Timeframe: May 12th, @ 8 pm "Hoo, wow," Madison whispered as he looked out from backstage at the modest crowd that was waiting for his presentation. The Stark Expo. Biggest exhibition for inventors, for weapons designers, computer programmers. It was a platform for all kinds of creators, a showcase to display innovations and talents and brilliance. In the face of all that, of all the various accomplished creators and science wunderkinds, Madison Jeffries felt out of his league. Unlike almost everyone here, Madison had a crutch he could rely on - did rely on - an inherent, in-born mutant gift for reshaping the raw materials of invention into whatever he wanted them to be. If he had an idea, it just took his own mutant talent and enough raw material to produce it. He didn't need factories or particularly high levels of investment capital even. Did that mean he was cheating? That he could craft in his basement things that would take anyone else so much money to even come close to making? Did it matter? He had something new, something he had been developing, had demonstrated in private before, and now he was ready for something bigger and showier. "Okay, well..." he said, swallowing a lump in his throat before stepping back and adjusting his tie. A suit. He never wore suits. Not normally, at least. The last time he wore a three-piece suit like this, he... he... honestly, he couldn't remember the last time he wore a three-piece suit. At all. "I got this, right? I mean, this isn't... I can handle talking in front of a big crowd. I could do that. I just have to... you know. Just have to say what I know. I can do that." He took a deep breath and let it out in a huff, a thin stream of air squeezed out between pursed lips. He'd done plenty of dangerous, terrifying things before. He'd fought a killer island. He resisted alien brainwashing with some help and played an important part in bringing them down. He'd helped to orchestrate an assault on Xavier's when it fell under the influence of ShadowX. And yet, the prospect of speaking in front of a crowd of people was petrifying. "Okay, I should just... I should just go out there, I think. I'm not early, am I?" a rove of his eyes over to the clock told him that he was - by just a few minutes. |

Madison and her weren't the closest of friends, but he had a talent she respected and had helped out the Xavier Institute during her time there. Though notably, what made Dani like Madison was that he was an intellect on every level imaginable and he never once made her feel stupid. She wasn’t learned in the traditional American academic sense. She literally dragged through high school and probably would have failed if it wasn’t for her mentors and friends. Traditional schooling was a bit of a nightmare for Dani. So, what was she doing here? Showing her support. She didn’t pretend to know what Madison had created or why it was important or even a big deal. Dani just felt he needed people at his event. His kinda people. The ones that had his back and she could offer that. He was sure he could bring in the intellectual snotty types on his own and probably handle them better than she could. Anyone who dared question her IQ was fixing to get punched in the face. Now how she snuck in back here, well that was another story, that Madison probably didn’t need to know about. She might have used her training to her advantage in what Scott would call, all the wrong ways, but her being here was quite harmless. She’d go back to the pleb sitting or wherever non-intellects sat during lectures. “Not early at all.” She smiled at him, not caring if she surprised him or not. Placing a hand on his shoulder she squeezed and let go. “I’m here for support. I won’t be able to sit in the front row or anything, but I’ll be here to listen. So if you hear a loud obnoxious woman cheering on. Totally me,” she said with a proud smirk. |

The Stark Expo of 2014 was well underway and into its 3rd day. Many great and new inventors alike had presented some of the greatest technological breakthroughs of our time and attendance was at an all time high. Although of course that part was because of the free attendance this year inviting everyone in New York and around the world who get themselves to New York free access to many of the Expos exhibits and presentations free of charge after the hell the city has been through. As Tony made his way through the backstage area he saw one of the presenters which was made obvious by the badge he wore on his suit that said as much along with his name Madison Jefferies. Tony knew of the man but could not recall much if any interaction with the man before. Last Tony knew he was working for X-Factor while they were under SHEILD Contract and saw his name on a few inventions while dealing with SHIELD but that was years ago. During his more recent dealing with X-Factor he knew Madison was no longer apart of Havok's team they splintered years ago once SHIELD dropped them. But what was the Stark Expo if it wasn't an excuse for Tony to mingle with the others he thought. As Tony walked up he heard the Native American looking woman backstage talking to him as he eavesdropped on the conversation and decided to be Tony Stark. “Hey! Hey! Madison good to see you buddy, How are you?” Tony asked jovially as if he and Madison were old friends. “Big crowd out there are you excited? Best numbers the Expo has ever done before. “And uh...” The lack of a name tag through him momentarily so before he made too much of a fool of himself he said. “And Pocahontas right?” Yeah that should help him not make a fool of himself he thought saying it without even thinking first but he quickly turned his attention back to Madison rather than dwell on the last comment. “Everyones waiting for you, It's a great crowd Obadiah was just out there he got them real pumped up some great stuff going on. Everyone out there hundreds of eyes focused all on you hanging on your every word. Bright lights, Cameras, TV news outlets its all pretty amazing huh? But don't worry about it... No pressure just head on out there and have some fun right?” Tony added with a bright smile. “Anyway I don't want hold you up too long I am sure you're raring to go right?” Tony concluded to Madison giving him a pat on his back as he turned his attention back to the woman. “You want a drink? I want another drink.” |

Madison glanced back to Miss Moonstar and nodded his head. He had support out here. Xavier's Institute had always been good to him, even though he'd never been a student, and had never taught there either. When he needed help, they were there for him. And when they needed his expertise, he did what he could to provide some. "Thanks," he said with a nod of his head, running his fingers through his hair with a huff of breath. "Yeah, I can do this. Just gotta..." And then Tony Stark showed up. As supportive as Miss Moonstar was, Stark was destructive. He seemed intent on psyching Madison out, and for a moment, it began to work. Everything Madison felt nervous about seemed amplified, magnified into something bigger than it was. But no, he had this. He had an idea, an innovation, and he was going to share it. "Maybe I'll grab a beer after the show," Madison said, taking in a deep breath and steeling his jaw. One. Two. Three. He stepped out onto the stage, squinting slightly in the light, a bit surprised at the pomp and circumstance of it all. The lights, the music, his name announced to applause, no matter how large or meager. It was a theatrical production and not what he was prepared for. No matter. He pulled a small handheld device out of his jacket pocket and looked it over - everything was in place. "Okay, uh... okay," he said, swallowing a lump in his throat. "It uh... it should come as no surprise to any of you in this audience that we now know that telepathic communication is a thing. It exists. It's real." He clicked a button, and the screen behind him that projected his image onto it was replaced with a digital scan of a brain. "The effect works not unlike a radio - a telepath is able to read minds due to the fact that our brains - all of them, emit electrical signals to the environment around them. You and I, those of us not gifted with the proper receivers and transmitters in our brains' physical makeup, can't comprehend those signals, but we can send them, and we do. And we have the hardware to receive signals. It's how a telepath can open channels of communication mind-to-mind, by accessing parts of our brains that we can't access on our own." As he spoke, specific sections of the brain modeled on the screen illuminated, showing possible sections that could have served as telepathic receivers and transmitters. "What uh... what I've done is studied the wavelengths that are necessary to telepathic signals and built an artificial transmitter, like this one right here," he tapped another button on his handheld device, causing a panel to slide open in the floor and a pedestal to arise from within - resting atop that panel was a helmet, one that covered eyes and ears. "And a receiver," another button caused another panel to slide open - a significantly larger one, that housed a roughly humanoid robot, slender in design, six feet in height and undecorated. Sleek and shiny, it stood at silent attention, gleaming in the lights of the stage. "Creating what is, as far as I know, the first remote control humanoid robot entirely controlled by the brain. And one of you in the audience tonight will be fortunate enough to become his first test pilot. Well, second. I tested it in my workshop. He's safe, I promise." |

“Pocahontas?” She groaned and took a step forward wanting to throttle Tony Stark, but he immediately ignored her and paid attention to Madison. She supposed she should have been honored by his presence or whatever, but her first impressions were that he just saw her as a poor little Indian girl and that didn’t exactly go over well. He screamed too much white privilege and though it had been years since she saw white people as her constant oppressors, Stark was doing a mighty good job of making her reconsider that line of thinking. “You want a drink? I want another drink.” “I think you drank plenty for the two of us.” She turned around and waited for Madison to get on stage before losing her temper with the infamous Tony Stark. “Are you crazy? The guy was okay and then you just freaked him out. Oh, if he does horribly I’m going to blame it on you,” she said poking his chest. She didn’t know if this was some sort of corporate sabotage strategy, so she turned around to listen to Madison to see where the presentation was headed. He talked about radio receivers, telepaths, and more technical jargon, but Dani wasn’t able to pay attention as she kept an eye on Stark. She put out her hand not wanting Stark to join the stage and take away the limelight from him. "Creating what is, as far as I know, the first remote control humanoid robot entirely controlled by the brain. And one of you in the audience tonight will be fortunate enough to become his first test pilot. Well, second. I tested it in my workshop. He's safe, I promise." Dani clapped and smiled at all the right moments and then turned to look at Tony, afraid of what was going through his mind. He looked like he had designs on Madison or just wanted a cheap publicity stunt whereas poor Madison actually worked for this moment. “Uh no. You are not getting anywhere near that robot Madison made. This is Madison’s time to shine. You want attention, go have an affair with a Kardashian, the tabloids will love you for it. Have a love child with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Just don’t be that guy. You know, the obnoxious guy that acts like a frat boy cause mom and dad didn’t hang up your finger paintings growing up.” She gave him a definitive stare, before she fretfully looked back at Madison and the audience wondering who would be volunteering for this. “I don’t like that face. Your face has the look of I just made another stupid decision. Please help me believe that celebrities committing mistakes is a stereotype and you won’t go out there and do your Tony Stark thing.” |

Madison Jefferies might have stood behind the curtain all day working up the courage to go out and present his project. But the insatiable drunken charm of Anthony Edward Stark was enough to drive any man away and make them wish they were anywhere else including on a stage under the bright lights talking in front of hundreds of people with all eyes upon you. Was that Tony's play in approaching Madison all along? Did he know the reclusive Box who normally hide within the safety and confines of his own lab would shy away of the bright lights and cameras and need an unnecessary push to get him on the stage. Or more simply did Tony just feel like being a jerk. Needless to say by time Tony spent more than 1 minute in Madison's presence he was more than willing to suck it up and hit the stage. However his lady friend seemed perfectly certain Tony was just a jerk as she took immediate um bridge to being called Pocahontas as Madison stepped out onto the stage to begin his presentation his lady friend dug right into Tony poking his chest as she made her point loud and clear as she admonished him for his treatment of Madison. While Madison's presentation began and she and Tony listened while he began Tony stepped forward for a closer look when Dani then tried to push Tony away from the stage out of fear he would steal Madisons spotlight. “You know what Pocahontas means? It was never the little Indians name really it was a nickname... who am I kidding of course your know what Pocahontas means.” Tony ended his train of thought there. “Look Sacajawea, you just need to lighten up. Enjoy yourself a little bit loosen up and have some fun.” Tony continued mustering a big smile. By no means was he endearing himself to the woman he had never met before and the absence of a presenters badge on her top gave Tony a lack of name to call her. “Maybe even tell me your name so I can stop calling you Hiawatha.” Tony loved the usage of nicknames for people especially when he didn't know their names himself but not always were his constituents equally amused by them as he was. “I mean its only fair you know who I am and I would like to know who you are, Even if you don't like the white man face. Maybe we can go smoke a peace pipe and put this behind us?” Tony concluded with a small grin. |
