Date: 20'th april Time: 14:00 The New Yorker Hotel on 8'th avenue had undergone a complete makeover in it's usual patrons on this sunny sunday, there were next to no business men and women on important business, with important briefcases and important papers in those important briefcases. No, today the semi-fancy hotel was filled to the brim with butterfly and white socks in brown shoes wearing, bespectacled people, all with the newest of the new in tech clutched in their hands. And Alexander Mackenzie, in his oil greased green t-shirt (it was the damn cleanest thing he owned at the moment, other than his work uniform) and holed wall-mart jeans, had never felt so out of place. He stuck out like a dirty mechanic at a techie-convention. Which was exactly what he was. After looking around for a bar at the convention, something that served alcohol, he gave up and sat down at one of the tables. There were booths with technological thingymagics everywhere and as a technopath he should feel right at home, but none of the stuff here was the kind of stuff he could connect to. All of the things felt foreign and, well, weird to him. It was like his bosses had dumped him in the middle of India and just expected that the proximity to a foreign people who spoke in a different tongue would make him magically be able to talk to them. Because when Alex did try to reach out to other tech than cars, it just wasn't on the same.. wavelength as him. The man sighed in frustration and sprawled on his chair, he couldn't even really blame his bosses for trying. There was really no reason why his brain shouldn't be able to connect to other stuff than that with four-wheels. Plus he had said yes to going, he could've just told them no. Compared to The Purple Skulls, The Hellfire Club was winning the prize for employers of the year to Alex. And they had good dental. |

Really, a tech convention was probably the most clichéd place in the world for Sarah Vale to be. It hadn’t even been a question of going – the question was parking. She’d had a hell of a time making it into the city, and she’d parked a decent ways from the hotel holding the convention, but she didn’t mind. There were worse things than walking. She’d arrived early that morning, and was currently meandering through the stalls, pausing occasionally to look over a device, or joke with a vendor. Other than the occasional surprised look at her, she received little attention. Dark jeans clung to her legs, a dark purple, sleeveless blouse with a cowl neck was comfortable, the lack of sleeves compensating for the warmer air in the building. Her dark hair was pulled into a loose side braid, and she’d slung a petite, black canvas back pack over her shoulders. Reaching one display, she tugged her phone out of her pocket, snapping a quick picture of something on the table. No one seemed to really notice if her finger didn’t quite tap the touch screen of the device, or that it seemed to turn the screen off without an obvious press of a button. But she was discreet in her use of her powers – no need to call attention to herself. The place was already like a carnival, especially for her. The technopath could feel the tug of every device in the hotel, tiny mechanical voices greeting her as she walked by or stopped for a look. It was a larger display, set near a group of tables, that caught her attention the longest. The cubicle area was filled with screens, the frame of a car, and finally the car itself. Drawn like a bee to a flower, she inched in, grinning as she saw the design specs on one of the display screens. Tesla, she knew that company. She’d test driven one of the Model S cars – smooth, fast, and with enough tech shoved into the front dash to make looking at the road a chore. But this was the new model, more SUV like in design, with winged doors and…Okay, it was the wing doors that got her. Fingers slipped across the screens, tapping and exploring the different designs and details about the vehicle. A fascinating concept, and she had to admit, it was a gorgeous ride. One of the representatives came up to her with a smile, and she grinned. “Can I help you with anything?” As if the screens and the car itself weren’t telling her everything she wanted to know. “Yeah, how’s the mileage per charge?” |

Being at that convention, with all the other technical crap that spoke a language Alex couldn't understand, must've clouded his reach because he had been there a good fifteen minutes before his brain caught a weak whisper of a language he could understand. And the more he focused on it, the stronger it became. A car. There most definitely was a car here. There was something sensible in this marked place of madness, a language he could understand in-between the gibberish. Before he knew it he was on his feet and zoning in on the signal. It was harder than it normally was and Alex suspected this was how telepaths felt when they were walking the street, expect they could of course understand what people were thinking - could telepaths understand thoughts in different languages? Maybe they saw images instead of actual spoken language? Anyway, Alex thought this might be similar to that. Trying to hone in on just one voice in thousands. On top of that, there were like fifty actual human beings talking around him. Someone was on a phone, talking, and that was really bugging him because both the phone and the man talking in it were talking. He tried to keep his face lax and nonchalant but really he looked about as tense as someone who had a few hundred bees buzzing around his head. And then he found it. She was beautiful. Immediately he knew why she hadn't called him to her the moment he stepped in, she was electrical. Not a drop of gasoline in her. He could still understand her, but it was like she was speaking to him in a really weird accent - like a Welsh person trying to speak to an American. Plus, she wasn't as loud as a normal car, more understated and elegant. Maybe a bit above him. A classy lady. She had two motors, one for the front and the other for the rear wheels, near as he could tell and could probably go from 0 to 60 mph, in about 5 seconds. At least that was his estimate.
"Probably about 300 miles, with the battery that's in now." Alex answered off-handedly, having overheard the question without fully registering that it wasn't him the female voice had asked. He tore his eyes away from the car to look at whoever had asked and was a little stumped to find a petite brunette girl, who looked nothing like the very limited amount of girls he knew that had any interest in cars. "I mean, I think." He added quickly, because the man running the booth was looking weirdly at him. "Yes, 306 to be exact." corrected man-in-booth and smiled at the petite brunette. Geez dude, she's more interested in the car than you. At least that was what it looked like to Alex and he barely resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the man. |

Living in the mansion gave Sarah an edge with her powers – she was quite used to hearing both the constant hum of human activity, as well as the chatter of the technology around her. It had been harder when she was still learning control, trying to dim the technological voices around her while in class, listening to a lecture or a lesson. Now, it was practically second nature. In this particular case, most of the human voices around her were tuned out, and she focused more on the gadgets around her. They were what she was here to see, after all. Nothing quite as advanced as some of her projects with Madison, but then, not everyone had access to their collective set of abilities. There was still plenty to catch her attention, not the least of which was the car she was still inspecting. The friendly smile on the representatives face didn’t falter when she asked her question, and she turned at the unexpected voice that answered. The rep looked a bit flustered at having been momentarily upstaged, and Sarah lifted a surprised brow at the rather sure tone of the stranger’s voice when he answered. He sounded like he knew – of course, Sarah already knew the answer, thanks to the car itself, not to mention the informational screens – but they didn’t know that. The poor salesman tried to recover, smiling at her, and Sarah smiled back, sliding a look at the car again. “Impressive. About the same as the Model S Performance, 85kWh, yeah?” The question was rhetorical, and she circled the vehicle, grinning at the two men. “Same touch screen dash, Bluetooth and internet radio capable, USB drives, navigation system and web browsing capabilities as the Model S, I assume.” At this point, she might as well have been talking to herself, and the representative could only nod, looking at her with a rather startled look. Flashing the two men a rather teasing smile – God, she loved surprising people by being smarter than expected – she tugged at the door of the model, opening the wing with barely a touch. Sliding into the driver’s seat, the brunette shifted in place comfortably, fingers flying over the touch screen, flicking through the different screens and displays without hesitation. After a moment, she leaned over, peering up through the open passenger window at Alex. “Lemme guess – you’re a mechanic?” Sarah grinned, glancing at a small grease stain on his t-shirt, before popping the passenger door open for him. “Good call on the mileage – worked on this type of car before, or lucky guess?” |

There was nothing formal about the education Alex had received, he had barely even known about his powers till he was sixteen years old. Although he suspected they had kicked in much earlier - he had always been an excellent driver. Even before he had an official drivers license. The only kind of 'education' he had gotten was a mechanics one. He supposed that education was the only reason he could actually will cars around as easily as he could. But why was he standing around thinking about his educational stand? The man at the stand with the car was looking down his nose at him. That was why. Okay, so maybe in his greasy t-shirt and thread-bare jeans, he looked like someone who could never in a million years afford a car like this one. A look Alex knew all too well, being a trailer-park kid, and he didn't like it one bit. Choosing to turn his attention to the little lady, before he decked the snooty sales rep on the nose, he saw the petite brunette circling the car. He didn't know anything about the model she was referring to, as he never had much interest in electrical cars, but she sure knew a lot about it. Stepping up on the podium himself to take a closer look himself. His mouth looped upwards, impressed at the clearly superior knowledge she had about the cars different systems. "You sure know your cars." he noted, leaning against the car. "Sir-" The sales rep gestured towards his body leaning against the model car. "If I put one damn scratch on it, I'll buy the thing." Of course, he couldn't afford it, but still. The damn dude didn't know that. Judging people by their appearance! He could be as wealthy as Tony fucking Stark and he would've still dressed like this.
"Used to be." Alex answered, which was true. "Now I mostly tinker around when I feel like it." Sliding in on the passenger seat, Alex reached out with his mind, testing whether or not he could fully link with this electrical madame. His consciousness bleed through the car along with the wiring and while there were a couple of gadgets in here he probably wouldn't be able to take into the link he was pleased to find that he could still link with it. "Something like that." He said with a grin to her last question. "How 'bout you? How come you know so much 'bout this car? You should feel bad about that, by the way, the poor sales dude looked about ready to wet his pants when you started talkin' about the former model." |

The shock on the representative’s face when she started listing off facts, comparing the different models, was extremely entertaining. Which was, of course, what she expected. Turning away from him to the car was pretty much her way of dismissing him as utterly useless in regards to showing her anything she didn’t already know, and she situated herself in the car on the assumption that he would wander off to find someone else to educate. Grinning at Alex’s comment about knowing her cars, the brunette shrugged a single shoulder. “What, you mean I don’t look like a chick that’s into things like cars and gaming?” Sarah teased brightly, knowing full well that she didn’t fit the classic ideal. Fortunately, she lived to break such stereotypes. Rolling her eyes as the attendant glanced pointedly at Alex, obviously judging appearances, she decided to ignore the man until he left to help someone else. Smiling as Alex got comfortable, she glanced at one of the spots of grease on his shirt, before arching an eyebrow at him. “Feel like it a lot, do you?” Still grinning, because she certainly wasn’t going to judge – especially not when she had a tablet and a toolkit hidden in the small canvas bag she’d set down. Glancing at the screen in the car’s display as he spoke, she looked at him curiously when he asked her about her knowledge, and laughed at the mention of the salesman. He was probably still standing outside the car all forlorn and useless. Shrugging again, she flipped the display, before leaning back. “Ah, I test drove the Model S when it came out – smooth ride, beautiful handling. But when I heard the X was going to have winged doors…I had a DeLorean flashback and my inner nerd took over.” Sarah grinned, motioning to the high lifted doors of the vehicle. Flapping a hand in dismissal of the attendant. “It’s his own fault for assuming I knew nothing. I mean, come on, really? If he’s going to treat me like an idiot, then I’m going to enjoy proving him otherwise.” Snickering under her breath, she glanced at the console, only to pause for a moment, frowning. Her power slipped into the car’s systems, and filtered around until she found what she’d felt a second ago. “Hey…Hey, do that again.” The brunette technopath muttered, before looking at Alex with wide eyes. This time, she stretched her power out just a little further…And did the technopathic equivalent of tapping his. She’d felt that kind of tap before – from another technopath, when they’d both infiltrated the same system. A sort of common language, a presence that her powers noticed and recognized as similar to the technology, yet different. Slowly, her eyebrows raised, looking at Alex questioningly. It had to be him, right? She was almost positive. And if she weren’t in the middle of a giant convention of nerds and regular humans, she’d come right out and ask. Instead, she let her power brush against his, curiously, cautiously. |

Part of Alex's conciousness was rooting around in the cars motor, while the young woman was talking to him, but for some reason he didn't find it very hard to hear her at all. "Nawh, I'm not much into stereotypes, I don't think you gotta wear this or that to be into something. I'd be surprised if anyone else at this meet or whatever, knew so much about the former model." Alex answered her truthfully, as he let himself bled close to the cars battery, which felt like a regular car battery only much, much bigger and more powerful. "Almost all the time." He said, grinning back at the girl. "I'm Alex by the way." He reached out a big paw of a hand, which for once was clean and not covered in car gunk, but still calloused and worn out from manual labor. His nails were short and black underneath the tips from oil that he couldn't get out this morning in the shower. He raised his eyebrows, nodding when she said she had test driven the previous model, he didn't exactly know what she meant when she said DeLorean, but he assumed it had something to do with a movie or a show reference. "He really did have it comin' didn't he." Alex agreed, a little preoccupied with the different areas he was exploring in the car all the while being extremely careful to not actually turn the thing on or suddenly set the lights off or something. A nd that's when he felt it. It felt almost like touching her hand, soft and sorta warm, brushing against his consciousness inside the car. It tapped against his and startled him so much he jumped up in the seat, banging his head against the roof and snapping his consciousness back in his body. "Oooww" he grabbed his head but almost immediately forgot about the doll throb, turning towards the petite brunette whose consciousness he had probably just felt in the car along side his own. For a moment there he just stared at her, like she was a complex sonnet by Shakespear that he couldn't figure out. "Was that you?" He blurted out. Having never met another technopath he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do, sure he had some mutant friends but they actually never really discussed powers. Hesitantly, he bled back into the vehicle, finding the same sensation still present in the car. |

Really, stereotypes would make life way too boring in Sarah’s opinion. She was probably closer to a stereotype when she was younger – shy, reserved, not very social. The past few years had definitely gotten her to come out of her shell in regards to being more sociable. Obviously, since she’d engaged a perfect stranger in conversation, instead of blushing and hiding her knowledge of cars behind an awkward demeanor. Nowadays, she was much more comfortable showing just how much knowledge she had when it came to technology. Not a know-it-all or a show off, usually, but she had no issue proving that she wasn’t some idiot girl wandering around with an empty head. “There’s probably plenty here that do, but I imagine most of them would’ve just told the salesman they didn’t need his help.” She shrugged at the idea – she’d done her best to make the poor guy feel useful. Obviously with mixed results. Grinning at his response to her, she reached out and shook his hand. Her hands were small, the nails short but well kept, with a few faded scars on it from various tool-slips and at least one electrical burn. “Sarah, and it’s nice to meet you, Alex.” A single shoulder lifted and fell in a shrug as he mentioned the salesman, and she quirked her lips in a smirk. “I guess I could’ve been nicer to him, but even my patience has limits.” Flicking her gaze back to the screen, she was distracted by the presence she noticed within the vehicle, only to get startled and nearly jump a foot off the seat when he practically leaped out of his skin. Okay, so apparently she’d surprised him with that light touch of power. Then again, she couldn’t blame him. The first time she’d come across another technopath, she’d had much the same reaction. Of course, he hit his head, and Sarah immediately grimaced. “Oh my God, are you okay? I’m so sorry!” The car mirror showed the attendant approaching with a concerned look, and Sarah instantly snapped her gaze towards one of the screens in the back of the display. Within a moment, the screen was fuzzing in and out of focus, emitting a semi-high pitched whine from the speakers. The attendant forgot about them for a minute, turning to eye the monitor, as Sarah turned back to Alex, smiling apologetically. “Uh, yeah, that was me. Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you. I, uhm,” Okay, now she was blushing, cheeks brightening to pink as she smiled bashfully. “Guess I shouldn’t be surprised to meet another – you’re a technopath, yeah? Stupid question I guess, since I can tell you’re inside the car’s systems.” Once more, she felt him there, and she let her power brush ever-so-lightly against his. |

Smiling, Alex rubbed his head. "I'm fine, this thing has taken harder hits than that." he assured her. Another technopath. Theoretically he knew there had to be others out there, there were very few mutations that were singular events after all. Through his few years in New York Alex had met quite a few mutants with similar mutations, he'd even met a guy once that had been sort of a technopath, but more with the electricity in the devices than the actual possessing of tech. "I'm sorry I jumped like that, ain't used to finding other people inside the things I can go into." For once Alex didn't hesitate when asked the question. The M-question. 'Are you a mutant' was a question he usually avoided at all costs. He didn't like talking about it and having previous experience with people who either looked at him with hatred, or dollar signs, in their eyes when he said yes, hadn't exactly helped. "Yeah. I mean, I guess." That's what they'd called him in the Purple Skulls when they had found out what he could do. He still remembered Dana the right hand woman in the gangs expression when he told her he couldn't communicate with everything, pursed disappointed lips. They had found a use for him anyway, but a real technopath would've been better, that much he could tell. "Although I can't do what you just did to that screen over there." his crocked smile very cleary said 'yeah I saw that'. "I've only ever been able to... talk to vehicles and the like. Don't know why." Vehicles he did expertly though. He almost wanted to show her. To impress her a little. But starting this car, while on display, and driving out of the hotel with tires squealing was just a tad brazen enough - even for him. Instead, he made the dashboard light up, turned the window-whippers on and off, rolled the cars windows up and down and made the headlights flicker on and off. All at the same time. "How 'bout you?" Despite himself, he was curious. "Can you talk to all of it?" he gestured towards the entire room of tech. |

He seemed to shrug off the knock to his head pretty easily, and Sarah had to hope that it had just sounded worse than it was. Apparently it wasn’t that bad, because other than rubbing it a little bit, he didn’t really seem like he was in pain. Giggling a bit at the mention of having taken harder hits to the head, she turned a teasing look up to the roof of the car, gaze sweeping it dramatically. “In that case, let me check for dents in the poor car!” One hand stroked tenderly at the center console, as if she were petting a dog, and she grinned at his apology, waving it off with a laugh. “Yeah, it’s a weird feeling, sorry about that. There was probably a more tactful way of doing that.” A single shoulder lifted and fell in a bashful shrug, shifting around in the seat in order to see him better. He agreed with her assumption, although judging by his response he wasn’t used to it being given a specific name. Power classification was a tricky thing, after all. And then he quite pointedly mentioned the screen, which was still showing a delightful show of static for the confused attendant. Sarah blushed darkly, giving an innocent little smile as she glanced in the mirror. The attendant touched something, and with a squeak, the screen went back to normal, speaker beeping back into normal order. His elaboration on his powers was definitely interesting, and she felt the power moving through the car as it flipped on, system seemingly going haywire. Fascinated, she followed the track of his powers, clapping her hands gleefully as he showed off. Then he asked her about her powers, and Sarah slid him a grin, brown eyes scanning the room like a kid in a candy shop. “Pretty much. This place is essentially my candyland.” The brunette grinned, motioning to the screen in the car. Within a few seconds, it lit up, flipping through the internet, pulling up windows, Youtube videos, a tutorial on the car they were sitting in, even building specs for the building the small expo was being held in. “The technical classification for my powers is technopathy and cyberpathy – the ability to interact with and control various forms of technology.” Blushing when she realized she sounded like she was reading from a dictionary, Network grinned. “So, vehicles, huh? Guess that explains your incredibly accurate guess about the mileage?” Sarah teased with a bright smile, before giving him a curious look. “What kinds of vehicles? Planes, trains, and automobiles?” |

There was so much he wanted to talk to her about. About his power. How it worked, how hers worked, why it worked like it did, when did she know she had it, what could she do and a question he'd been asking himself ever since he knew what he was; why couldn't he connect with anything other than vehicles? She could obviously talk to anything in here as easily as he could slip his consciousness into a car. But he could not. He had never been able to. The thought had crossed his mind more than once, and he had tried, but all he got was noise, interference, static, gibberish, from it. But as desperately as he wanted to know, he didn't know her. He felt awkward asking her something so... personal.. about himself. He felt like he would be showing her his throat. Vunerable. Like she might laugh or something. Which was ridiculous, the girl - Sarah - seemed sweet. Nevertheless, he held his tongue. Alex smiled crookedly at her joke about the car getting hurt and her stroking it like a treasured family pet. "Seriously?" Impressed, he turned his gaze towards the screen in the car that suddenly started browsing through the internet. Huh, okay, so she couldn't just talk to stuff, she could obviously control even the coding parts of system to control it that completely. The screen in the car had an internet connection, but he doubted it was made to play youtube videos and the like. She sounded excited about her power, which spoke lengths to Alex about how she felt about being a mutant. In the beginning he hadn't been all that excited to join the freaks, to say the least, and his power at that time had stretched to cars and that was it. He had still felt like a, well, a weirdo. "Cyberpathy, huh?" He hadn't heard that word before. "Does that mean you can hack computers and stuff?" His very obvious interest shone through clear and bright, even though he looked like he was trying to tone it down but his eyes were betraying him. "Helicopters, scooters, motorcycles." Alex continued the list. "If it has wheels I can probably posses it. Although the amount of energy and time I need to do it varies. For a car I basically just need a glance at the thing and I'm in it. A plane, maybe ten minutes. Six if i push myself. Plus it needs to be near me and if it leaves my 'zone', I snap back to me." he explained. |

Sarah was never one to boast, or brag, or show off – well, not usually. There was always enjoyment in showing others what she was capable of, but she preferred to be a bit more subtle most of the time. Her powers weren’t the flashiest, not usually, and most of the time she down played them. Quite frankly, unless she was walking around in one of her robotic suits, or spaceship, her powers tended to be easily hidden. But the interested look on his face, she couldn’t help showing off a little bit, flipping through the screens mentally, before closing the tabs and grinning at him. The question made her nod, eyes flashing wickedly. “Is it still considered hacking if the computers just tell me everything I want to know?” The brunette grinned teasingly, before tugging a petite tablet out of the backpack sitting beside her. A touch turned the screen on, pulling up a few different things. “But yeah, you could call it that. I communicate with tech. Like…A bunch of little voices in the back of my mind, telling me about this and that. Computers, phones, blenders, toasters, game systems, cars, planes…” Blushing a bit and trailing off when she realized she was rambling, she looked at him interestedly as he listed his skills. Nodding her understanding of his explanation, she smiled. “That’s really cool. I’m not much good with motorcycles and scooters – if it can’t stand on its own, there’s not much it can do for me except chatter. And they’re not the best conversationalists.” She grinned, before glancing in the rearview to see the attendant wandering around a bit awkwardly. “Hey, wanna move this conversation to a table? Preferably one where we’re not getting the evil eye from an attendant who is probably thinking we’re either going to steal this car or fall asleep in it.” The guy kept glancing at them, and she made it a point to seem like she was examining the car, not just talking. “So you possess them? Is it your consciousness inside the vehicle, then, or do you communicate and have the vehicle respond to commands?” Curiously, she poked again at the power she felt from him inside the car’s systems, still grinning at him. Then she glanced at the approaching attendant, nudging Alex and pointing at a free table. “Continue over there?” Lifting the door and sliding out of the car, she leaned down to grab her bag, before straightening and moving over to the table, sitting and waiting for Alex to join her. |

This girl was most definitely a corvette. A classic. All sweet speed but there was still a bit of wicked in her eyes, and Alex couldn't help himself. He liked her. Instantly. Which was rare for him, most of the people he knew he gradually came to like, but Sarah was an instant connection. Had he not known better, he could've sworn he'd known her forever. Technopathy wasn't the most impressive mutant skill out there, but she was impressing, especially to him because he knew. He knew the level of skill she had and he had to reel himself in from not gabbing openly at her at her full list. "Seriously? That's awesome!" he exclaimed, followed by a chuckle. "Yeah, scooters took me a while too. Especially them little ones - vespas. They talk too damn fast." If anyone was listening to this conversation they'd think they were insane and straight-jacket worthy. Talking tech, it sounded insane. When Sarah suggested they move to a table, Alex nodded, grinning a little to himself about her comment about stealing the car. Five months ago he would've considered it. A piece like this would've gotten him the paycheck of the year from the Skulls, but they would've chopped her to bits and sold her separately, which would've been a damn shame. Alex got out of the car, gave her one final lingering touch, moved with Sarah to a free table and sat down, placing one of his feet on his knee so his leg was propped up. "I actually don't know exactly what happens. I'm not real sciency and I've never been to anyone sciency to check it out. All I know is that what I do feels like, well, being one with the car. Like a part of me slips inside it and can manage everything from inside the vehicle it self. I call it possession but I suppose there could be a better word for it out there." Alex explained, thoughtful. "I don't actually tell it what to do, it just does it. Like, I don't have to command my arm to do this," he leaned over the table and gingerly pushed a lock of her hair back behind her ear. "it just does it because I want it to. Impulses, I mean. No active commanding." |

Connecting with people over technology was something Sarah was used to. Whether it was playing video games with people at the mansion, or working on projects with Madison, she always found it easier to talk to people when she knew they had something in common. Starting conversations with strangers had never been her strong suit, and despite not being quite as shy as she used to be, it was still sometimes a challenge. Even so, it wasn’t often she connected with people quite like this. His powers were different in many ways, but the baseline was so similar, and she’d felt the similarity when brushing against his in the car’s systems. Even Madison couldn’t communicate with technology like she could. The appreciation on Alex’s face when she listed some of the things she could work with made her grin, letting out a giggle at the mention of Vespas. “It’s easier for me with newer cars, since they have so much more that’s controlled with technology in them.” She motioned towards the Tesla vehicle with a smile. Once they were seated at the table instead, with the attendant going over to the car and apparently checking to make sure it was still in one piece, Sarah turned to Alex. Listening curiously, she nodded in understanding, leaning towards him with a smile. And then he reached out, and she blinked, startled by the sudden contact, and her cheeks flushed pink to the tips of her ears. Her thoughts derailed for a moment, because that seemed like flirting, and Sarah had no idea what to do about that. “So it, uhm, works like an extension of yourself, then.” Sarah had to make a conscious effort not to embarrass herself further, tugging her hair over her shoulder and shifting in place. “Responding to both conscious commands as well as instinctive reactions.” Now she just felt like a dork, and her blush darkened just a bit, twisting a lock of hair around one finger thoughtfully. “Works like that for me too. Talking is one thing, but the actual control tends to react to a simple thought, as if controlling an extra limb.” After a moment, she grinned, raking a hand through her hair. “Sorry, sciency is just something I do.” Shrugging a single shoulder awkwardly, gaze flitting around the center, landing momentarily on certain pieces of technology on display, before looking curiously at Mackenzie. “So is it just vehicles, or can you talk to the other stuff here?” Tugging her tablet out of her purse, she placed in on the table, screen glowing. |

Smiling at her giggle at his comment about the Vespas and even wider at her deep flush at his stroking her hair behind her ear, but this smile was more bemused than amused. She seemed like a friendly, smart and funny girl - not to mention pretty - surely she was used to guys being a little flirty with her. "It's actually the opposite with me. The newer cars, that have foreign tech too imbedded in them, are actually harder for me to connect with. I can still connect but it feels like trying to ride a wild beast, like the machine still has some power to slip out of my grasp." He answered, musing a little and then continuing. "When I started working, as a mechanic, I started out in my uncles mechanic shop helping him restoring old, classic cars. The kind of cars that are pretty much the baseline of all of their next generations, the ones the newer models were developed on. When I slide into one of those, I'm holding the reigns." The explanation she gave, about his powers being an extension of himself made sense, although he'd never thought about it like that. Cars did seem to just, well, get him. They were a part of him. "Yeah.. Yeah. That totally makes sense." His thoughts were swirling a bit and he barely noticed her blush deepening, shifting around and general uncomfortableness. "No, no, don't be sorry," Alex said quickly, when she apologized. "It's actually kind of nice to know how it works." That was a general feeling he had, all the time actually. He wanted to know how things worked, why they worked like they did and how they were put together, and because it didn't come instinctually to him, he had to seek out knowledge. Breaking free of his thoughts, he smiled and half shook his head, half shrugged. "Nah. Not really, I mean I can hear it, but I can't understand it. Certainly can't carry a conversation with it, or connect with it." He turned in his chair and quickly scanned the room for the nearest tech device, which was a new piece of tech for home air-conditioning which was supposed to be more green or whatever. Zeroing in on it, he reached. If it had been a car, his consciousness would already be in it, it was within his reach - it would've taken him to seconds. But this thing, it was like running his head against a wall. He couldn't pierce into it and when he tried he couldn't get a grip. Like trying to grasp a piece of wet soap. The air conditioners reaction was to splutter a little and then keep doing what it was doing. Alex sighed and muttered; "stubborn bastard" under his breath. |
