Immediately after The Future Starts Today, Not Tomorrow Oh crap he had really done it this time. Laura was down, after having been trigger scented by his young cousins, Alex and Johnny was here - all people that Billy either loved, respected, or both and here he was being underhanded. Something that Billy did not excel at, he rarely lied, he rarely kept secrets, it was simply not part of his personality, he was an honest individual and preferred people being honest with him as well. Now though, he had to lie, the truth would bring untold damage to this time and future timelines, something that Billy knew was not an acceptable loss. So he would have to lie to his uncle and his team mates and hope that they accepted that there were times when you had to lie to protect the people that you loved. Believing that there was no imminent risk to himself, the blue hued aura of his powers faded and his feet lightly touched back down on the ground of the warehouse. The portal that his cousins, and family members had disappeared through was gone - hopefully they were all safe on the other side of the portal and Billy would catch up with them as soon as he was able to. First of all he had to make sure that Uncle Alex and his team were not going to be pursuing his son, and his nieces and nephews to the end of the earth, because they were terrorists. Hopefully the fact that Billy was not the one that would run off to live in Sanctuary, he didn't do things to get himself into trouble often - and if he did, he usually had a very good reason for doing it and hopefully Alex would remember that. "Alex I can explain." Billy's hands raised slightly in the air to show that he wasn't attempting to do anything or going to do anything. "But I need you to trust me, those people." That was all Billy could trust himself to refer to them as, he didn't want his uncle getting any whiff that one of them was his son, and the rest were all the sons and daughters of other friends or family. "They aren't the bad guys that you think they are. I'm not a bad guy either." His tone wasn't quite pleading, but he was hoping that his appeals could reach his uncle, though he knew that he was like his mother in many ways that he hadn't quite resolved with himself yet. He could be whimsical, and he often twisted and turned in directions that his mood took him, but he stayed on what he believed was the right path, like her. |

Superheated Plasma Blasts

Bill landed, once the fighting was over and Laura was down. Jon was tending to her. It was his job... no, not his job, it was his responsibility. Everyone in X-Factor understood more than most other super hero teams about what it was like to be turned into something, to be made to do things that were abhorrent. That's why they were together, because they understood, and they didn't judge. Laura would not be shunned for trying to murder them. It wasn't her fault, and no harm was meant when they took her down. It was as quick as it could be, it was as painless as it could be, and it was done more because they cared about Laura than they were scared she would kill them. If they were scared of that, she wouldn't be with them. As soon as Billy's feet hit the ground, Alex was rounding on him, stomping through the ash of the plants that had activated Laura's trigger scenting, so hot and so fully charged because of the attack on him by this Seebeck, that the heat was pouring off him, and he was angry enough that he was not making a great deal of effort to call his powers back. "Talk, Kaplan," he ordered, "Now. Give me a reason not to drag you to SHIELD... or worse, to your mother." "Alex I can explain." Billy's hands raised slightly in the air. "But I need you to trust me, those people. They aren't the bad guys that you think they are. I'm not a bad guy either." "Well, let's see here," Alex said, his voice dripping with sarcastic ichor, "these 'not bad guys' just unleashed Laura's inner berserker and tried to kill us all, so forgive me if I'm not feeling all that generous towards them." He looked around at the others and said, "And, let me run a couple of deductions I've made about them on my own, and you call tell me how close I am." Drumming his fingers on his chest monitor, he said, "This Seebeck, who incidentally registers on Stark's scans as having DNA connected to the Summers line as well as the House of M, blasts me with a thermomagnetic blast of heat that instead of harming me, charged me the way that only ever happens with people I'm related to. Couple that with the fact that he was called Nate, which happens to be the name of my only son, and that at least two of his companions had the unusual skin color of one of my friends and the speed of another of my friends, whose wedding I'm incidentally going to be attending in a couple months, I am going to take a stab in the darkness that there's time travel involved. Seebeck is my son, come back here, for a reason that makes terrorism seem like a good idea. How am I doing so far? I might not be as great a leader as Scott, but frankly, I'm a lot better educated than he is, so I know how to put two and two together." Folding his arms over his chest, he said, "Talk, now. Why are they here? What do they have against Stark's satellite? What does it do? How does it go wrong?" He didn't ask if what his son was doing had a good reason or not. He would not believe that a child raised by he and Lorna in the shadow of the X-Men would grow up to be a terrorist for the love of chaos. He refused to believe that his son would become a villain. But at the moment, it was pretty hard to think of him as a hero. |

Lorna walked over to where Laura was recovering and took a knee next to her teammate, as Billy and Alex closed in on each other. Though Alex looked to be fuming, she knew that he hadn't lost it enough to go off on Billy before words were exchanged. So part of her listened in on them as they began to speak, while the rest of her focused on X-23. Once Laura was taken down as gently as possible, Lorna couldn't help but to think about how young Laura looked as she laid there on the floor attempting to recover from the trigger scent. And though she knew Laura would probably like to be left alone, Lorna wanted to be near her so that Laura knew that she had friends that cared and loved her. So while still giving Laura some space as she knelt next to her, Lorna turned her head slightly so that she could listen in on what Alex was saying. He was relaying what he saw back to Billy. The information he had gathered. The powers that were ineffective against him. But most of all, that person in question was named Nate. Many thoughts flooded her mind that were similar to what was going through Alex's. Time travel. Her son. There was no way he had grown up to be a monster of come kind. He was such a sweet little boy. And with his father and his family, there was no way that he could have grown up to be something like that. Not to mention that she would whip his rear-end if it was true. “Billy,” Lorna said, looking towards her husband and nephew. “I love you, but you had better get to explaining yourself pretty quick. If what Alex says is true, then I really don't want to keep dancing around this. Tell us the truth, now.” |

Will got up from his spot a little disoriented. Well that went well. He took a second to catch his breath. Then he remembered: Laura. The redhead walked up to Lorna, who was tending to a subdued X-23. He watched his fallen teammate intently. His heart rate skipped a beat and he wet his lips, "Anything I can do to help?" His intent watching turned to studious examination. His heart pumped faster and faster. He was looking for anything; a cut, a bruise. Anything that could have caused it. The examination turned to fierce investigation, relying less and less on what he knew and more of what his instincts were telling him. STOP it, he told himself. His heart rate increased. His adrenaline was pumping. He shook his head, "Stop it." he muttered under his breath, hoping Lorna didn't think he was talking to her. He wasn't panicking, or overreacting. His...body, or whatever you wanted to call it was reacting to the sight of danger. He hated it sometimes. It never came with an emotional side, but was always instinctual. He worried for his teammate. He worried for his friend. He found himself walking to Havok and the kid...who really wasn't a kid it turned out, more of just a guy barely younger than himself. He didn't care who Billy was. He didn't care how he was involved. He wasn't going to reprimand him, that was obviously Bossman's job. He didn't even care who their oppenents were. All he wanted to know was how to catch them. "Any leads on where they went?" he asked not really anyone in particular, just the three present, besides himself. He found himself gazing around to find if that wierd portal thing left behind any trace of energy, or pixie dust, or whatnot, before eventually turning back to X-23 to see how she was doing. |

Joint Post X-23/Volt/Havok The shadow of the trigger scent had rolled away, perhaps taking a little longer as it was not true trigger scent, but more of a very clever reproduction. That in itself was disorientating the feral clone. Later, she would ask Jon or perhaps even Alex to fill in the gaps. Memory loss was one of the worst things about the trigger; she could remember everything up until the red mist that fell over her like a veil, but after that until the breaking of it? No. That was something that was lost to her, such a short amount of time as it was. Sitting up, X-23 looked to Lorna who had joined them and she nodded her dark head before looking away. The gesture was appreciated however. A lot of her life had been spent alone, even when she was within the Facility. Watched, regulated, manipulated, but alone. It made the concept of being cared for very alien, but she had slowly gotten used to it, even if she could not always reciprocate the sentiments shared. Her team knew that she did and that was what was important. They understood that she was grateful, that she cared back in her own way, but often it just did not appear as if she did. Jon looked up from where he was crouched beside Laura who was his sister in more ways than just being mutants, just being teammates, just being friends. They were very much alike, cloned killers, abused and forced into unnatural shapes, but Jon had had the benefit of the memories of his donor, a hero, and not just a hero, but an X-Man, a goofball, and a genuinely good guy. Laura had no such memories, and her donor... he was none of the things that Jon Harper was, except for the X they wore. Lorna crouched on Laura's other side, as the girl sat up, and their bossman's bosslady demanded the same answers as her husband. Was that kid Nate? Was that really the grown up version of the toddler they had left back at home with the sitter? Could he really grown up to be a villain? A terrorist? No, something was up, and Billy knew what it was. Jon didn't touch Laura as she found herself again, remembering how it was. 26 had not been seen in a long time, but he knew what it was like to fall to it, and it was a nightmare. He didn't leave her side though. He would never leave it. "You back with us, Little Sister?" he asked, softly, the nickname one of fondness, not to diminue. The air was thick with the ash of those planets, and soaked with the wet of the rain that Billy had called down to wash it clean. None of that mattered. Only Laura did. Inhaling, the damp ash stuck in the back of her throat and she held her breath, still as a statue, as she looked to the others from X-Factor and then to Billy as the questions were asked of him. Laura nodded then, looking back to Jon with her feral green eyes. “Yes. I am myself once more. I just hope that they do not try the same trick twice. There is no way to stop the trigger other than to get rid of it.” This, Jonny already knew, it was how they had managed to stop her in the first place. She did not take it personally, the stopping. X-23 was just glad that no one had gotten hurt. “What now?” she lifted her head up, her voice low but strong enough to resonate around the group. "Now," Alex said, his angry blue eyes never leaving Billy's frightened and desperate face, "we are going to hear the story of why Billy is hanging around with my son and his time traveling band of little assholes, and what their connection is with Stark's amazing satellite of plenty, or I am bringing in the big guns and calling Billy's mother to come in here and get to the bottom of this. Is that one hundred percent crystal clear, Wiccan, or do you have any doubts about just how pissed off I am right now? Because I can make it more evident if you want me to, and I promise you... you do not want me to." |

No, no, no they already knew too much and Wiccan didn't want to put them at risk any more than he had to. There were reasons why he didn't go spilling his guts about who they were and why they were here. They already knew that Seebeck was Alex and Lorna's son so what was the harm? It was evident that there wasn't a time paradox here and his uncle and aunt had not been eaten alive by it. "You do not need to bring mom, or SHIELD into this at all." Billy's eyes rose from the floor to cast an apologetic look at Laura before looking back to Alex. "Yes Seebeck is who you think he is, and no I didn't ask them to do that to you Laura." Billy frowned as he spoke to her directly rather than his uncle and aunt for the time being. Though his eyes swiftly shifted back to them. "It was me that sent them back here, or at least the future me that sent them back here." Billy began to explain. "Stark's satellite is going to go rogue and cause chaos, which is why they came back here to stop it from being made and to change the future they came from." Which yes, did sound crazy, and all sorts of dangerous. Billy was well aware of the fact that if they rewrote the history for then, there was a chance that it was going to be replaced with something that was far, but given what had been done to Billy's cousin in that time, it was a risk that was worth taking. "The satellite is bad for everyone, not just mutants. It's going to cause whole cities to go off the map. It's also going to bring harm to our family, family members that don't exist in this time yet, so it needs to be stopped." Billy wasn't sure his story was being bought, perhaps it would have been easier if Mom was here, then he could get her to confirm what it was that he was saying. "They are struggling here, they just came and got me from Doctor Strange's to help them out, and yes I agree to help them Alex, I'm sorry about what they did Laura and I wish they hadn't, but aren't we fighting for a better future? Not one that is destined to constantly be fighting the same darkness over and over again." Billy's eyes dropped again to the puddles of water that had formed after Billy had washed away the trigger scent. "You know I wouldn't touch time travel with a ten foot barge pole, I have to trust that future me is the same way, so that there really was no other choice but for them to come here." |
