March 15th Noon Beautiful, sunny days: who didn’t love them? This was the kind of weather that Jubilation had been waiting on for quite some time. She never had been one for the winter months which made her birthday being in December a drag. The cold was not her friend in any shape, form, or fashion. The woman had grown up in the beautiful state of California where the sun was damn near always shining. New York was another beast during the winter. Bone-chilling cold and snow several inches thick was the norm. Now that all of that was over and done with she could bust out her skateboard and hit up the city for the much needed relaxation. Lately life had been stressful for her, for everyone that wore an X really. There had been so much going on that it was a wonder how any of them stayed sane through it all. Jubilation pushed along the sidewalk of the streets of New York, headphones firmly over her ears blasting some loud and upbeat music. Without a case to be had, at least for the moment, she had time to do something that always made her happy and didn’t involve risking her life. Well that was kind of arguable. Ask anyone over the age of 28 and they’d say that skateboarding was a dangerous sport that could get one killed. There was an inherent danger to speeding down the street through traffic, jumping down stairs and off of other high places on a piece of wood. But she loved it regardless. She turned into an alley that thankfully had smooth pavement. She kickflipped over a used tire lying smack in the middle of said alley. The sound of the board tail snapping against concrete was such a sweet sound, even audible over the snares and quick lyrics blaring into her ears. She landed with ease and continued on until she reached a small delicatessen. Having skipped breakfast and been out on the streets for the past two hours, her stomach made it a point to let her know just how it was feeling. “Alright, you win,” she said to it. Jubilation hopped off her board and headed on inside to grab something to eat. |

Ev was out of the mansion with several others for the day to help out the homeless in Mutant Town. For now though she was off on her own. She didn't get out and about in the city very often, and it was even more rare for her to go off on her own. It seemed like a nice opportunity to have a little time to herself, for herself. Even if it was just a nice lunch. It was gorgeous out and a perfect day to enjoy the city, as much as she could enjoy a city. It really wasn't her type of environment but she was willing to look past that once in a while. There were a lot of great places to eat in New York City but she ended up going to a deli that had caught her eye during her last visit with Nori. Things had gotten out of hand that day and she'd ended up forgetting about it until this latest trip was brought up. She was glad that she remembered it, and not just because it had just what she needed to fuel her for a long day in the big apple. Nah, she was glad because after she placed her order, a strikingly familiar person came inside. It took Evelyn a few moments to remember the name that went with the face, but at least she didn't have to think hard about how she knew her. Most of the people she knew was from Xaviers' or met through someone else from Xaviers'. "Jubilee?" she asked, just because she had to be absolutely sure before making a big fuss and finding out she was wrong. |

If there was one thing that she loved about New York other than its many places to skate it was the variety of food. Pizza joints galore, sub shops, and Asian cuisine could be found everywhere. As she entered the building Jubilation lowered her headphones around her neck and looked toward the menu position up over the clerk’s head. She was already loving the variety of meats and sides and everything else that they had to offer. She placed a hand on her stomach and smiled, thinking about what kind of ridiculous sandwich she was going to have them string together. The woman was a small fry compared to many, but she could put down a lot of food. It was like her stomach was elastic or something. Before she could make a decision on what to get, a voice called out her name. Not her name, but her codename and in a quizzical tone. Jubilation looked to the woman with the curly hair. There was a familiarity to her and obviously she knew of her. She took a step closer, her eyes thoroughly scrutinizing the person before her. And then it hit her. “Evvy?” Yea that was totally Evvy. “Holy crap it’s been a long time since I last saw you.” Jubilation stepped closer and was about to give a friendly hug, but she remembered what she’d been doing for the past few hours and sweat that covered her shirt. “I would hug you, but I smell like a rented mule right now.” She grinned. “Man, isn’t it something running into each other after all this time. How long has it been?” The last time she had seen Evvy was at the Xavier Institute when she was still a student on her way out the door. That was… a couple of years ago. The two of them weren’t exactly chummy back then, but they hung out every now and again. Seeing Evvy was starting to make her want to visit the mansion. It’d been far too long since the last time she had seen the place. It was probably teeming with new faces. Hopefully most of the old heads were still around. |

Evelyn grinned right back at Jubilation. It was really good to see her. There were so many people from back then that were no where to be found. She worried about what might have happened to them, sometimes. If she'd ever see them again. If they'd even survived the past few years. "I don't even know, maybe five years? Give or take. And don't worry about that. I'm just going to be washing dogs after this and who knows when we're going to see each other again." "I just came back to the area back in September. I'm back at school, actually. Studying pre-med, mostly. Its intense... so its really nice to get out and give it a break today," she added, before her sandwich was finished and she had to stop a moment and accept it from the woman at the counter. "Oooh yum," she exclaimed. Pastrami with just about everything else she could pile on it, on fresh baked bread. So good. "Want to get yours? I'll grab a table," she asked, realizing Jubes hadn't gotten her lunch yet. And Evvy was eager to devour hers. It looked delicious, it smelled great, and it made her all too aware of how long it had been since breakfast. She was so glad she'd decided to come here. The food looked fantastic, and she'd managed to run into an old friend. So worth the trek from Mutant Town. |

Five years? Time really had a way of flying by when the world was constantly in threat of being destroyed by maniacs or taken over by egotistical jackhammers. Since she first joined up with X-Factor way back when, Jubilation’s life had been anything but normal. She once wanted to live the life of an ordinary person, but fate had a way of royally screwing up plans like that. Any hope of ever living a conflict free existence should just be eradicated immediately. That way things would be simple. She would wake up expecting something to be horribly wrong with the world and pleasantly surprised when the biggest worry of the day was a small time no name that the cops could semi-handle. She figured the same was for Evvy since the woman was back at Xavier’s now. No one escaped the life for long. “Heh, you picked a heck of a time to come back, but I’m glad you did. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate now.” Before the conversation went any further the woman behind the counter presented Evvy with her sandwich which reminded Jubilation that she hadn’t placed an order yet. “Ah yes, yes that would be excellent,” she said to Evvy then turend to face the clerk. “What will you be having, ma’am?” the woman asked. Jubilation took one quick look at the menu. “The meatball sub topped with parmesan, Monterey, and cheddar cheese please. Oh and a couple of lemon peppers.” She could already taste the meaty, cheesy, spicy goodness and her stomach was getting a little more anxious. The aromas of the place had her stomach bubbling with excitement… or was that something else? Nah it was definitely excitement. She leaned against the counter to watch the lady go about throwing together what was sure to be the best damn sandwich that she’d eat all week. Once done, the paid the woman, grabbed the sub, and headed over to the table where Evvy was. “You smell that?” she asked with a grin. “That’s the smell of greatness.” She took a moment of appreciation before unwrapping it. “So, how is everyone at Xavier’s? It’s been too long since the last time I visited for other than end-of-the-world reasons.” |

"Oh that smells delicious. I think I'm gonna have to come back here next time I'm in the city," Evvy said, eyeing Jube's food before returning her attention to her own, very tasty, sub. "Well I spend most of my time down," she stopped herself from mentioning the sub-basement in any detail in public, just barely "- with Avery and Doctor McCoy. People probably've forgotten I'm even there." "I've been studying a shit ton. Hopefully some of it'll stick and they'll have another hand. Like, I'm at least nurse material. Uhm. Kimmy's around doing her thing. Not many of my old friends, really, but Artyom's come back over the winter. So that's been cool," she said with a half smile. She wasn't sure if Jubilation knew him very well, he'd kept to the background back then. Just like her. One of the reasons she'd gravitated to him when she was a kid, loud people had made her nervous. Luckily she'd gotten over that a while back. "A bunch of us are out today, actually. Doing a charity thing. Washing dogs and stuff. Its gonna be a mess but they definitely need it..." she said, trying to think whether anyone there was someone Jubes knew. Probably not. She wasn't very well acquainted with them at least. "What have you been up to?" |

Jubilation perked up at the mention of Kimmy. Artyom she didn’t really remember, however. Back in the bay the two of them had been inseparable. With similar personalities and whatnot it was obvious why they had been drawn together in the first place upon her arrival. These days the friendship that they possessed was lacking big time. It may as well have been nonexistent now, mostly because of Jubilation’s lack of being around. She could have called the woman up a thousand times to hang out when the world wasn’t falling down around their ears, but she didn’t. Of course the same could be said for Kimmy since no one person should be responsible for establishing contact in a relationship. Both parties needed to step up for things to work. Maybe once this was over she would reconnect with her and well pretty much everyone else. She smiled when Evvy told her about the dog washing. “Hehe so that’s what that smell is,” she said jokingly. After taking a big bite of her sandwich and swallowing it down she thought about what her life had been like recently. “Me? Well mostly I’ve been working. I’m a private investigator now if you can believe that. The mallrat from Beverly Hills, solving crimes and doing it in style.” She chuckled. “It’s a good thing that I already had the trench coat.” Jubilation was about to tell her about the new show that XFI was a part of, but things outside got real loud real quick. There was a flash of light followed by the sound of people yelling. A young boy, no older than 11 years old, was standing in the middle of the sidewalk staring at his hands. They crackled with electricity, frightening him and those around. A man lay on the ground, motionless. The front of his shirt had been singed from the sudden blast he took. He was alive thankfully, but that really didn’t matter to the terrified crowd. The boy looked up to his mother. “M-mom. What’s happening to me?” Another blast of electricity surged from his body, causing several street lamps to overload and burst. “Holy cow! Did you see that?!” Jubilation stared at Evvy with concern. “Come on we have to get out there.” She dropped her sub and bolted for the exit. Once she made it outside she saw the young boy standing next to his mother who was trying to keep him calm. More importantly she looked to the few civilians that had more than just fear on their faces. They were angry. Angry crowd plus mutant never equaled anything good. And today had been going so well. |

Ev stuck her tongue out when Jubes joked about her smelling. She probably did smell like wet dog, but she cleaned up before going out to eat. Otherwise she'd have been unable to stomach eating. Even if there wasn't the smell, just knowing - she couldn't do that. "Really, a private investigator?" she said, not quite in disbelief - more like she was impressed. Evvy was doing her own thing, and she was proud of that. She was glad that her friend had something good going for her too. She was about to say something about that when the noise started outside. She looked out the window, reminded of the last time she visited NYC. This was different though. Not some villains to be defeated. There was a confused, scared kid, and an increasingly angry crowd. Jubilation didn't have to tell her twice. "Yeah," she replied, staring at the scene a moment before running after the investigator. The kid's powers were still acting up, the mom wasn't freaking out, the crowd looked like it was going to get dangerous soon. "Hey kid, its gonna be okay, alright?" she told the boy and smiled at his fretful mother. "He's gonna be okay. I can help him," she added, not adding that she was still a medical student. She'd taken care of similar injuries in extremely realistic simulations. To the crowd, she added in a louder voice, "I know first aid, I can stabilize him, but could someone call an ambulance?" She had an uneasy feeling that the crowd wouldn't give a shit about the man they were getting riled up over getting hurt. People were strange like that. Hopefully someone would keep their head though. She was afraid she wouldn't be able to focus on the injured man if the two of them had to deal with crowd control. |

Jubilations eyes came to rest on the guy laid out on the sidewalk as they made it outside. Evvy made it clear to the crowd that she could offer him some level of help, but people with the right equipment were needed. The crowd was rowdy, and it seemed like no one was reaching for their cell phone. Jubilation grunted. “You heard the woman, dial nine-one-one! Somebody now!” Thankfully this time someone sprang into action. Jubilation hoped that the man’s condition would not get any worse because the last thing needed was him dying at the hands of a mutant, even though it was purely accidental. The world didn’t like their kind and probably never would, not as a whole. Recent events hadn’t made acceptance any easier. She turned to face the child that was trying his best to keep calm, but the daunting crowd was scary. That poor kid was going through some incredible and scary. Jubilation knew exactly how he felt. When her powers first manifested she put two police officers in the hospital. The burning of the plasma energy made it feel like her hands were on fire. For awhile she hated being a mutant, hated being even more of an outcast than a mallrat already was. But with time and meeting others like her she grew to accept being one. It would be a lie to say that it wasn’t still hard. “Monster!” someone shouted. “Get that mutie freak!” Jubilation snapped around. “Whoa whoa whoa! Nobody’s gonna be getting anyone around here, so just calm your butts down.” She hated this so much. Mob mentality was a disease. It never ended well unless a very heavy hand came down. “What are you a mutant lover?” a bald guy with too many chins asked. “Yea, I am. As a matter of fact I’m a mutant too.” She couldn’t help herself. When ignorant people started spouting out ignorant comments it annoyed her like nothing else. Jubilation stood between the crowd and the others. The young boy was terrified of what the crowd was going to do to him if they got their hands on him, and it was perfectly clear. The air around him snapped and crackled with energy. His mother jumped back when a stray jolt shocked her hand. “Terry, look at me. Just calm down,” she pleaded. Another jolt lashed out and struck a vehicle, causing the alarm to go into overdrive before burning out. One of the men in the crowd pushed his way to the front and came face to face with Jubilation. He was easily six foot one. “You mutants are nothing but trouble. You should all be put in a camp somewhere to die.” “Well aren’t you just Mr. Sunshine,” she said. “Back the hell off, you racist sack of dog crap.” Jubilation knew that stooping to their level wasn’t the best of ideas, but she was so irked. |

"He's going to be alright," she said loudly, to the world at large. She was pretty damn certain of that. He'd gotten a shock to the system but the man's condition was stable and would likely remain that way. Unless something else happened or he went into shock. His breathing was regular and his pulse steady. Evvy took her jacket off and covered him with it. Her nerves were fraying at the imminent confrontation, as people said nasty things and a large man pushed himself to the forefront of the crowd and said something even more unpleasant. "Really?" she said, getting to her feet. She didn't take her eyes off of the large man as she stood, expression tightly controlled. She didn't want to let the world know just how angry she was - or how worried. "Camps?" she repeated with derision as sharp as her eyeliner. "That's been done before. The people who condone things like that are the real monsters. Not being born different. The hell are we supposed to do about that?" The question was of course rhetorical. The man wanted them to go off somewhere and die. She didn't want to talk to him. She wanted to diffuse the situation but she doubted it would be that easy if someone forced a confrontation. "Do you actually plan on hitting one of us? Because big strong guys who like to hit women and children are pretty monstrous as well." The two of them were pretty tiny compared to the large man. She was the shortest of all of them, besides the kid, and there she was lecturing the big man, her arms folded. She didn't think for a moment it would sway HIM but she hoped the crowd around them were listening. Maybe they wouldn't try to stop him from attacking them, but they might not all join him if she managed to wake some of them from the mob mentality. |

She could see that her accurate comparison had gotten under the angry man’s skin. But what got to him more were the words leaving Evvy’s mouth. Everything she said was true. People that put others in isolation just because they were born different were the lowest form of scum, human or otherwise. Throughout history difference in pretty much anything meant persecution, something that she would never come to understand. Mutants just happened to be the flavor of the century now. Jubilation stood next to Evvy and locked eyes with the aggressive jackass almost taunting him to act on his foolish sentiments. The little boy was huddled close to his mother, both frightened of what could happen next. Thankfully some of the people in the crowd weren’t as filled with hate and prejudice as this guy. They began to disperse with mumbles and death glares. Their opinions on mutants wouldn’t be changed by only a couple of words. It was going to take a lot of therapy and time to fix what was wrong with them. It wasn’t like mutants hadn’t saved their butts a thousand times over. Then again a lot of those times their lives had been put in danger because of mutants, but that was just a minority. Every group of people had its jackasses, mutants were no exception. Jubilation was relieved, but big guy and few others stood their ground refusing to leave in peace. It was times like this that she wished she had a badge to flash them, but that all went away when X-Factor split from SHIELD, and then became two different groups. “Just turn around and go on about your business, pal. No one else needs to get hurt today.” “I disagree.” A hand grabbed the big man by his shoulder and spun him around. His face came colliding with a fist, breaking his nose into a bloody mess. Jubilation cringed and jaw dropped. “Dude! What the hell are you doing?!” she shouted. The man responsible for the assault looked at her and Evvy with eyes that shined like sunlight. He too was a mutant. “I’m sick of people like this guy. He needs to be taught a lesson.” The mutant grabbed the man by the front of his shirt then proceeded to launch him into the side of a public mailbox. This was the last thing that they needed: another mutant assaulting a bunch of humans. Jubilation was pissed off for so many reasons right now. Honestly she wanted to sock the guy one too, but showed restraint for the sake of their kind. This was not going to end well for anyone. |

Evelyn wasn't just angry, she was frightened by how easily the words came out of the man's mouth, and how no one spoke up about it. Not just by the prospect of history repeating itself, but because it echoed what she'd recently heard from Franklin about the future he'd come from. Where mutants had been put into camps. Anger and fear, not of this man, but of humanity in its entirety, and what it was capable of. Even if it wasn't their future anymore, it wasn't just some idea, it was something that would have happened. But how could she express that without sounding out of her mind? Even to Jubilee - did she even know about that averted timeline? She was wasn't able to put anything into words, and she was glad that Jubilation was more than willing to speak up. And that as angry as that man was, he had stopped to listen, just for a few moments. That the crowd was dispersing for the most part. That it hadn't exploded into violence. Until it did, and blood splattered across the man's face. "What the fuck?" she exclaimed, momentarily forgetting she didn't want to swear in front of children. The furious mutant that had stepped in had taken things from bad to worse without any thought of the consequences. "You can't just punch everyone who makes you mad, grow the fuck up," she began, just before he tossed the large human into a mailbox. And it didn't look like he was done either. "Just stop it," she told him. There were several people on their phones now. Another had their phone out recording the scene. She tried to ignore them. "I get it, I'm mad too-" He was ignoring her and going for the man again. Fuck. She put her hands on her hips, and looked to Jubilee. It was time to intervene. She just hoped it didn't get out of control. "I'm going to tell you one last time-" she warned him, even as she did so, she reached out with her powers to feel what she had to work with. Just what she had in her sleeves, and a few weeds. It'd have to do. |

Unfortunately Evvy’s command for him to stop went unheard. The young mutant was too angry to listen to a word that she or anyone else had to say. It was clear that his life must have been filled with pain and torment caused by human beings. If it had not been for his current actions then Jubilation could have sympathized with him. Honestly, she still kind of did, but this was not the way to go about handling things. Her life had been filled with torment as well, but she didn’t take all of that anger out on people no matter how much they deserved it. A mutant beating on a bunch of humans, even if said humans intended to do the same to another mutant, was going to make the news in every negative way possible. She noticed that people had their phones out to record now. That really agitated her. Where was all this recording when the humans were the ones about to mob on a young child and his mother? It was so biased that it hurt. Jubilation looked to Evvy before tipping her ever-present shades down over her eyes. There was no way she was going to let all of this get onto the internet for millions of people to see, millions of potential racists on both sides of the conflict. They needed anything to kick the sparks up into a full blown wildfire. She turned around to address the boy and his mother. “You two find somewhere to hide. We’ll handle this.” The pair nodded and rushed off to stay out of sight. Jubilation then spun around and simultaneously sent out several thin streams of energy. Each one collided with a recording cell phone that caused them to explode. No harm was down to the owners, but the phones were good for nothing but scrap now. It was an extreme measure, but one she had to take to keep this from going viral. “Everyone stay back for your own safety!” Minimizing the crowd would hopefully minimize injuries. The mutant assaulting the aggressive human turned around just as one of the others attempted to grab hold of him. He got a gut full of fist for it. Without really thinking it through Jubilation rushed toward her fellow mutant with every intention to kick him square in the jaw. It was obvious that words weren’t going to calm him down. Maybe a concussion would. |
