Amara stepped out onto the sidewalk, finally escaping the massive throng of people trying to exit the movie theater once the cinema had finished. It wasn't very obvious how noisy the crowd was until she'd managed to pull free from them and escaped outdoors where the amount of people had greatly diminished.

She'd been taught about movie's long ago and had long since gotten past her theories of demons trapped in boxes or thin sheets of fabric. She'd long since learned the niceties of movie-going and now looked for one of the few that she'd come to the movie with. The one that she certainly hoped would come out first, though she had no doubts would find her. He always did.

It was a few months now, since their final trip to Nova Roma. Since she'd taken hand in hiding the existence of the city from the eyes and technology that the world had. There was no way now that they would ever find it except in memory, in remnants. She was kind of okay with that now. There would be no more need to be torn by obligation or duty to a life she wasn't certain about living. No more guilt about being away, living the life that she wanted and protecting an existence, a world much larger than the stone walls of Nova Roma.

Maybe Doug was right too. She'd been thinking about it for some time now, but why was she so hesitant? Doug had been right about that too. She felt a bit of heat start to work its way towards her face and so she busied herself with the disposal of her drink before she turned to try and spot that tall figure and wavy mop of hair in the throng of people spilling out of the building.

And come out he did, but he was not alone. Roberto meandered easily across the threshold of the building doors, his attention captured rather enthusiastically by one of their fellow peers at Xavier's, who seemed rather engrossed in discussing the movie they had just watched. It had been a fairly typical sci-fi thriller - stocked with beautiful visuals, explosive action sequences, inspired character design, and altogether lazy and poor writing. Roberto's favorite kind of movie.

"Yeah, but, really! When the thing did the thing with the mouth and..." Never having been one to master the turn of a phrase, Roberto turned to his usual stand-by - animating the action with as much enthusiasm and commitment the earnest man could muster. Which, turns out, was quite a lot. A few seconds later, he mimed a rather gruesome scene, where the alien life form had sprouted out of one of the disposable protagonist's mouth with his arm flailing to and fro. And when he was rewarded with a warm, exuberant laugh from his female coworker, all he could do was grin, proud.

It had been a trying couple of years. He bore the weight of the world on his shoulders, felt the heavy gloom and doom associated with constant peril, and heartbreak, and intense, crushing longing. But now? Now, there was a certain kind of levity to his actions. Perhaps it was the passage of time, or the lessons taught to him by circumstance and friends alike, but he felt older now, wiser. And for perhaps the first time in a long time, he felt at ease.

An ease which translated rather easily on his features as his eyes rove the crowds and finally fell upon the one he had been unwittingly looking for. Almost imperceptibly, his expression brightened, but it no longer held the same love-struck, helpless and distraught edge it might have once held in the times following the Revelation. Though his affections for her remained, a calming sense of maturity had tempered the intensity of his reactions to her; he had accepted this. The way things were. What she meant to him - and more importantly - what he was to her. It was no longer the torrid, complicated affair it had once been. It was easy. He knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, where he stood. And while that could have been disappointing, there was a certain freedom in the security.

And even if that was all he would ever be, that would be okay. Because he'd still be right there beside her in one way or another, no matter what. Because they'd still be going to the movies together, regardless of whether it was with a group of people or not. "Hey! S'cuz me," He dismissed himself from the girl he had been speaking to, not at all noticing her look of disappointment as he cut his way through the crowd to stand before Amara, all shining eyes and mischievous grins.

"So," he began, reflexively throwing an amiable arm around her slight shoulders as he walked forward. Apparently, he was not at all concerned with the others who had accompanied them on this journey - they'd catch up eventually. "On a scale of cool to cool, how cool was that movie, yeah?"

Amara noticed the tall figure walking with part of their group and could spot the flirtatious movements in the girl's body language. It was a common thing around Roberto, really. He was energetic, easy-going most of the time and especially right now he held a more mature air around him that seemed to only make him a more infectious person to be around. She knew without a shadow of a doubt what she meant to him, he'd been more than expressive about that since the day his feelings were thrown out of hiding by Manny. It was easy to muse that she knew it before, but just hadn't accepted it until it was spoken aloud.

He noticed her and that strange feeling in her stomach went away when he moved towards her, reminding her of all of that. She was glad, and had been for months, that he was so accepting of what she stated her feelings were. With line she drew between them so that they couldn't get any closer than that.

She briefly touched his arm that was around her and smiled up at him, her hand dropping to her side a little too quickly. "It was cool. Very unique, though might have had a few too many explosions. I'm sure that by the end of the week we will hear a very detailed review from a certain linguist." A bright grin flashed over her face and she started to walk, knowing the rest of their group would be along eventually. She wanted to leave them behind at least a little. "Did you like it?"

Tossing her nearly empty cup into the bin next to her she looked up at him and paused for a moment. Maybe now was the right time. Her blue eyes glanced back behind them to warily see how close the rest of their group was. "Hey... do you want to get out of here? I don't want to go home just yet."

It was soft and it was brief. But the deliberate touch was enough to prompt his stomach to flutter in a whirlwind of nervous excitement. He ignored it with practiced ease.

"Too many explosions? What! That's not a thing that can happen, 'Mara." Roberto chastised vehemently, turning an affronted stare over to the girl as though she had committed the most egregious of blasphemes. Despite his horror at that announcement though, he seemed to be willing enough to let her faux pas go without much more than a bemused shake of his head. "Auuugh, noooo." He complained as he rolled his eyes to the heavens, a good-natured smile on his face. "Leave it to Doug to turn a movie into a lecture. I dunno about you, but I don't want to have to take notes when I'm at the theaters. I want to just relax and see kick-ass things happen and pretty people doing sexy things."

When she turned to grin to him, the arm that wasn't preoccupied with being slung around her shoulders immediately shot into action, gesticulating wildly along with his words. "Pffft, did I like it? Is grass green? So, listen. I was thinking of what I wanted to be, when we're all like, retired from being super cool superheroes and all. And while Roberto da Costa, international entrepreneur is nice, Roberto da Costa, rogue space cowboy is so much cooler, right? I mean..." he affected a terrible accent - a facsimile of the one the protagonist of the movie had, and one that would have offended Sam on a personal level had he been around to hear it. "Space is mah finuhl frontier."

She threw her empty cup away, but then stopped walking. Attached to her, due to the arm situation, he was also brought to a confused, and also somewhat self-conscious halt. What, had he gone a bit too goofy with the impression there? Attentive, he noted the almost surreptitious glance she threw over her shoulder, and he slowly removed his arm from her shoulder, tossing his own look behind them for good measure, only to find nothing of note.

"What? Was I that bad?" He mused out loud, bewildered. But even as her explanation followed, he found it didn't do much to lift the mystique of her rather sudden - and somewhat uncharacteristic - spontaneity. "Get out of here? Like, now now? Well, Felicia wanted to..." he trailed off then, pursing his lips in thought, before training his eyes back on the Nova Roman. He smiled to her, that bright and cheery smile he reserved for her and her alone.

"Eh, why not? Got any place in mind? Cause if not, I know of some pretty cool places around here. I mean, I know you're not much of a drinker, but there's this sweet bar a few blocks away. We could go and...I dunno. Do whatever sober people do at bars." He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans, offering her a non-commital half-shrug in the process.
