“Well,” Terry waved a hand around, tracing a vague pattern in the air as she suddenly realised it was potentially not as easy a question as she had thought. “Do you tend to have accidents? Ever use yer powers without the intention of doing so?” He had gotten a grasp of what she meant though and nodding, the Irish lass absorbed what he said about his powers in terms of the heat versus the cold. Taking a sip of her coffee, Siryn then shook her head as he offered to show her, quickly putting her mug back down and making another subtle note. “Oh no, no don’t worry about that just yet. We have a more...specific area for power demonstration. That can be handled later,” she said smoothly, not wanting to go to town with talking about the Danger Room and all of that too soon, as he had only just showed up at the door. Again, Theresa held up her hand as he said about talking about his parents. “Look...Unless it’s strictly necessary we know about any potential dangers posed to this school, its staff or students by any members of yer natural family, we don’t need ter know. We do have professional counsellors on campus, if that’s something one day you’d like to talk about to them,” her expression was serious, but it was friendly too, sincere. “A lot of us have come from very difficult backgrounds and we support one another through that shared pain ter make it something better, but this ain’t an interrogation. All I need to know is any important facts that can help us make sure you settle in as quickly as possible.” Looking across the office, she caught Dallas’s eye and gave him a nervous smile. It hadn’t really been that long ago that she had been brought to the school by SHIELD, nulled and with handcuffs to match. Her bad girl rep wasn’t even something that she had tried to shake off at first. Indeed, Terry had enjoyed it. Now, looking back it was as if she had been a different person. There were others who had known her back then, but Dallas has been one of her best friends in that time period and he’d been different from people like Julian, who had just ignited her bad temper and tendency to act out even more with his own volatile personality. Lord, did she still miss Keller though. Sitting back a little as her friend added about the kitchen, she smiled. “Aye, and you don’t have to use the kitchen either, as the catering services aren’t just limited to the students. We got it pretty good here,” there were plenty of ‘buts’ she could add, but she was trying to move past negatives. A lot had happened to her, but the past couldn’t be changed. “Dallas, more coffee to go with your uncripsy?” Siryn mocked, but with only the best intentions and the vague idea he wold now go and create an uncripsy krispie cake. “The school facilities are pretty awesome though, huh?” It was a prompt, as she knew he loved to be useful and help and the chance to talk about the school and the added benefits such as the library, pool, grounds...well who didn’t like all that sort of thing? |

"I haven't had any power related accidents in years..." Drake responded as he relaxed back in the chair and thought a moment about this last time his power had acted on its own. "The only part of my power that acts on its own is the cocoon." Drake said referring to the inch thick layer that surrounded his body that both helped and hindered him in everyday life. I wonder where the power demonstration area is? Drake thought to himself, he was about to ask it aloud before he was informed that it would be handled later so instead Drake nodded and continued to listen. "Well my dad is a vampire." Drake said jokingly and chuckled a bit " He’s worked in the hospital for years now." his step father worked as a phlebotomist in the city since before Drake was adopted. Drake stretched his body from his sitting position and simultaneously released a breath of air, then he slouched down in the chair and looked around the room, he watched Theresa and Dallas for a moment. To Drake they looked like two friends, he didn't have much experience with friends. I wonder how long it'll take me to find some real friends here? Drake thought to himself as he eyes continued wondering around the room and out the windows. "This place is amazing." Drake said aloud before he even realized the words were being voiced. Drake looked from side to side unsure of what he should do. Did I just say that out loud? Drake questioned himself as he sat there in his ridiculous panic. |

The mention of a cocoon was something of a surprise, further evidence that the stranger's powerset was more complicated than it first appeared. Dallas was curious but he didn't ask any questions. He'd probably cheerfully grill Drake on his various powers once the man had settled in but in this office, that wouldn't be appropriate. Terry, and Warren if he ended up joining them, would decide if they needed further information. Right now, he figured, it was probably most important to establish how much help the guy needed and whether anything about him was a cause for concern. So far, as far as the shadowy mutant could tell, there were no major alarm bells ringing. He seemed like a nice enough fella. Dallas quirked a brow when Drake declared his father to be a vampire, thinking he was serious for a moment. The most ridiculous thing was that he didn't question the idea of someone having a fictitious supernatural creature in the family. They lived in a crazy world and the existence of a bloodsucking sire wouldn't be the weirdest thing he'd ever heard. It might not even make the top ten. As it turned out, though, the man in question actually just worked in a hospital, which saved Dallas the effort of scanning the room for something he could use as a makeshift stake in case the vampire spawn turned on them. It was almost a disappointment but probably for the best. Taking a sip from his mug, he caught a smile from Theresa and returned it, though he was sure he detected a trace of nervousness in her eyes. She had no reason to feel that way, as far as he was concerned. She was doing a brilliant job here today. Though he was fully aware of Siryn's various responsibilities here at the school, it wasn't often that he actually got to see her in full flow. They both worked in the building but their respective jobs didn't interconnect much so Terry was usually off duty when Dallas spent time with her. Seeing her being so professional, so on top of things, was actually pretty wonderful. His friend had been through torments more nightmarish than he could even imagine, yet look at her now. Proof positive that this school worked wonders, but he didn't put her success down to Xavier's entirely. In his opinion, the redhead had flourished because she was something special, and they were lucky to have her here. Then she teased him about his disastrous vocabulary, producing a laugh from the young man, the corners of his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Yeah, yeah," he grinned at her. "I might need to just down the whole pot at this rate." That was actually seriously tempting but best not. Terry gave him a way in to the discussion, and Dallas was delighted to have the opportunity to contribute, sitting up a little straighter in his chair. Before he could speak, Drake voiced his feelings about his new environment, broadening Dallas's smile even further. "It is amazing," he agreed. "Honestly, this place has so much to offer. The facilities here are first class. I mean, the food's obviously top notch," he grinned. "But it's not just that. You should see the gym, it's incredible, I spend way too much time in there. There's a huge pool, sports equipment, everything you could want. And if you're more of a book guy, the library here's awesome." So he heard. He wasn't the book-learnin' type, more interested in physical activity. How he managed to graduate from high school, especially after the turbulence of his school life, he'd never know. "And I know you've had a glimpse of it, but the grounds here are just... I mean, they'll take your breath away. That's the beauty of this place, there's so much to see, so much to learn, so many paths open to you. Honestly, I think this school is a little miracle. Being here's gonna make your life better. It'll make you better," he said, casting a smile in Terry's direction. They were living proof of his words. "But the best thing about this place is the people," he continued, becoming more serious as he turned his attention back to Drake, honest sincerity written clear across his face. "It sounds like a cliche but it's true: we're a family. Life isn't always easy for people like us but we take care of each other here. You won't have to face the world alone anymore, Drake. It took a lot of guts for you to drive up to those gates today. This place is pretty intimidating from the outside, right? But take it from someone who's been there, man. You made the best decision of your life today." |
