The other day he'd been sitting in his room, just playing around on his phone. He accidentally dropped it, and when he picked it up his finger tapped the screen and went to his contacts list. And a name popped up that he hadn't seen in quite some time. Melody Guthrie.

Ever since he came to Xavier's, he'd always been good friends and really close to the Guthries. He and Jay had been good friends before his departure; Jeb had been like a little brother to him and they'd hung out all the time. Sam was a bit off doing his own thing, but they still were on pretty good terms.

He'd even gone home with them to the farm once, and it was one of the fondest memories he had of the past few years. So he wasn't even surprised that without thinking about it, his finger was pressing the call button and he was ringing her up.

They talked for a bit and decided that some catching up was in order, so they arranged to meet up and hang out for a bit. She told him of a state park a bit north from the school, and it sounded like a perfect place to him. He could have flown there, but sometimes he just didn't want to risk it. And getting rained on sucked.

So when the day came, he dressed warm and packed some essentials in the backseat, then headed out. The drive wasn't as long as some he'd taken, but it was a decent one. When he got there, he parked and let the top down on his ride.

Leaving all the stuff he'd brought for their hangout day on the front passengers seat, he hopped on the hood and leaned back before pulling out his phone. "Hey, I'm here. North Parking lot, red and black Camaro with the top down," he spoke aloud as he typed the words into his phone and hit send. Now all he had to do was wait.

It was good to get out of the city once in a while, and Melody hadn't really gotten away since she'd returned to New York. She was loving city life, but she liked wide open spaces and more than anything a chance to spread her wings. Figuratively speaking. The place wasn't too far from the school, but that distance plus the distance from the city... it had been a long drive. It wasn't nearly as far as the drive from Kentucky though, and she liked driving.

She'd been kinda surprised when he'd called her earlier, but he wasn't the first of the old crowd to sorta invite her back into their lives lately so she'd gotten over that quick enough. Luckily she had the day off so when they decided to just meet up, there was none of the bullshit trying to get off work entailed. So she grabbed her favorite leather jacket and sunglasses and hit the road.

Of course she could have flown. Technically. It would have been risky though, and to fly high enough not to get sighted would've been too damned cold. Not to mention it would have taken three times as long. So much for superpowers. She was almost there when her phone began the annoying song that announced her texts. Funny enough it used to be one of her favorite songs... until she had to hear it every time she got a message.

Yeah. It had to go.

She pulled into the parking lot and with his car it was easy to spot him. For an entirely different reason her truck would be just as hard to miss. Ah well. "Hey there," she called out the window as she parked, and hopped out as soon as the motor went quiet. "Beat me here. Almost like you had a head start." She grinned.

The text only took a few moments to send, and after that, well he had a bit of waiting to do. It wasn't that bad though, so he just kept laying on his car and watching the clouds go by.

Nature was really beautiful; a fact he'd forgotten with all the attempts on his life and those of his fellow mutants. Today would be fun and he could just hang out with Melody. No Purifiers, no Skrull, no assassination attempts.

Nothing but fun with friends. He turned his head slightly when he heard the unmistakable sound of a truck pulling up, and it was Mel like he thought. She parked next to him and he waved, flipping off the car and landing on his feet with a grin and a small thud.

"Hey there, miss thang." He waited while she got out the car and chuckled. "Yeah, funny how that works right?" Holding his arms out, he gave her a hug and scooped her into the air, spinning her around before setting her down.

"Oh man, I have missed you, Mel. How ya been?" He hadn't seen her in a long time, and he missed one of the fairer Guthries; most of whom weren't actually at the school for various reasons. "Been keepin' busy in Mutant Town?"
