June 14, 2014 Early Evening When she called Starsmore to meet up with him she informed him their meeting place was a surprise and she would only forward an address and nothing more a few minutes before he had to leave the mansion. Entertaining Jono was a bit tricky as he was a bit difficult to impress, so she searched yelp reviews wide and long until she found this one coffee haunt in New York City that she felt would be perfect for her friend. Abarco was a hole in the wall coffee place in the East Village, which she felt was right up his alley. Rather than wait for him nervously, she grabbed the menu and looked it over. Yup, this place was perfect. Off to the corner someone was singing some random folksy song and all of the people in this joint exuded a sort of cool confidence with a splash of tolerance as no one looked twice at the man with a fish head in the corner. Now that mutant had it bad. Jono was simply hot. Literally. Dani couldn’t tell you how they became friends as really the two should have been at each other’s throats, but Dani genuinely liked his intellect and witty observations and while others may have found rumors of his bar fights intimidating, it intrigued Dani. Especially considering Dani had gotten into one too many scuffles herself when she was younger. It seemed he was simply her type of friend. Jono may have been rough around the edges, but he was overall a pleasant man and together they could sit in comfortable silence without worrying about impressing one another. She always managed to invade his space when he was brooding and some days he may have told her to disappear or something equally charming, but more often than not he let her stay. She figured her constant appearances made him soften towards her, which eventually led to this quite lovely and quirky friendship they shared. She sat at a table nervously awaiting his arrival as she wanted to hear him declare this was the best angsty/musician/hipster spot in all of New York, when she heard the screeching of the next singer. It was quite terrible, but the customers around her listened to the singing and bobbed their heads along as if though it were a masterpiece worthy of Mozart. Dani discreetly grabbed a coffee mug left behind from a nearby table and sniffed it. It was clearly not laced with drugs, so she returned the coffee mug back to its rightful table. Oh dear god, these people had terrible taste in music. Or maybe this was good music and she just didn’t recognize it for what it was? What was that one band that had a cool coffee shop vibe to it? Vampire Weekend? It even had a very emo, dramatic name. Jono probably loved them. She pulled out her cellphone and pulled up a Vampire Weekend song on youtube and compared it to whatever these indie musicians were doing on the makeshift stage. Well, the music was the same, but the singing was a bit off. Well, at least there was ambience to the room. Dark, dreary, and smelled of candle smoke and expensive coffee. When she heard the chime of the doorbell and saw Jono walk in she wanted to jump up and hug him, but you know, not the best of ideas. Instead, she winked at him and waved him over to her table, which was off in a secluded little corner of the coffee haunt. “How’s my favorite moody friend?” She teased. “This place is amazing isn’t it? There is a singer called Electric Spinster, who sings about cats or something dramatic. I dunno. It’s suppose to be the best indie music in all of the East Village.” Truth was she just listened to whatever her friends had on their mp3 players and she liked to get music recommendations from Jono from time to time as he had a good sense about these things. Dani was much too pleased with herself and overly excited by Jono’s presence, because the truth was, she missed the X-Men and instead of bonding with X-Factor she found ways to reconnect with the X-Men. She may have left them, but she didn’t think she could ever truly leave the X-Men. She felt they were a part of her and she hoped they felt the same for the most part. “How are you? Have ya missed me? You better have. This is true friendship love, because had I picked a place I would have wanted to go too, we’d be playing hockey now. Instead we’re listening too,” and she pulled out her cellphone to read part of a review, “the most bitchin’ indie music where real musicians play. Not that Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus crap. Oh and the coffee is pretty good. Try it bitches. Unless you listen to Miley than stay the hell away.” She looked up at Jono and smiled as she thought the review was perfect. MrSatanKat should really write more Yelp reviews. “Come on, when someone tells us bitches we have to try it, that right there is a guarantee the music here will be...bitchin’. Though confession...I like about three Miley Cyrus songs. That probably disqualifies from being a cool music hipster.” |

To say that Jono wasn't a little surprised when Dani called him and asked him to hang out would be an understatement. He was very surprised that she had called instead of texting, like many people do but nope she called him. So his response was very much like Sphinx from Gone in 60 seconds. He pressed a button once or twice to answer and then they went from there. She wouldn't even tell him where they were supposed to meet up, just an address that he had no idea of. So after looking at the address and finding that it was a small coffee shop in New York, he borrowed a motorcycle and headed out to the city. Finding a decent parking spot near the cafe. Not wearing his usual trench coat, Jono had opted for a shorter coat and a regular t-shirt with his jeans and combat boots. His bandages were a dark green; again feeling more fun and liking the different colours he could get. Stopping at the shop front he looked at the windows and signage, shaking his head at the outrageous sign before opening the door. Low and behold it even had that annoying twinkling bell which made him close his eyes in annoyance. Opening them again he looked to see Dani waving at him from a corner table. Raising his hand in reciprocation, Jono weaved through the tables before realizng what music they were playing. It was stupid and whiny and very depressing. While he used to like this type of thing, now that he had a better outlook on life not so much. Shrugging as he sat down he looked at her before she asked her question about him being moody. ::Well I'm not that moody anymore would you say? I feel like I've been doing pretty good all things considered,:: he responded to her before looking around ::and this is indie music? This sounds like the fish man over there blowing bubbles into a water bong and hoping to turn that into music. Also cats and dramatic stuff is boring.:: Taking off his jacket he draped it over the back of the chair before lacing his finger together and resting his elbows on the counter. ::Hey now I would have been fine playing hockey, trust me I would have been okay with that. This:: gestures to the band ::this is just bollocks, I don't even know what type of music this is or whether or not you could call this music,:: he sent to her with a laugh. As she read the review he literally face palmed and ran it down his face in exasperation. ::Well that bitch must have been tripping out on a bad batch on bitch drugs. Cause this is not music at all,:: he grumbled ::trust me I know music, I write and play music. This is terribly bitchin music, but I guess we bitches are nothing but bitches. Hey at least those people actually know how to write some music, keyword 'some' but who knows. Though overall I am pretty good, figuring out what to do with myself. How are you? You doing alright in the big ol city?:: |

“Son of a bitch. Seriously? Dammit, I knew we should have played hockey instead.” Dani threw her head back and started laughing. “I think the music here sucks too.” She then turned back to listen to some weird angry remix of Phoebe Buffay’s Smelly Cat and sheepishly looked at Jono. “I can fix this.” She took out her phone and then put it on Pandora. People looked at her angrily and then she looked back at the singer and yelled, “Well stop singing SMELLY CAT, the 90s is over.” The girl immediately got off stage and people seemed too hesitant to get on stage after that, once Dani gave the crowd a pointed look. Some glared and whispered, but no one dared to get close to the stage and it appeared a manager was about to approach them, when Dani smiled sweetly. “I want a white chocolate mocha. Thanks!” The manager seemed stunned she would even ask that and walked away, now Dani didn’t know if the person in charge would bring her a drink, but at least it drove them away. “I didn’t really need a drink. I just needed her off her game. I wasn’t about to be lectured for not liking this music or told to leave. You know how much time and energy and emo research I put into this? A LOT. Jono, we’re going to enjoy this coffee place whether it kills us and we will listen to my cellphone in case the group,” and she looked at the little advertisement on the table quickly to finish, “Whisker Killaz appears on stage.” She leaned back in her chair and thought about Jono’s question, while looking at him approvingly. He did seem changed. Happier. It had just been so long since she saw him and it seemed in her efforts to catch up with everyone she was missing crucial information, such as Jono no longer being dark and angsty. Though, she could dig a lighter happier Jono. It’s what she always wanted for him anyways. “Me and the big city are getting along well. Everyone is really direct and to the point. I like that. And sure people aren’t as friendly, like they are in Westchester, but I’ll trade direct over friendly. Plus I can bring on the friendly for New York. I mean, I was pretty friendly earlier.” She raised her eyebrows at him. “I mean, I didn’t scare anyone. Maybe I’ve perfected the art of fear mongering, but that’s without the use of my powers, so technically still ethical,” she said with a grin. People knew she rarely if ever used the more destructive side of her powers, but she wasn’t beneath teasing about the more dangerous aspects of her power or her strong personality, that some may consider bully like. If she lived in fear of her own mutation, she’d never learn to live. She learned long ago to accept that while her powers weren’t always the type to be used freely, they had their uses. “I kinda miss the mansion, but you know change is good, yada yada. So, aside from figuring out what to do with yourself, have you spent time with anyone? Hmm,” she said in a light manner. “Cute guy like you, and that British telepathic accent makes you a charming guy, eh?” Dani for one was quite optimistic about her friends and their personal lives. Whether they wanted to be famous, find love, or just get an MBA, she believed they were all for the most part capable of it, if they just put the energy towards that goal of theirs. “I’m unfortunately, not swayed by the British accent, but I’m more of an outlier. Thousands of girls love that accent. I mean, Paige, Rahne should probably like it cause you know Scottish, Nori maybe, but you’re a guy so you’re out of luck there.” Dani stopped to look at him to gauge his reaction. “Aside from just catching up, you know I’m obligated as a friend to make sure you're happy. I can’t help it. If I’m getting my life back in order, I want the same for everyone else, if not I want their lives to be even better.” She began to play with the advertisement on the table and looked at all the coffee specials for the week and then back at Jono. “I’m glad to see we’re both in a better place.” |

Jono laughed when Dani cursed about how he would rather be playing hockey. He watched as she laughed and commented on how bad the music was, before she pulled out her phone and put on Pandora. It quickly drowned out the sound of the terrible Smelly Cat and drew the attention of others. He glanced around and then mentally chuckled as someone looking like a manager came and drew close to their table before Dani asked for a drink. Again he laughed harder putting a hand to his missing jaw like he was covering a laugh. ::Oh Dani you are to good at this fear management thing,:: he sent to her through his mental laughter. When she mentioned about how much research she had into finding this place, he just raised an eyebrow at her. ::So ye just picked a place assuming that I would still be naturally broody and depressed?:: he asked her ::c'mon Dani, you didn't even think to check with me first? Jeez I thought you would at least do that. Though if you think that staying here is a good thing then I'll sit here and enjoy your company.:: While she looked at him, Jono looked at her also. She looked very good, healthy and full of spit and vinegar, exactly as how she was a few weeks ago. They hadn't hung out alot but when they did they always had a very good time. Whether it be full of stupid antics or just sitting and drinking beers. ::That's good to hear that you and the city are getting along. I'd hate to see what would happen if you weren't,:: he commented to her ::You could scare half the city if you wanted to I don't doubt one bit. Though it's good to hear that you didn't have to scare anyone for them to be friendly,:: again with a mental chuckle. Her comment about him seeing anyone made a slightly blush creep up his remaining cheeks. ::Again I'm called charming. I think that is like the third time I've been called that and I still not used to it. How this accent works I have no idea, but I guess it does,:: he said shrugging his shoulders at her. ::Well it's a good thing that this sexy accent doesn't sway you, but that's alright I'm good with being friends,:: he said with a chuckle and a wink ::As for those who like the accent, Paige certainly did and Rahne is married and Nori not being attracted to men is not so new, but power to her; nothing but the best for her. Besides that no other ladies have shown much interest, though it's still a little tough without a mouth:: again a wink ::though it's not to bad. That's good to hear that you are interested in making sure your friends are all healthy and in a good place. It's always good to have your friends care about you. Yeah a better place is a good place, especially for me after everything that happened. That trip was definitely required.:: Shrugging again he chuckled before running a hand through his hair. |
