast he can dry off or concentrate enough on reverting to his human form.

WEAKNESS:
Despite being able to crunch down on people and possibly flatten them with a flipper, Clyde's Water Horse form isn't all that useful on land. He can move without problem normally, though not very fast. He also has trouble actively defending himself from attacks as a Water Horse while on land, and, depending on the circumstance, in water. The taste of human blood makes Clyde retch, leading him to try and not use his teeth.

If Clyde is exhausted emotionally or mentally, he may not be able to stop himself from changing into a Water Horse if he touches water, whether it be rain, a fountain, or even a pool. If he changes in a room too small for his form, it will cause serious strain on his neck or spine and can hurt him.

PERSONALITY

To most, Clyde is just one of the oddballs life throws out during a late night drinking session. A man with no concern for wealth, marriage, or even what he's going to be doing in his career is definitely not the prized best friend most seek. He has his own way of approaching things, and though he means well, has trouble explaining himself.

Clyde, overall, is an easygoing individual with a laid-back approach to things. He has a lazy grace about him, always wearing his tie crooked but speaking from the heart on a daily basis. His first love has always been the Ocean- He would marry it if he could, and often calls it his lady. Clyde also has a heart for his niece, Lillyanne Harper, and would do anything for 'his little girl.'

Clyde does boast an almost fatherly side, and is gentle where he needs to be. He is Lillyanne Harper's guardian, and has been for almost five years- a responsibility he tries his best to hold onto. Clyde is quick to give help and be a shoulder to cry on for his friends and even his students. He is not one, however, to do the same in return, and is afraid to ask for help most of the time.

Clyde has problems with the muscle in his left leg; a lasting injury from his escape during the apocalypse. Though his limp isn't too noticeable, it does impact his gait, and occasionally require him to use a cane or a crutch. it is because of this injury that he doesn't like to go out to theme parks or fairs that cover large areas. He doesn't want to Harry others by needing to sit down at intervals and ruin their fun.

HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE
Clyde Fisher was born in the city of Bar Harbor, Maine. The youngest of three children, he was subject to many teases and sibling rivalries, most initiated by his brother, Clemont. Clyde, however, shared a bond with his oldest sibling that far outweighed his bond with Clemont.

It was when he was six years old did Clyde discover his unique ability. Clarice had taken him out to roam around along a rock wall against the bay's waters- a usual spot for the two. Clemont was ill with the flu at the time, and Sally Fisher did not want to deal with three sick children. Clarice hadn't meant to, but when she hopped up to a rock where her brother was standing, she jostled it just enough to make Clyde lose his balance and plummet into the waters below.

A terrified scream and a few moments later, Clarice rushed down to the dock, searching desperately for her youngest brother in the waters. The minute it took for him to surface seemed like an eternity, and the minute that passed after she saw him even longer. There, frantically trying to clamber up on the dock with awkward flippers, was a tiny Water Horse.

It was curiosity rather than recognizing her brother that led Clarice to pick up the creature and set it on the dock. It was little, a bit pudgy, definitely suited for water rather than land. It gave a whimper-like noise and waddled to her, nuzzling her pocket. When the creature pulled her Hei Matau from her pocket and put it in her lap, it was then that she finally realized who the little thing was. But how did her brother become this?

Clyde was stashed in her bag with orders to hush as she snuck him back in. Clemont was asleep and Their parents out of the house, making for an easy getaway. Clarice closed the bathroom door and put Clyde in the sink, now in quite the predicament. How would she get her brother back? Time seemed to be the only realistic option, and after a half hour of waiting, there was a confused Clyde sitting in the sink, blonde hair and all.

After that first incident, Clyde was much more careful whenever the family left on trips to the bay. He was afraid to swim in front of them, in fear he would turn into whatever monster he was. This went on for about five years before Tragedy struck.

Clyde had been swimming in the bay during the evening, and, as he always did, shifted forms into the Water Horse. By now, He and Clarice had concluded that it was triggered by water, any water, though the urge to shift wasn't as strong when he was in a bath or pool. He was swimming along the bank, clambering up on the sand as a Water Horse to wait out his inevitable change. This time, however, he had a spectator.

Clemont had seen him get out of the water and rushed to grab their parents, for surely this was a big find! A creature with a long neck and flippers wasn't in any science book he knew. As Clemont returned with parents en tow, Clyde couldn't have picked a worse time to revert to his natural form. The horrified stares of his parents follow him to this day.

His mother was the first to get over it. She had known Clyde was different, but never expected what happened. Despite her initial fear of what her son was, she treated him the same, with the promise that he would try to learn how to stop the change when he wanted to. Clyde's father, however, was more drastic with his reaction. No longer speaking to his son, Zachary Fisher took to staying at work later rather than coming home to avoid him. After a rather nasty fight, Sally and Zachary Fisher divorced, leaving Clyde with his mother and Clemont with his father. (Clarice was no longer a minor at this time, and chose to live under Sally Fisher rather than their father.)

The split put a strain on the two households, both financially and personally. Sally Fisher put a restraining order on her husband after he came to their house only to berate and insult Clyde in a drunken rage. Soon, however, They settled down, and life went on. Sally picked up more hours at her job in a local mattress store, Clarice began working in the hotel, and Clyde, when he was of age, signed on to one of the many fishing ships in Bar Harbor.

The fishing ship was called The Whitecap- a small trawler belonging to a privately owned fleet. Pay was good, despite the lack of insurance, and, above all, he got to sail on the open ocean.

Clyde loved every bit of it. The wind in his hair, the salty smell of the ocean, the scent of fish, even the ice stinging his eyes. Most of all, however, he loved the whales.

There were plenty of whales around Bar Harbor. Sei, Minke, And sometimes gray whales would swim up against the boat. Clyde figured maybe the whales thought the boat was another whale- boats did look odd from below. He, like most of the crew, enjoyed watching the giants swim by, their blows misting the air. One day, a rather large gray whale with a calf swam too close as the boat was turning. Clyde never forgot the sound of flesh and metal, or how his heart dropped when the water bloomed with red.

He screamed at the captain to stop, sprinting up the stairs to the wheelhouse and begging for him to just stop and call the coast guard- anybody- to come help the whale. The Captain, an older man by the name of Gregory Nichols, only turned to slap Clyde, spitting a phrase that was the turning point for his career.

"I don't give a damn about no whale."

Clyde was grabbed from the wheelhouse by a close friend on the boat and practically dragged down below. His friend was trying to keep him from seeing the body of the whale floating in the crimson water, and her calf wondering what was wrong. Clyde did see it.

Though Captain Nichols was arrested by the Coast Guard, and the whale calf in the care of a local marine rescue, Clyde couldn't stop crying. He returned to the harbor in one of the coast guard ships, where they were able to calm him down enough for him to breathe, and consoled him. The captain of the crew took him aside and asked him why he was so upset over a whale. Clyde told him it was because the whale didn't deserve to die.

After that incident, Clyde no longer worked on the trawler. He visited the facility where the whale calf was taken, and soon found himself a regular amongst the group of biologists. Through their internship program, Clyde was able to study at their college, and found himself graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology. Clyde, with a scholarship from the program, left to the nearest university to further his degree.

During his time in the program, however, Clarice came back to live with them. She and her boyfriend had moved out, and when his sister came home with a lightly swollen stomach and all of her luggage, Clyde feared the worst. Clarice gave birth to a healthy baby girl in May, and despite her best effort to come to terms with being a single parent, she did not feel that she could give her the best life possible. Clarice put her little girl, Lillyanne, up for adoption, and met with the family that would take her shortly after.

After years of hard work and encouragement from his sister, Clyde graduated with a master’s degree in Marine Biology, and bachelors in teaching. His dream of educating students about conservation of the marine environment was interrupted when Clarice was killed in a pileup on the freeway.

Clyde took the loss of his sister hard. Many times he had to leave class or call a substitute because he was just too emotional. One thing came after the other, and Clyde, more on a whim than actually considering it, decided to adopt Lillyanne instead of allowing her to be adopted into a family.

DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009)

Clyde had cared for Lilly Hardly over a year when the news came. News of destruction racing across the coast, people condemned to mindless state. Clyde shoved whatever he could- clothes, pictures, food- all immediate necessities into a suitcase. He woke up Lilly and told her to do the same, helping her pack her own clothes and shoved the rest of their necessities in the second suitcase. With both suitcases in garbage bags for water protection, Clyde took Lilly in one arm, bags in the other, and raced down the already panicked street to the harbor. There, he ushered Lilly onto his research boat- The Windrunner- threw a few jugs of fuel onto the deck, and cut the rope attaching them to the dock.

Clyde and Lilly managed to make it to the outskirts of Newfoundland’s coast on their tenth day of sailing. However, over the next seven days, the seas grew rough. The Windrunner was tossed about like a plaything in the ocean’s grip, when she was finally slammed ashore. Clyde and Lilly managed to make it out of the wreckage, though Clyde’s leg was in desperate need of care. It had been crushed by the fridge on board after it came loose. Tired, hungry, and in pain, Clyde blacked out an hour after they ran aground.

The only reason Clyde survived that bitterly cold night was because of Lilly. She took out all of the blankets they had in both suitcases, put them over her uncle, and snuggled in next to him. The rock beneath them was like ice, but Lilly wasn't strong enough to lift Clyde onto a blanket. When she found him to be still in the morning, Lilly feared that her uncle had died in the night. She felt him shift against her, however, and immediately hugged him close.

Clyde and Lillyanne were saved when a small fishing boat spotted the teal of the top blanket. The captain of the boat, Glossom, was from Nuuk, Greenland. He, too, was trying to escape the path of destruction, with his wife, two children, and a young woman who was a family friend. The young woman(who, admittedly, took a liking to the gold haired American man) nursed Clyde back to health best she could as the little boat floated out on the sea. When they finally had to dock in Europe, a month later, they learned that the world was somewhat back to normal. Glossom brought Clyde and Lillyanne back to Bar Harbor, where they stayed a week before parting ways. Clyde and Glossom still stay in touch via email.

POST-APOCALYPSE

The journey during the apocalypse took a lasting toll on Clyde. His left leg, moreso his knee, was never able to fully heal. He had pulled the muscle too badly, the only option to return it to normal being surgery. Clyde had a deep seated fear of surgery at the time, and though he regrets it now, opted to stick with his injury. Through physical therapy and medication, Clyde's leg progressively healed to what it is today.

Clyde learned that Zachary Fisher, his father, had been killed in the devastation. He hardly mourned, electing to visit his mother instead. Sally fisher later came to live with Clyde and Lilly, before re-marrying to a park ranger named Fred Jacobs. She left to live in Montana with her newfound husband.

Once the world calmed down, Clyde took up teaching Marine Biology yet again, this time at the high school level. Feeling that he connected more with this age group, Clyde declined the offer to return to the university, much to some of his university students' dismay. Clyde also rejoined the Marine Rescue- this time, with Lilly at his side. Clyde was able to get his niece into the Junior Biologist program, where the two soon became the dynamic duo.

PURIFIERS

Clyde was horrified when he heard news of the purifiers. The closest attack was on New York City, and even that was too close for comfort. Thankfully, he was able to leave Lillyanne in the care of his mother until the attacks faded. Clyde left to stay with Glossom and his family in Nuuk, hoping that the so-called purifiers wouldn't dare to venture to Greenland.

It was during this time that Clyde found out about Xavier's institute, though he didn't give it much thought- he was content to teach in Maine.

SKRULLS

Clyde followed The rest of the world into slavery when the complacency wave numbed his senses. Though he followed obediently, mindlessly content with their new rulers, through most of the wave, he did snap out of the trance in the final days. At first, Clyde was a bit panicked, but as long as nothing happened to Lillyanne, he didn't try to fight. When Lilly awoke from her own spell, Clyde took her back to Nuuk for a few days- just to be safe.

ILLUMINATI

Clyde was on the coast of New York when the first attack came. He was celebrating the new year with a few of his colleagues when a loud boom rattled the windows only slightly. He, like most of the others, stopped his countdown to investigate, seeing people running by on the streets. Clyde had no choice but to stay in his friend’s apartment until he caught sight of the Harbor from the window. The sight was unbelievable, but the black dots flailing in the water he knew to be people. There was no way they could escape that… thing.

Against his friends’ objections, Clyde managed to break through the hordes of people running past him, and dove into the water where he shifted into the Water Horse. He did the best he could to push people towards the shore, dragging the ones who had already sunken out of the blue, but even he did not want to fight against the Leviathan. Clyde rescued roughly thirty people before being forced out of the water by his own fear. He regrets not staying to save more civilians.

The rest of the attacks were more than frightening. Again, New York City was targeted, shaking his confidence. When he learned of the other attacks, Clyde called his mother to stay with her. Staying with Glossom never crossed his mind- he needed the protection of family.

Clyde and Lillyanne stayed in Montana until they believed the attacks to be over. Just when Clyde was calm enough to return home... More attacks came after another, until he believed nowhere to be safe. Confronting his mother in tears after seeing the #killyourheroes video, Clyde left his family and headed north, no longer wishing to be around anyone. If mutants were being targeted, he did not want his family involved. However, Clyde simply couldn't live alone, too distraught to sleep in an empty house. Knowing this, Sally Fisher sent with him a Mutt she had adopted in the shelter named Bonnie.

Bonnie became Clyde's closest companion during the Illuminati events. Though she was never trained as a therapy dog, Bonnie learned how to calm Clyde down and comfort him. it wasn't until he was settled in Canada that he realized his mother's humor with Bonnie's name.

Then came the nightmares. Horrible, terrifying nightmares that followed him even in waking. images of Clarice's body broken on the road, Ships harpooning him in the bay as a Water Horse, Lilly screaming for him to help in a sea of blood... Each time, the scenes became more intense. Clyde took to coffee and sweets to stay awake long as he could before finally blacking out on the floor, and if he was lucky, a chair.

Clyde was greeted with a knock at his door and found his mother, Lillyanne, and His mother's spouse at his door. Montana was no longer safe, they said. Yellowstone was becoming restless.

Though many of their things remained in their suitcases, the living was cramped. Clyde slept out on the recliner while Lilly slept on a small air mattress meant for a car next to him. Sally Fisher and her husband slept in the one bedroom. One morning, Lilly, used to watching Animal Planet to wake up with Clyde, turned on the dusty television to find images of the dead and the screaming victims of the lava flows being broadcast. Clyde was too late to turn it off; She had already seen it. It was at this point that Lilly realized just how much danger they were in.

As if the erupting volcanoes weren't enough, the Fisher family awoke one morning in an eerie darkness. Clyde lit some candles, but even the tiny flames seemingly could not penetrate the blackness around them. With fear and dread filling their hearts, the Fishers stayed close and carefully rationed their food to avoid going out in the dark. When the black veil finally lifted, it was a joyous occasion... For they did not know why the darkness disappeared.

Word of the attacks around the world reached the Fishers when Clyde stopped by an abandoned grocery store to collect what he could find. The place was already raided as it was. He split his findings with an older man who was hiding in the basement of his house with a few others. Sally and her spouse chose to return home to Montana while they had time, though Clyde stuck with Lilly in the cabin on the outskirts of Yellowknife, Canada.

As the attacks and events settled, Clyde and Lilly returned to Bar Harbor, eager to leave the small house in Canada. Though most of the boats were destroyed from being smashed against the piers, and even some of the piers torn apart, Clyde's hometown was intact. Unfortunately, Clyde lost most of his fish during the attack; all except a young white koi and Lillyanne's Ryukin goldfish(Mr. Fish) were floating in the tanks. Clyde, however, chose not to restore his aquascapes, and donated the, to the marine facility.

Clyde waited until the world was calm before he ever let himself shift into the Water Horse. This was a mistake.

CURRENT HISTORY

After a trawler crew spotted him in his Water Horse state, Clyde kept a low profile. He no longer went out to the bay, even though he could control his shifting, in fear that the 'Nessie of Maine' would be found to be him. As searches got more and more violent, with fishermen now harpooning whales and dolphins; mistaking them for him; Clyde forced himself to leave his home in Bar Harbor. With luggage in one hand, Lilly's in the other, Clyde hopes to join Xavier's institute for real this time... In hopes he would

SAMPLE RP POST:

Clyde cracked open his eyes to see a pair of equally blue staring back at him. He stifled a yawn, a lazy smile splitting his lips. "Yes?"

"It's morning, Uncle Fishy!"

"Is it now?" Clyde wrapped an arm around the little girl on his chest, sitting up and placing her in his lap. "It's still dark outside."

"But today is the day you leave!" Whined the young girl, "I wanted to see you before you go!"

"I'll only be gone for three days,Lilly." Clyde ruffled her hair affectionately, "You'll have fun with Miss Devitt."

"But I wanna go with yoooou!"

"I can't take you out with me, Lilly. It's going to be cold and the seas will be rough. I don't want you to get hurt."

"But-"

"No buts." Clyde lifted her up and stood, making his way through the doorway and into the living room of the apartment. "Miss Devitt will be taking you to Acadia Park, I hear. You love going there."

"I love going there with you Uncle Fishy. She's mean."

The blonde frowned, setting his niece in her usual spot on the counter to help make breakfast and retrieving four eggs from the fridge. "Miss Devitt isn't mean. She's a very kind lady."

Lillyanne crossed her arms with a huff.

"Lilly," Clyde set the eggs in the sink and crouched down to be at eye level with the girl. "I know you want to come with me. I would want to go too if I were your age. But there are some things little biologists can't do. The water between the cliffs is too violent now with the storms, and we have to guide a fully grown Sei whale out of the channel. If it were just a simple tagging and locating of the whales, of course you could come. The crew loves having you along. But this is too dangerous." when Lilly still had a pout on her face, Clyde poked her stomach, "Stop with that face." Knowing how ticklish she was, Clyde continued poking until he got a laugh out of her.

"We'll be tagging the newly grown gray whales next month. I know those are your favorite." Lilly's eyes lit up, "Will that make up for these three days?"

Lillyanne looked away, "...It might."

"It's hatching time now. You'll be able to see all the baby puffins trying to fly."

"Really?"

"Would I lie to you?"

Lillyanne huffed, but Grabbed one of the eggs Clyde had set down and cracked it into a nearby bowl. Chuckling to himself, Clyde got out the whisk and a pan, setting the stove accordingly. "What are we making today, Miss Lillyanne?"

"Omelets!"

"Omelets?" Clyde blinked, looking in the fridge. "We don't have anything that would go in the Omelets."

"...Chocolate Omelets?" Lilly ventured.

Clyde made a face, "I don't think chocolate goes well with Omelets." He rummaged through the surprisingly barren drawers, searching for anything to make sure Lilly's wish for Omelets was fulfilled. "We have pepperoni and cheese, though."

"Alrighty!" As Clyde brought over the ingredients, Lilly separated the egg mix into two bowls, beating the yolks with the whisk. "Uncle Fishy, you better take pictures!"

"Of course I will!" Clyde mocked a hurt expression, placing a hand over his chest to add to the drama, "You doubt one of the best marine photographers in the fleet?"

Lillyanne showed her tongue to the blonde, continuing her egg mixing. "I hope you get the whale out."

Clyde cracked a soft smile, nodding, "As do I, my Lilly. As do I..."

Hey Cuttlefish,

Thanks for applying to XMR! I have some edits for you so bear with me and if you get stuck, please contact me or another member of staff at any stage.

1. Little nitpick but he wouldn’t be 32 just yet. Always pay the little things attention as it helps you keep a keen eye in general.

2. Is Lillyanne going to be a constant NPC for him? It’s not necessarily a problem as long as you don’t hang the character on her/make her a constant aspect to the point she’s basically a second character you’re posting under Clyde’s name. Of course if you want to eventually play her, that can be discussed, but until then just make sure she only shows up now and then.

3. The powers are different, but somewhat limited. As in, you’re going to only be able to have him involved in fights/situations where there is water and its not always going to be the case that we can facilitate that just for him. But that’s where you have to be careful. What about a jug of water on a lunch table? A puddle on the ground? Is it just touch based? Be way more specific about the ‘presence of water’ and if its water being there or him touching it etc, that makes him change, as technically humans are predominantly made up of water anyway.

Beyond that, how long can he change form for? What exactly can he do on land if he sort of lumbers like a walrus? Again, specifics help so we can understand better. It’s a decent start but you need some fleshing.

4. History -

The early history isn’t bad, but its when you get to the situation that Lillyanne was found in. Of course not all adoptions work out, but why was this one so especially bad? Stringent checks are usually made about a family’s suitability to take in a child as it isn’t like taking a puppy home from the shelter. I’m not going to make it a mandatory change, but think if this drama aspect is really necessary. After all, his sister dies anyway so why can’t he have taken guardianship of his niece then?

Apocalypse - I don’t think you really understand the Apocalypse plot. There would have been a lot of initial panic, but the events only lasted for one week. Some areas suffered longer than others in the aftermath, but zombies weren’t taking over the world or anything like that. War’s converts (who were not zombies) were down in the NYC area.

Also, if he was swimming with Lilly on his head, how did she cope with the cold/wet? She’d likely have died from hypothermia.

There are workable aspects in this area of the history but you need to try and think a little closer in terms of the plot. If you don’t understand the plot, just ask staff (specific questions help) and we’ll explain things.

Skrulls - I’m not really clear on this section either. People knew about the Invasion as the Skrulls announced themselves to the world before the complacency wave was activated, meaning people were aware. If you could simply word the section a little better as right now it reads like his memory was tampered with and that is where the confusion comes from.

Illuminati - The first attack was actually at midnight on New Years Eve, so I don’t think he was teaching at that moment. But, it would be a good attack to place him at as the event occurred in the harbour.

Why did Ava want to go to Maine? Be careful about tossing in too many random details like this. It’s not a bad way to approach the history but if something is done, it needs to be for a reason.

You’ve done a very careful job about trying to detail as much as possible and thats good, especially as you haven’t had as much chance to connect with plots like the Purifiers etc. But just bear in mind what I have said about things need to happen for a reason, as there are moments here and there where you seem to toss in things without need. But again, its a good start so don’t worry too much.

Mostly I want you to work on the powers and the Apocalypse section as well as tidying the other areas of the history. For reference, it will also be much easier if you are playing him as already arrived at the school rather than needing recruiting as it will get you into play much faster.

Please respond when you’re done, thanks.

You still need to work on the Skrulls section, because that still doesn't make much sense despite what we talked about. Please go through the rest of the app and make sure everything else is fixed and I will check again. Thanks.

A note on the Skrulls: Why did Clyde snap out of it but not Lilly? The wave was broken for everyone at the same time. It's better, but you have a big gap of time that you don't really cover, so keep that in mind for the future.

Again, I'm going to ask that you don't lean too heavily on Lilly as a crutch for the character. Your sample leans a little too heavily on her, but as long as this won't be a regular in game occurrence, I won't make you change it.

There are some rough areas, but some of them are things you'll need to work out for yourself in game and learn as you go. Acknowledge you understand about the Skrulls and this should be fine.
