Date: July 10, 2014 Time: 7:30 AM - Most of the Day Location: Quite a few places... The lime green, pupil-less eyes belonging to none other than Clarice Ferguson flickered open slowly, peering over at the alarm clock stationed on her nightstand. 6:29 AM it read, and but not ten seconds later it began to ring as the screen changed to show 6:30. Lifting her arm, her pink hand lowered against the top of the clock, turning off the alarm. Sleepily sitting up, the girl yawned, stretching her arms out to her sides as she did so. After kicking her blankets back she swung her legs over her bed, hopping out and standing up. She grabbed her bag of toiletries off of her dresser and took towards the hall, headed towards the bathroom. Clarice had a long day planned ahead of her. Today was to be spent devoted solely to her abilities. Typically, she’d be practicing in the Danger Room or set up objects around the grounds, teleporting to each and seeing how quick she could reach them all. She would have been doing those very, but recently, her mind had become weighed down by thoughts of self-judgment, leading her to a change of plans. These thoughts had come into existence and slowly built up ever since her latest journey to the Savage Land. One of her first real missions, and much had gone wrong. For starters, after a total of twenty-four ranged teleportations, she got a nose bleed and almost passed out. The entire group had to stop and wait for her to get all doctored up. The incident only embarrassed her weakness getting the best of her in front of her superiors. Later on in the journey, the Brotherhood brought about a stampede of exotic wildlife, in which she and Avery took to a tree for safety. While the men were fending off the dangers, the two women were attacked by pterodactyls, Captain Britain saving them from one of the two, Blink taking the other out. She felt useless, wishing that she had been capable of aiding the men or helping Loosestrife on her attack against the villains. A spell of drowsiness swept over the group, the girl waking up confined in a cage, temporarily stripped of her powers. It was awful, being so helpless. Clarice sought to improve due to these events. Her overall strength and agility could use some improvement. At the same time, so could the mutant side of her. Spending a good chunk of her life at the institute, she'd always heard stories of other teleporters capable of reaching distances across the globe, even to the moon, with a single port. This was a feat that she dreamed of overcoming, but wasn't even sure if it was possible. Everyone's X-Gene permitted something different, and if that wasn't what hers permitted her to do, then that was just it. But she could definitely try to reach it. That’s what led her to seek out the help of Sarah Vale. No, the other Legacy Squad member wasn’t a teleporter or anything of the sort. Though, with the help of her gift and knowledge of technology, she’d be able to offer Clarice help in an entirely different manner. Once she had showered and prepped herself, the teleporter began her trip back to her room. Now inside, she set her bag back on her dresser, then opening one of the drawers, revealing her many uniforms. Having dug up her standard black and yellow uniform, she closed the drawer and began to change. Zipping it up, she untucked her ponytail from the back, proceeding to dig the matching boots out from her closet. Now that those were on, she grabbed the backpack she’d packed a change of clothes in the night before, slung it over her shoulder, and took towards the hall once more. A short walk led Blink to the cafetorium. Given the time, it was packed full of other students and mansionites. Their plan included leaving no later than 7:30. With that in mind, she hopped right in line. As she made her way through, she grabbed two water bottles, an apple, a snack-size pack of mixed nuts, and a bagel. It was as she was headed to the check-out that she finally saw Sarah. |

When Blink had approached her about wanting help with her powers, Sarah had been a bit confused at first. She wasn’t a teleporter, so she would’ve thought Clarice would go to someone like Kurt for help. Then again, in a different way, it made sense. Sarah could easily chart their progress, distance, and locations as they teleported, making it easier to see where Clarice struggled, and how far she could push herself. While usually this would be done in a more controlled environment, there weren’t many ways they could manage that when distance was one of the things Blink wanted to work on. So she’d mapped out a decent plan of attack for the day the night before. That morning, she woke up earlier than usual, much to her bed’s sadness. Showering, braiding her hair neatly, and packing a few things into her bag, she got dressed. The uniform was her usual one, which fortunately wasn’t all that conspicuous. Black pants, a black shirt and jacket, her silver X-belt, and a pair of rubber soled boots. Due to her tendency to work with wiring and electronics, her suit was more oriented towards working with devices, not athletics and acrobatics. There were places on her belt for her phone, a few tools, and she carried a backpack with a change of clothes, a tablet, notebook and a few other things. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she flopped into a chair in the cafeteria, tiredly sipping a cup of coffee, stirring a bowl of cereal and flicking through her tablet screen thoughtfully. A map, glancing through different sites, scanning the security systems of the school as she ate her cereal. She had no idea how long they’d be at this today, although she imagined they’d be at it for a while. She had a few snacks packed into her bag, as well as a bottle of water. The change of clothes would mean that if they needed to get into a city for lunch, she’d blend in. And of course, she had a holo-watch in there as well for Clarice, if they came into a populated area. Hopefully they wouldn’t need it for the regular training. She’d charted some good, empty locations to aim at, so that they wouldn’t be seen randomly appearing out of portals in crowded locations. Noticing Clarice, she waved, finishing off her cereal and coffee and standing with a stretch, making her way over to the brightly colored mutant with a smile. “You still need to eat, or should we get started? I’ve got a few energy and protein bars in my bag, but you should eat breakfast. I have a bunch of isolated locations mapped out that we can work with, cause the last thing we need is to randomly appear in the middle of a crowded street.” The technopath grinned, grabbing a few pieces of fruit and stuffing them into her pack. “You got a change of clothes, right? Oh! And here,” Spinning the bag around, she reached in and pulled out the holo-watch, handing it to Clarice. “You don’t need to turn it on now, but just in case. Especially so we can maybe hit up a city and get lunch later, if we’re still out.” Tugging out the tablet, she pulled up the map, a the noted locations showing up with little blips on the screen. “Here, take a look. Any locations strike your interest?” She’d picked some that were closer, others further away. Middle of nowhere, middle of a cornfield, top of an isolated, rather short mountain…An abandoned theme park, an abandoned medical facility. Places where the sudden appearance of two young women simply wouldn’t be noticed. Okay, maybe she should’ve noted less abandoned buildings and facilities, but those were just always so fascinating, and to not have to break in…Yeah, maybe she’d try to convince Clarice to go to a few, just for fun. Grinning brightly at the teleporter, she let her look at the map as they walked outside. |

Clarice walked over towards the end of the line, insuring there was nothing else she wanted to snack on as the day went on. She’d seen Sarah wave, but had no clue she had gotten up and began to make her way over to the teleporter. As the girl turned to face the vast number of tables, she was surprised to see the technopath standing right in front of her. “Well, good morning to you.” she greeted with a smirk, “Yeah, if you don’t mind. Teleporting as much as we will on an empty stomach may not be a great idea.” Sarah seemed to be looking forward to the day’s adventure, which made Clarice happy. “Oh, awesome. We’ll go take a look in just a sec.” Looking down in her arms, she examined all her snacks once more, realizing she hadn’t grabbed anything to eat now. “I’m going to go set my stuff down real quick. Be right back.” Walking over to the table she’d seen the brunette sitting at, she placed her backpack on the back of her chair, hanging by the two straps. After placing her snacks and water bottle on the table, she made back towards the line of people, squeezing in to grab a warm plate of scrambled eggs, toast, and sausage links. In a mini-fridge placed atop of the counter were small cartons of milk, Blink grabbing one of them. Closing the tiny door, making sure it sealed shut to preserve the cool temperature within it, she then left the line to find Sarah had already returned to their table. The teleporter followed suit, returning to the table where she placed her plate and milk carton in front of her seat. Once there, the technopath handed over an image inducer, a device Clarice honestly was accustomed to. As much as she had to check those things out, she wondered why they didn’t just assign them to those needing them. “Thanks for picking that up for me.” She began to dig into her breakfast, starting with her toast. As she began to munch down, Sarah pulled out her tablet. Its dark screen flickered to life, revealing a map with several pinpoints on it. By seeing this, one thing was clear: Sarah had done her homework. She had invested who knows how much time into this and was devoting an entire day to aid the fellow Legacy Squader. For many years of her life, Clarice had never known friendship. Never did she have people her age to confide in or hang out with. Sarah was just a prime example of how far she’d come. Lime green, pupil-less eyes scanned the device in the technopath’s hand. There were several locations, but one seemed to stick out in Blink’s mind. “How about that one?” she said after swallowing a mouthful eggs, pointing at a pin in Pennsylvania. “It isn’t that far but it’d be a good warm-up.” They’d settled on the location, the teleporter took the last few bites of her sausage before rising from her seat. “Much better,” she said in reference to her now full stomach, “Are you ready?” She grabbed her backpack and strung it off the chair, unzipping it. The apples, nut-mix, and water bottle were then tossed in, she proceeding to zip the bag back up. The girl then took her plate and empty milk carton over to a trash bin, dumping her leftover food and the cartons in it. She then placed the plate on a stack of other dirty ones before heading out of the cafetorium, Sarah at her side. A short walk lead the two girls to a door leading to the school grounds. Clarice pushed it open, holding it for Sarah, then proceeding down the few stairs. The school had rules and policies on power usage within the mansion. Opening a portal in the middle of the cafetorium or even a hallway was bound to be a big no, and by no means did she want them to get in trouble. To ensure the safety of everyone, she figured it was best to start off outside in the open. The pink-skinned girl walked several yards out onto the beautiful, green grass before turning to look at Sarah. “All set?” she asked. Once the brunette had assured her that she was ready, Clarice nodded. Turning on her heels, she took a breath before lifting her hand, extending her fingers outward. A bright glow of pink energy began to appear, growing bigger into the shape of a javelin. Once the crystal shard had completely produced, it dropped into her hand, she gripping it tightly. A simple toss of the weapon lead to a large burst. In front of the two, a portal formed. It was somewhat large, having a diameter of eight feet. Pink energetic swirls indicated its outer edges. Within the border, their stop could be seen; a place abundant with trees. Without hesitation, the girl stepped through the portal. |

Sarah had figured Clarice would want to eat something. Hell, she was still surprised the teleporter had been willing to get up this early to do this. A part of Sarah had been grumbly and demanding to stay in bed this morning, but she’d gotten pretty good at ignoring it, and she’d gotten a good night’s sleep anyways. Grinning, Sarah followed her, grabbing a little bit more to eat and sitting back down, chewing thoughtfully and letting Clarice finish up. “No problem, I figured I’d grab one just in case. Hopefully we won’t need up, but better to be safe.” Handing over the holo-watch, the technopath sat back, letting Clarice browse over the destinations. Some closer than others, some a good distance away. Having access to the Danger Room statuses, Sarah knew approximately how good Clarice’s distance was with her teleportations. She’d chosen a few in-range spots, a few out-of-range locations, and a few that would need at least two or more hops to reach. Glancing at the spot Clarice pointed to, the location popped up on screen. Orchard, around Allentown Pennsylvania. Quiet spot, not much traffic, should be easy enough to avoid notice if they appeared in the middle of the orchard. Nodding in agreement with the choice, she tugged the tablet back, quietly slinging her backpack over her shoulder and following the other girl outside. “Alright, so a few warm up jumps, then we’ll get to really testing out your limits. Whenever you’re ready.” Following Clarice, she nodded and saluted with a grin, stretching her arms over her head and sliding the tablet into her cross body bag. Watching with interest as Clarice created a javelin, tossing it and creating a gorgeous looking portal. God, Sarah never got tired of seeing that. Without hesitation, she stepped through, coming out on the other side deep inside a large, tree filled orchard, the limbs heavy with fruit. Inhaling the sweet smell of apples, she pulled the tablet out again, pulling up their coordinates. “Just over 150 miles from home, not bad. Feel like going bigger, or do you need another warm-up?” The technopath asked, pulling up the map and offering it to the teleporter again. A few different places popped up; abandoned schools and mental facilities, an old turn of the century cemetery, an abandoned quarry. And of course a few other options, some less historical than others, but Sarah liked the idea of keeping this well rounded. Might as well learn some fun history while doing this. |

Trees, trees, and more trees. The portal she had opened led them to the heart of what seemed to be an apple orchard. The sweet smell of the gorgeous red fruit was thick through the air. The teleporter stood motionless, filling her nostrils with the scent as she studied the area around her. The tree line immediately around them was thick, leading the girl to wonder just how large of an orchard this was. Once she knew Sarah had crossed through, Clarice closed the portal, the familiar 'blink' sound ringing in the air as it disappeared into nothingness. A portal only three feet in diameter formed at face height, a similar one opening several hundred feet up in the air. Lime green eyes stared through the portal, amazed by what they saw. A blanket of green with red polka dots practically covered the earth below for thousands of yards. "Sarah, come take a look at this!" she stated, looking over her shoulder at the technopath. "It's amazing, isn't it?" Once the brunette-haired girl was done peering through, the portal closed. Once the excitement of the location had passed, Network began to read off the statistics. Around one hundred and fifty miles crossed in a matter of seconds. Now matter how long she'd had the mutation, the thrill of it had yet to pass. The pink-skinned girl was proud and influenced of her ability of fast-travel; it was truly a gift. It was her love of this ability that led the two mutants to that very orchard. She'd heard of the great feats other teleporters had managed. She greatly desired to become one of such power. One hundred and fifty was no sweat; it was the bigger jumps that had her struggling, hence the point of today's journey. "I'm thinking one more warm-up and I'll be good." she called back to Sarah, wriggling her backpack off of her shoulders as she approached one of the many trees. Rising up on her tip-toes, the girl plucked two apples off of the tree, placing one in her backpack. She returned to Sarah, handing her the other. "Alright, so where next..." Network handed her the tablet, several other pinpoints around them. Clarice's eyes flickered across the screen. One red pin grabbed her attention, leading her to tap on it. A box giving details of the location opened above it. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, located in Weston, West Virginia. As she read the description, a wide smile crept across her face. Looking back at Sarah, she handed her the tablet, chuckling. "Lets go ghost hunting." The girl repeated her portal-opening process, the javelin she'd formed bursting into an eight-foot in diameter portal once more. However, the view seen through the portal... it was enough to send one running. A trashy, rustic, white-tiled hallway faced them, a leery vibe coming from it. "By all means, go right ahead." Clarice motioned towards the portal, a teasing look on her face. |
