Timeframe: September 20th, @ 2 pm Rahne had missed the classroom, she had to admit. She missed teaching her kids, missed being in the daily grind of it, missed the interactions she could count on to be memorable at least once a day. There were a good many things she had missed about teaching. Grading book reports was not one of them. It was important to have a summer reading program for the kids on the upper cusp of her teaching purview, to get kids literate, to have them engaging with literature on some level, and book reports were a surefire way to make sure at least most of them actually did that. Plus they liked the opportunity to draw out a favorite scene from the book, those who enjoyed drawing that is. But grading book reports? Oh, that could be a chore and a half, because amid the various good book reports were inevitably a few who clearly did not read the book and were either writing from what they could find on Wikipedia or... "Ugh, lookit this one," Rahne said from the small chair at the arts and crafts table as she looked over to Doug Ramsey, her chosen partner in this endeavor. If you wanted to make sure your book reports got thoroughly and correctly graded, you go to the mutant linguist. "He's not even tryin' t' hide the fact that he dinnae read his chosen book. 'Harry Potter an' the Chamber of Secrets is a very fun movie - misspelled movie there - Harry fights a giant snake an' I like giant snakes cause they are scary'," she sighed and shook her head, looking over to her baby son Greg, who sat on the floor with his plush bunny, shaking it vigorously up and down in his hands. "I dinnae suppose I could convince ye to lighten the book report load here, aye, Greggy?" Rahne asked in jest. "Mmmmmbah," the baby werewolf answered, throwing the bunny at her with remarkable accuracy. It struck her in the shoulder and flopped to the floor face-first. "Dinnae think so," she said with a shake of her head. |

In the quieter moments built out of routine and life Doug found a sentiment he could only describe as pure happiness. It was strange that stuff like this sitting in a classroom while Rahne worked and he more or less just hung around to keep her company were often the exception to the usual. Life at Xaviers, hell life as a mutant was seldom benign and maybe if he was more of an adrenaline junkie he would feel the opposite of it and look at stuff like this as boring and taxing, but as it was being with Rahne and the kids was probably some of the most fun he had had in ages. She read off from one of the book reports that had been turned in, the kid missing the assignment blatantly and Doug laughed easily as he pressed a sticker on a different book report that at least had the good sense to be about an actual book. God, stickers were fun he thought looking down at the smiling sun that just made you feel cheerful across his shirt were several stickers he's let the kids put on him in a game they had been playing earlier and he was finding a lot of fun in saying good job done with a bit of animated adhesive. He wondered if that was perhaps why so few bills got passed in Congress, a fervent lack of stickers. "I gee him points for bravado at least it's not easy to like things you are afraid of. I'm still torn about how I feel about Wolverine but as far as successful transfers of literature to film go the Harry Potter serious does a pretty good job go staying to the source material. You'd be amazed at some of the bastardizations out there and how people never even realize. Like the Wizard of Oz and those ruby slippers in the books they were silver and don't even get me started on The Wiz I'm not even sure what that as based on." From the floor Rahne's young son Greg responded to a remark of his mothers hitting her with a stuffed rabbit that was one of his favorite playtoys. Doug feared what would happen to the poor thing or its real life counterparts when Greg started teething, but for the moment it was hard not to just laugh at the tyke. "Child labor laws Rahne. Besides My Godson likes any reading to be done for him and not by him. I found that he really enjoyed Curious George the last time I was over at the cabin though I could have sword there was a moment there when he was looking at George with hunger in his eyes. I tried reading to him from Gwyneth Paltrows blog about the benefits of veganism but I think my good intentions just went over his little head." He happily slammed another sticker down on a different report. "How are things with Jack by the way. He over the baby blues yet?" |

Rahne smiled, shaking her head as Doug went into one of his babbles, as he was so prone to do. Honestly, she wouldn't have him any other way. It was something uniquely Doug, and something that was honestly fun more often than it wasn't. "Well, either way," she said, nudging the plush rabbit with her foot back towards Greg, who attacked it with gusto, grappling onto it and biting into it with a playful growl. "The assignment was t' read a book an' show in writing, that ye read it. So.... nope." She reached out for the sticker sheet, pulling a blue frowny face and placing it on the top of the report. I think he likes the voices best. Maybe if ye read Gwyneth Paltrow in yuir grumpy zookeeper voice, he'd like it a bit more," Rahne said with a soft chuckle, going over another book report, this one a bit more honest and apt with what it was supposed to be. She had read Divergent, and summarized it. There's your book report right there. She put a gold star sticker on the top, lightly pressing it in with her thumb to make sure it was evenly applied. "Heh," Rahne shook her head, glancing up at Doug from her current book report at Doug's question. "Honestly, I think he got over the baby blues quicker than I did, but then again he dinnae have the same hormone issues I did, so... ye know. He's doin' fine. He's valiant protector daddy, 'tis really quite adorable. An' very sexy." |

"Actually my Gwyneth Paltrow voice is really good. You just raise an octave and put on an air like you're too important to be bothered with anything and above it all. Sounds a lot like my Mom if I'm being perfectly honest" He countered when Rahne teased that Greg would have enjoyed his excursion into the world of veganism if Doug had made it more playful. "I'm afraid that one there will be a carnivore for life." He said shaking his head in mock disgust. "Honestly the friends I keep. Only Kitty has the good sense to know about the benefits of a meat free..." He stopped himself sensing he was starting to steer the conversation into Kitty Pyde territory and he didn't know if his heart was up for the challenge of tap dancing around that particular field full of land mines. Rahne had been considerate and compassionate about him ending his engagement to Layla a feat made easier by the fact that Doug had been able to use Layla prolonged time away as grounds for not having to divulge that the whole thing had been a peculiar and convoluted setup that he had stumbled into and was now free to be rid off. He was sure she sensed there was more to the topic but as he hadn't ventured she hadn't pushed and if he could keep it that way he would for now at least. "Point is it wouldn't kill you guys to try it is all I'm saying. Greens are good you may find you like it." He pushed the small pile of papers away from himself and leaned back in his chair. That was him the type of person who believed he could convince meat loving shifters who's genetic nature craved a carnivorous lifestyle into hummus eating tree huggers like himself. Maybe it was that same kind of sentimentality that kept him hoping for a relationship with Kitty Pryde outside of the great friendship they already had. When you were an omnilinguist words were your very life as such you believed there was no battle that couldn't be won with a well researched or impassioned discussion. "Nope" he declared putting his hands in mock fashion over his ears as Rahne mentioned how well Jack had adapted to his role as father and how sexy he made the title look. "I don't want to hear about anyone's sexy times. Somethings are better left to the imagination.. Not that I imagine you and Jack together that way! Cause I don't! I mean its a perfectly fine natural act between consenting married adults and therefore shouldn't be anything anyone should be ashamed about it's just none of my affair thats all and you're my friend and I wouldn't want to see you that way. I mean not that Ive never thought.. I mean .. Okay I'm gonna stop now." His face was as red as the heart shaped stickers on the sticker sheet in front of him. He gave Rahne a plaintive "Save me from myself look" and drooped his head down onto the desk without looking up he remarked. "I'm really a mess aren't I?" |

"Oh, I'm sure, but he likes yuir grumpy zookeeper. I can tell. He just giggles like a maniac every time. That's the way t' get him to appreciate Miss Paltrow," Rahne said with a smirk. "Though now that ye've said she sounds like yuir mum, I'm never going to unhear that, ye know. Every movie I see with her in it, it'll just be yuir mum up there on the screen." Rahne paused for a moment, glancing in Doug's direction. She knew that he and his mother weren't on the friendliest of terms to say the least, with her, as Rahne recalled, not being all too fond of the mutant "scene" that Doug now found himself very much a part of. It was sad, really. "And hey, we balance the meals out. We're not obligate carnivores like cats, ye know. We can handle a wee bit of plant matter in the diet. Well, muhself more 'n Jack, at least. Poor guy had a dish with too much of a... oh, what was it... ye know, I hardly even remember what it was, but poor guy was a bit sick the rest of the night." She glanced over to Greg, and shook her head as he continued to chew on the plush bunny, clinging onto it with all four limbs. "We're still figurin' out his dietary restrictions. Hopin' he's more like me in that regard, as poor Jack - he has to be so very cautious with what he eats. The slightest misbalance will just wreck him." She couldn't help but laugh as Doug got defensive to a degree at the word 'sexy'. Defensive and rambly, almost to a panicked fervor even. But that was Doug. He got uncomfortable, and the words just kept going at rapid pace. "Oh, stop. I was'nae gonna go into detail, ye great big silly," Rahne said with a shake of her head before looking down to Greg. "Ye see how silly yuir Uncle Doug's bein'? Very silly indeed." Greg did not, actually, see how silly Uncle Doug was being, and he didn't care. Bunny took up all of his attention at the moment. "I get it, though - 'tis a territory ye dinnae want t' stray in. I get it. Ye're not a mess, ye're Doug. Delightfully repressed. And I know - me of all people sayin' that when I used to be so repressed I was practically Victorian. Victorian with a naturally occurin' buzzcut. Goodness, I was a weird kid." |

As constant as the sunrise Rahne was there with her support offering up her own beliefs as to why he was the way he was and mentioning that he wasn't the only one who had went through 'awkward' phases. She was right too. Looking at the confident assure mother with her child in front of him it was had to wed this person with the shy introverted person she had been back then. It was inspiring really. Rahen had not let the restrictions of a conservative faith or the mistreatment she had suffered at the hands of others to maintain a hold on who she would become. Instead with the help of friends and more compassionate mentors she had grown and become more, a remarkable change that somehow had alluded him. For all intenst anad purposes Doug was still Doug. He still had the same quirks, the same over indulgence in pop culture infused one liners, the same love of all things science and science fiction and more importantly the same love for Kitty Pryde. He might have grown more advent ours or willing in the things that he would do, but still he felt insignificant when compared to the greatness of others and though his friends did their best to often assure him of his relevance and importance as both a member of Xaviers and an X-men Doug still had his doubts. "Hey I liked that haircut. Not many people can wear look like that and it wasn't ike you went full on Sinead or GI jane ya know you were very much doing your own thing and if that equates to word then Im glad to be weird with you. Besides who wants normal anyway. It a word like fine and okay its been thrown around enough that it's lost all meaning. You" He said gesturing around the room with his hand. "This. Us. This is as normal as I would want it and while I'll be the first to admit that not everything is how I dreamed it would and definitely not the plan my parents set out for me. I've been through enough to know sometimes just surviving and thriving can be enough. I mean no ones happy all the time right unless they're on Lexipro. We take the good with that bad and that includes hairstyles. I mean just look at this last year after everything that happened with all of us. Amara being kidnapped and then escaping and her and Roberto finally seeing that they could and should be more then friends. Sam dealing with all his family drama and yet sill taking out the time to be there for anyone of us that needed him and Dani doing her very Dani thing, and oh my God you. You're a mommy now! I mean just five years ago could any of us have imagined any of this. We were just a bunch of different kids grown together by genetic circumstance and now we're more family then our families and I wouldn't have it any other way Rahne. Would you?" |

"Oh, but ye full well know it was no haircut," Rahne said with a laugh as she thumbed over another book report. Lemony Snicket. Yeah, that was an odd one, and another movie perhaps, but no, looked like this was an actual reading, thank goodness. Gold star sticker, move on to the next one. "Ye remember how upset that made me? But then mum offered t' get me a wig an' I just could nae go for it," Rahne shrugged her shoulders, glancing over to her little boy, still fully engrossed in showing that rabbit who the boss was. "But alas, hair growth came with maturity anyway. Strange side effect I suppose." Of course, Doug was correct in his amazement - in a relatively short amount of time, the little group of close friends as they had been over the years had grown and changed in so many ways, while also remaining in other ways the same as they ever were. They had each developed and adapted, making attachments to people outside the circle while keeping in that circle. Each member of the little group were now in some ways a Venn Diagram of connections. "Nah, I'd nae change a thing," Rahne said with a smirk. "I know from experience that changin' one wee tiny little thing, no matter how small, changes everything." She found herself wondering how that other her was doing these days - the one from that parallel world, where life's cruelty and unforgiving nature had led her to grow into a half-formed feral child who in many ways was less than a fully formed human being in mind and spirit. It had been a sobering reminder meeting her, of just how bad her life could have been, and she liked to think that seeing that allowed her to make her life here and now what it was. "I'd say we've - wait, wait - hold up a tick - Amara an' Roberto? Since when?!" |

As soon as the words were out of his mouth Doug knew he had slipped up. Subconsciously he felt his arms reach up to the air as though they could be caught and gobbled back down, like that old skit from 'The Electric Company" were words physically materialized into letters only the was no children's entertainment program and now that the proverbial cat was out of the bag Doug Ramsey knew he was in the stew. "I, uhh, Amara and Roberto what? Hey is little Tiffany eating paste we better stop her." He tried his best to feign a distraction but as always Rahne wasn't having it. Even without her enhanced wolf hearing she'd have plainly understood what he had said and the implications of it and Dougfeeling guilty realized his the ownership of his friends secret was about to grow by one more person. "Me and my big mouth. I swear Im like that fish in the proverb one of these days I'm gonna get myself hooked because I can't keep it closed." He sighed loudly and turned to face Rahne with pleading in his eyes. "I'm going to tell you but you've got to promise not to say anything. Not even to Jack okay and yes I know you and he have that whole open and honest vow thing going on but Im pulling the friendship card here and we've been friends longer than you've been married so I trump, okay?" When he had her agreement he began. "I'm not really sure when it officially began, like began began. Brett's has had a thing for Amara for a while now I don't think thats really been a secret. I mean all you had to do was be around him when he looked at her and you could see it all over his face, or well at least I could. It reminded me a lot of that old Shirt Tales cartoon. Do you remember Shirt Tales? It washout a group of little animals who lived in a park and whenever they felt or had something important to say it would flashs across their shirts. It was a really good cartoon, but all those old eighties Hannah Barbera cartoons were great. Like The Snorkels. Do you remember the Snorkels? I loved them I even had Snorkel underuse they were so great Oh sorry I'm getting off subject aren't I" He let her stern gaze and interest guide him back from the chaotic flow of thoughts in his head to the conversation at hand. "Anyway I think on some level Amara always knew but Berto has always been so Berto, you know. I mean he was a player before that was even a thing. I've never seen him commit to a hairstyle let a lone a relationship and then there was that whole thing with Songbird and Empath spilling about how Berto had feelings for her and then when Amara heard that I guess it got her to realize maybe she cared about him too in a way deeper than she had realized. She's always been so sensitive you know. Hell she even dated me so clearly its not about a type with her. Add into that everything that happened after the HFC manipulated her thoughts and well I guess they decided to give it a shot." Doug reached out a grabbed Rahne's hand. "But you know how new relationships are Rahne especially amongst friends they spoke easier then a newborn colt. So you can't say anything. I don't wanna risk the group if this falls a part for them and I'm really happy for the both of them I am. I think I always saw them getting together once they got out of their own ways even when me and Amara were together I think a part of me knew she'd be better suited with someone like him. So I have you're promise right? Not a peep and in return I'm gonna tell you something else another secret that has to stay between us okay?" He released her hand and noticed that his were now suspiciously damp so he wiped them on his jeans and said. "Kitty and I are going on a date.... sort of." |

Rahne sat quiet, looking at the hand that Doug grasped as Doug went into what detail he knew. Perhaps it was the canid part of her personality, that part of her that was wolf no matter what her shape showed, but the whole concept didn't make much sense to her. She had tried, when she was much younger and much more foolish, to keep her feelings secret. To keep well... anything secret. She was never any good at it. And now here Doug was asking for secrecy. "Honestly, you lot are all quite silly," Rahne said with a shake of her head before looking down to Greg. "Dinnae you agree with me, Greg? So very silly." Greg, for all it mattered, wasn't interested in the conversation, and only looked up to his mom with a smile as she said his name, pausing in mid-bunny-slam before resuming swatting his plush bunny against the floor. "I'll keep the secret, goodness," Rahne said with a sigh. "Why anybody wants t' keep that secret is beyond me. I mean, it's nae like any of us had no inkling o' the attraction the two of 'em have held for each other for God knows how long. But like I said, silly." But then Doug had another secret of his own to level. The business with Layla had been... odd. Confusing. A false engagement under exaggerated pretenses for a purpose that... was very unclear. To this day, Rahne still didn't know just what Layla had accomplished by pretending to have a relationship with Doug. She supposed she'd never know. But she couldn't promise that she wouldn't put a boot to that blonde's backside if given the chance. "Well, it's about damn time!" Rahne said with a laugh. "Why the two of you ever took so long to even give it a shot is an absolutely mystery. Good on ye! Very good on ye. What's the plan? It had best be somethin' a wee bit better 'n dinner and a movie, I'd say." |

For one small second Doug stared at Rahne dumbfounded. She had taken his news about Kitty with such stride, with something almost akin to an inevitability that it floored him. He had been holding that one pretty close to the chest afraid of what his friends would say, afraid of what they would think, especially since it was so soon on the heels of the whole Layla fiasco that Rahne's nonchalance was as jarring as if she had yelled obscenities at him which would have been as out of character for her as Doug could imagine. When the moment had past he wanted desperately to hug his dear friend and made a start too but found himself hindered by the large desk that separated them and he started to laugh and then he couldn't stop laughing. He must have looked the spectacle but the whole thing had been so much and he had been holding on to it all for so long that to now have it all out there and it met with relief and encouragement was like a steroid to the soul. Suddenly Doug wanted to tell her everything, needed to tell her everything just to get it off his chest. It was only realizing that they were still in a crowded classroom with a dozen or so (give or take those mutant kids who had more then two) eyes staring at him and little Greg in earshot that stopped him. "I thought you'd tell me I was crazy or worse setting myself up for disappointment" He finally admitted when his laughter had ebbed and a more serious attitude washed in. "I think that's why I haven't told anyone. Ive wanted this for so long Rahne. I've had feelings for Kitty forever I guess that no secret." He sighed and a hand through his hair absentmindedly getting a sticker that had been stuck on the side of his thumb tangled up in there but he didn't notice. Doug knew his feelings for kitty Pryde at this point was probably one of he worst kept secrets at Xaviers. Over the years he had made himself look the proverbial fool following her aimlessly around, carrying her books for her, always trying to be where she was add into that his insane jealousy over Bobby Drake and well it didn't take much for people to figure it out that Doug had had it bad for Kitty Pryde. sadly it had seemed the only two who weren't aware of these feelings or willing to admit them were Doug and Kitty herself, who while always being terrific friend had never given Doug any clear indication that she wanted to be anything more then friends, and then f course there was her own secret feelings for Bobby, and well all those ingredients made for one messy stew or one delicious telenovela defending on how your Spanish was. Now Bobby was gone, out of the picture, and Kitty had opened the door up for Doug in a way she never had before. Which was why he was so glad he was opening up to Rahne he needed advice bad. "And now I don't know what to do. I've got one chance thats it and if I do it right I win the heart of the girl Ive loved for as long as I can remember but i I mess it up..." his voice began to crack a little as so many emotions beat inside hm like waves against the shore rocks. "I could lose my best friend Rahne. Is it even worth the risk? What kitty and I have now its amazing, it's always been amazing but what happens if we go on this date and she realizes that all I'll ever be to her is silly Doug Ramsey who rambles on about video games he loves and trips over his own two feet. Guys like me we don't get the girl, Rahne. So I need someone to tell it to me straight please and don't coddle me okay. You've always been so protective of me and i love you for it but I need the truth now, okay? Be my friend and tell me honestly Do you think I have a chance?" |

Doug's laughter threw Rahne off a bit, and she looked at him through an angled head and slightly pursed lips. Laughter was not quite what she expected from him here, as she certainly hadn't said anything that she thought was all that funny, and glancing down at Greg, she noticed he wasn't doing anything funny, so what the deal was she wasn't quite sure. But Greg certainly had noticed Doug's amusement, and in curiosity, padded his way over to him, clumsily walking on all fours much like a young puppy who was still figuring out that kind of movement. He looked at Doug for a moment before hopping up as well as he could, propping himself up on Doug's leg with an inquisitive grunt. "Why on Earth would I do that? Honestly, Doug. There's not a soul in this mansion who hadn't noticed how you an' Kitty have been dancin' around this f'r years now. An' what with that schemin', manipulatin', connivin' little-" She stopped herself short, noticing the sneer that had grown on her face and the anger that had boiled up within her, holding up her right hand a bit above the table to signify that she was stopping. "What with Miss Miller out o' the equation, we were all rather hopin' the two of ye would give it a shot at least," Rahne said with a smile, dipping her head a bit in a nod. "An' ye great big silly, ye dinnae have one chance. 'One chance' - that's the stuff ye save f'r a date with someone ye dinnae know yet. This is Kitty. Nobody knows better 'n you what she likes, what she's interested in. Ye really worry if ye've got a chance? Doug, the best relationships start from close friendships an' grow from there. So toss out the self-doubt, toss out the second-guessing an' just live in that moment when ye get it." She shook her head. "Honestly, Doug - when are ye gonna realize that ye're worth so much more than ye believe?" |

"But is there such a thing as too close?" He asked rahne knowing full well what he was doing and finding himself unwilling or perhaps even unable to stop. Grabbing the he sides of the chair he was sitting on he half scooted half hopped it closer to her own. Gone now was all thoughts and attention given to the assembly of tots and toddlers. The ability to talk about self and selfs romantic problems taking over any and every other responsibility. "And don't blame Layla all that mess was as much my own doing as hers. It wasn't like she had put a gun too my head or anything at least not literally though there were a few metaphorical guns and bombs in the equation but honestly thats not her nor there right now" At Rahne's feet Greg continued to play with his toy reacting like most babies did in any affair that didn't involve them, utter ambivalence and indifference. He was in his own self contained little world and Doug almost envied him that. What would that be like again to feel so safe and so certain to be able to look up at someone the way Greg did at Rahne with such certainty and safety. That was the problem with growing up Doug thought you stopped trusting in absolute security and commitment. "Yeah I know Kitty well inside and out. I know her likes and her dislikes better than my own that's the problem. I see her in ever light, good and bad, Like do you know she has six smiles? One when something really makes her laugh. One when she's making plans. One when she is laughing out of politeness. One when she is uncomfortable. One when she is making fun of herself. And one when... she's talking about her friends." His lips pursed a little tightly as he continued on knowing that this was that part that was gonna hurt not just to say but to hear because even though he had often thought it there was something about saying it, about confiding it that made it real. "I can read anybody Rahne any situation. Ive been doing it longer then I even realized and it only got stronger after the battle with Onslaught. I see how she looks at Bobby and how she looks at me and it's not the same and I don't know if that's gonna change. I know I got low self confidence and i should believe in myself more but it's hard because I don't see what you see because I don't know if its even there. Who am I really, Rahne? What do I have to offer? Bobby is a legendary X-man, cool powers, cool attitude. He's literally saved the world how do I compete with that. Hey look it's Doug Ramsey wow i heard he can speak French really good and he's read a lot of books quick sign me up quick I wanna marry that guy." He deadpanned sarcastically. "I'm not good enough for her." And there it was. The truth out there at last. "And I'm scared of what's going to happen when she figures that out. Loving somebody and being IN love with them are two different things. Can you imagine anyone, let alone, Kitty ever being in love with me?" |

"Well, I suppose if ye count stalker behavior as closeness," Rahne chuckled, shaking her head, setting aside the book reports for now. Good old neurotic, self-doubting Doug Ramsey. If there was one thing you could count on him to be constant at, it was doubting himself to the point of paralysis. And Rahne had always been one of the people who could pull him back from that. He had done much the same for her in her younger days, those days on Muir when he was a young student transfer from Xavier's, and she was just Moira's shy little adopted daughter who was still recovering from a childhood with an abusive father. Greg grunted again, a bit more insistent, and pushed at Doug's leg once more, not liking not getting what he wanted from him. "I think ye're gonna have to pick him up," Rahne said with a shrug of her shoulders. "Look, maybe nothin'll come of it. Maybe something will. I cannae promise either. But I can be sure with a hundred percent certainty that nothin'll come of it if'n ye never give it a shot, right?" Rahne shook her head as Doug persisted. He wasn't good enough, he wasn't worthy. He had lame powers. It was the same old song and dance, really. "You - are Doug Ramsey. Ye're one o' the smartest people I know, ye're sweet an' kind an' rather selfless. Ye've got so much t' give an' ye just refuse t' see it. Which, t' me, is a good bit maddening. Ye're a looker too, ye know. An' if'n ye're so keen on comparin' yuirself t' Bobby Drake, ye've got him beat on that level as well. Plus ye're good with kids, which is a big big plus, trust me." "Bahmmmmm," Greg chimed in, headbutting Doug's leg clumsily. "Oh, yes, an' bahm. We cannae f'rget bahm. Thank ye, Greggy," Rahne laughed a bit. |

"Up you go, buddy" Doug said reaching down and picking greg up he placed the feral tyke in his lap as Rahne concluded her sentiment about Doug's own merits and why comparing and contrasting himself to Bobby would do no good. It was as speech as eloquent and as old as their friendship itself and one they had often seemed to trade throughout the years though the scales had increasingly tipped more so in favor of her trying to lift his confidence up as she had grown in her and he had sort of leveled out Hearing of his importance and believing in it were two different things but he loved her for it all the same as he and baby Greg rubbed noses and the kid playfully grabbed at his face while Doug talked to him in a language all their own. That was another misconception the linguist knew that all baby talk was just gibberish, it really wasn't if you knew what you were saying and understood what you were hearing. "Well Gregg and I understand each other, really well. Don't we, buddy" Doug said smiling and then lifting the small one up he handed him back to his mother. "He also want's me to tell you that he want's his good fooler back the one you apparently hid in the cabinet that's he can't climb into. Also thank you, and that's from me not Greg though I guess he'l thank you too once you change him which he's gonna need right about now." Then just as if he responding to a cue Greg's face reddened as he strained and made dirty in his pampers. "Called it." Doug teased. "But seriously you're right. I have to realize I can only be me doesn't do much good being anyone else need seems to stick. Besides maybe luck will be on my side this time it helped me too find you and that was probably one of the best things to ever happen to me. You do a great job of keeping me from kicking my own tail too hard which is one of the reasons amongst the litany of reasons that I love you. Now you gotta tell me bow tie or no bow tie cause Dr Who says bowties are cool but then I don't look nearly as good as Matt smith in a bow tie or a Fez." |

"Oh, Greg," Rahne sighed, smelling it the moment the boy's facial expression became focused and hard. She got up from her seat, grabbing the diaper bag that pretty much went everywhere with her these days, and then took the baby from Doug. "Ye know, ye wee rascal, I look forward t' the day we can finally get ye trained f'r the loo," Rahne chuckled as she kneeled down on the floor and laid Greg on his back, undoing his jumper and getting to the business of changing the disposable. She had it down to a relative science at this point, thankfully. Open it on up, baby wipe for cleaning, a bit of powder to prevent chafing, fold and seal the old one, place in a handy plastic baggie of which she had plenty and replace the diaper with a fresh new one. It was a quick enough process that Greg didn't even have any time to fight her on it, to squirm his way out and scamper around like he clearly wanted to. "Well, Doug, somebody's gotta keep you in line, ye know. Without me, who knows where ye'd b, right?" she said with a smirk as she snapped Greg's jumper back up and patted him lightly on the belly, to which he giggled a bit, his little legs kicking. "I figure I'll just keep draggin' ye out of severe self-deprecation f'r as long as it takes. It's gotta stick some day, aye?" Rahne said with a smirk as she sat back and let Greg roll back over, to get about and play as he wanted to. "Bow ties are f'r tuxedos," Rahne said with a nod of her head. "Tuxedos an' Bill Nye th' Science Guy. I have literally never seen a bow tie work otherwise." |
