Reality Warping/ Nice Pashmina

Date: August 11th 2014 Time: Late Afternoon Time until wedding: T-minus 33 days. There was a month to go until the big day, was Billy ready for it? Well if you looked at the jobs that needed to be done - the suits had been got, the best (wo)men had been asked, the rings had been got and just about everything that needed to be organised had been organised, but that didn't mean that Billy felt like he was ready. The past eighteen months had seen so much growth for the apprentice to the Sorceror Supreme, it had been almost eighteen months ago exactly that Billy had been sat in this park exactly where he finally accepted that he needed help with his powers and he became the apprentice to Doctor Strange, perhaps to the chagrin of his mother. Now though he was no longer unsure of his future, the confidence in his own powers was growing, and he knew that he had a role to play in the world that was not as destructive as others had led him to believe it was. That hadn't been the only change that he had gone through in the past year though, there was the revelation of his father, the stand off with Doom, and now on top of that William Kaplan was soon to be becoming William Kaplan-Altman. Though the young sorceror had tried to figure a way of getting all of his family names to work but William Kaplan-Maximoff-Williams-Altman was perhaps a bit of a stretch, even for someone with a family history like Billy's own. The trip to the park had been something of an unplanned outing, Billy had left the Sanctum Sanctorum some time ago and rather than go straight home, the reality warper decided instead to go to the park and make the most of the summer heat. Just like so many other New Yorkers and tourists were choosing to do today, it was that time of year, and the world was not at risk from destruction, which saw even more people willing to venture outside and make the most of a world that was not going to throw them in harms way. Billy was not here to meet with anyone though, it was more a treat for him where he could watch the world go by without a care in the world. Finding his usual spot beneath a particular shady tree, Billy sat with the trunk to his back. He could sit and watch the world go by here, all day every day. Watching as the various threads of reality intertwined with one another as people went about their daily business without so much as a care in the world. Lifting one of the earbuds that hung around his neck, he placed it into his right ear before reaching for the cell phone they were connected to and hit play as the indie folk tones of Vance Joy began to fill his ear. There really was no other place on the planet that the reality warper wanted to be right now, and there was no way that the location could be improved, though he could appreciate a cool refreshing drink with one of those little umbrellas an pieces of chopped fruit in right about now. |

Walking at a leisure pace, Clarice strolled along the cement pavement in Central Park. The air was warm and crisp, a light breeze eminent, causing the leaves to shake and rustle. The skies were partially clear, filled somewhat by large, white, fluffy cumulonimbus clouds, slowly drifting overhead as they cast shade down on the Earth. Overall, it was an absolutely beautiful summer day, and it seemed that the teleporter wasn’t the only one out enjoying it. People filled the park; people were lined up at ice cream stands and hot dog courts, the jungle gyms and other play areas were full of children, and even street performers were out, putting on their shows for tips. Having cleared her days agenda, Blink had gotten dressed and all fixed up, checked out an image inducer, and took to the city. Recently her days had been rather long and full of activity. Between taking part in Legacy Squad assignments, extensive training sessions for self-improvement, and other everyday tasks, free time wasn’t something she had easily come across in a while. Everyone needed a little break, so today she was getting hers. The first little bit of her adventure was in Times Square after catching a ride from a subway stop a few miles away, in which she’d teleported to. Times Square was just fascinating. You could visit the area every day and see something new and exciting. The shops were nice too, but the girl wasn’t in the mood to visit each and every one. Instead, she just window shopped as she trudged onwards, headed towards Central Park. A stop along the way resulted in a late lunch at an Italian restaurant, where she delightfully chowed down on salad, pasta, and breadsticks. Having finally made it to the park, the girl set out to explore. In all her years at the institute and the many times she’d come into the city, never had she actually gotten to see the entirety of the park. Truthfully, seeing it all would take at least an entire day, but she was going to see what she could in the bit of time she had left. Using a small map of the park, the teleporter made her way to some of the more well-known areas of the park, such as the carousel and Bethesda Fountain seen in so many films. It was so beautiful there, and as much as there was left for her to see, it was getting a bit late into the afternoon and she didn’t care to be out past dark. Folding the map up, Blink moved forward, the subway her next destination. As she walked, she looked around at the canopy of trees towering above her, following the limbs all the way down to their massive bases. One particular tree caught her attention though, as there was a man resting against it, and a familiar one at that. There at the base of this tree sat none other than Wiccan himself. Though she personally had never actually engaged in conversation with him before, she’d definitely seen him around the institute many times, crossing paths in the hallways and such. In fact, news of his engagement and upcoming wedding had been making their way through the school. She debated on whether or not to approach him. He seemed content just sitting there, listening to his music. At the same time, she did want to congratulate him. Though, he probably wouldn’t recognize her, especially in a more human-like form, she decided to go talk to him. ‘Clarice, are you really doing this?’ she thought to herself as she approached the dark-haired boy. Randomly going up to someone she only sort of new to speak with them was not by any means in her comfort zone, but yet here she was, doing just that. Stopping just a few feet away from him, she looked down, grinning at him. Hoping he could hear her through his earbuds, she spoke. “Hello, you’re Billy, right?” She knew it was him, it had to be. Honestly, she had no idea how to bring up conversation, so she found that made fit. “I’m Clarice, but you may know me better as Blink.” She smiled, crossing her fingers she wasn’t making a huge fool out of herself. |

'Woah-oh, I'm an alien, I'm a legal alien...' Strolling through Central Park, Eddie Campbell was enjoying the bright summer sunshine that filled the air with a lovely warmness that gave Eddie that feeling of contentment he loved to feel. The light that emitted from the Earth's nearest star filled Eddie's body with energy and sustenance, and it made him feel happy in his heart. Today, he indeed was an Englishman in New York, and the song was bouncing around inside his head as it had been since that morning when he'd decided to venture into the City to enjoy a break from the confines of his room back at the Institute. This was the perfect day for the young mutant; clear blue skies, shiny-happy people passing by, lovely warm temperatures and the sun's rays soaking up inside of him. Sighing with a soothing contented tone as he walked, Eddie noticed a family enjoying a picnic on the luscious green grass, a father laughing as his wife had ice-cream tossed at her by their baby daughter. The family were laughing at the incident, and Eddie couldn't help but laugh along as he passed. Days like this really made Eddie feel glad to be alive, which was in contrast to how he had felt months before. He was beginning to feel more comfortable at the school and had made several friends there over the last couple of months. He enjoyed getting to know the people who he was sharing his life with; understanding the different journeys that others in his position had had to endure to get to where they had were. The school was full of interesting individuals who all had their own stories to tell, mutants with powers and abilities that affected an afflicted their lives in so many different ways. Eddie had always enjoyed getting to know what made others tick, and surrounded by the weird and wonderful as he was at the school, the young Englishman had learnt so much about what it really meant to be a mutant. As Eddie walked through the park, he noticed to his left a couple of people he thought he recognised from back at the school. Stopping still and squinting to see if he indeed did know them, Eddie wondered if he should himself go over and say hello. Propped up against a tree, one was the young man known as Wiccan, a native of New York who had always been friendly when passing by at the school. The girl speaking to William had the unmistakably striking look of one Clarice Ferguson, a member of the Legacy Squad, and someone who the young English mutant hadn't yet had the pleasure of speaking to. 'I suppose I should go over and say hello, it'd be rude not to at least do that...' the small youngster stroked his chin as he decided to go ahead and head over to the pair. Making friends had been tough for Eddie at first, but he had grown in confidence since his arrival a few months before, and this was an opportunity for him to at least acquaint himself with a couple more people. As he approached, he tried to catch their attention with a kind of half-wave of his hand and a smiling nod. "Hey there, you two enjoying the sunshine?" Eddie grinned, his English accent speaking the words softly. Hoping that he wasn't interrupting the pair from their conversation, and looking around the park at all of the people enjoying their lives, Eddie introduced himself properly. "I'm Eddie, by the way. You might've seen me at the school..?" Eddie stood and hoped that he had actually been seen at the school, as he would have been embarrassed if the pair couldn't even remember who he was! "Beautiful day today, isn't it?" Turning to his new acquaintances, Eddie tried to spark off a conversation, wondering if his presence would be appreciated or not. Standing there, smiling awkwardly, the Englishman tried his best to look as friendly and inoffensive as he could, which was never that hard for the small, unassuming mutant. |

Clarice may have been wearing an image inducer, and Billy may not have been able to see her true form beneath the illusion, that would take active use of his powers which he really did not see as necessary right now, the threads of reality that spun around her were familiar to him - it was not completely different to reading a book and he recognised these particular threads from his time around the school. They were not so familiar to him like his own, Teddy's, Tommy's or anyone else that were incredibly close to him, but they were familiar enough for him to notice. Removing the headphone from his ear, Billy looked up to Clarice with a soft, welcoming smile. If he had wanted total peace and quiet h would have gone somewhere else, or created somewhere else. It wasn't like he was restricted to the city. He could go anywhere he wanted with a simple thought and a few well spoken words. "Hello Clarice and yes I'm Billy." Adjusting himself to sit that little bit more up right. "Want to pull up some grass?" He gestured to empty space that was around him, it wasn't like he was expecting anyone else and it wasn't like there was any real lack of room in the park or around him for that matter. Though just as soon as he had thought that he wasn't expecting anyone, the world threw another student from the school into his path. "Hey Eddie." Again the second student was someone that Billy was slightly familiar with, even if they were not the closest of friends, but then that circle was very small for Billy. "It's a great day, though I happen to prefer the park when there's a good few inches of snow, but Summer is a close second for my favourite season to be in New York. "So what brings you both to the city?" Tilting his head to the side as he looked between both of the students. Since everyone had returned to the school, it wasn't all that common to see the X-Students in the city unless there was a specific trip, or world altering event going on that required X-Intervention. |

I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, Those words carried through the ether and eventually resonated in the mind of Wanda Maximoff, who felt that wandering as a cloud sounded wonderful. Which is not to say that she transformed herself into a cloud and hovered in the sky; that would have been silly. After giving Simon a distracted good-bye kiss, Wanda wandered aimlessly in the city. She wandered without regard to her safety or surroundings, crossing streets on red lights or in front of traffic narrowly avoiding getting hit, but avoid it, she always did. Like her brother, Wanda lived with her powers always ‘on’ and the world she sometimes perceived and the one around her weren’t always the same. What alien things she saw and along what alien landscapes she walked, were unknown. As Wanda wandered, minor miracles traced her journey. While walking beside a worried man in a new business suit, clearly something he’d just bought, the man received a call, he got the job he’d been praying to get. When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Smiling at things unseen, Wanda walked past a thin, almost skeletal woman with sunken, haunted eyes and hands that badly shook as she tried to put the flame of her lighter to the cigarette dangling in her lips. Fifteen blocks away, the angry man she lives with paced the floor of their apartment, his hands clenching into fists then unclenching, clenching, unclenching; until he gasped, his hand clutched at his chest, then he dropped dead. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. Wanda’s steps brought her to Central Park, where a small group of poets were having a fun time reciting poems aloud. The waves beside them danced, but they Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee; A poet could not be but gay, In such a jocund company! I gazed—and gazed—but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: From her pocket, Wanda withdrew the cellphone that her sons had given her months ago; whether it had been there moments before, one couldn’t say, but she had a desire for Billy’s company. By a miracle, her finger hit the correct auto-dial button. When he answered, she replied with the words flowing through her mind. “For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.” By the edge of the water, thousands of daffodil heads pushed out of the mud, reached for the sun, and opened their golden yellow petals, their trumpets turned like eyes toward Billy. Wanda smiled warmly and in that instant she appeared, sitting and leaning against the other side of the tree Billy was leaning against. “My dear Billy, I feel you near,” she said, grinning into the cellphone. |

The reality warper removed one of his headphones, smiling at the girl. "Hello Clarice and yes I'm Billy." Oh goody, she hadn’t made a fool of herself! Trying to explain to a stranger who a Billy was or why she considered herself ‘Blink’ would have been rather embarrassing. Thank goodness for good judgment. "Want to pull up some grass?" The dark-headed boy motioned at the area next to him. “Sure.” Clarice chuckled lightly, walking over towards him, lowering herself to sit next to him. She sat, left lug tucked under her right, it being outstretched. Her arms were both behind her body, palms facing inward, allowing her to lean back. Yes, she wanted to get home before it was dark, but stopping to chat with him wouldn’t hurt anything. Just as she was about to speak, another voice spoke up, this one unfamiliar to her. Turning to face the direction in which it came. Approaching the two was another boy, small in size. His face was somewhat familiar, yet she couldn’t put a name to it. "I'm Eddie, by the way. You might've seen me at the school..?" “I thought I recognized you from somewhere. I’m Clarice.” She had been right; she had seen him before, and at the school of all places. She grinned at him, sitting up a bit. "Beautiful day today, isn't it?" “It’s absolutely lovely. I couldn’t have asked for a better day to come to the city, especially now that I’ve bumped into you two.” It was a coincidence, three members of the institute all randomly coming across each other in town. It was a pleasant surprise though. "So what brings you both to the city?" Billy proceeded to ask. “Well, my schedule has been pretty packed lately and I haven’t had much time to get out. So I thought a day to myself would be nice. Yourself?” Little did she know that Wiccan lived not too far from the park. Moments later, movement in front of Billy and herself caught her attention, peering down to see thousands of daffodils grow from mud. The teleporter only assumed this was Billy’s doing. Little did she know it was the Scarlet Witch’s doing. The woman’s figure appeared out of nowhere on the other side of Billy, causing Clarice to jerk in shock. Once taking a deep breath, she smirked. “Hello Mrs. Maximoff, it’s a pleasure seeing you.” |

"I've just finished for the day with Doctor Strange, and so I thought I would escape here for a while." He smiled as he explained while it was here. "I would have normally gone straight back to Mutant Town after finishing, but with all the wedding planning that is going on at the moment I felt like a bit of escape." Who would have thought that Billy would grow tired of planning a party? It wasn't like he'd been thinking his ideal wedding through for years, and knew exactly what he had wanted. However when it came to actually doing the thing? That was an entirely different ball game, even when it came to having multitudes of people who were willing to help sort the varying bits and pieces out for the wedding. "How are things at the school? I've been kept somewhat busy with my studies to be able to get back there much lately." That and the fact that there had been the whole, coming face to face with his future thing that had kept him plenty of busy. It wasn't the most ideal situation for Billy right now, who wanted to keep as much balance between the two halves of his life, but he was learning that there had to be a certain amount of fluidity and things could not remain the same as they had always been forever. As they spoke the voice of Yoda announcing that Billy's phone was ringing and that he needed to pick up his phone began to fill the small space that they were sat in. "Sorry I'll just be a moment." The reality warper quickly ferreted around in his pocket and removed the cell phone and saw the caller ID which made him instantly smile. The twins had bought the phone for their mom in an effort to be able to remain in better contact with her, and to see her using it, showed that it had been a good decision at the time. Pressing the answer button, the phone instantly went onto speaker phone and the words of the poem came out of the speaker. That wasn't the only thing that he noticed, the subtle workings of a reality warper were happening as the poem spoke and Billy's eyes shifted towards the lake where the large and sudden bloom of daffodils forced the way from their hibernation and revealed to the world their bloom, and all of whom seemed to be turning their flowers to face towards Billy. Suddenly there was a fourth voice in the area, and Billy instantly leaned around the tree to look at his mom. "Funny because I feel you near too mom." Laughing a little he placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. "The flowers are lovely mom." Billy now shifting his position a little so that everyone could be included. "Mom this is Clarice. She's at the school." Billy then turned back to Clarice, "This is my mom. She has very green fingers." Still grinning, thinking he was brilliantly funny. |

Wanda turned to face the little group, her son and kids from the school, and shifted closer to him, so that they were shoulder to shoulder and laid her head briefly against his shoulder, her little boy all grown up. She was all smiles and in a good mood. “They seem to be good flowers. Very happy and sunny. I heard them talking. So happy. I just had see the day they were talking about so much; they right, it is good. I know if the flowers talk so much to your aunt Avery. I do not remember if she has ever said,” Wanda paused thoughtfully. Her eyes rolled up the branches swaying in the wind, but really watching the reality flow and weave and ripple around them, strings of the past and currents of the random twists together into something new. She hooked her arm around Billy’s and lovingly patted his arm. “Is everything getting too,” she began then her gaze fell on Clarice and she blinked, several long blinks. “Hello Mrs. Maximoff, it’s a pleasure seeing you.” The girl said and Billy added more details, "Mom this is Clarice. She's at the school.” And to the girl, “This is my mom. She has very green fingers." She returned the girl’s smile dubiously, “When I see you, my eyes tell me one thing but what I know tells me something else. It tells me beautiful skin and hair the color of clouds when the red light of the sun shines on them at dusk. And eyes the bright green of lily pads.” Lifting her hand, a strange scarlet mist formed around her hand, and when she passed her hand between them, as though she were wiping away dust from a window she was trying to look through. A scarlet energy trail stayed, hovering in the air for Wanda to peer through, then it faded. “Space,” she said. “You fold distance like a piece of paper and where the two points come together, you can pass through.” She shook her head, “Not illusions. But you look…” |

The reality warper went on to describe why he was currently in the park, causing Clarice to sit up quickly. His wedding, she’d almost forgotten about that! How that was possible was a mystery. It was that very matter that had his name floating around the school recently. As soon as he ended, she chimed in. “By the way, congratulations! I’m very happy for the two of you. I don’t know Ted that well but I do know he thinks the world of you.” It was true; she had only spoken to the Skrull boy once in the past year. Billy had been mentioned in their conversation, and when he was, a certain look came over Ted that made it obvious; he loved this man. “I can imagine all the planning is tiring but it’ll be worth it in the end.” The summer breeze picked up, causing the teleporter’s hair to blow into her face. As she brushed it away from her hair and behind her ear, Billy asked about the school. “Things have actually been pretty good. Some of the students just got back from a field trip to Atlantis.” She took a moment to think, trying to recall any notable events that he might have missed. “Oh, an Atlantean mutant came back with them. So that’s been… interesting. Other than that, not a whole lot.” Wanda had gotten comfortable near them, leaning against her son. She was about to say something when the sight of Clarice seemed to interrupt her. Wiccan’s comment on the Scarlet Witch having a green thumb brought a grin to her face, though still curious as to what Wanda was staring at her for. The dark-haired woman finally returned her grin, but what came next she did not expect. The woman was capable of seeing right through the illusions cast around Blink. This was obvious by the way she described her features. Then came a misty, glowing hand, making the girl a bit uneasy. While she knew Wanda (probably) wouldn’t harm her, she was still a bit worried. Many people were scared of mutants with physical mutations. However, it wasn’t the physically mutated they should worry about. Little did they know, there were mutants capable of changing history with the blink of an eye; Billy and Wanda being among those who could do just so. The power they held was beautiful and scary all at once, but that was the case with most mutations. The mist soon faded away, reassuring Clarice that she was not about to be erased from existence or anything of the sort. All Wanda simply seemed to do was discover the pink-skinned girl’s mutation, or so Clarice thought. Her description was once again accurate, but her last sentence only confused the girl. What did she mean by i“Not illusions. But you look…”? A look of confusion spread across the teleporter’s face, she then looking over at Billy, wondering if he understood just what she meant. |
