Timeframe: May 24th, @ 11 am Greg Russell, in the two, nearly three months since he had been born, had good days and bad days. He was a baby, after all, and his parents were pretty sure that no baby was idyllic and perfect all the time. And of course, his bad days weren't so much bad on him, but bad on his parents. Crying that would occur for seemingly no reason. Demanding attention constantly, without a moment's letup. Sometimes a bite, sometimes a scratch. Making messes of himself. Feeding had gone on to baby food in a jar and he was chaotic with it. And Rahne was certain it was only a matter of a month or two at most before he was crawling all over the place. But the hard times made the good times all the better, and thank God above, today was a good day. She sat on the couch while Greg lay on his back next to her, laughing his little fuzzy baby self into a practical frenzy of motion, legs and arms thrashing about. "Iiiii gotcha gotcha gotcha!" Rahne exclaimed with a slightly higher pitched voice as she gently tickled Greg's belly, prompting him to giggle ecstatically, along with a wagging tail that his mother found herself mirroring the action. "Gotcha gotcha gotcha!" she laughed along with him, thoroughly enjoying this small moment. It was small moments like these that made all the stress worthwhile, really. In these moments, it was easy to forget the late night crying, the anxiety and anguishing. In these moments, there was nothing but a happy baby and his mom. |

In his little time back at the mansion, James had done a decent job of staying to himself. While very little actual time had been spent on the mansion grounds (He'd been out and about still a little), he'd yet to go see Rahne and Jack. Hell, there was probably a decent chance they didn't know he was there yet. Or, at least if they did, he hadn't been bombarded with questions or anything yet. However, Jimmy was intent on fixing that. Which had led him to his current trek along Xavier's grounds, his bare feet taking him along the familiar path. The Russell cabin wasn't too far off, and he'd always thought it must of been awful nice to have that kind of place to yourself. The perks of marriage, he supposed. He knew that while he was gone, Rahne's baby had been born and while he did feel a little bad for not actually being there, Jim was excited to meet Greg. He'd already heard a lot about him from various people and he really was interested in the Russell's new bundle of fur. Approaching the door to the Russell house, he could hear laughter from inside and smiled to himself a little. Somebody was having a good time. He raised a hand and knocked twice against the door. He considered saying something, but if they weren't actually home and that was just, the TV or something, he didn't want to look stupid. So he waited for a moment, hands in his pockets before the door opened and he looked up from his feet. "Hey." |

Both Rahne and Greg stopped short at the sound of knocks on the door, eyes going wide. The baby hadn't quite developed a canine sense of protectiveness, but he was alert to sudden sounds or new scents. This qualified as both. "Upsie daisy," Rahne said with a grin as she scooped her baby up into her arms and quickly made her way over to the front door. These days seemed to be the time for absent friends to make their comebacks. Dani had come back a few weeks before, Scott and Jean had made an appearance at Avery's wedding prior to that... it was a good time to get back together with people. "Jimmy!" Rahne exclaimed exuberantly as she opened up the door, using her one free arm to hug him as well as she could. "Oh, 'tis good t' see you again, ye great big goof," Rahne said with a smile as she stepped aside to let him in. It had been quite some time, as she recalled. She supposed though that everybody needed their time away from the hectic world of putting on tights and saving the world. "So... before ye tell me all about yuir adventures, here's the man o' the hour," she said with a smile as she readjusted her grip on Greg to make him more visible. Bright yellow eyes stared up at James in confusion and curiosity, little nose twitching as he did his best to take in the man's scent. "Careful, he does bite a bit," Rahne said with a smirk. |

The moment the door opened and Rahne exclaimed his name, Jimmy was grinning like an idiot. He laughed as Rahne did her best to hug him and he returned the gesture with a "Hey Rahney, its great to see you too.", minding the little furry one in her other arm. The moment she moved he stepped inside the cabin and pulled his focus back onto the duo, making sure to get out of Rahne's way. "Well, to say I had adventures is a little bit of an exaggeration." He turned his attention to the little boy in her arms and James's face softened a little at the baby. They hadn't been joking, he was adorable. Leaning over a little to get more on Greg's level, James glanced up at Rahne and huffed in amusement. "Alright, I'll keep that in mind." Then his attention was focused on the curious little face in front of him, little Greg's nose twitching at him. He hadn't been expecting him to be quite so... well, wolflike yet, but he was a good looking little furball. "Hey there little man, how're you doing?" He stood back up straight and looked at Rahne again. "Well damn, you two made a good lookin' kid." He glanced down at the baby again for a moment. "Gregory, right?" He added with a nod at him. |

"An exaggeration? What, did ye go stranglin' bears with yuir bare hands? Wrasslin' gators in the bayou?" Rahne asked with a smirk, hoping that it was nothing all too serious. Even after the fact, Rahne didn't like the idea of her friends being out in particularly dangerous situations when she couldn't help or at the very least be available to try and rescue. Either way - he was here now, and none the worse for the wear, thank goodness. She supposed there was no sense worrying over what was, when God willing, it was all done and finished. As James bent down a bit to get closer to Greg, the baby wolf boy reached up, trying to grab for some face, or maybe some hair, but not quite getting any. "Bah?" was Greg's response, tilting his head to the right before swinging his right arm out. "Ye've caught him on a good day," Rahne said with a chuckle. "Dinnae let this cutesy act fool ye. He's full well a terror when he wants t' be." Of course it would be like this. Leave the horror for when it's just him and his parents, and be cute and precocious otherwise. "Dinnae ye think I dinnae know what ye're doin', ye wee stinker," Rahne teased, touching the tip of her index finger to his nose, which prompted him to grab onto the hand and squeeze as tightly as his little baby hands could manage. "So come on, have a seat on the couch, an' ye can tell me all about yuir time away, an' maybe even hold him if ye'd like." |

"Oh no, nothing like that. I try to keep my 'wrasslin' to a minimum when I'm just... Jim." He laughed a little at Greg's attempts to get his hair, although that might actually hurt a little. He nodded a bit before he made his way to the couch and sat down. "Oh he's crafty then. Get on everybody's good side and then quietly wreak havoc at home." He swallowed a little harder at her mention of holding him though. How did you hold a baby? He had no idea. In fact, James was rather lacking in the baby department. He was small and fuzzy and looked like he would break very easily. "You'll, uh, have to show me how to hold him. I haven't really held babies much." He smiled a little before running a hand in his hair, pushing it back away from his face and turned to face Rahne more. Man, what to tell her? He hadn't really been up to anything interesting. It'd been a lot of time on the road, at one bar or another and he'd only occasionally stop minor crime. Hell, he'd only had a gun pulled on him once the entire time, which was considerably less than usual. He'd only gone back to Camp Verde for a day. Left new flowers on the three Proudstar graves. "I really wasn't up to much. I went to Oregon, and that's probably the most interesting thing that had happened, really. It was a good reminder why I hate snow." He smiled a little before shrugging. "It seems you've had much more on your plate, with Greg and all. How's Jack doing? I haven't seen him yet." |

"Och, I hear ye there. I've nae punched a bad guy in... ohhh.... eight months?" Rahne chuckled. It was an odd thing, she realized, missing the superheroism from before. She couldn't actively engage in it while her baby son still needed her, couldn't go about with the X-Men fighting evil, saving the day... this one baby needed her, and that took precedence. "Oh, 'tis nae so hard," Rahne said as she moved Greg over for James to take hold himself. "Greg's grown a bit quickly overall, really. He's nae quite at crawlin' yet, but he's capable of sittin' up, so ye dinnae need to keep a hold on his head so much." Thank goodness he was still a baby. Rahne could hardly imagine what it would be like if he ended up growing faster. If he was physically five years old before his first birthday or something ridiculous like that. "So ye really just have to keep some support on his bum, an' some support on his back, or his sides even. Heck, he could even sit on yuir lap if'n ye'd prefer," she nodded her head, smiling. There was something special about allowing people to hold him. They got something out of it, she got something out of it, and Greg got one more person to become acclimated to. "Well, ye'd have nae really escaped much snow here, t' be honest. We had a rough winter ourselves, so... ye were pretty much snowed in no matter what," Rahne said with a chuckle. She supposed he'd gone to visit the old homestead, to visit his fallen family members. "Oh, Jack's been doin' much better than he ever gave himself credit for, shock of all shocks. I swear, he undersells himself so much. So afraid o' what bad things he might do, but then he becomes a dad an' he's quite the natural at it. He's quite silly sometimes, really." She shook her head, and smiled. "I'm glad ye're back, Jimmy. Cannae have ye gone f'r too long, or I start gettin' worried." |

"And the bad guys are probably toasting to that. Heaven knows I wouldn't want to have to fight you." He smiled lightly at her. The fact that he'd hate to go toe to toe with Rahne was true, and he figured she enjoyed spending time with little Greg over kicking ass. Maternal instincts and all. He frowned a little as Greg was lifted and quickly a look of confusion replaced it as she handed him Greg. He held him a little awkwardly for a moment before Rahne told him he could hold his head up, which gave him a good reason to put him on his lap instead. Putting one hand on his back to keep him up, Jim offered the littlest Russell a few fingers and he smiled softly down at him. "Okay, this is better. Don't you think so Greg?" He looked back over at Rahne as she spoke up, nodding gently when she mentioned the weather. "Yeah, I'd heard it'd been a heavy winter this year. No, I went down south more at the worst of it. I could only stand so much of it without a full winter set of clothes." He shrugged a little. The durability kept him alive in lots of cold, but it sure didn't make him comfortable. When she mentioned Jack, Jim brightened a little again and, still keeping Greg up and gently pulling his hand away every now and then before letting Greg tug on him again (he was trying to avoid teeth) he snorted and nodded. "No I know what you mean. I'm glad that he's doing well, I was hoping he'd be around, but I'll catch him some other time." He looked down once more at Greg. "You know kid, you've got yourself a good set of parents. Consider yourself lucky." JIm nodded a little. He couldn't be gone for too long. Every time he was it seemed something disastrous happened, and he wouldn't let his home be under fire without him again. "You know I'll always come back. Can't have you getting worried over me too. I'm glad to be back Rahne, the road is good and all, but I missed it here. Missed home." |

"Well, we have been taught by some o' the very best, aye?" Rahne said with a smirk and a chuckle. Sometimes, it was a bit of a stretch to believe that many of the people in this school, faculty and students alike, were highly efficient combat machines, the two seated at this couch discussing life casually while holding a baby included. How anyone could have a "normal" life while being trained and capable of the things that the X-Men could do would likely boggle the minds of most people, but here they were, managing fairly well. Granted, "normal" was so very relative at this point. What was normal, anyway, when you were what you were? For all the trappings of normality in this little cabin - wall art, functional if not nice furniture, a bedroom and a spare - the fact remained that the Russells were not human. Not quite. Greg's little eyes focused on the fingers held in front of him before he deftly grabbed onto the hand with both of his own, sniffing at the fingers with intent and purpose before opening his mouth to bite down on them. "Greg - don't ye do that," Rahne said sternly, placing a hand on his little shoulder, pulling his attention away from the hand for a moment. "Well, ye know how it is - da gets a wee bit of time off for mum an' baby, then he goes back to work. He's still got t' teach all those students about culinary technique an' outdoors survival an' whatnot," Rahne said with a small shrug of her shoulders. She didn't mind Jack going back to teaching when he did, honestly. He was still home with her every afternoon and evening, not to mention the weekends, and that balanced the scales of parenthood quite well. When the little guy wasn't being a little demon at inopportune moments, of course. "We missed ye bein' here," she said, patting him on the shoulder. "Plus, hey, one more babysitter for when the need arises." A sound caught her attention, and like an alert guard dog, her head snapped in its direction. Tree branch scraping against the window. "Uch, we'll have to trim that back a bit, lest I give muhself a start every time the breeze blows. So, Jimmy - ye thinkin' of teachin' some classes? I'd wager ye're quite good in the classroom. Certainly the kids'd think twice before actin' up in front o' you." |

"That we have." If someone had simply strolled into the room at that moment, they might never had guessed how dangerous the two people seated on the couch could be. If Rahne and Greg weren't actively showing their mutation, an outsider might never guess that anything was different about the Russell household or even the entire school at times. It was almost surreal at times, for them to be able to act normally and be in society with the things some of them had been through. He laughed gently as Rahne distracted her child from trying to take a bite out of his hand. "That's a little tough for you to be chewing on right now." he mused softly before looking back at Rahne and nodding a little. He couldn't imagine how hard it must be on them. There were days where he could barely remember to take care of himself correctly, much less try and provide for something that was completely dependent on it's parents and still work. But being a parent was supposedly worth all of the stress. He laughed at her mention of babysitting Greg and nodded a little. "You hear that? Your mom thinks that it'd be a good idea to leave us alone together." he was, of course, joking. Well mostly joking anyways. He'd sure as hell feel more comfortable around Greg when he was old enough to walk about and talk and whatever it was kids did. Right now though, he was small and fragile and only made little baby noises. About half a second after Rahne's head snapped towards the sound at the window, Jim mirrored her action, one hand instinctively snapping to his belt. Ever since Scott had been killed on grounds, he'd been a little extra jumpy when something caught him off guard. After all of what had happened here, he almost expected every creak or snap to be another attack. It was mostly irrational, but he couldn't help it. Rahne dismissed it though and he relaxed, hoping that she hadn't seen his startle. To her next question though he could only shrug a little. "I'll probably teach something, I dunno if it'll be a class. I mean, I'm not exactly qualified to be telling other people how to do much. I might do a survival course, I'm good at that. I'll go back to doing individual training again." He laughed again and nodded. "It certainly helps when you tower over most your students. It helps me convince them that I'm actually a very intimidating and scary guy." he nodded in faux seriousness before looking down at Greg and gently running a finger through the little baby's fur. |

"Oh, ye'd be surprised what he can chew on," Rahne said with a laugh. "I'm beginnin' to think that once he becomes mobile, we're gonna have t' do somethin' t' keep the furniture safe. Those wee little chompers grew in good an' quick - it's all been quick, really." She shook her head slowly, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly as well, through pursed lips and slightly air-puffed cheeks. "Five months, that's all it took f'r him to be ready an' born, if ye'd believe that. An' he wasn't premature or anythin' of the sort. Came right on time, apparently." Rahne bent down in her seat, reaching for a small rubber toy - a bathtime duck, that was barely sticking out from the underside of the couch. She hadn't even noticed it down there, and she should have. Made of a tough material, it still had a few small toothmarks in it. She held it out in front of Greg, and he immediately latched onto it and began gnawing at it. "Go figure, he likes chewin' on ducks," Rahne said with a chuckle. "Well, I f'r one think ye'd be quite good in a classroom. Nae sure what subject ye'd take f'r yuir forte an' whatnot, but I know ye'd do it well whatever it was." |
