Outside the office of Tony Stark

Obadiah Stane paced in solemn contemplation before the large window outside Stark's office. The entire time Tony had been missing in the desert, Miss Pepper Potts had been a gigantic pain in Stane's ass. Ever since Tony had returned and resumed leadership of the company, she had been intolerable. She turned up at the most inconvenient times, as though she had an uncanny knack for knowing when she wasn't wanted. She was always looking over Stane's shoulder and asking aroud to see what he'd been up to. More than once he'd caught her reading papers from his desk.

She wouldn't find anything though. Stane was far too careful for that. Besides, he had more than one office here in Stark Industries. There was the one that Pepper snooped through, complete with its harmless misinformation carefully placed to produce the most thorough impression of compliance with Tony's wishes, then there was the other office where his real work took place.

He had been disappointed to see Tony return alive, despite the miniaturized Stark reactor he developed and the impressive suit of mechanical armor that it powered. Stane often fantasized about plucking the glowing miracle of science from Tony's chest and letting him slowly die from the shrapnel that had failed to kill him like it was supposed to. A few millimeters to the right and Stane would be free now to run the company the way it should be. In his mind he was only taking back what was rightfully his before he lost it to Tony's father.

But now he was waiting outside of the little shit's office like some peasant waiting to see the king, all because Pepper had finally convinced Tony to have a word with him. Pepper had been hounding Stane to commit to an appointment with Tony. He'd managed to delay the meeting while Tony was occupied with the Stark Expo, but finally he'd been cornered without a convincing excuse to reschedule. Well he could act like the harmless grandfather they all thought he was, all except for Pepper anyway. He would smile and nod and throw in a bit of the doddering act while he was at it, just as he had done for years. Ostensibly he'd done nothing against Tony's newfound sense of morality. All of his betrayals were still secret. All of his illicit research was safe within Sector 16, his secret facility. Nothing could be proven. Of that he was absolutely certain.

Now he stood looking out through the window at the city far below him waiting for Tony to arrive. It wasn't a complete waste of time though. Tony was clearly working on something huge, possibly even bigger than the Iron Man suit. Stane's research team was good, but nobody thought up more revolutionary inventions than Tony Stark. He'd take the opportunity to poke around and see if he couldn't get Tony talk about it, then he would have a better idea of what to steal when the occasion presented itself.

It had been 2 weeks since the closing ceremonies of the Stark Expo, And had been weeks since there had been anymore hiccups with the Stark Satellite no one has seen hide nor hair from any of the Future X-Men in a few weeks either. Tony hoped that meant any of the potential issues with the Stark Satellite had been sorted out and the universe some how was able to balance itself out and he could resume progress on the Satellite as long as his various other projects including the nanite technology he was determined to make work to show Sage he was on par with her as far as nanotechnology went.

However while Tony was focused on all of his projects and episodes with Future X-Men there seemed to be some kind of internal strife amidst Stark Industries namely between Virginia 'Pepper' Potts and Obadiah Stane. Pepper has had her eye on Obadiah for sometime now upset with his attitude and some of the decisions he had been making. She voiced her concerns to Tony Stark more than a few times over the past few months but Tony had been so busy with everything since his unwilling participation with the Illuminati and subsequent incarceration at the hands of SHIELD.

Never the less the Stane issue needed to be settled so Tony could get back to his own business. Tony had a great relationship with Obadiah for many years in a lot of ways he was perceived as a second father for Tony. However it was always an awkward time when Tony had to discuss things like this with Obadiah generally when there was an awkward or uncomfortable business situation Tony could hide behind Obadiah and have him talk to the person involved but when the issue is with Obadiah himself it made Tony cringe.

So while Obadiah waited outside Tony's office he opened the door and gave Obadiah his warmest welcome. “Obie!” Tony said as he embraced the older man in a quick bro-hug before inviting him into his office. “Come on in Obie, How have you been? Everything going okay?” Tony asked as he walked across the office to his seat behind the large desk in the middle of the room. “Drink?” Tony said as he pulled a bottle out from a draw on the bottom of his desk.
